Fahadh Faasil and Sathyan Anthikad to team up once again!

Fahadh Faasil has a busy couple of years ahead of with a lot of exciting projects in the pipeline. The actor is currently busy with the final leg of shoot Carbon, directed by ace cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Venu. He has also finished working on the first schedule of Anwar Rasheed’s comeback movie Trance.

According to latest reports, Fahadh Faasil has committed for a Sathyan Anthikad movie. This will be his second outing with the veteran filmmaker after the 2013 hit film Oru Indian Pranayakatha. Reportedly, actor/screenwriter Sreenivasan is scripting this upcoming movie. The famous writer-director combo of Sathyan Anthikad and Sreenivasan are teaming up after a gap of 15 long years; their last film being Yathrakarude Sradhakku.

For the past couple of years, talks have been rife about the duo coming together for a Mohanlal film. But the makers couldn’t find the right script for Mohanlal and hence have temporarily shelved the idea. Sreenivasan has now developed a story which suits well for Fahadh and the young actor is all excited about being part of a Sathyan Anthikad-Sreenivasan film.

Reports suggest that the movie will go on floors only after Fahadh wraps up all his prior commitments. After the completion of Carbon, he is expected to join the sets of Anwar Rasheed’s Trance. In January, he will be working on Mani Ratnam’s next which also stars Vijay Sethupathi, Arvind Swamy, Simbu, Jyothika and Aishwarya Rajesh.

Fahadh is making his entry to Kollywood this year with Mohan Raja’s Velaikaaran, also starring Sivakarthikeyan, Nayanthara and Sneha. He is also playing one of the leads in National award winner Thyagarajan Kumararaja’s Super Deluxe, an anthology film. Vijay Sethupathy, Samantha, Nadiya Moidu and director Mysskin are also part of the cast. In Malayalam, he has signed for a rural entertainer with G Marthandan and debutant Vivek’s Aanengilum Allengilum, a rom-com entertainer co-starring Sunny Wayne.

Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu’s Syder was released last Wednesday (September 27) amidst humongous expectations. Since ace filmmaker AR Murugadoss was teaming up with Mahesh Babu, expectations were sky-high among the audience. This Tamil-Telugu billingual had SJ Suryah as the antagonist and Rakul Preet Singh as the female lead.

However, Spyder has opened to lukewarm response from the audience. The movie was met with mostly average to negative reviews which has clearly reflected on the box office earnings. In Kerala, the movie has had a disappointing run so far. Despite releasing in a good number of screens, the movie has managed to gross just Rs 1 crores from its first five days of theatrical run.

Spyder is a spy-thriller in which Mahesh Babu plays the role of a CCTV officer. He spies on the ones who need help by developing a software to listen to the needing ones by tracking their phone call. One such mission lands him face to face with a cold bloodes murderer played by SJ Suryah. The filmmaker-turned-actor has once again given a stunning perfomance.

Harris Jayaraj has handled the music department and Santhosh Sivan has cranked the camera. The movie is funded by NVR Cinema LLP. Although Spdyer has opened to good figures in the Telugu speaking states of Andhra Pradesh and Telengana, it still has a long way to reach the safe zone. Distributors and theatre owners have already started demanding compensation for their losses.

Pranav Mohanlal’s perfomance in action sequences will be the major highlight of Aadhi

Pranav Mohanlal’s debut film as a lead actor, Aadhi is eagerly awaited by the Malayali audience. Shoot for the move is currently progressing at a brisk pace in Hyderabad. This Jeethu Joseph directorial is tipped to be an action packed revenge thriller.

Pranav plays Aadhi, an aspiring musician in the movie. Aadhi is a typical urban youth who is into music and dance. At a particular point life takes a tumultuous turn and the rest of the events form the plot.

We had recently reported about a foreign stunt man choreographing the action blocks in Aadhi. Apparently, the movie has a lot of riveting chases and action sequences. Prior to the shoot, Pranav had undergone Parkour training in Bangkok for a few months as his character in the movie demands such traits.

