I will act in Mammookka’s film even if it’s for a side role: Unni Mukundan

Unni Mukundan is a self confessed fan of Megastar Mammootty. He has worked with a superstar previously and is also playing a pivotal role in Mammootty’s upcoming film Masterpiece directed by Ajai Vasudev of Rajadhiraja fame. In a recent chat show, Unni Mukundan opened up about his admiration for the superstar.

“I am a big fan of Mammookka. He is someone who has always supported me. I am willing to play any role in his film, even if it’s a side role that appears for a single shot.”

Unni Mukundan has done full fledged roles alongside Mammootty in two films- Bombay March 12 and Fireman. Besides that, he has also played a guest role in Rajadhiraja. In the upcoming movie Masterpiece, Unni Mukundan is playing the role of a police officer. The movie, written by Udhayakrishna is a campus thriller in which Mammootty is essaying the role of Edward Livingston aka Eddy, an English professor.

We had also reported about Unni Mukundan’s interest in direction. He will be assisting scenarist Sethu in his debut directorial Kozhithankachan, which stars Mammootty in the lead role. Sethu, earlier in an interview, said that Mammootty was concerned about Unni’s acting commitments if he is working as an assistant director but the young actor was ready to adjust his dates in order to work in Mammootty’s movie.

It’s fortunate to have an actor like Fahadh Faasil : Dileesh Pothan

It’s fortunate to have an actor like Fahadh Faasil : Dileesh Pothan

Dileesh Pothan is a favourite among the Malayali cine buffs after he made an extraordinary debut with Maheshinte Prathikaram. The movie was much raved about and was a huge success both critically and commercially. The director had a fantastic lead actor in Fahadh Faasil to breathe life into his vision. Fahadh with his remarkable ability to get into the skin of any character turned Mahesh Bhavana a memorable character.

It’s no wonder Dileesh Pothan once again chose to work with Fahadh for his second film Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum. The movie, released last Firday, has been getting outstanding reports from all the release centres with unanimously positive reviews from the critics.

Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum is in stark contrast to Maheshinte Prathikaram, which was more of a light-hearted entertainer. Dileesh Pothan’s second directorial is a social drama that has a tinge of satirical element and his trademark realistic tone. The movie written by Sajeev Pazhoor has a simple story that revolves around three main characters. It is centred around a newly married couple who encounter a thief during a bus journey. They are taken to a police station and rest of the events are set in the police station and it’s premises.

Suraj Venjaramoodu and debutante Nimisha Sajayan have played the roles of the newly weds. Fahadh has essayed the role of a thief, a very mysterious character whose nature is hard to comprehend. Fahadh has given a terrific performance while portraying this not-so-easy-to-perform role and it is a testimony to the kind of range he possesses.

In a recent interview, director Dileesh Pothan said that he is very fortunate to get an actor like Fahadh Faasil. He is quoted saying, “A director is fortunate if he gets an actor who knows exactly what is needed. Such a mutual relationship is good for the film. More than that, Fahadh is an actor who can be moulded to any extent to extract what we require.”

Fahadh Faasil’s performance is the talking point of the movie. His expressions, body language and some of his mannerisms are highly impressive and due appreciation is flowing in for the actor from all corners. It won’t be a big surprise if he sweeps all the major awards this year.

According to reports from our trade sources, Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum has grossed Rs 1.51 crores from the opening day in the Kerala box office. The figures will only go up in the coming days as positive word of mouth is spreading like wild fire.

Shyamaprasad and Anoop Menon to team up after 16 years

Anoop Menon has been very choosy with his films of late. He is taking up films in which he has a solid character and offers him a scope for performance. He has recently signed for ace filmmaker Shyamaprasad’s upcoming movie. Anoop Menon will be playing the protagonist’s role in this yet to be titled film.

Anoop Menon and Shyamaprasad’s friendship dates back to 2001. He started his acting career by playing a part in Shyamaprasad’s teleserial Manalnagaram. After the tele-serial the two remained friends and the director regularly encouraged him by saying how his performances have improved over the time. But the duo never got an opportunity to work together. Last year, Shyamaprasad played a cameo role in the Anoop Menon starrer Karinkunnam 6’s, directed by Deepu Karunakaran.

In a recent interview, Anoop Menon said that his upcoming movie with Shyamaprasad is probably the most challenging project in the veteran filmmaker’s career. The movie is expected to go on floors by October this year.

Shyamaprasad also has another project lined up this year titled Hey Jude, which has Nivin Pauly and Trisha in the lead. The latter will be making her Malayalam debut with this film. Eventhough, the project was announced few months back, there are no further updates about it. Reportedly, the movie will be a breezy romantic entertainer shot across Mangalore and Kochi.
