Shreya Ghoshal lends her voice for a track in Mammootty’s Mamankam

One of the country’s leading playback singers, Shreya Ghoshal has lent her voice for the upcoming Malayalam movie Mamankam. Veteran composer M Jayachandran, with whom Shreya has collaborated for many memorable tracks, recorded her song for Mamankam last day. The movie directed by Sajeev Pillai is an epic historic-drama made on a massive scale.

Mamankam is one of the most hyped Malayalam movies in recent years. The movie marks the directorial debut of Sajeev Pillai, who is a former associate of Adoor Gopalakrishnan. Sajeev has scripted the movie after doing research works for nearly 12 years. Venu Kunnampilly of Kavya Films is funding this highly ambitious project.

The movie is based on the medieval fair, Mamankam, where brave warriors from across the country would come together to showcase their skills at combat. Mammootty plays a ‘Chaaver’ (warrior) in this movie, which revolves around the life of these warriors who plot to defeat the Zamorin rulers.

Apart from Mammootty, top stars from other industries will also be part of the movie. The female lead’s part will be played by a Bollywood actress while a young star from Tamil industry will be seen as the second hero. Neeraj Madhav, ‘Queen’ fame Dhruv, Sunil Sukhada, Meghanathan and Sohan Seenulal are already part of the supporting cast. Its technical crew includes cinematographer Ganesh Rajavelu a.k.a Jim Ganesh, action choreographer Kaecha and VFX supervisor Kamala Kannan, who has worked in several big projects in South Indian cinema.

Mamankam team is currently on a schedule break. The first schedule, which was wrapped up in February, was a brief one lasting for around the 15 days. The team shot for some important portions including a few action blocks. As per trustworthy reports, the second leg of shoot will kick-start by the first week of May.

A photo of Mohanlal uploaded by director Roshan Andrrews in his social media handle is still ruling the social media platforms. The photo was from the sets of Kayamkulam Kochunni in which Mohanlal is playing the role of Ithikkara Pakki. The 57-year-old superstar can be seen lifting one leg to more than 90 degrees with east, which speaks volumes about his agility and flexibility even at this age.

Rosshan Andrrews who has worked with Mohanlal previously in Udayananu Tharam, Casanovva and
Evidam Swargamanu, feels that there is a martial artist inside the actor. Apparently, Mohanlal didn’t need any special training for performing the stunts in Kayamkulam Kochunni. Though the movie has some risky stunts, Mohanlal has done them very effortlessly.

Kayamkulam Kochunni scripted by the National award winning duo Bobby and Sanjay is based on the life of legendary highwayman Kochunni, who was active in 19th century in the Travancore region. Young star Nivin Pauly plays Kochunni’s role in the movie. As per the makers, Mohanlal as Ithikara Pakki makes his appearance at a very crucial juncture in the story and has around 40 minutes screen time.

Ithikara Pakki is known to be the first legendary Robin Hood of Kerala; he and Kochunni were contemporaries. It was Pakki who started the unique style of robbing, which was later continued by Kochunni. Combination scenes between Mohanlal and Nivin Pauly would be the movie’s major highlight.

Kayamkulam Kochunni also stars Priya Anand, Sunny Wayne, Babu Antony and Kannada actress Priyanka Thimmesh in major roles. Mohanlal has already finished his portions. The team will soon be heading to Sri Lanka for the final schedule. Gokulam Gopalan of Sri Gokulam Films is producing this big budget movie.

Kerala schedule wrapped up for 9; Team heading to Himalayas for the next leg of shoot

Prithviraj’s ambitious sci-fi thriller 9 started rolling on April 9 in Pala. The team has wrapped up the first schedule today (April 18) and will next head to Himalayas for the next leg of shoot. Prithviraj himself informed this news through his official social media handle. The actor’s newly launched production house Prithviraj Productions is funding 9 aka Nine jointly with Sony Pictures International Productions.

Ace filmmaker Kamal’s son Jenuse Mohamed is directing this big budget movie. Nine is Jenuse Mohamed’s second film after he made an impressive debut with the Dulquer Salmaan starrer ‘100 Days of Love’. This upcoming movie is an ambitious sci-fi flick, probably the first of its kind in Malayalam cinema. If reports are to be believed, Prithviraj plays a scientist in this movie, the story of which happens over nine days.

