Manjima Mohan to play the female lead in Nivin Pauly’s Mikhael

Nivin Pauly’s new film, Mikhael, with director Haneef Adeni went on floors last day in Ernakulam with a customary pooja and switch on ceremony. Anto Joseph is producing the movie under his banner Anto Joseph Film Company. The movie touted to be a family thriller also has Unni Mukundan in a prominent role. Latest addition to the cast is Manjima Mohan.

After making her debut as a lead actress with Nivin Pauly’s Oru Vadakkan Selfie, Manjima forayed to other South industries and soon became busy there. Manjima is making her comeback to her home turf with two back to back projects. Apart from Mikhael, the actress also has ‘Zam Zam’, which is the official remake of the widely-acclaimed Hindi film, Queen.

Mikhael has high expectations among the audience. Haneef Adeni has delivered huge hits with his first two outings – The Great Father and Abrahaminte Santhathikal (writer), and hence will be trying to continue the successful run. Rated as one of the most stylish filmmakers in Malayalam cinema at present, Haneef has got his hero Nivin to sport a trendy new look for Mikhael. JD Chakravarthy, Siddique, Renji Panciker, Ashokan, Shanthi Krishna, Kalabhavan Shajon and KPAC Lalitha are also part of the cast.

Jayaram, who is fresh from the success of ‘Panchavarnathatha’ will be next seen in ‘Lonappante Mammodisa’, a fun entertainer directed by Leo Thaddeus. Last day, the movie was officially announced with a title poster, which was unveiled through Kalidas Jayaram’s official Facebook page. The movie is being produced by Shimnoy Mathew of Pen and Paper Creations. Shoot will kick-start on September 5 in Angamaly.

Leo Thaddeus is noted for has made films like Pachamarathanalil and Oru Cinemakkaaran. For his upcoming movie with Jayaram, the director has signed Kaniha, ‘Angamaly Diaries’ fame Anna Reshma Rajan and Shanthi Krishna as the female leads. Innocent, Eva Pavithran, Nisha Sarang, Alencier Ley Lopez, Hareesh Kanaran, Dileesh Pothan and Joju George have also been cast in various supporting roles.

In the technical crew, Sudheer Surendran will be cranking the camera and Alpons Jospeh will be composing the music. Veteran Rajan Abraham will be handling the edits. The movie will be distributed by director Siddique’s distribution company S Talkies.

Virus: Aashiq Abu’s next is a multi-starrer based on real life events

Last day, Aashiq Abu made a huge announcement about his next project. The movie titled as ‘Virus’ has an ensemble cast comprising of Revathy, Tovino Thomas, Parvathy, Asif Ali, Rima Kallingal, Kalidas Jayaram, Soubin Shahir, Dileesh Pothan, Chemban Vinod Jose and Remya Nambeeshan. Virus is based on real life events, presumably about the Nipah outrbeak that claimed 18 lives in Kerala this year.

Virus is scripted jointly by Muhsin Parari, Suhas and Sharfu. Muhsin Parari is the writer-director of KL 10 Pathu and co-writer of Sudani From Nigeria. Suhas and Sharfu are making their debut as scriptwriters with the upcoming Fahadh Faasil starrer, Varathan. Just like the cast, the technical crew of Virus also includes some well-known names like National award winning cinematographer Rajeev Ravi, composer Sushin Shyam and editor Saiju Sreedharan.

Virus was announced with a title poster designed by Old Monks. They have used the original photo taken by Mathrubhumi photographer Sajan V Nambiar. This photo caught instant attention for it captured the true essence of the crisis. Earlier, director Jayaraj had also announced a similar movie based on Nipah outbreak and the story of nurse Lini Puthussery, who lost her life while treating an infected patient. The movie titled as ‘Roudram’ will be the director’s next in the Navarasa series.

It will be interesting to see how these two filmmakers come up with their own versions of a real-life incident that is still fresh in the minds of Keralites.

The highly-anticipated Odiyan is currently in the post-production phase. The makers are working tirelessly to ensure the best possible output. Recently, director VA Shrikumar Menon took to his official Twitter handle to inform that he along with his team have been working non-stop for nearly 16 hours with the dubbing. His tweet reads,

Marathon dubbing for odiyan . Almost 16 hours non stop … uff.. very satisfying hence not feeling tired even at this hour .. odiyan power !! #odiyan rising. God bless

Earlier, Shrikumar Menon had cleared airs about the trailer release. There was a buzz that Odiyan’s trailer will be screened in theatres playing Ranam, but the director dismissed it and informed that they are still working on the trailer, and it will be released next month. His tweeted,

Dear friends , Odiyan trailer will be released only in the month of October. This tweet is to end speculations regarding the trailer release in sept. Keep praying for the team Odiyan. Post prdn work in full swing.

Odiyan, scripted by Harikrishnan, is based on the life of odiyans. Mohanlal plays the lead role in the movie which also stars Prakash Raj, Manju Warrier, Manoj Joshi, Naren and Sana Althaf in prominent roles.
Its technical crew includes cinematographer Shaji Kumar, editor Johnkutty, action choreographer Peter Hein, art director Prashanth Madhav and composers M Jayachandran and Sam CS (background score).