Parkour is a form of acrobatic physical training that involves crossing obstacles by running, climbing, jumping, rolling and swinging. This technique has been featured in action scenes in many Hollywood movies like Casino Royale, Bourne Ultimatum, District 13 and Prince of Persia. Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff has done a six minute long Parkour sequence in his movie Heropanti.

Since Pranav used to do gymnastics, skydiving and rock climbing, he has a fluid and flexible body language that helps him to perfom the stunts authentically. Pranav is performing really well and reports suggest that the action scenes would be the major highlight of the movie.

Aadhi is said to be a movie which lies on similar lines to Jeethu Joseph’s superhit movie Memories. Anusree, Alamara fame Aditi Ravi, Lena, Siju Wilson, Krishna Shankar Sharafudheen, Tony Luke, Siddique and Nobi are part of the supporting cast. Anil Johnson is composing the music and Ayoob Khan is handling the edits in Aadhi.

Antony Perumbavoor is producing this movie under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas.

Dhanush-Tovino-Sai Pallavi trio’s Maari 2 planned as a big budget movie

We had recently reported about a sequel being made for Dhanush’s 2015 film Maari. Balaji Mohan, who helmed the first part, will be directing the sequel as well. Promising young Malayali actor Tovino Thomas is playing the antagonist and Premam fame Sai Pallavi has been roped in to play the female lead.

Singing Tovino as the villain was a great move by the makers as the actor enjoys good market in Kerala. The director had recently said that he enjoyed sketching Tovino’s villain character and assured that his combination scenes with Dhanush will be very interesting. The villain role in the first part, played by Vijay Yesudas, was the movie’s weakest link. So, the director has taken extra care this time to place a strong antagonist opposite the powerful Maari.

Eventhough Sai Pallavi is yet to make an appearance in Tamil cienma, the actress has a great fan following courtesy the success of her films like Premam and Fidaa. All these factors would certainly work in favour of Maari 2.

Maari is an action-comedy drama that had Dhanush playing the titular role. Despite releasing amid huge hype, the movie could emerge only as a mediocre success. Inspite of being an average grosser, Maari is having a sequel thanks to the hugely popularity of Dhanush’s character and Anirudh’s music, which was a rage among the youngsters. It is still not known if Anirudh will be composing for the sequel as well.

Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films will be producing Maari 2. The makers have informed that the movie will be made as a bilingual in Tamil and Telugu. Both the movies will be seperately shot and released simultaneously. The sequel is being planned to be made on a bigger scale than the first part with higher production values. With a star studded line up of actors, Maari 2 is expected to do some great business in the box office.

Actor/director Lal lavishes praise on Tovino’s Tharangam

Malayalam cinema has been witnessing a lot of experimental films over the last few years. Tovino Thomas’ Tharangam, which got released last Friday, is the latest entrant to that list. The movie has been getting good feedback by the critics for it’s out of the box theme and presentation. Many have praised the young team for their courageous attempt to try something new rather than the usual run-of-the-mill stuff.

Recently, veteran actor/director Lal heaped praise on Tharangam and congratulated the team behind it. His Facebook post reads,

“Tharangam is an exceptional film and completely stands out from the usual style of Malayalam movies we have seen till date. It’s unique, experimental and completely entertaining. And it’s a beautiful blend of fantasy, action, crime and comedy. Your family will surely have a wonderful time watching it. Congratulations to the debutant director for making a marvellous creation. Tharangam tharangamaavatte!”

Tharanagam is a crime-comedy with some interesting fantasy elements in it. Tovino, Balu Varghese and newbies Santhy Balachandran and Neha Iyer play the major roles. The movie has an elaborate supporting cast that includes seasoned actors like Manoj K Jayan, Vijayaraghavan, Saiju Kurup and several other newcomers.

Dircetor Dominic Arun has co-written the movie along with Anil Narayanan. Most of the technicians are newcomers. Deepak D Menon has cranked the camera and Aswhin Raju has composed the music. Actor Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films have jointly produced the movie along with Mini Studio.

Irrfan Khan is playing the male lead in this movie, touted to be a rom-com travel film. Parvathy is also awaiting the release of Roshni Dinaker’s My Story in which she is once again paired opposite Prithviraj.

