Malayalam cinema’s heartthrob Dulquer Salmaan is celebrating his birthday today. Fans, well wishers and colleagues from across the globe have been pouring in their wishes for the star. The actor who is establishing himself has a pan Indian star has a couple of Tamil films in his kitty. The makers of his upcoming movie, Kannum Kannum Kollai Adithaal (KKKA) have released a special posters on the occasion of his birthday.

Dulquer and lead actress Ritu Varma feature in the poster. The movie directed by debutant Desingh Periyasamy is touted to be a romantic travelogue. The movie has Dulquer playing the role of Sidharth aka Sid, a happy go lucky IT professional in this upcoming movie. The actor who is known for his penchant for trying different styles, will reportedly be seen in multiple looks in this movie.

KKKA is his fourth Tamil movie after Vaayai Moodi Pesavum, Solo (both bilinguals) and OK Kanmani. Unlike his earlier Tamil films, KKKA will have some stylish heroic elements as his character will be a larger than life one. K M Bhaskar is cranking the camera and popular music band Masala Cafe have been signed to compose for the movie.

Anto Joseph is producing the movie under the banner of Anto Joseph Film Company. An official announcement regarding the release date is expected to be made shortly.

Malayalam cinema’s heartthrob Dulquer Salmaan is celebrating his birthday today. Colleagues, fans and well wishers from across the globe have been pouring in their best wishes for the star. The makers of his upcoming Tamil movies, Kannum Kannum Kollai Adithaal and Vaan, have released special posters on the occasion of his birthday.

Ra Karthik, who is making his directorial debut with Vaan, released the birthday special poster through his Twitter handle. Vaan, according to the makers, is a feel-good movie that has love, travel, emotions and every aspect of a light-hearted film. Pre-production works are currently progressing and shoot is expected to commence by the end of this year.

The movie has four female leads but the makers are yet to finalize the actors. The team is in talks with heroines like Nivetha Pethuraj and Shalini Pandey but an official announcement is still awaited. Vaan’s technical crew includes DOP George C Williams, well known for his splendid works in movies like ‘Theri’, ‘Kaththi’ and ‘Raja Rani’, multiple national award winning editor Sreekar Prasad and composer Dheena Dhayalan.

Selva Kumar J is bankrolling Vaan under the banner of Kenanya Films. The movie will be shot across the country with major portions set in North India. Himachal Pradesh, Gangtok, Kolkata, Goa, Chennai and Coimbatore are the major locations.

Many celebrated names from Indian and world cinema will be part of Randamoozham: Producer BR Shetty

As we already know, MT Vasudevan Nair’s award winning novel Randamoozham is getting made as a movie with superstar Mohanlal playing the central character of Bheemasenan. ‘Odiyan’ director VA Shrikumar Menon is set to direct this epic film. UAE based businessman Dr BR Shetty is investing a whopping Rs 1000 crores for the project. The much awaited announcement regarding when shoot kick-starts was made last day by the makers through social medias.

Randamoozham, touted to be the biggest film in Asia, will go on floors from July 2019. MT’s novel is actually based on the Indian epic Mahabharatha, told from the perspective of Bheemasenan. Leading actors from Indian cinema and Hollywood are expected to be part of the movie. The makers had hired a foreign casting agency to find suitable actors to play the host of characters in Mahabharatha.

Last day, while announcing the shoot commencement date through a series of tweets, producer Shetty also confirmed that many celebrated names from Indian and world cinema will be part of Randamoozham. Here are his tweets,

Randamoozham is being planned as a multilingual in English, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Hindi and Telugu languages. The movie will also have dubbed versions in all major Indian and foreign languages. This epic film will be made in two parts like the Baahubali series.

It’s a wrap for the Kerala schedule of Nayanthara-Nivin Pauly starrer Love Action Drama

Actor Dhyan Sreenivasan’s directorial debut Love Action Drama (LAD) starring Nivin Pauly and Nayanthara in the lead went on floors earlier this month. The team has already wrapped up their Kerala schedule. The makers have shared some location photos in social medias. After experimenting with his get ups in his last few outings, Nivin Pauly is back to his bearded handsome-young man look. He is teaming up with Nayanthara for the first time and cinephiles are eagerly looking forward to watch their on-screen chemistry.