Earlier, the makers had announced October 11 as the release date but it looks highly unlikely as many movies scheduled for Onam had to be postponed due to the floods. This change in dates has affected the release of already scheduled films like Odiyan. It is now being reported that Odiyan will be postponed for Christmas. We still have to wait for an official word.

Dulquer Salmaan to make his Tamil playback singing debut with Kannum Kannum Kollai Adithaal

As we already know, Dulquer Salmaan will be next seen in Tamil in a romantic entertainer titled, Kannum Kannum Kollai Adithaal (KKKA). The movie directed by debutant Desingh Periyasamy has Telugu actress Ritu Varma of ‘Pelli Choopulu’ playing the female lead. KKKA is currently in the final stages of production and is expected to hit screens this year itself.

Dulquer Salmaan, who has lent his voice for some hit tracks in Malayalam, is all set to make his playback singing debut in Tamil with this movie. The actor himself revealed this in a recent media interaction. Since the movie is a rom-com entertainer, the song is most likely to be a fun track. Popular music band Masala Cafe have been signed to compose for the movie.

KKKA has Dulquer playing the role of Sidharth aka Sid, a happy go lucky IT professional in this upcoming movie. The actor known for his penchant for trying different styles, will be seen sporting multiple looks in this movie. This is his fourth Tamil movie after Vaayai Moodi Pesavum, Solo (both bilinguals) and OK Kanmani.

Unlike his earlier Tamil films, KKKA will have some stylish heroic elements as his character will be a larger than life one. The actor himself has said that KKKA will be more colourful and louder than the films that he has been doing lately.

Shoot for Mohanlal’s much-hyped movie Lucifer is currently underway in Trivandrum. The movie which marks the directorial debut of actor Prithviraj is scripted by Murali Gopy. Besides Mohanlal, Lucifer also has a host of other stars like Indrajith Sukumaran, Vivek Oberoi, Tovino Thomas and Manju Warrier. Teenager Saniya Iyappan, popular for her role in this year’s hit film ‘Queen’, is also playing a prominent role in the movie.

Saniya took to social media to wish her co-star Vivek Oberoi, who is celebrating his birthday today. Sharing a photo taken with him from the movie’s sets, the pretty actress has written,

More details regarding the other cast and crew members are expected to be announced shortly. The makers had initially planned to start shooting last month itself but the unexpected floods forced a change in schedules.

Asif Ali meanwhile has wrapped up the shoot of Vijay Superum Pournamiyum, a feel-good entertainer which marks his third outing with director Jis Joy. Asif also has Mandaram gearing up for release. The movie directed by debutant Vijesh Vijay is a coming-of-age film in which Asif appears in multiple looks.

We were the among the first to report about Salim Ahamed’s new film, ‘And The Oscar Goes To’. Tovino Thomas is playing the lead in role in the movie, the first look poster of which was unveiled last day in social medias. As it is presumable from the title, the movie is about the world of cinema.

Salim Ahamed, known for his award winning films like Adaminte Makan Abu and Pathemari, has scripted the movie after being inspired by the real lives of aspiring filmmakers. Tovino Thomas plays the role of a struggling filmmaker in this movie. Anu Sithara and a foreign actress will be seen as the female leads.

In the technical side, Madhu Ambat is cranking the camera and Bijibal will be handling the music department. Resul Pookutty has been signed for sound design and mixing. Shoot for the movie has already commenced. Besides shooting in Kerala, the makers have planned brief schedules US and Canada.

It’s a wrap for Vijay-Murugadoss duo’s Sarkar!

As we already know, the blockbuster combo of Vijay and AR Murugadoss are coming together for the third time for a movie titled Sarkar. This eagerly awaited movie is getting ready for a grand release this Diwali. After an eight-month-long shoot, the movie was wrapped up last day in Chennai. Actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, who is playing a prominent role in the movie, took to social media to share photos taken with the crew on the last day of shoot. Vijay was not present for the last day’s shoot as he had finished his portions much earlier.

Sarkar is a political thriller featuring Vijay as a multi millionaire. Keerthy Suresh is paired with him while details about Varalaxmi’s character has been kept under the wraps. Pala Karuppaiah, Radha Ravi, Livingston, Yogi Babu, Prem and many others are also part of the movie’s supporting cast.

Sarkar team is set to begin the promotions with the audio launch next month. A grand audio launch function has been planned to be held on October 2. After the blockbuster success of Mersal, AR Rahman is once again composing for a Vijay film and expectations are obviously on the higher side.

Sun Pictures is making their comeback to production by funding this big ticket film.

Malayalam cinema’s megastar, Mammootty is celebrating his birthday on September 7. Fans organizations are planning large scale celebrations across the state for their matinee idol. Along with that, industry insiders are also hoping to make the birthday special for Mammootty. Buzz is that a new project will be announced on the day, as a birthday treat for the fans. Speculations are already rife about who will be directing this new project. Lately, Mammootty has been in talks for multiple projects, so that makes it even more exciting.

Apart from that, an official teaser and first look poster of two of his upcoming movies are expected to be released on the same day. Mammootty is currently shooting for Madura Raja, the spin-off of his character from the blockbuster film ‘Pokkiriraja’. Vysakh, who directed the first part, is helming this upcoming movie as well.
