Official: Suriya and Mohanlal team up for the first time!!

As we had earlier reported, Suriya will be joining with his KV Anand for his next after the ongoing Selvaraghavan movie, NGK. Late into last night, a huge news was broke by director KV Anand through his Twitter handle. Malayalam superstar Mohanlal is playing a crucial role alongside Suriya in this yet-to-be titled movie. The two stars will be sharing screen space for the first time, so fans as well as the common audience are highly excited about it.

Earlier, there were reports about the makers approaching Amitabh Bachchan for the movie but it didn’t materialize. We presume that the same role eventually reached Mohanlal’s hands. In the last few years, Mohanlal has been open to doing non-Malayalam movies with younger generation stars. In 2014, he did Jilla with Vijay and two years later, in 2016, he did Janatha Garage with Jr NTR.

KV Anand had earlier informed that this upcoming movie will be a racy action thriller. He is scripting the movie jointly with famous novelist Pattukottai Prabhakar. Gavemic U Ary, well known for his stellar work in Jigarthanda, will be wielding the camera and Kiran, a regular in KV Anand movies, is handling the production design. Harris Jayaraj has been signed as the music director. One of Kollywood’s leading banners, Lyca Productions is funding this movie.

More details regarding the title and when the movie goes on floors are expected to be announced in the coming days.

Mahanati, the Telugu biopic on legendary actress Savitri continues to get rave reviews from all corners. The movie was released last day to overwhelming response from the audience. Social medias are abuzz with congratulatory posts for the makers for coming up with such a fitting tribute for the great actress. Filmmakers like Atlee, Vamsi Paidipally and many others had lauded director Nag Ashwin and his team for Mahanati.

All the lead actors in the movie – Keerthy Suresh, Dulquer Salmaan and Samantha – have reportedly given their career best performances. Dulquer, who is making his Telugu debut, is being showered with appreciation from the Telugu audience. Ace filmmaker SS Rajamouli tweeted about Dulquer’s performance and declared himself as a fan. The director posted,

Keerthy Suresh’s potrayal of Savitri garu is one of the finest performances I’ve ever seen. It is not just imitating. She brought the legendry actress back to life. Reciprocating the love, Dulquer replied back about how much it means for him to see such kind words from someone like Rajamouli. He has written,

I’m literally a fanboy of yours sir. This coming from you is such a huge deal for me ! Thank you so much for the kind words and text. Eternally grateful !

Mahanati is a movie centred around the life of Savitri. The narrative follows her life from the 1940s to 1980s. Though the movie mostly revolves around Savitri’s life, Dulquer as Gemini Ganesan is one of the principal characters in the movie. Savitri was briefly married to Gemini Ganesan and the movie shows some lesser known details about their relationship.

Mahanati’s Tamil (Nadigayar Thilagam) and Malayalam (Mahanadi) versions are slated for release on May 11.

Ever since he won the National award, Suraj Venjaramoodu has been on a totally different league finding the right balance between comic and performance-oriented roles. After giving amazing performances in movies like Action Hero Biju, Kammattipadam, Varnyathil Aashanka and Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, Suraj is set to bowl over the audience with his latest outing, Kuttanpillayude Sivarathri. The movie directed by Jean Markose of ‘Angels’ fame is slated to hit screens tomorrow (May 11).

Kuttanpillayude Sivarathri scripted by newcomer Joselet Joseph is touted to be a realistic family drama. Suraj Venjaramoodu plays the lead role of Plachottil Kuttan Pillai, a 58-year-old senior police constable. It is said to be one of the most challenging roles he has ever played. Kuttanpilla is someone who is very tough on the outer but is caring and compassionate within. Suraj has mentioned that he drew inspiration from his father to play the role of Kuttanpilla.

The core plot of Kuttanpillayude Sivarathri is centred around a series of events that occur in Kuttan Pillai’s house when his relatives – his children, their spouses and extended family – converge at his humble home to attend the annual Shiva Rathri festival. Biju Sopanam of ‘Uppum Mulakum’ fame and Srinda Arhaan play a couple in the movie. Mithun Ramesh, Srikant Murali, Kochu Preman, Poojappura Radhakrishnan, Rajesh Manarkad and James Eliyas are also part of the supporting cast.

Kuttanpillayude Sivarathri is releasing tomorrow amidst a positive buzz. Movie lovers are waiting for another wonderful performance from Suraj. Raji Nandakumar is producing the movie under the banner of Alanghat Productions.

Mahanati has Keerthy Suresh playing Savitri while Dulquer Salmaan, who is making his Telugu debut, essays the role of Gemini Ganesan. The movie follows Savitri’s life from the 1940s to 1980s. The story evolves as two journalists, played by Samantha and Vijay Deverakonda, set out to piece together the story of Savitri’s life. The cast also includes Naga Chaitanya, Shalini Pandey, Malavika Nair, Prakash Raj, Rajendra Prasad and Mohan Babu.

Bilathikadha dropped; Mohanlal and Ranjith join hands for a new project

We had earlier reported about ace filmmaker Ranjith doing a romantic entertainer titled ‘Bilathikadha’. Mohanlal, Maniyanpilla Raju’s son Niranj and Anu Sithara were supposed to play lead roles in the movie. Ranjith had scripted the movie jointly with Sethu. It was initially planned to go on floors earlier this year but it kept postponing due to various reasons.

The latest we hear is that the project has been dropped. Instead, Mohanlal and Ranjith will be joining hands for a fresh project. Shoot for this yet-to-be titled movie is slated to kick-start on May 14. Mohanlal has allotted 30 days for the movie after which he will be joining the sets of Prithviraj’s directorial debut Lucifer.

