Madura Raja beats Pulimurugan to fetch record satellite rights!

Shoot for Mammootty’s Madura Raja commenced earlier this month in Kochi. The megastar is expected to join the team by 18th. The movie, which is a spin-off of Mammootty’s character from his blockbuster film, Pokkiri Raja, is being directed by Vysakh. Udhayakrishna, who last teamed up with Vysakh for the mega blockbuster Pulimurugan, is scripting Madura Raja as well.

Madura Raja is touted to be the most expensive film in Mammootty’s career. Such is the hype for the movie that its satellite rights have been acquired by Zee Keralam for a record amount. Though the exact price has not been disclosed, it is said to be higher than that of Mohanlal starrer Pulimurugan.

Madura Raja has a massive star cast led by Mammootty and the three heroines – Anusree, Shamna Kasim and Mahima Nambiar. Popular Tamil actor Jai is also playing a prominent role in the movie. Telugu actor Jagapathi Babu, well known for his negative roles in Pulimurugan and Aadhi, will be seen as antagonist in this movie as well. Its elaborate supporting cast includes Nedumudi Venu, RK Suresh, Vijayaraghavan, Salim Kumar, Aju Varghese, Dharmajan Blogatty, Biju Kuttan, Siddique, MR Gopakumar, Kailas, Bala, Manikuttan, Noby and Santhosh Keezhattoor among others.

In the technical side, the same team from Pulimurugan have been retained. Cinematographer Shaji Kumar, composer Gopi Sundar and editor John Kutty form the crew. Fight sequences will be choreographed by Peter Hein. Vysakh is planning Madura Raja as a more racy and technically advanced movie than Pokkiri Raja. The makers have planned to shoot the movie for around 120 says in a single schedule. It is scheduled as a summer release next year. This big budget movie is being produced by Nelson Ipe.

Vishnu Unnikrishnan joins Dileep in Professor Dinkan

After a short break, Dileep has resumed shooting for his upcoming 3D film Professor Dinkan. The movie directed by veteran cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Ramachandra Babu is an ambitious film made on a lavish budget. The movie which has Dileep playing the lead role of a magician.

Namitha Pramod plays the female lead in the movie which also stars Suraj Venjaramoodu, Aju Varghese, Srinda Arhaan, Rafi, Kochu Preman and Kailas. Latest to join the cast is Vishnu Unnikrishnan. The makers had earlier tweaked the script to reworked the script to suit the sensibilities of family audience. Reportedly, Vishnu’s role was added after the plot was tweaked.

Professor Dinkan, scripted by Rafi, revolves around an ambitious magician whose aim is to astonish the world with a risky magic trick. But one such attempts fails miserably and ends up affecting a lot of people. How he tries to patch up with the people and undo the damage through minor magic tricks forms the plot.

Professor Dinkan is a highly ambitious attempt in making a 3D film. If reports are to believed, the 3D team of 2.0 is working in this movie as well. 2.0 is said to be the first Indian movie to be shot and released in 3D format. Since the same technical team is working in Professor Dinkan, Malayali audience can expect a visual treat. The movie’s director Ramachandra Babu is a veteran who has cranked camera for over 100 films in multiple languages. With such a vast experience behind, he will be trying to deliver the best possible output for his directorial debut.

Professor Dinkan is being produced by Sanal Thottam under the banner of New TV.

Sivakarthikeyan’s Seemaraja is all set to hit screens next month. The movie is directed by Ponram, marking his third time collaboration with the actor after the blockbusters, Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam and Rajini Murugan. Just like their earlier films, Seemaraja is also rural based mass masala entertainer. RD Raja’s 24 AM Studios is funding the movie. Earlier, this month, a grand audio launch event was held in Madurai. The programme will be telecast on August 15 in Sun TV.

Sivakarthikeyan, Samantha, Soori, Lal and all the other major actors from the movie attended the event. Seemaraja’s music is composed by D Imman. The composer is looking for a hattrick hit as his previous collaborations with Sivakarthikeyan and Ponram for Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam and Rajini Murugan were hugely successful.

Seemaraja has Samantha paired with Sivakarthikeyan for the first time. Unlike other regular Tamil commercial flicks, Samantha, as the female lead, has a solid role; she even underwent training in Tamil Nadu’s traditional martial arts form Silambam for the movie. ‘Remo’ actress Keerthy Suresh is also there in a cameo role in the move. Simran, one of the leading heroines of her time, will be seen in a negative role .

Seemaraj’s supporting cast includes Malayali actor Lal, Soori, Napoleon, KS Ravikumar, Motta Rajendran, Sathish, Yogi Babu and Manobala among others. D Imman is handling the music department in Seemaraja. Balasubramaniem cranks the camera and National award winner Vivek Harshan is editing the movie.