Dhyan himself has scripted this movie, which is actually a modern day take on the yesteryear hit film ‘Vadakkunokkiyanthram’, directed by his father Sreenivasan. Interestingly, the lead characters in LAD are also named as Dineshan and Shobha. Following the announcement of the title and character names, it was speculated to be a spoof but Dhyan has denied it.

Nayanthara plays a Palakkad Brahmin girl in the movie while Nivin is someone who belongs to a rich family. The movie traces the lives of these two people. Nivin Pauly’s character will have a few similarities to Dineshan of Vadakkunokkiyanthram, but there will be no other resemblance. Aju Varghese, Urvashi, Dhanya Balakrishnan, Sreenivasan and Jude Anthany Joseph are also part of the supporting cast.

Love Action Drama has music by the ever reliable Shaan Rahman. Aju Varghese is venturing into production by funding this movie jointly with Vishak Subramaniam under the banner of Funtastic Films.

Mammootty’s comeback film in Tamil, Peranbu is gearing up for released. The movie, which was selected for a couple of international film festivals, is directed by Ram. The makers have released a new song today through social medias. The track ‘Vaanthooral’ is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja and rendered to perfection by Sriram Parthasarathy. The legendary Vairamuthu has penned its soulful lyrics.

The makers had earlier released two teasers and from the promos, it heart-wrenching film. The movie reportedly tells an emotional tale of a doting father and his autistic child. Mammootty and National award winner Sadhana of ‘Thanga Meengal’ fame essay these roles respectively.

Peranbu won international acclaim after it was screened at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR) and the Shanghai International Film Festival. It secured 20th position amongst the 187 films considered for the audience award category in IFFR and was also nominated for the prestigious NETPAC award. Critics and celebrities who got to watch the movie have been heaping praise on Ram’s craft and Mammootty’s performance.

Peranbu also stars Anjali, Samuthirakani, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Anjali Ameer and Siddique in supporting roles. The songs composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja have already been lapped up by the music lovers. The movie’s release date is expected to be announced shortly.

Noted scriptwriter Sethu is making his directorial debut this movie, which is touted to be a rural based fun entertainer. After the colourful posters, this newly teaser clearly heightens the expectations. The movie promises to be a clean entertainer that families seek during the festive Onam season.

Oru Kuttanadan Blog marks the directorial debut of writer Sethu. Anu Sithara, Raai Laxmi and Shamna Kasim play the three female leads. The movie also has new-gen actors like Jacob Gregory, Shaheen Siddique, Vivek Gopan, Sanju Sivaram and Jude Anthany Joseph in prominent roles. Young star Sunny Wayne is also said to be playing a cameo role in the movie.

Oru Kuttanadan, scripted by Sethu, is narrated interestingly through various episodes of a blog. The core plot is set in a village named Krishnapuram. Mammootty plays the role of Hari, a big-brother like figure, fondly called as Hari ettan in the locality.

Nedumudi Venu, Siddique, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Vineeth Kumar, Lalu Alex, Thesni Khan, Nandan Unni and Sohan Seenulal are also part of the supporting cast. ‘Idea Star Singer’ fame Sreenath Sivasankaran is debuting as a composer with this movie. Pradeep Nair has cranked the camera and Bijibal handles the music department. Shameer Muhammed is editing the movie.

Oru Kuttandan Blog is being produced by Murali Dharan and Santha Murali under the banner of Anantha Vision. Reports suggest that the movie will hit screens on August 24, though an official confirmation is still awaited.

Asha Sarath has been doing a variety of roles lately. While she played a tough CBI officer in the Tamil-Telugu bilingual Bhaagamathie, she essayed the role of woman from the 1930s in Jayaraj’s National award winning Bhayankam. Her performance in the latter was applauded by the critics. Asha is also playing the female lead in Ranjith’s upcoming movie, Drama. The movie has her playing the role of Mohanlal’s wife.

Asha has pinned high hopes on Drama. The movie is entirely set in the UK. It is about the lives of Malayalis living abroad. Asha Sarath plays the role of Rekha. In a recent interview to DC, she revealed that we will get to see the old, bubbly Mohanlal in the movie. According to her, the movie will be a complete entertainer that will make the audience think and laugh out loud.

