Mahanati, the hugely hyped Telugu biopic on legendary actress Savitri, has hit screens today (May 9). The movie has opened to extremely positive reviews after the initial shows. Social medias have been abuzz with positive reviews from last night after the overseas shows. This Nag Ashwin directorial has Keerthy Suresh playing the role of Savitri while Malayalam star Dulquer Salmaan, who is making his Telugu debut, plays late actor Gemini Ganesan in the movie.

The two lead actors have been getting a lot of appreciation for their performance in Mahanati. Latest to praise them is ace filmmaker SS Rajamouli who rated Keerthy Suresh’s performance as one the finest he has ever seen while also officially declaring himself as a Dulquer Salmaan fan. The brief note in his social media handle reads,

Social medias have been abuzz from last night with reviews after the overseas shows. This Nag Ashwin directorial has Keerthy Suresh playing the role of Savitri while Malayalam star Dulquer Salmaan, who is making his Telugu debut, plays late actor Gemini Ganesan in the movie.

Seeing the overwhelming reviews, Dulquer has posted a note on his social media page thanking the whole cast and crew of Mahanati for offering him such an unforgettable experience. His post reads,

Arthana Binu, who made an impressive debut with Vipin Das’ comic caper Mudhugauv is trying to gain a foothold in the Tamil film industry. She will be next seen opposite composer-turned-actor GV Prakash in a rural comedy entertainer titled Semma. The movie is slated to hit screens on May 25.

Vallikanth is making his directorial debut with this movie which also stars Kovai Sarala, Yogi Babu, Sujatha Sivakumar and Mansoor Ali Khan in important roles. National award winning filmmaker Pandiraj has scripted and produced this movie under his banner of Pasanga Productions.

Arthana meanwhile is getting back to back offers in Tamil. After starring in Samuthirakani’s Thondan and Vennila Kabadikuzhu 2, the pretty actress is playing a crucial role in Kadai Kutty Singam in which she is acting alongside Karthi. This Pandiraj directorial has two other heroines – ‘Vanamagan’ fame Sayyeshaa and ‘Meyaadha Maan’ fame Priya Bhavani Shankar.

Meanwhile, Semma is expected to open to well in Tamil Nadu. Rural comedy entertainers have always had good market there and GV Prakash also enjoys good popularity. His last release, Naachiyar directed by Bala was both a critical and commercial hit.

The highly anticipated Mammootty starrer Abrahaminte Santhathikal is getting ready for release next month. The makers have informed that the first song from the movie will be released on May 14 at 7 PM in social medias. A new poster will also be released on on May 11 at 7 PM.

Abrahaminte Santhathikal marks the directorial debut of Shaji Padoor, a veteran who has been in the industry as an associate director for over two decades. Haneef Adeni of ‘The Great Father’ fame has scripted this movie, touted to be a cop-action thriller.
The movie has Mammootty playing the role of a police assistant superintendent, Derick Abraham.

Abrahaminte Santhathikal promsies to be a stylish thriller, on the lines of ‘The Great Father’. Anson Paul, noted for his roles in Solo, Aadu 2 and Oozham, is playing a crucial role as Mammootty’s brother in the movie. Kaniha, Siddique, Kalabhavan Shajon and newbie Maria John are also part of the movie’s supporting cast.

The technical crew comprises of cinematographer Alby Antony, composer Gopi Sunder and editor Mahesh Narayanan, who turned a director last year with the widely acclaimed ‘Take Off’. Joby George is producing Abrahaminte Santhathikal under the banner of Goodwill Entertainment.

Debutant Joshy Thomas Pallickal’s campus entertainer Naam is all set to hit screens this coming Friday (May 11). The movie, according to the makers, is not a regular college flick that deals with romance or politics, the two major tropes mostly used in Malayalam campus movies. It promsies to be a heartwarming tale of friendship and its value.

Naam stars Sabareesh Varma, Rahul Madhav, Aditi Ravi, Tony Luke, Noby Markose, Niranj Suresh, Sonu Sebastian, Ajay Mathew and Mareena Michael in major roles. Director Gautham Vasudev Menon, Tovino Thomas and Vineeth Sreenivasan appear in cameo roles. Interestingly, the above mentioned three of them did not take any remuneration to act in the movie. They agreed to be part of the movie after being impressed by its story.

Naam is special for Gautham Menon as it marks his first outing as an actor in Malayalam cinema. Though his is a brief role, it is very important to the storyline as he appears at a very crucial juncture. Tovino’s role is more of an extended cameo as the story is narrated to him.