Puthiyoru Pathayil: Here’s a new song from Varathan

Fahadh Faasil’s Varathan, directed by Amal Neerad, is gearing up for release. The movie is scheduled to hit screens later this month as an Onam release. First song video from the movie was released last day in social medias. The song titled ‘Puthiyoru Pathayil’ is a romantic track featuring the lead pair, Fahadh Faasil and Aishwarya Lekshmi. Like all other Amal Neerad songs, this latest one also boasts of exquisite visuals and the colour tone instantly reminds one of Amal-Fahadh duo’s last film Iyobinte Pusthakam.

Puthiyoru Pathayil is composed by Sushin Shyam and rendered by Fahadh’s wife actress Nazriya. Vinayak Sasikumar has penned the lyrics. Nazriya is also venturing into production by funding this movie jointly with the director’s home banner Amal Neerad Productions.

Nothing much is known about Varathan, including its genre, as the makers had kept utmost secrecy throughout the shoot time.The movie went on floors in March and the team went about silently with the shooting before wrapping it up in June. It was shot extensively in Vagamon, Munnar and nearby areas, apart from a brief schedule in Dubai.

Varathan also stars Sharafudheen, ‘Parava’ fame Arjun Ashokan, Vijilesh, Dileesh Pothan and ‘Guppy’ fame Master Chethan Lal in the supporting cast. DOP Littil Swayamp, composer Sushin Shyam and editor Vivek Harshan form the technical crew. Release date has not yet been officially announced.

Oru Kuttanadan Blog trailer to be released tomorrow

Mammootty’s Oru Kuttanadan Blog is getting ready for release. The movie which marks the directorial debut of scenarist Sethu is touted to be a rural based fun entertainer. After the promising teaser and song, the movie’s official trailer will be released tomorrow evening in social medias. From the promos, the movie promises to be a colorful entertainer that families seek during this festival season.

Oru Kuttanadan Blog scripted by Sethu is a rural flick, set in a village named Krishnapuram. Mammootty plays the role of Hari, a big-brother like figure who is fondly called as Hari ettan in the locality. New-gen actors like Jacob Gregory, Shaheen Siddique, Vivek Gopan, Sanju Sivaram and Jude Anthany Joseph play his close acquaintances.

The story is narrated interestingly through various episodes of a blog. Young star Sunny Wayne is reportedly playing the role of a blogger in the movie. Anu Sithara, Raai Laxmi and Shamna Kasim play the three female leads. Nedumudi Venu, Siddique, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Vineeth Kumar, Lalu Alex, Thesni Khan, Nandan Unni and Sohan Seenulal are also part of the supporting cast.

Oru Kuttanadan Blog is being produced by Murali Dharan and Santha Murali under the banner of Anantha Vision. Reports suggest August 24 as the release date but an official confirmation is still awaited.

As we had reported earlier, Nivin Pauly is teaming up with Haneef Adeni for a big budget thriller film. The movie titled as Mikhael is funded by Anto Joseph Film Company. As per latest reports, the movie is set to go on floors from August 18. The first schedule in Ernakulam will last for 10 days before shifting to Kozhikode.

Haneef Adeni has become a popular name in the Malayalam film industry circles within a very short span of time. The youngster has established himself as a serious talent with just two films – The Great Father and Abrahaminte Santhathikal. While the former was directed by him, he donned the scriptwriter’s hat for Abrahaminte Santhathikal. As both the movies turned out to be big hits at the box office, expectations are naturally high for his next with Nivin Pauly.

Haneef has reportedly scripted Mikhael as a family thriller. The movie comes with the tagline ‘Guardian Angel’. It has been planned to be shot across Indian and foreign locations. Meanwhile, the makers have released a casting call seeking aspiring actors, both male and female, between the age group of 19 and 23.

Suriya and Karthi donate Rs 25 lakhs to Kerala Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund

Kerala is witnessing its worst floods in a long time as rains continue to wreak havoc in several parts of the state. Rescue and rehabilitation efforts continue for the third day with combined efforts by thousands of people. The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority has issued a red alert for eight districts following a heavy rainfall warning by the weather office. The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services has also issued a tidal flooding alert for the state from August 11 to 15.

Meanwhile, donations continue to pour in to the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund. Tamil actors Suriya and Karthi have donated a sum of Rs 25 lakhs to the fund. Both the actors have big fan following in the state and it is indeed a great gesture by them to help those affected in the floods. More film personalities and celebrities from other fields are coming forward with donations to help the flood-affected people of Kerala. Earlier, the states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka had earlier contributed Rs 5 crores and 10 crores respectively. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan gratitude to the governments of both the states for their financial assistance.