Interestingly, this is the third time Asha is playing the role of Mohanlal’s wife. They were also seen as a couple in Karmayodha and 1971: Beyond Borders. Apart from the that, they have also acted together in hit films like Drishyam and Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol. They both share a great rapport and that has always reflected on their performances on-screen.

Ranjith has scripted Drama as a feel-good movie with good dose of humour, sentiments and family drama. Unlike his earlier films with Mohanlal, Drama will not have any superstar elements such as massive action scenes or dialogues
Arundhathi Nag, Siddique, Niranj, Mythili, Shalin Zoya and Tini Tom and Baiju are also part of the movie’s cast.

MK Nassar and Maha Subair are jointly producing the movie under the banners of Lilypad Motion Pictures and Varnachithra Good Line Productions. It is expected to hit have a grand release in September.

Maradona Review: An impressive film coming from a new team!

Tovino Thomas starrer Maradona has hit screens today. Vishnu Narayan is directing this movie, script for which is written by Krishnamoorthy. The makers had kept the promos very minimal without letting out what’s in store for the audience. Let’s see how the movie has turned out to be.

The movie tells the story of two Malayali youngsters, Sudhi and Maradona, who are in to ‘quotation’ and other odd jobs to see quick money. They are forced to be on the run after messing with a highly influential politician. The story is primarily centred around Maradona, who takes shelter with one of his relatives in Bangalore. The movie explores how the people around influence him to become a better person.

The narrative style employed by Vishnu Narayan and his writer Krishnamoorthy is quite impressive with two parallel tracks – one with Maradona and the other involving the gang who are on the lookout for him and Sudhi. During his life in the high rise building, Maradona goes through many changes for the good. His character arc is well-sketched and Tovino’s earnest performance makes it even more convincing.

Vishnu Narayan has made a solid debut, be it with the story telling or extracting the best from his lead actors or with the use of music to convey the emotions. Particularly impressive was how well the Chikmagalur action sequence has been choreographed. The screenplay has its highs and lows but the stand out element is the romance track between Maradona and Asha.

The makers have handled it very maturely with no cheesy dialogues or unnecessary melodrama. The boyish charm with which Tovino performs is a delight to watch. Equally good was his other shade, where he had to showcase the tougher side of Maradona. Debutante Sharanya R Nair, who plays the role of a part-time home nurse, makes an impression right from her first scene and brings out a genuine portrayal of a bubbly-yet-strong young girl.

Chemban Vinod Jose has an interesting character in the movie. He has a story of his own, unlike the usual one-dimensional gangster, who is on a mission to hunt down. Kichu Tellus, Tito Wilson, Leona Lishoy, Jins Baskar and the old man, who plays the neighbor, have also given good performances.

Sushin Shyam’s beautifully composed songs are finely woven around the story, and are effectively used as a tool to take the plot forward. On the down side, the latter half is slightly lengthy and it affects the pace. But still, editor Saiju Sreedharan has managed to keep the audience engaged. The climax part has been conceived well and thankfully doesn’t try to feed spoon-feed anything.

Maradona is a film which is shaky at times but is still impressive from an overall perspective. Good performances, delightful music and some clever writing towards the end lands the movie safely.

Rosshan Andrrews is a highly revered filmmaker in Malayalam cinema circles. The director is well known for his films like Udayananu Tharam, Evidam Swargamanu, Mumbai Police and How Old Are You. He has frequently collaborated with writer duo Bobby-Sanjay; their latest being Kayamkulam Kochunni. As per latest reports, the combo is all set to team up once again.

Rosshan Andrrews’ next after Kayamkulam Kochunni will be a cop thriller. Bobby and Sanjay are currently working on the movie’s script. The makers have not yet disclosed about the lead cast or other details regarding the story. In 2013, the same team joined hands for Mumbai Police, which is widely rated as one of the finest cop flicks to have been made in Malayalam cinema.

As Mumbai Police enjoys great fan following among the audience, expectations will naturally be huge for Rosshan-Bobby-Sanjay team’s upcoming movie as well. When the same team is reuniting for a police story, Malayali cinephiles are very much excited about it. An official announcement is expected to be made shortly.

Superstar Mohanlal’s presence in an extended cameo role is one of the movie’s major attractions. Kayamkulam Kochunni is slated for a grand Onam release next month.