Director Joshy Thomas himself has penned the story for the movie based on his real life experiences. It is basically the story of nine friends who are there for each other regardless of their backgrounds, religion, region etc. Recently, the censor board officials had watched the movie and appreciated the makers for the goodness element in it. The movie sends out a good message to the viewers about friendship and its value.

Keerthy Suresh is playing the role of Savitri while Malayalam star Dulquer Salmaan, who is making his Telugu debut, is playing late actor Gemini Ganesan in the movie. Samantha, Vijay Deverakonda, Shalini Pandey, Mohan Babu, Prakash Raj, Rajendra Prasad and Malavika Nair are part of the supporting cast.

In a recent interview attended by Samantha and Keerthy Suresh as part of promotions, both the actresses heaped praise on Dulquer for his performance in the movie. Dulquer’s character has grey shades and it was very challenging for him as the language was new to him. Still he mangaed to deliver a finely measured act while also dubbing by himself in Tamil and Telugu. Mohanlal’s much talked about Lucifer is finally going on floors from July this year. The project was first announced two years back when Mohanlal publicized that he will playing the lead in actor Prithviraj’s directorial debut, to be scripted by Murali Gopy. Ever since then, fans as well as the common audience have been eager to hear updates about the movie but the makers have remained tight-lipped all this while.

As the movie gets ready to start rolling, we gather some interesting information about the technical crew. Talks within the industry suggest that the highly-talented Deepak Dev has been signed as the music director. The composer shares a great rapport with Prithviraj as they have worked together in movies like Puthiya Mukham, Urumi, 7th Day and Adam Joan. Deepak Dev has also scored some memorable tracks for Mohanlal in Naran, Udayananu Tharam and Christian Brothers. He is expected to deliver his best for Lucifer as well.

Lucifer is perhaps the most hyped Malayalam movie in recent times. The fact that two big stars like Mohanlal and Prithviraj are teaming up for the first time itself triggers massive expectations. It has been over an year since a movie titled ‘Aanenkilum Allenkilum’ has been announced. Fahadh Faasil and Sunny Wayne were supposed to play the lead roles in the movie to be directed by debutant Vivek. After a year, the project has now been revived and is all set to go on floors tomorrow (May 9). Sunny Wayne who is currently busy with the shoot of Kayamkulam Kochunni has been replaced by Sharafudheen.

Official title poster of Aanenkilum Allenkilum was unveiled last day through Fahadh Faasil’s social media handle. The movie has Catherine Teresa of ‘Madras’ fame playing Fahadh’s pair. Though Catherine started her acting career with the Prithviraj starrer Thriller, it was her performance in the Tamil movie Madras that made her popular.

Aanenkilum Allenkilum marks Catherine’s return to Malayalam after a long gap of eight years. In her comeback film, she will be seen in the role of a simple village belle. Director Vivek himself has written the story while screenplay is jointly penned by Vivek, Arun AR and Ajai Rahul. The movie is said to be a fun entertainer which will be shot in Bangalore, Pondicherry and Kootickal.

Fahadh Faasil and Sharafudheen, who have acted together in Role Models and Carbon, will be playing close buddies in this upcoming movie as well. Renji Panicker, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Alencier Ley Lopez and Thesni Khan are also part of the supporting cast. The movie’s technical team mostly comprises of youngsters. Anu Moothedath is the cinematographer and debutant PS Jayhari is the composer. ‘The Great Father’ fame Noufal Abdullah will be handling the edits.

Kollywood star Suriya was recently in Kerala to attend the 25th anniversary event of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) held at Trivandrum. The actor was personally invited to be the chief guests by superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty. Besides gracing the occassion with his presence, Suriya also donated a sum of Rs 10 lakhs to AMMA for their Guru Dakshana scheme, which is a pension plan for senior artists.

AMMA President and MP Innocent acknowleded Suriya’s kind gesture during the function. It is indeed a noble gesture by the actor, who has always been known for his benevolence. Suriya enjoys massive popularity in Kerala and that was evident when he attended the AMMA event. He also met his fans prior to attending the function in Trivandrum.

While speaking at the event Suriya was all praise for the Malayalam industry and its two superstars – Mohanlal and Mammootty. He also expressed his admiration for the quality of movies that are being made in Malayalam cinema. He even went on to call Mollywood as the best film industry in India. Suriya also thanked the Kerala government for the good hospitality and facilities offered to Tamil students who had visited Kerala to attend the NEET exams.
