Bhayanakam: Renji Panicker to play the lead in Jayaraj’s next after Veeram

National award winning filmmaker Jayaraj is teaming up with Renji Panicker for his next film in the Navarasa series. The movie titled as Bhayanakam is adapted from two chapters in legendary Thakazhi Shivashankara Pillai’s epic novel, Kayar. Renji Panicker will be seen in the role of a postman while Asha Sharath will play Gowri Kunjamma, a prominent character from Thakazhi’s novel.

Jayaraj started his ambitious nine-film Navarasa series in 2000 with Shantham, which won the National award for best feature film. He later made Karunam, Bhibatsa (Hindi) and Adbhutam. The last one in the series, Veeram, was released earlier this year. Bollywood actor Kunal Kapoor played the lead role in the film which was an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth based on the Northern ballads or Vadakkan pattukal of Malabar region.

In the upcoming movie Bhayanakam, the director will be exploring the emotion of fear and pain. Renji Panicker plays the role of a postman, who is a former soldier who had taken part in the First World War. Asha Sharath’s character Gowri Kunjamma’s two sons are also soldiers and are deployed at the Second World War’s battle front. The movie will explore their anxiety and fear during the war period.

Director Jayaraj in a recent interview has said that the movie offers great scope for performance for both Renji Panicker and Asha Sharath. Senior musicians Arjunan master and Sreekumaran Thampi will be collobarating for this movie.

As we had reported recently, Thala Ajith is collaborating with director Siva once again for an upcoming movie titled as Viswasam. It is his fourth film with the director after Veeram, Vedhalam and Vivegam. Pre-production works for this forthcoming film is currently progressing and the makers are busy finalizing the cast and crew members.

As per latest reports coming in from Kollywood medias, Anushka Shetty is in talks to play the female lead in Viswasam. If she signs the project, it will be her second film with Ajith after sharing screen space with him in Gautham Menon’s cop flick Yennai Arindhaal. Anushka is the top contender for the female lead’s role in Viswasam and she is expected to take a call very soon. The actress is currently awaiting the release of her multilingual movie Bhaagamathie.

Viswasam is said to be a rural mass film similar to the duo’s 2014 hit film Veeram. Reports suggest that Ajith will finally come out of his salt and pepper hairstyle, which he has been sporting for nearly six years now. Thala fans favorite composer Yuvan Shankar Raja is likely to handle the music department in this upcoming movie.

Sathya Jyothi Films, who funded Vivegam, is producing this upcoming venture as well. Shoot for the movie will be commencing in January and is slated for a grand Diwali release next year.

Sunny Leone, who was mostly confined to doing glitzy roles, recently decided that she will not be doing any glamour roles or item songs hereafter. The pretty actress who commands a huge fan following across the country has now signed her maiden South Indian project. Sunny will be seen as a warrior queen in an upcoming period flick to be directed by Telugu filmmaker VC Vadivudaiyan.

It is a VFX heavy project and the makers are planning it on a big canvas. Sunny wishes to be known as an actress of substance and looks like she is determined to go to any extent for that. As per the makers, she will be undergoing training in horse riding and sword fights for playing the warrior queen’s role. Veteran actor Nasser and Telugu actor Navadeep will also be seen in prominent roles in the movie.

Ponse Stephen is producing this big budget movie, which is slated to go on floors in January. The makers have roped in the technicians who have worked with 2.0 and Baahubali for the CG works. It is being planned as a trilingual in Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. The movie will be shot across Kerala, Chennai and Hyderabad.

Akshay Kumar is unarguably one of the biggest superstars in Indian cinema currently. The actor has some promising projects like 2.0 and Padman awaiting release, and if reports are to be believed he has committed for yet another biggie. Akshay is set to reunite with ace filmmaker AR Murugadoss for the remake of 2004 classic Hollywood flick Million Dollar Baby.

Million Dollar Baby directed by the legendary Clint Eastwood is a sports drama that is centered around an amateur woman boxer and her trainer. Clint, Hilary Swank and Morgan Freeman played the lead roles in the movie which went on to become a huge success worldwide. The movie won four Oscar Awards – best film, best director, best actress and best supporting actor – that year.

When Million Dollar Baby gets a Indian version, Akshay Kumar will be reprising Clint Eastwood’s role of the trainer and Marina Kumar will be playing the role of the amateur boxer, originally essayed by Hillary Swank. This is Akshay’s second film with AR Murugadoss after Holiday, which was the remake of the director’s own blockbuster Tamil movie Thuppakki. Other details regarding the title and when the project would commence has not yet been announced.

