Director Fazil to play a crucial role in Mohanlal’s Lucifer

The much hyped Mohanlal starrer Lucifer went on floors recently. Actor Prithviraj is making his directorial debut with this movie scripted by Murali Gopy. Touted to be a political thriller, the makers are planning it as a mass entertainer that is worthy of Mohanlal as an actor and a star. Antony Perumbavoor is producing the movie under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas.

Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi and Indrajith have already been confirmed in the movie’s cast. Tovino Thomas, Murali Gopy, Manju Warrier and ‘Queen’ fame Saniya Iyappan are also rumoured to be part of the movie but the makers are yet to give an official word. Latest reports suggest that ace filmmaker Fazil is playing a crucial role in the movie. The veteran, who has made a number of memorable films, has been away from the industry for a long while.

As per reports, Fazil is playing the role of a priest, who is like a father-like figure to Mohanlal’s character, in Lucifer. It is worth a mention that it was Fazil who introduced Mohanlal to the world of cinema with his debut directorial, ‘Manjil Virinja Pookkal’. Later they worked together in films like Poovinu Puthiya Poonthennal, Manichitrathazhu, Harikrishnans Vismayathumbathu etc. They both have also acted together in Nokketha Dhoorathu Kannum Nattu, in which the director played a cameo role. It will be interesting to see them sharing screen space in Lucifer after a gap of 33 long years.

Kamal Haasan criticizes Mohanlal and A.M.M.A for reinstating Dileep

The Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes’ (AMMA) decision to reinstate actor Dileep and their studied silence in the issue continues to be talked about. Ever since AMMA decided to take back the actor, who was suspended last year following his alleged involvement in the actress-assault case, the body has been facing severe backlash from within the industry as well as the general public.

Kamal Haasan, who is known to be one of the most outspoken actors in the country, recently came down hard at the Mohanlal-led AMMA for their stand in the issue. Haasan made it clear that it wrong from their part to welcoming back the accused actor into the fold. He also added that his words might affect his relationship with his peers in Malayalam industry but that won’t stop him from making his point.

“Mohanlal is a dear friend of mine, we are almost neighbors. There is a possibility that he won’t agree with my views, but that doesn’t imply that I need to say good things about him. Tomorrow, if he doesn’t align with my political views, he will speak up and I will not hold it against him.”

Kamal also expressed his shock over the failure of male actors to not have the mindset to accept gender equality. He also extended his solidarity with the female actors who are fighting for the cause and the opinions put forward by the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC).