Mohanlal and Ranjith team have an enviable track record. Even before turning a director, Ranjith has scripted many hit films for Mohanlal like Devasuram, Aaraam Thampuran, Ustad, Narasimham etc. They last teamed up for Loham, which failed to impress the critics. Fans and common audience are eagerly looking forward to a quality film from the duo this time.

Their upcoming movie is being produced jointly by an UK based company Lilypad Motion Pictures and Varnachitra Big Screen. It is slated to hit screens for this year’s Onam in August.

Sai Pallavi made a stunning entry to cinema in 2015 with Alphonse Puthren’s Premam. Her performance in the movie was widely appreciated and won quite a few hearts as well. Mohanlal’s Neerali is getting ready to hit screens next month for Eid. The movie directed by Ajoy Varma promsies to be an action packed adventure thriller. The recently released teaser gave glimpses of exactly the same. We now hear that the movie’s trailer will be released on Mohanlal’s birthday, which falls on 21 May. If turns out to be true, the trailer will be a special birthday treat for all his fans across the globe.

Neerali has Mohanlal playing the role of Sunny George, a gemologist by professor. Nadhiya Moidu, who is making her comeback to Malayalam, is playing his wife in the movie. The supporting cast also includes Parvatii Nair, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Dileesh Pothan, Sai Kumar, Megha Mathew and Nasser.

Neerali’s shoot was wrapped in quick time and the movie has been in the post-production phase for around two months now. Since it is an adventure thriller, the movie demands a lot of VFX works and the makers have signed one of India’s leading VFX companies to handle the same. According to our sources close to the unit, Neerali will have the best quality visual effects that Malayalam cinema has ever seen.

Neerali’s technical crew includes noted Bollywood cinematographer Santhosh Thundiyil and composer Stephen Devassy. Director Ajoy Varma himself is editing the movie. Santhosh T Kuruvilla’s Moonshot Entertainment is co-producing the movie with John Thomas and Mibu Jose Nettikdan.

After a six month long break, Ajith has started shooting once again. He is now in Hyderabad shooting for Viswasam, his upcoming movie directed by Siva. Nayanthara is playing the female lead in this movie touted to be a rural based mass entertainer. Shoot officially kick-started on May 7 and this first schedule will reportedly last for around 30 days.

Viswasam is Ajith’s fourth film with Siva after working with him in Veeram, Vedhalam and Vivegam. While the former two were regular mass entertainers, Vivegam was an ambitious attempt in making a spy-thriller. The movie was made on a lavish budget with a big star cast but failed to impress the critics. Ajith and Siva will be hoping to comeback to winning ways with Viswasam.

As per reports, Ajith will be sporting a new look for the movie. The actor has been working hard to trim down his physique. In his most of his recent films, Ajith has been sporting the same salt and pepper look. Fans are eagerly waiting to see the dashing young Ajith in this upcoming movie. Robo Shankar, Yogi Babu and Bose Venkat are also part of the supporting cast.

Vijay’s upcoming movie with AR Murugadoss, tentatively titled Thalapathy 62, one of the most anticipated Tamil films of the year. This is the actor-director duo’s third outing together after the blockbuster successes of Thupakki and Kaththi. Both the movies did a business of over Rs 100 crores and hence expectations are high for the this upcoming movie as well.

As per latest reports, the much awaited title and first look of Thalapathy 62 will be released on Vijay’s birthday which falls on June 22. Interestingly, the title and first look of Vijay’s last film Mersal was announced on the same day, last year. Fans are highly excited for the first look after seeing an extremely stylish and sophisticated Vijay in the leaked stills.

Thalapathy 62 team is currently on a break. As per reports, they will be resuming shoot on May 15 in Chennai. Some talkie portions, a key action scene and dance number featuring Vijay and Keerthy Suresh will be shot in this upcoming schedule which will go on for two weeks.

Thalapathy 62 is said to be a political thriller. Director AR Murugadoss himself has scripted the movie, and dialogues are penned by noted writer Jeyamohan, who is also the co-writer of 2.O. Pala Karuppaiah, a politician in real life, is playing one in the movie as well. Veteran actor Radha Ravi essays the role of a MLA. Along with them, Varalaxmi Sarath Kumar is also playing a brief but very crucial role. These three actors are said to be the antagonists in the movie. Realistic fights choreographed by Ram-Laxman duo will be another major highlight. Sun Pictures is producing this big budget movie which has music by maestro AR Rahman.

Last day, the latest teaser of Mohanlal starrer Odiyan was released in social medias. This gripping three minute long teaser features Mohanlal walking through the streets of Thenkurissi. Composer Sam CS lifts the teaser to a whole new level with his pulsating background score. The ‘Odi Odi Odiyan’ score has already become a big rage among the fans.

Odiyan’s shoot was wrapped up only last month. The team shot for 123 days in multiple schedules lasting for around five months. Ad filmmaker VA Shrikumar Menon is making his directorial debut with this movie, touted to be a mass entertainer with elements of fantasy and magical realism. National award winner Hari Krishnan has scripted this movie based on the life of odiyans.

The movie is primarily about Odividya, a kind of black magic and people who practice it, called odiyans. The story is set in three different timelines starting from the pre-electricty days in the 1950s to 2000. Mohanlal plays the role of odiyan Manikyan and the movie follows his life from his childhood to his 60s.

Manju Warrier, Prakash Raj, Manoj Joshi, Siddique, Innocent, Kailash, Sana Althaf, Narain, Nandu and Sreejaya are also part of the cast. Technical crew includes cinematographer Shaji Kumar, editor John Kutty, music director M Jayachandran and action choreographer Peter Hein. Aashirvad Cinemas headed by Antony Perumbavoor is funding this big budget movie.
