En Anpe: Here’s a new song from Mamta Mohandas starrer Neeli

Horror flicks rarity in Malayalam cinema unlike other Indian film industries. Prithviraj’s Ezra was the lasted noted horror movie made in Malayalam. Coming up next is debutant Althaf Rahman’s ‘Neeli’ starring Mamta Mohandas in the lead. A new song from the movie was released last day in social medias by ace filmmaker Sathyan Anthikad.

The song titled ‘En Anpe’ is penned by BK Harinarayanan. Bomaby Jayashree has lent her voice for this beautiful track composed by Sharreth. Mamta Mohands and Baby Mia feature in the video. Neeli’s audio launch was held recently in the presence of filmmakers like Joshiy, Siddique and Madhupal.

The title Neeli is a slight cue to Kalliyankattu Neeli, a very popular ghost story in Kerala. A horror movie of the same name was made way back in 1979. Neeli is jointly by newcomers Riyas Marathu and Muneer Mohammadunni. The movie stars Anoop Menon in a crucial role as a paranormal investigator. Baburaj, Zinil Zainudeen and ‘Marimayam’ fame Sreekumar are also part of the movie’s cast.

Neeli’s technical crew inlcudes cinematographer Manoj Pillai, composer Sharreth and editor Sajan. Dr Sundar Menon is producing the movie under the banner of Sun Ads and Film Productions.

As we had already reported, Pranav Mohanlal’s next is to be directed by Arun Gopy of Ramaleela fame. The movie titled as Irupathiyonnaam Noottaandu is set to start rolling from this Friday (July 27). First schedule of the movie will be held in Kochi. Tomichan Mulakupadam is producing the movie under his banner Mulakupadam Films.

Though the movie’s title Irupathiyonnaam Noottaandu is a slight cue to Mohanlal’s yesteryear superhit film Irumpatham Noottaandu, the makers have confirmed that it is not a sequel. It is touted to be an action packed adventure thriller with a complete commercial packaging. A debutante has been signed to play the female lead. Other details about the support cast have not yet been revealed.

In the technical front, Abinandan Ramanjunam will be cranking the camera and Gopi Sunder will be handling the music department. Editor Vivek Harshan, sound designer Renganaath Ravee and art director Joseph Nellickal are also part of the team. Peter Hein, one of India’s most wanted action choreographers, has been roped in for this movie. Pranav’s ability to perform stunts were proven with his debut movie, Aadhi. So, fans are highly excited to see Pranav’s action under the choreography of Peter Hein.

Suriya’s NGK not to clash with Sarkar this Diwali

Tamil cinema has not seen a big blockbuster this year yet. Trade people and industry insiders have pinned high hopes on the Diwali season as some biggies are slated for release. Vijay’s Sarkar and Suriya’s NGK were announced as Diwali releases but as per latest reports the latter has pulled out of the race.

NGK, a political thriller directed by Selvaraghavan has Suriya, Sai Pallavi and Rakul Preet Singh in the lead roles. Things were right on track for Diwali release but Selvaraghavan had reportedly underwent an appendix surgery, following which the shooting schedules were delayed unexpectedly. The makers are yet to officially announce about the postponing.

NGK is said to be one of the most challenging films that Suriya has done so far in his career. The actor plays Nanda Gopala Kumaran, a political activist. The movie is eagerly awaited by the Tamil cinema audience. Selvaraghavan is a highly revered filmmaker in Kollywood and commands a huge fan following. Him teaming up with Suriya for the first itself is a matter of excitement for the fans.

With NGK pulling out, other films are expected to join the Diwali race with Sarkar. One among Dhruva Natchathiram and Enai Nokki Paayum Thotta is confirmed for Diwali. More announcements are likely to be made in the coming days.

As informed earlier, the first single from Sivakarthikeyan starrer Seemaraja was released today in social medias. The song titled ‘Vaaren Vaaren Seemaraja’ is presumably the introduction song of Sivakarthikeyan in the movie. Diwakar and Kavith Gopi have lent their voices for this track composed by D Imman. Yubgabharathi has penned the lyrics.