AR Murugadoss is currently busy with the pre-production works of his upcoming movie with Thalapathy Vijay, which is slated to go on floors by January. Akshay, meanwhile, is shooting for Reema Kagti’s Gold, the biopic of Balbir Singh Sr., who was on the team that won the first Olympic medal for India as a free nation in 1948. Padman directed by R Balki will be his next to hit screens. The movie is eyeing a Republic Day release in January.

The audio launch function of Sivakarthikeyan’s much awaited movie Velaikkaran was held last day in Chennai. The movie directed by Mohan Raja boasts of a stellar star cast which includes Malayalam actor Fahadh Faasil, Nayanthara, Sneha and Prakash Raj among others. While speaking at yesterday’s event, Sivakarthikeyan was all praise for his co-star Fahadh, whom he considers an extraordinary actor and a dear friend.

Sivakarthikeyan is quoted saying, “Fahadh Faasil is an international class actor, and I can openly, with no fear, say this anywhere. I’m learning a lot from his acting and acting opposite him was a big boost to my performance. We have become good friends now. It will be a very special role and a special film for him.”

Velaikkaran is Fahadh’s debut movie in Tamil. He is said to be playing a grey shaded role in the movie. He appears in a full length character and the actor has dubbed for himself in Tamil. He plays Aadhi, a unique role that has several shades to it. There are different layers to the relationship between the lead characters played by Fahahdh and Sivakarthikeyan. It begins as a friendship; there is also a guru-sishya element and it also has a clash of personalities.

Fahadh Faasil has already won quite a few fans among the cine buffs outside Kerala with his performance in films like Bangalore Days, Maheshinte Prathikaram, Take Off and with his latest release Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum. With Velaikaaran, he is certain to extend his popularity with the common audience of Tamil Nadu.

As per the makers, Velaikkaran is a socially relevant commercial entertainer dealing. While the director’s last release Thani Oruvan was about medical mafia, Velaikaaran will be about food adulteration and how a slum dweller fights against the corrupt system.

The movie also stars RJ Balaji, Robo Shankar, Rohini and Sathish in supporting roles. Music department is handled by young sensation Anirudh Ravichander. RD Raja’s 24 AM Studios is funding this movie which is slated to hit screens worldwide on December 22.

Dulquer Salmaan, easily the most popular Malayali actor outside Kerala, is slowly but steadily trying to gain a foothold in other industries. He is doing a couple of Tamil films next year along with making his entry to Hindi and Telugu industries. As per latest reports, the actor has bagged another huge project in Bollywood.

Dulquer will be playing one of the leads in a triangular love story to be directed by one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated filmmakers, Anurag Kashyap. Director/producer Anand L Rai is backing this film, which is reportedly titled as Manmarziyan.

The makers had already roped in Vicky Kaushal and Tapsee Pannu, and were on the look for the other character before getting Dulquer Salmaan on board. It is a triangular love story and is planned to go on floors in January. The movie has a winter setting and hence the makers have finalized Himachal Pradesh as the major location.

Anurag Kashyap is generally known for his gritty realistic films and this is his first attempt in making a love story. The director’s scores of fans across the country are much excited about him helming a romantic film.

Anand L Rai, who has scripted the movie, had initially announced the project with Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar in the lead with Sameer Sharma as the director. However, it was shelved halfway before reviving with Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari. Eventually, the project has reached Anurag Kashyap’s hands and, as expected, has taken everyone by surprise.

Meanwhile, Dulquer Salmaan is waiting for the release of his Hindi debut Karwaan, directed by Akash Khurana. The movie also stars Irrfan Khan and Mithila Palkar in lead roles. Shoot has already been completed and is expected to hit screens by mid 2018.

Kunjali Marakkar is one of the most talked about projects in recent times. August Cinema is funding this movie based on the life of Kunjali Marakkar and Mammootty is playing the titular role. Shankar Ramakrishnan is scripting this film after doing years of research works and Santhosh Sivan is helming it. The project is still in its early stages and is slated to go on floors sometime next year.

Santhosh Sivan, in a recent interview, has informed that the movie’s pre-production works are progressing at a rapid pace. Apparently, they are planning to make the movie on a never before-seen-scale. Since 70% of the film has to be shot mid sea, it has great prominence to the technical aspects. The makers are currently in talks with foreign technicians to associate with this highly ambitious project. Santhosh Sivan has assured that the movie would definitely meet the global standards in its technicalities like VFX and CG works.

Kunjali Marakkar was the title given to the naval chief in the 16th century, to protect the coast against the invading Portuguese army. There were four key Kunjali Marakkars during that era. Mammootty’s film is titled as Kunjali Marakkar IV, so, presumably it is based on the life of the fourth naval chieftain. It is said to be one of the most challenging characters in the megastar’s career and Malayali cinephiles are more than excited to watch him perform as the valiant warrior.

