Vikram Prabhu and Dulquer Salmaan have plans to act together

Being a superstar’s son, Dulquer Salmaan has had close friendship with several other celebrity kids like Pranav Mohanlal and Fahadh Faasil. But his companionship with Tamil actor Vikram Prabhu, veteran Prabhu’s son, was not through their fathers. They both hit it off when they were together at an acting school in Mumbai.

Ever since then, the duo have been very close to each other. They have been spotted together in several functions and parties. In a recent interview, Dulquer spilled beans about their ideas to act together when the right story comes by. It will be very interesting to see two great friends coming together on screen. Recently, Vikram Prabhu was there at Dulquer’s home for the Ifthar lunch and the latter’s birthday also. They are now good family friends and Dulquer revealed that their wives are close, too.

On the work front, Dulquer is going through a great phase and some has some highly exciting projects in his kitty. His next release is Solo, the much awaited Tamil-Malayalam bilingual directed by Bejoy Nambiar. This year, he is also foraying into Hindi and Telugu with Karwaan and Mahanti, respectively.

On the other hand, Vikram Prabhu’s last response Nerupp da was met with average response at the box office. He is currently working on debutant SS Surya’s Pakka, a mass masala entertainer. Let’s hope the right project comes by very soon so that we get to see Dulquer and Vikram Prabhu together on screen.

Kerala Box Office: Ramaleela 3 Days Collection Report

Dileep’s Ramaleela has opened to stupendous response at the box office. The movie released on September 28 overcoming all sorts of hurdles that followed after the actor’s arrest. But the massive response in theatres underlines the fact that cinema always lies above individuals. Several theatres across the state are running late night special shows due to the huge crowd, which also includes the family audience.

According to collection reports from our trade sources, Ramaleela has grossed a whopping Rs 7.70 crores from its first three days of theatrical run in Kerala alone. This is a phenomenal opening considering the issues amidst which the movie has been released.

Industry insiders and trade pundits believe that Ramaleela has the potential to emerge one of the top three highest grossers in Malayalam cinema. Directors like Vineeth Sreenivasan, Vysakh, Boban Samuel, Lal Jose, Ranjith Sankar, Marthandan etc have heaped praise on the movie.

Ramaleela, directed by debutant Arun Gopy is a political thriller. Sachi has scripted this movie which features Dileep as Ramanunni, a public representative. Prayaga Martin has played the female lead while actors like Raadhika Sarathkumar, Mukesh, Viayaraghavan, Kalabhavan Shajon and Suresh Krishna are also part of the supporting cast.

Shaji Kumar has cranked the camera and Vivek Harshan has edited the movie. Gopi Sunder has handled the music department. This big budget movie is funded by Tomichan Mulakupadam’s Mulakupadam Films.

Kamal Haasan to start shooting for Indian 2 only after finishing Vishwaroopam 2 and Sabash Naidu

After a lot of speculations, Kamal Haasan finally made the official announcement of Indian 2 on the Big Boss finale stage last day. He will be teaming up with ace filmmaker Shankar for the sequel of their classic film Indian, released back in 1996. Dil Raju of the famous Sri Venkateswara Creations will be funding this highly ambitious project.

Ever since the announcement was made, there are talks about the future of some of Kamal’s already committed films like Vishwaroopam 2 and Sabash Naidu. Both the movies have been shelved for certain unknown reasons for sometime now. Kamal himself is directing both these movies but he left them halfway to concentrate on his small screen stint, where he was hosting the Big Boss show.

But the good news for fans is that Kamal will be moving to Indian 2 only after wrapping up the remaining works of Vishwaroopam 2 and Sabash Naidu. Kamal’s spokesperson is quoted saying “Shankar had a meeting with Kamal a few days ago. The film is likely to take off only after Shankar wraps up 2.0 and Kamal completes his Sabash Naidu and Naidu and Vishwaroopam 2.”

Shankar, meanwhile is also busy with the post-production works of his magnum opus 2.0 starring Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar in the lead roles. The movie is slated to release for January next year. Reportedly, the director will start working on the pre-production of Indian 2 from February. It is being planned as a Tamil-Telugu bilingual and will also be dubbed and released in all major Indian languages.

Unni Mukundan, one of the busiest among the younger generation of Malayali actors is trying to gain a foothold in the Telugu film industry. The actor made his debut in Tollywood last year by playing the antagonist the blockbuster movie Janatha Garage. He will be next seen in Bhagmati alongside Anushka Shetty, who is now a nationwide star after the phenomenal success of Baahubali.

Unni Mukundan in a recent interview opened up about his wish to act in a Hindi film. Now that he has established himself in Telugu by being a part of a couple of big ticket films, the actor wishes to act in a commercial Bollywood movie. Since he was brought up in Gujarat, Unni is also well versed in Hindi. His good looks, well built physique and his ability to dance and do stunts makes him a perfect Bollywood material. The actor is hopeful of getting an opportunity to work in a Hindi film very soon.