The movie boasts of a strong technical crew comprising of cinematographer Abhinandan Ramanujam, well known for his works like ‘Amen’ and ‘Mosayile Kuthirameenukal’, and editor Shameer Muhammed. Shaan Rahman is composing the songs and ‘Da Thadiya’ fame Sekhar Menon has been signed to compose the original music score.

Nithya Menen and Parvathy are being considered for the two female leads but an official word has not yet been given. More details regarding the other cast members are expected to be revealed in the coming days. Stay tuned to this space for more updates.

SS Rajamouli’s next with Jr NTR and Ram Charan to be made on a budget of Rs 300 crores!

Ever since the release of Baahuabli 2: The Conclusion, there have been a wide range of speculations about director SS Rajamouli’s next movie. Rumor mills were abuzz with names like Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Mohanlal, Mahesh Babu etc. But it was recently confirmed that Rajamouli’s next will be a multistarrer with two of Telugu cinema’s leading stars, Jr NTR and Ram Charan.

This yet-to-be titled movie is produced by DVV Danayya under the banner of DVV Entertainments. The producer in a recent interview revealed that his upcoming project with Rajamouli will be a grand visual spectacle. A whopping budget of Rs 300 crores is being invested for this movie. Unlike Rajamouli’s Baahubali series, which was a VFX heavy film, this upcoming one is speculated to have a sports backdrop, wrestling to be precise.

Ram Charan and Jr NTR had recently traveled to Los Angeles as part of their preparations for this movie. Rajamouli’s son SS Karthikeya also accompanied the actors in their trip. Reportedly, some famous Hollywood technicians had conducted the look tests for both NTR and Ram Charan.

An official announcement of the title and details regarding the genre, and full cast and crew is expected to be made very soon.

KPAC Lalitha, Vijayaraghavan, Aju Varghese, Biju Kuttan, Salim Kumar, Kottayam Nazeer and Baiju form the movie’s supporting cast. As we had reported earlier, Salman Khan is teaming up with his ‘Sultan’ director Ali Abbas Zafar for a new movie titled ‘Bharat’. The movie which is the official adaptation of the 2014 Korean movie Ode to My Father went on floors last day. The makers have signed Priyanka Chopra to pair opposite Salman Khan in this upcoming movie.

Priyanka Chopra, who is a busy star in Hollywood, is doing a Bollywood movie after a two year long gap. She has acted with Salman Khan previously in movies like Priyanka and Salman are co-stars of Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Salaam-E-Ishq and God Tussi Great Ho. Reports suggest that Priyanka may quit Quantico, her American TV series, after the third season for her commitments to Bharat. In a recent statement, the actress sounded excited about working with Salman Khan and director Ali Abbas Zafar.

Bharat is scheduled as Salman Khan’s Eid release for 2019. Atul Agnihotri is producing this upcoming big big budget venture, which marks his second time collaboration with Salman after the blockbuster Bodyguard. Shoot for Bharat is currently progressing in London. Priyanka is expected to join the team very soon.

The film ‘Ode to My Father’ depicted modern Korean history from the 1950s to the present day through the life of an ordinary man and all major events that occured in the country. Salman’s Bharat is journey of a country and also a person, both of whom go by the same name. The makers are planning to shoot the movie extensively in Abu Dhabi and Spain, besides Punjab and Delhi in India.

Salman Khan, who recently got bail after the verdict on the blackbuck case, will also be finishing the remaining portions of Remo D’Souza’s Race 3, co-starring Jacqueline Fernandez, Anil Kapoor, Daisy Shah, Bobby Deol and Saqib Salem.

National award winner Suraj Venjaramoodu’s next outing as a lead actor, ‘Kuttanpillayude Sivarathri’, is gearing up for release. The makers have informed us that the movie will hit screens on May 4, Friday. Jean Markose of ‘Angels’ fame is directing this movie and newcomer Joselet Joseph has scripted it.

Kuttanpillayude Sivarathri promises to be a realistic family drama. Suraj Venjaramoodu plays the lead role of Plachottil Kuttan Pillai, a 58-year-old senior police constable. The movie’s recently released trailer continues to get good response from the viewers in social medias.