The Kerala government has announced that a sum of Rs 4 lakh each would be would be provided to kin of the deceased and families who had lost their houses in the floods. A sum of Rs 10 lakh each, which includes Rs 6 lakh for purchasing land and Rs 4 lakh for constructing house, will be provided from those families who had lost their properties in landslides and floods.

After Kayamkulam Kochunni, Rosshan Andrrews and Nivin Pauly to team up for ‘The Pirates of Diego Garcia’

Nivin Pauly is currently awaiting the release of Kayamkulam Kochunni. This period flick directed by Rosshan Andrrews is touted to be Nivin’s biggest film till date. It was shot for over 161 days in multiple schedules on a budget of Rs 45 crores. Malayali audience are eagerly looking forward to the movie, which is slated to hit screens later this month.

Last year, we had reported about Nivin Pauly and Rosshan Andrrews planning to join hands for another big budget film after Kayamkulam Kochunni. Rosshan first revealed about such an idea while Kochunni’s shoot was about to kick-start. While many believed the project to have been dropped, the director has now informed that it is still on and script works for the same are progressing.

Titled as ‘The Pirates of Diego Garcia’, this period flick is being scripted by the director himself. Interestingly, this will be Rosshan’s maiden outing as a scriptwriter. Unni R was initially supposed to script the movie but he later opted out due to some unknown reasons.

As the title The Pirates of Diego Garcia suggests, it is a movie set in the backdrop of sea. It is said to be a survival story based on some true events that occurred in Kerala. The movie will reportedly explore some facets of Capri mythology. Like Kayamkulam Kochunni, this project is also being planned on a big canvas and talks are already on with a foreign company for its production. Apparently, Nivin listened to both the scripts at same time and immediately agreed to be part of it.

Rosshan Andrrews, however, did not reveal when he is planning to start shooting the movie. His next will be a Hindi film, which is a remake of one of his hit flicks in Malayalam. He has also committed to do a cop story in Malayalam, which is being scripted by Bobby-Sanjay. Nivin is also busy has a handful projects in his kitty.

We can expect an official word on The Pirates of Diego Garcia after the release of Kayamkulam Kochunni.

Odiyan is one movie that the whole Malayali cine lovers are eagerly looking forward to. The movie starring Mohanlal is based on the lives of odiyans, who stories are popular in Kerala’s folklore. Odiyans are people who practice odividya, which is a kind of black magic. This is the first time a movie is being based on odiyans which has raised the curiosity among the audience.

This interesting theme of odiyans and the mystrey surrounding their lives has inspired many creative designers to come up their own interpretations. Kannan Mammood a graphic designer has designed an excellent poster of Odiyan. The poster is grabbing eye balls for Mohanlal’s fierce avatar in it.

National Award winner Harikrishnan has scripted the movie based on odiyans and their lives. Odiyans were active in mediveal Kerala and this movie is set in three different timelines from pre-electricty days in the 1950s to 2000. Mohanlal plays the central role of odiyan Manikyan and the narrative follows his life from his childhood to his 60s.

Shrikumar Menon is directing this movie which also stars Prakash Raj and Manju Warrier in major roles. Antony Perumbavoor is producing Odiyan under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas. The movie is scheduled for a grand release on October 11.

Mani Ratnam’s ‘Chekka Chivantha Vaanam’ (CCV) is one of the most awaited Tamil movies of the year. The movie has a stellar star comprising of Arvind Swamy, Vijay Sethupathi, Simbu, Arun Vijay, Aditi Rao Hydari, Jyothika and Aishwarya Rajesh in major roles. Shoot for the movie was wrapped up in June and the makers have now announced that it will hit screens worldwide on September 28. A grand audio launch is also being planned to be held on the first week of September.

Chekka Chivantha Vaanam is said to be a socio-political drama. Social drama has always been Mani Ratnam’s forte as he has proven with his films like Aayudha Ezhuthu (remade as Yuvaa in Hindi) and Kannathil Muthamittal. Reportedly, CCV discusses about industrial pollution and the environmental hazards associated with it. The director gave hints of the same with an intriguing first look poster which had industrial chimneys in the background.

CCV’s technical crew includes Mani Ratnam’s trusted regular set of technicians. Santhosh Sivan handles the cinematography and Sreekar Prasad is editing the movie. Maestro AR Rahman is composing the music. Lyca Productions is producing this movie on a first copy basis along with Mani Ratnam’s home banner Madras Talkies.