His next release will be Masterpiece starring Megastar Mammootty in the lead. Unni reportedly plays a police officer in this mass entertainer directed by Ajai Vasudev of Rajadhiraja fame. His Telugu movie Bhagmati is also gearing up for release.

The movie directed by G Ashok is a big budget comic horror thriller. Anushka Shetty plays the central character while Unni Mukundan plays a prominent role as a social activist. Apart from Unni Mukundan, other Malayali actors like Jayaram and Asha Sarath are also part of the cast. The movie is also being dubbed in Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil languages.

Nivin Pauly’s Kayamkulam Kochunni goes on floors

Director Rosshan Andrewss’ ambitious project Kayamkulam Kochunni starring Nivin Pauly in the titular role has gone on floors. After months of research and pre-production works, shoot for the movie commenced last day with a customary switch on ceremony. Nivin Pauly, Roshan Andrews, producer Gokulam Gopalan, Anto Joseph, Sunny Wayne, Babu Antony and other crew members were also present for the switch on function.

Kayamkulam Kochunni is based on the life of the legendary theif, popularly known as ‘India’s Robinhood’. The National award winning duo of Bobby and Sanjay have scripted this movie after doing extensive research for nearly two years with the help of history students.

Nivin Pauly has been working hard to get in good shape to play the role of Kochunni. The actor has already shed a few extra kilos that he had gained during Action Hero Biju time. Besides that he is also undergoing training in Kalaripayattu and horse riding. Amala Paul plays the female lead in the movie while Kannada actress Priyanka Thimmesh will also be seen in a key role.

Sunny Wayne is reportedly playing the role of a policeman in the movie. Some shooting spot stills of him wearing a khaki uniform are seen doing the rounds in social medias. Veteran actor Babu Antony is playing the crucial role of Thangal, who Kochunni looked up to as his mentor.

The technical team of Kayamkulam Kochunni also boasts of some big names like Bollywood cinematographer Binod Pradhan, National award winning sound designer PM Satheesh and Firefly Creative Studio, who handled the VFX in films like Baahubali and Enthiran. Gokulam Gopalan is funding this big budget movie under the banner of Sri Gokulam Films.

Godha director Basil Joseph is all praise for Tovino’s Tharangam

Malayalam cinema has been witnessing a lot of experimental films over the last couple of years. Tovino Thomas starrer Tharangam is the latest entrant to that list. The movie was released on Friday and opened to good reports from both the critics and the common audience. Critics have lauded the young team for their courageous attempt to try something new rather than the usual run-of-the-mill stuff.

Now director Basil Joseph, noted for his films like Godha and Kunjiramayanam, has lavished praise on Tharangam and the team behind it. His Facebook post reads,

“Tharangam is definitely a good dark comedy movie , with some neat performances from the cast and great effort from a group of young technicians. Tovino , Balu , and a couple of new actors definitely deserves an appreciation for carrying those innocently idiotic characters throughout the movie creating some good moments to laugh. Dominic Arun made a gutsy but good debut with an experimental screenplay and narrative, well supported by a brilliant technical team. Congrats team Tharangam and all the best for a good theatrical run.”

Tharanagam is a crime-comedy that also has fantasy elements in it. Tovino, Balu Varghese and newbies Santhy Balachandran and Neha Iyer play the major roles. The movie has an elaborate supporting cast that includes seasoned actors like Manoj K Jayan, Vijayaraghavan, Saiju Kurup and several other newcomers.

Dircetor Dominic Arun has co-written the movie along with Anil Narayanan. Most of the technicians are newcomers. Deepak D Menon has cranked the camera while Aswhin Raju has composed the music. Actor Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films have jointly produced the movie along with Mini Studio.

Mohanlal’s Villain is easily the most awaited Malayalam movie of the year. Director B Unnikrishnan is teaming up with the superstar for the fourth time, this time with a star studded cast. The involvement of a huge banner like Rockline Films and the sheer scale at which it is being made has enhanced the expectation levels of the audience.

Recently, the director took to his Facebook page to inform that the movie will hit screens by the end of October. He did not reveal the exact release date as the censoring is yet to be completed. However, the director in a recent interaction with Onlookers Media has informed that the movie will be releasing on October 27. The makers will be trying to release it in a huge number of screens as a massive opening is garaunteed for the movie.

Villain is an intense crime thriller in which Mohanlal plays the role of a police officer. He will be appearing in two different looks; one during his days as a policeman and the other post his retirement. Manju Warrier plays his wife’s role in the movie. Popular south Indian actors Vishal, Hansika Motwani, Srikanth and Raashi Khanna are making their Mollywood debut with Villain. Siddique, Aju Varghese, Chemban Vinod Jose and Renji Panicker are also part of the supporting cast.