The movie’s plot is centred around a series of events that occur in Kuttan Pillai’s house when his relatives – his children, their spouses and extended family – converge at his humble home to attend the annual Shiva Rathri festival. Biju Sopanam of ‘Uppum Mulakum’ fame and Srinda Arhaan play a couple in the movie.

Mithun Ramesh, Srikant Murali, Kochu Preman, Poojappura Radhakrishnan, Rajesh Manarkad and James Eliyas are also part of the supporting cast. Fazil Nazer has handled the cinematography and Shibish K Chandran is in charge of the edits. The movie marks the debut of playback singer Sayanora Philip as a music director. The ‘Chakku Pattu’ composed by Sayanora has already emerged as a hit.

Theatrical rights of Prabhas’ Saaho bagged by T Series for a whopping Rs 125 crores!

‘Baahubali’ star Prabhas is currently shooting for his upcoming movie Saaho directed by Sujeeth. This big budget movie has a plethora of actors from industries across the country as per of its cast. Following the glorious success of Baahubali, Prabhas has become a nationwide sensation. To cash in on his huge popularity, the makers have planned Saaho as a trilingual in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi languages.

One of Bollywood’s leading banners, T Series has acquired the theatrical rights of Saaho for a whopping Rs 125 crores. T Series is collaborating with UV creations to distribute the film in the north Indian market. With T Series entering the scene, a wide release is now guaranteed for Saaho.

On bagging the rights for Saaho, T Series head Bhushan Kumar said, “The universality of Saaho is what appealed to me. While Prabhas is a pan India star, the film’s content and its treatment will give it a global appeal. It is an exciting collaboration and we are looking forward to present the film to our Hindi audience.”

Vamsi Krishna Reddy and Pramod Uppalapati are jointly funding this movie under the banner of UV Creations. In an attempt to give the movie a pan Indian appeal, the makers have been roped in several noted actors from various industries. Bollywood diva Shraddha Kapoor is playing the female lead. Veteran Bollywood star Jackie Shroff, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Chunky Pandey, Mandira Bedi, Mahesh Manjrekar, Arun Vijay, Lal and Tinnu Anand are playing prominent roles in the movie.

Prabhas sports an extremely stylish look in the movie. After the release of Baahuabli 2: The Conclusion, Prabhas had trimmed down his weight to sport a leaner physique in Saaho. It is a very ambitious project made on a huge scale. International stuntman Kenny Bates, famous for his works in Hollywood films like Die Hard and Transformers has been roped in to choreograph the high octane stunts in Saaho. Renowned cinematographer R Madhie is wielding the camera and the famed trio of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is handling the music department. The movie is slated for a 2019 release.

The highly anticipated Mammootty starrer Uncle is gearing up to hit screens. Last day, the movie’s official trailer was released by the makers. The mysterious build-up to Mammootty’s character and his grey shaded nature has piqued the curiosity of the audience. Fans as well as the commoners have pinned high hopes on Uncle after the trailer.

Gireesh Damodar, a former associate of Ranjith and Padmakumar, is making his directorial debut with this movie. Actor Joy Mathew has scripted this movie, his second outing as a scriptwriter after the critically acclaimed ‘Shutter’. Just like his previous movie, Uncle also looks like a socially relevant film. It tells the story of a teeange girl and her father’s friend. ‘CIA’ fame Karthika Muraleedharan and Mammootty play these two lead roles in the movie.

Apparently, the core plot is set in the journey of Mammootty’s character Krishnakumar aka KK from Ooty to Kozhikode. KK, a Mumbai based businessman, is accompanied by his friend’s daughter in this trip. It is about an unusual situation a middle class family is made to face. The social and political setting of Kerala is of much prominence in the movie.

Mammootty will be seen in a different role altogether in the movie. He is sporting a salt and pepper bearded look for his character, which is said to be a grey shaded one. It is highly exciting as Mammootty is playing such a performance oriented character after a long while.

Uncle also stars Joy Mathew, Asha Sharath, Ganapathi, Vinay Forrt, Suresh Krishna, Kailash, KPAC Lalitha and Muthumani in supporting roles. Its technical crew includes veteran cinematographer Azhagappan, music director Bijibal and editor Shameer Muhammed.

Joy Mathew and Sajai Sebastian are jointly funding the movie under their banners of Abra Films International and SJ Films. Reports suggest that Uncle will hit screens on April 27 but an official word from the makers is still awaited.