Seemaraja is directed by Ponram, marking his third time collaboration with Sivakarthikeyan after the blockbusters, Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam and Rajini Murugan. Just like their previous films, Seemaraja is also touted to be a rural mass-comedy entertainer. The movie has Samantha paired with Sivakarthikeyan for the first time.

Simran, one of the leading heroines of her time, is playing a negative role while Keerthy Suresh is also there in a cameo role in the movie. The supporting cast includes Malayali actor Lal, Napoleon, Soori, Motta Rajendran, Sathish, Yogi Babu and Manobala among others.

Balasubramaniem cranks the camera and D Imman handles the music department. Seemaraja is gearing up to hit screens this coming September. A grand audio and teaser launch has been planned to be held on August 3. RD Raja’s 24 AM Studios is producing the movie. It is the banner’s third successive film with Sivakarthikeyan after the successful Remo and Velaikkaran.

Biju Menon’s Padayottam has been in the making for sometime now. The movie is finally gearing up to hit screens next month for Onam. Debutant Rafeek Ibrahim is directing this movie, which is touted to be a serious comedy. Official teaser of the movie was shared today by actor Prithviraj through his social media handle.

Biju Menon has done a lot of negative roles in his career but he hasn’t played a proper gangster role yet. The wait ends with Padayottam, as the movie has him playing Chenkal Raju, a pucca local gangster based in the Chenkal Choola region in Trivandrum. The actor will be seen sporting a rugged mass look in the movie.

Padayottam is scripted jointly by newcomers Arun AR and Ajai Rahul. According to the makers, the movie is a serious comedy on the lines of Delhi Belly and Jigarthanda. The movie promises to be a laugh riot. Dileesh Pothan, Saiju Kurup, Anu Sithara, Lijo Jose Pellissery, Sudhi Koppa and Harish Kanaran are part of the supporting cast.

Satheesh Kurup is the cinematographer and Prashanth Pillai is handling the music department. Sophia Paul is producing the movie under the banner of Weekend Blockbusters.

The rise of Tovino Thomas from a supporting actor to a bankable star is quite remarkable. Over the last two years, the actor has made rapid strides to establish himself as one of the leading stars in Malayalam cinema at present. His last release in Malayalam, Mayaandhi was a big success, both critically and commercially. The movie also earned him widespread appreciation for his performance.

Tovino currently has his kitty full with a bunch of promising projects. He has three films coming up for release this year – Maradona, Theevandi and Oru Kupprasidha Payyan. Among them, Maradona will be the first to hit screens. The movie directed by Vishnu Narayan is all set for release this Friday (July 27).

Tovino has pinned high hopes on Maradona. In a recent interview, he sounded highly confident about the movie and assured that the audience will not be disappointed. Vishnu Narayan, who has assisted directors like Dileesh Pothan, Aashiq Abu and Sameer Thahir, is making his directorial debut with Maradona. Krishnamoorthy, a former associate of Lijo Jose Pellissery, has scripted the movie.

Maradona is a romantic thriller with inspiring feel-good elements in it. Tovino plays the titular role in the movie. Newbie Sharanya R Nair is playing the female lead opposite him. Chemban Vinod Jose, Kichu Tellus, Tito Wilson, Leona Lishoy, Niranjan, Jins Bhaskar, Shalu Rahim and Nishthar Ahamed are also part of the movie’s supporting cast supporting cast.

Deepak D Menon is the cinematographer and Sushin Shyam is handling the music department. Saiju Sreedharan, who did the cuts for Mayaanadhi is editing this upcoming movie as well. It is being produced by S Vinod Kumar under the banner of Mini Studio.