Cinematography is handled by Manoj Paramahamsa and NK Ekambaram. Oppam fame 4 Musics have composed the songs while background score is done by Ezra fame Sushin Shyam. Shameer Mohammed of Charlie and Angamaly Diaries fame is in charge of the edits.

Villain marks the first production venture of the famous banner Rockline Films in Malayalam. It will be distributed by Rockline Entertainments through Maxlab.

Kerala Box Office: Parava Collection Report 8 Days

Parava continues to do great business across all the release centres. The extremely positive word of mouth is attracting audience to the theatres in large numbers. The movie was released last Thursday (September 21) and took a stellar opening in the Kerala box office.

According to latest collection reports from our trade sources, the movie has grossed Rs 12.20 crores from its 8 days theatrical run in Kerala. This is a very good figure which is only expected to soar upwards during the coming weeks.

Parava marks the directorial debut of Soubin Shahir. The movie tells the story of two adolescent boys who rear pigeons for racing, which is commonly practiced in the Mattanchery regions in Kochi. It has a big star cast which includes a host of newcomers and veterans as well.

Parava stars teenagers Amal Shah and Govind V Pai as the protagonists. Kismath fame Shane Nigam, Harisree Ashokan’s son Arjun Ashokan, late actor Sainudeen’s son Zinil Sainudeen, Siddique, Aashiq Abu, Indrans, Jacob Gregory and Srinda Arhaan form the supporting cast. Young sensation Dulquer Salmaan is also there in an extended cameo role.

Parava is jointly scripted by Soubin Shahir and Muneer Ali. Cinematography is done by Littil Swayamp, noted for his works in the popular music band Thaikkudam Bridge’s Navarasa series. Rex Vijayan is handling the music department.

Filmmaker Anwar Rasheed and Shyju Unni have jointly produced this movie under the banner of Anwar Rasheed Entertainments. With the Pooja holidays and good WOM, Parava is expected to continue its successful theatrical run.

Vikram had recently finished shooting for his Gautham Menon movie Dhruva Natchathiram. The actor has now joined the sets of Saamy 2 in Chennai. The movie went on floors today with a customary pooja ceremony. Director Hari, who helmed the first part, is directing this sequel as well.

Vikram will be reprising his character Aarusaaamy, the honest and tough cop, from his 2003 superhit movie Saamy. Trisha, who played the female lead in the first part has also been retained for the sequel. Keerthy Suresh will also be playing a major role in Saamy 2.

National award winner Bobby Simha has been roped in to play the antagonist’s role. As per the director, Bobby Simha’s villain role will be a very intense one which will be as competitive as Vikram’s. Their combination scenes will be the movie’s major highlight. Prabhu, Delhi Ganesh, John Vijay, Soori and Imman Annachi are also part of the supporting cast.

Priyan will be handling the cinematography and Devi Sri Prasad is in charge of the music department. Just like Hari’s previous films, this one will also have a tight schedule and the team is planning to wrap it up by January.

Shoot has been planned in locations all across the country like Tirunelveli, Chennai, Kerala, Delhi, Noida, Agra, Jaipur, Nainital and Nepal. The team will be heading to Missouri and a few foreign countries to shoot the songs. Shibu Thameens, who previously produced Vikram’s Irumugan, will be funding this movie under the banner of Thameens Films.

Tharangam gets applause for its unique style of treatment

Tovino Thomas starrer Tharangam was last day (September 29) in centres all across Kerala. The movie directed by debutant Dominic Arun has opened to mixed to positive reviews. Critics have rated it as experimental film that is worth a watch for the cinephiles.

Social media users have also appreciated the team’s brave decision to make such an experimental film. The perfomances of the lead cast and the variety in treatment have been found many admirers. Another major attraction of Tharangam is the involvement of Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films. It is the first Malayalam movie to be produced by this popular banner.

The core plot of Tharangam is centred around two policemen – Padmanabhan (Tovino) and Joy (Balu Varghese). These two naïve policemen take part in an unauthorized mission, upon the instruction of their superior, to track down a gang of smugglers. Unfortunately, a policer officer gets killed which results in the suspension of Pappan and Joy from the force. Rest of the story evolves as they get involved in a series of events which finally lands them in a chaotic culmination.

The movie has several charcaters who are somehow connected to the lead actors. It is a full on fun entertainer with a lot of interesting turnarounds. Tharangam also has a tinge of fanatsy, which the makers have tried to present in a very unqiue way. The technical team of composer Ashwin Renju, cinematographer Deepak D Menon and editor Sreenath were all good in their respective departments and give a fresh feel to the movie.

Director Dominic Arun has jointly scripted it along with Anil Narayanan. The movie stars Manoj K Jayan, Dileesh Pothan, Vijayaraghavan, Alencier Ley, Saiju Kurup, Sijoy Varghese and Shammi Thilakan in supporting roles. Around 30 newcomers are also part of the cast.
