Tovino Thomas is all excited to play the villain opposite Dhansuh in Maari 2

Recently, Dhanush took everyone by surprise by announcing promising Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas as the villain in Maari 2. The announcement was least expected as Tovino alreay has a handful of projects in his kitty. He is foraying into Kollywood this year with Abiyum Anuvum, a Tamil-Malayalam bilingual directed by BR Vijayalakshmi.

Tovino is thrilled about playing the villain opposite a big star like Dhanush. Although the actor has earlier played negative roles in films like ABCD and Style, this will be his first such role after establishing himself as a bankable actor. The actor is now riding on the back of a string of successful films like Ezra, Oru Mexican Aparatha and Godha.

Maari, directed by Balaji Mohan was released in 2015. The action-comedy drama had Dhanush playing the titular role. Despite releasing amid huge hype, the movie could emerge only as a mediocre success. It is not common for an average grosser to have a sequel but Maari, the character, and Anirudh’s music was a rage among the youngsters, which has inspired the makers for a sequel.

Director Balaji Mohan has said that be enjoyed sketching Tovino’s villain character, which according to him is a very interesting one. The villain role in the first part, played by Vijay Yesudas, was the movie’s weakest link. So apparently, the director has taken extra care this time to place a strong antagonist opposite the powerful Maari.

This is Tovino’s third time association with Dhanush. The latter is producing two of Tovino’s upcoming movies – Tharangam and Maradona – under his banner Wunderbar Studios. The same banner is also producing Maari 2.

Rajinikanth-Akshay Kumar starrer 2.0 to break Dangal’s record!

2.0, the much awiated sequel to Rajinikanth’s 2010 blockbuster Enthiran, is currently in the post production phase. The movie, directed by Shankar also marks the South Indian debut of Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar. British beauty Amy Jackson is playing the female lead in this sci-fi thriller. Lyca Productions is investing a mammoth budget of Rs 450 crores, which is the highest for any Indian film currently under production.

The makers are planning to release the movie in several languages including Chinese. Trade anlayst Ramesh Bala tweeted that the Chinese dubbed version will be releasing in around 10,000-15,000 screens in China alone. This is a phenomenal achievement and a major share of the credit for that should go to Aamir Khan’s Dangal.

The wrestling drama, released earlier this year in China, took the Chinese box office by storm. The movie earned over Rs 1000 crores from the country and stands among the all-time highest grossers in China. The whopping success of Dangal has clearly inspired the makers of 2.0 to release their movie in such a massive scale. 2.0 has already broken Dangal’s record of being the biggest release for an Indian film in China, as the Aamir Khan film was released in only 9000 odd screens.

There is a massive pre-release hype for 2.0. As per reports, the theatre distribution rights of 2.0’s Hindi was sold to a whopping Rs 80 crores. The satellite rights of 2.0 were sold for Rs 110 crore to Zee Television for 15 years time. The makers are also in talks with Amazon Prime and Netflix for the film’s digital rights.

Recently, it was announced that the movie’s audio lauch will be held on October 27 in Dubai. It will be a grand affair with composer AR Rahman’s life performance. The teaser will be released in November and trailer in December.

Shankar has written the movie along with noted writer Jeyamohan. Adil Hussain, Sudhanshu Pandey, Malayali actor Kalabhavan Shajon and Riyaz Khan are also part of the cast. Many internationally acclaimed technicians are involved in the technical side of the movie. It is scheduled to hit screens worldwide in January next year.