Prakash Raj denies signing memorandum against Mohanlal attending Kerala State Awards ceremony

Last day, a mass petition was filed by over 100 people from various walks of life, to the Chief Minister requesting him to not invite Mohanlal as the chief guest for this year’s Kerala State Film Awards presentation ceremony. Some of the popular names among the signatories were Prakash Raj, Rajeev Ravi, Geetu Mohandas, Dr Biju, Rima Kallingal, Santhosh Thundiyil and Beena Antony.

However, Prakash Raj, whose name was supposedly put first in the list of petitioners, has come out clarifying that he has not signed any memorandum against Mohanlal attending the State Awards function. In a video posted in his social media handle, Prakash Raj said,

“This is to clarify the news, a news that has been going around that I have signed a memorandum against Mohanlal attending Kerala State Award function, which is false. Not have I signed any such memorandum, nor am I aware of such a memorandum. Yes, I have my differences with the decisions A.M.M.A had taken and I have very clearly told my stands that I don’t accept it. It is insensitive to have taken such a decision. But this news that I am singling out Mohanlal, who is such a statured actor and that I have been part of signing a memorandum is false, and this is for everyone that I have not signed any such memorandum as far as this is concerned. Thank you!”

Cinematographer Santhsoh Thundiyil and filmmaker Kamal, whose names were included in the petitioners, have also denied signing any such memorandum. Meanwhile, Cultural Affairs Minister AK Balan has made it clear that the government is yet to take decision to invite Mohanlal or not. The superstar, who is busy shooting for Lucifer, has also informed that he still has not got any official invite from the government.

After a year long gap, Dulquer Salmaan is making his return to Malayalam cinema with Oru Yamandan Premakadha. The movie marks the directorial debut of BC Noufal, who has previously helmed some popular TV shows. The superhit writer duo of Bibin George and Vishnu Unnikrishnan are scripting it. Anto Joseph is producing the movie under his
banner Anto Joseph Film Company.

As per latest reports, the makers have signed Nikhila Vimal and Samyuktha Menon as the female leads. Nikhila is well known for her performance in Love 24×7 and Aravindante Athidhikal. She is currently shooting for the Sathyan Anthikad directorial Njan Prakashan in which she will be seen as Fahadh Faasil’s pair. Samyuktha, meanwhile, has two films coming up in Malayalam – Lilli, which has her in the titular role, and Theevandi alongside Tovino Thomas.

Oru Yamandan Premakadha is expected to be a complete commercial entertainer on the lines of Vishnu Unnikrishnan-Bibin George duo’s previous scripts, Amar Akbar Anthony and Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan. Salim Kumar, Soubin Shahir, Hareesh Kanaran, Dharmajan and Vishnu Unnikrishnan are also part of the movie’s cast.

Dulquer will be seen as a local Malayali chap in the movie. The story is set in the Fort Kochi and Mattanchery region, a terrain explored numerous times in Malayalam cinema. But the makers have assured that the audience can expect to see an unseen fun side of Dulquer in this movie.

The ongoing schedule in Kochi will be wrapped up by July 31 and the next leg of shoot will commence only by November as Dulquer is busy with other commitments. The actor will start shooting for his new Hindi film, The Zoya Factor from next month.

Jayasurya is currently going through a purple patch with some well deserved hits under his belt. His latest release Njan Marykutty has earned him widespread praise for his performance. Apart from the critical acclaim, the Ranjith Sankar directorial has also emerged successful at the box office. This is his foruth hit film on a trot after Punyalan Private Limited, Aadu 2 and Captain.

As per latest reports, the actor has now committed for a new movie with Midhun Manuel Thomas. The combo of Jayasurya and Midhun are hugely popular for their ‘Aadu’ franchise. However, their next outing will be for a film out of the Aadu series. The director confirmed this in a new recent interview. Just like Midhun’s earlier films, this upcoming one with Jayasurya will also be a complete fun entertainer.

The movie is still in its early stages. They are planning to go on floors by the end of this year after Jayasruya finishes his works for Pretham 2 with Ranjith Sankar. Midhun, meanwhile, is also working on the script of Kottayam Kunjachan that has megastar Mammootty in the lead.
