After Ranjith’s Puthan Panam, its B Unnikrishnan’s turn to make a movie based on demonetization!

Last year on the night of November 8, the whole of India was taken aback when Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation about the withdrawal of higher denomination notes. Demonetization of the 500 and 1000 rupee notes were implemented in a bid to curb the black money holders. Though the initial response from the public was good, slowly things started to worsen as shortage of money affected the day to day lives of the commoners. What followed was days of complete frenzy with people sweating it out in long queues before ATMs and banks to exchange their notes.

As demonetization turned one last day, the impact it has had on the public life is still a talking point. Since it is a socially relevant topic, filmmakers across the country have made films based on it. In Malayalam, director Ranjith’s Puthan Panam was the first to discuss this subject. The Mammootty starrer was released earlier this year amidst high expectations but failed at the box office.

Now according to latest reports, director B Unnikrishnan is planning to make a movie on demonetization with Suraj Venjaramoodu in the lead. Journalist turned scriptwriter Sajeev Pazhoor is penning this film. Sajeev is best known for Dileesh Pothan’s Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, which earned widespread acclaim.

The upcoming Suraj Venjaramoodu starrer is reported to be titled as Indiaye Kandethal. Unlike the director’s previous thriller films, this one is a more socially relevant one. Suraj, who of late has been getting good roles, has a lot of scope for performance in this movie. An official announcement with more details about the cast and when the movie will actually go on floors is expected to be made in the coming weeks.

As per latest reports, the duo is teaming up once again to play the lead roles in Boban Samuel’s upcoming movie. Titled as Vikatakumaran, the movie is scripted by YV Rajesh. Manasa Radhakrishnan, who made an impressive debut with Asif Ali’s last release Kaattu has been roped in to play the female lead.

Vikatakumaran’s technical team comprises of composer Rahul Raj, lyricist BK Harinarayanan, cinematographer Ajay David Kachappilly and editor Deepu. Shoot will be commencing soon after Vishnu Unnikrishnan finishes his portions for Sugeeth’s Shikkari Shambu, co-starring Kunchacko Boban.