Despite releasing in a tense atmosphere opposite Dileep’s Ramaleela, the Manju Warrier starrer has managed to do some good business.

The actress recently took to Facebook to express her heartfelt gratitude to the audience for accepting Udhaharanam Sujatha. She also took the occasion to remember all Sujathas of the society. The protagonist in this movie is actually a representative of the scores of women who work hard to look after their families.

Udhaharanam Sujatha, directed by debutant Phantom Praveen tells the story of Sujatha, a widow who has a 15-year-old daughter. She resides in a local colony and does odd jobs to raise her daughter. The movie showcases the struggles of a single mother in raising her teenage daughter.

Newcomer Anaswara, Mamta Mohandas, Nedumudi Venu, Alencier Ley Lopez, Sudhi Koppa and Joju George are also part of the cast. The movie is scripted jointly by Martin Prakkat and Anuraga Karikkin Vellam fame Naveen Bhaskar.

Senior cinematographer Madhu Neelakandan has cranked the camera and Mahesh Narayanan, who recently made his directorial debut with the widely acclaimed Take Off, is editing the movie. Gopi Sunder is handling the music department. Udhaharanam Sujatha is funded by The Scene, a new production house owned by noted actor Joju George and Martin Prakat.

Mohanlal’s Villain is arguably the most awaited Malayalam movie of the year. B Unnikrishnan is directing this movie x touted to be a crime thriller. Popular production house Rockline Films is making their entry to Mollywood by funding this big budget movie. It has a huge star cast which includes leading actors from other south Indian languages. All these factors have clearly heightened the expectation levels of the audience.

Recently, in an interaction with us, director B Unnikrishnan had informed that Villain will be hitting screens on October 27. We have now learnt that the movie will have a simultaneous release in Telugu as well. Mohanlal has a good market in the Telugu speaking states post the success of Janatha Garage. Besides Mohanlal, Villain also has the presence of big stars like Vishal, Hansika and Srikanth who can pull non-Keralites to the theatres. This is a great move by the makers which will certainly boost the box office earnings. In Kerala, the makers are planning to release it in a whopping 300+ centres. So, a massive opening is definitely on cards for Villain.

Villain has Mohanlal playing the role of a police officer. He will be appearing in two different looks; one during his days as a policeman and the other post his retirement. Manju Warrier plays his wife’s role in the movie. Siddique, Aju Varghese, Chemban Vinod Jose and Renji Panicker are also part of the supporting cast.

Cinematography is handled by Manoj Paramahamsa and NK Ekambaram. Oppam fame 4 Musics have composed the songs while background score is done by Ezra fame Sushin Shyam. Shameer Mohammed of Charlie and Angamaly Diaries fame is in charge of the edits.

Tovino Thomas starrer Tharangam continues to get response from the audience. The movie directed by debutant Dominic Arun has opened to largely positive reviews with critics praising the team for their courageous attempt to make an experimental film. The word of mouth is also positive in social medias which has had a good influence in pulling more audience to the theatres.

Tharangam is the first Malayalam production of actor Dhanush’s banner, Wunderbar Films. The actor took to his Facebook page to express his gratitude to the audience and the media for the overwhelming response. His post reads,

We had earlier reported about Mollywood’s leading production house E4 Entertainment bagging the Tamil remake rights of superhit Telugu movie Arjun Reddy. Now, the big news coming in is that Vikram’s son Dhruv will be making his acting debut by playing the lead role in the Tamil remake. Earlier, there were speculations about Dhruv’s entry to the industry but this is now a really huge launchpad for the youngster.

Arjun Reddy, released this earlier emerged as a sensational success across South India. The movie directed by debutant Sandeep Reddy Vanga was widely acclaimed by the critics as well as the commoners. Bollywood star Ranveer Singh has also been approached for the Hindi remake while Yash is said to be playing the lead in the Kannada version.

Arjun Reddy starring Vijay Deverakonda in the titular role tells the story of a medical surgeon who falls madly in love with his college junior. Arjun becomes alcoholic post break-up and the rest of the story is about how he redeems himself. Let’s see how Dhruv plays this challenging role.