It is already known that Vijay is reuniting with ace filmmaker AR Murugadoss for his next film. Pre-production works for the movie is currently progressing and the technicians are being finalized. Malayali cinematographer Girish Gangadharan has already been confirmed for the movie.

The makers have now brought on board veteran Sreekar Prasad to handle the editing department. The 8 time National award winner has previously worked with AR Murugadoss in Thupakki and more recently in Spyder.

This upcoming movie marks Vijay’s third time collaboration with AR Murugadoss after Thuppakki and Kaththi, both of which were huge blockbusters. Vijay 62, as it is popularly called, is slated to go on floors by January end.

Sonakshi Sinha, Keerthy Suresh and Rakul Preet’s names are doing the rounds for the female lead, though an official announcement is yet to be made. Reportedly, Vijay will be sporting a new look for this upcoming movie. He is currently in the process of trying out new looks and stuff.

Reportedly, Sun Pictures and Lyca Productions will be jointly funding this film. An official announcement with details about the cast and crew members is expected to be made very soon.

Finally producers reveal the much awaited release date of 2.0!

If there is one film that the whole nation is eagerly waiting for, then it has to be 2.0, the much talked about sci-fi magnum opus directed by Shankar. With two of Indian cinema’s biggest superstars, Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar in the lead roles, the movie has tremendous expectations among the audience. Made on a lavish budget of around Rs 450 crores, it is said to be the most expensive Indian film ever.

A lot of speculations have been doing the rounds about its release date. The movie was initially slated to hit screens for the coming Republic day weekend in January but extensive post-production works has forced the makers to push the release date further. Following the strategy of SS Rajamouli’s historic hit Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, 2.0 is also set for a grand summer release.

Lyca Productions, the producers of 2.0, released a press statement last day informing that the movie will have a worldwide release in April. Though the exact date has not yet been announced, it is widely speculated that the makers are working towards an April 27 release.

Last year, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion had released on April 28 and went on to become a massive blockbuster ruling all summer. 2.0 is also expected to be repeat the same or even better the business of SS Rajamouli’s film. Since 2.0 has been postponed officially, Akshay Kumar’s Hindi film Padman will release in that slot in January.

The pending VFX and animatronic works of 2.0 are currently being handled by various organisations from more than 10 countries. Legacy Effects, Tau Films, Quantum FX, Double Negative and national award-winning VFX supervisor Srinivas Mohan are all involved in the post-production process.

Mohanlal’s Odiyan is arguably one of the most anticipated movies in South Indian cinema. Scripted by National award winner Harikrishnan, Odiyan marks the directorial debut of renowned ad filmmaker VA Shrikumar Menon. Mohanlal’s own production house Aashirvad Cinemas is funding this big budget venture.

Odiyan deals with an unique theme, which has rarely been experimented in Indian cinema. The movie is primarily about Odividya, a black magic practice, and people who practice it, who are called odiyans. There are a lot of stories and myths about odiyans and their life in Kerala’s folklore. Mohnalal plays the role of Odiyan Manikyan, the last living odiyan in the world.

Many among the audience believe Odiyan to be a dark horror-mood kind of film but director Shrikumar Menon clarifies that it is a proper mass entertainer that has class elements in it. In a recent interview to a leading English daily, director Shrikumar Menon is quoted saying, “One can call Odiyan a super-hero movie as Manickyan is a man with great athletic power.” As per the director, the movie has a pan-Indian appeal and they are planning to release it simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu as well.

Odiyan’s story is set in three different timelines starting from the pre-electricty days in the 1950s to 2000. Mohanlal’s Manikyan is a renowned odiyan who lived in the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border in Palakkad. The movie will follow his life from his childhood to his 60s. Mohanlal will be appearing in multiple looks in the movie.

Odiyan’s third schedule will commence on December 20. A leaner and fitter Mohanlal is expected to join the team soon. He will be playing the younger age of Manikyan in this schedule for which he needs to be in a good shape. The superstar is putting in the best of his efforts to shed the extra pounds. He is working with a team of 25 people who monitor his diet and workout.

Odiyan has some big names, both in the cast as well as the technical side. Veteran actor Prakash Raj and Manju Warrier will be seen in prominent roles in the movie. Narain, Kailash, Siddique and Innocent are also part of the supporting cast.

India’s leading stunt master Peter Hein is choreographing the action sequences. Pulimurugan’s cinematographer Shaji Kumar is wielding the camera and Sreekar Prasad is handling the edits. M Jayachandran is composing the songs and Sam CS of Vikram Vedha fame has been roped in to handle the background score.
