The Mahabharata makers have no plans to change title

The Mahabharata makers have no plans to change title

The Mahabharata, which is touted to be the most expensive movie in Indian cinema was recently in the news after a pro-Hindu group threatened that they would not allow the movie’s release unless they change the title.

However, the makers of The Mahabharata are in no mood to change the title as the movie is being planned be released in multiple languages. Only a title like Mahabharata will make sense to the global audience and hence they are sticking to the same title.

The controversy was kick-started by Hindu Aikya Vedi chairperson KP Sasikala. In a recent addressing, she stated that the movie should be titled as Randamoozham, the novel on which the movie is based on, and not Mahabharata.

Randamoozham, written by Jnanipath award winner MT Vasudevan Nair, is based on the Hindu epic Mahabharatha. It is told from the perspective of Bheeman.

According to Sasikala, the novel is a distortion of the writings in the real Mahabharatha and hence it’s movie adaptation should not be titled as The Mahabharata. She emphasized that Mahabaratha is closely knit to religious beliefs and hence a novel that distorted the history and beliefs would not be allowed to release with this title. She warned that if the makers did not change its name, then the Kerala Hindu Aikya Vedi would not allow its screening.

This statement from her paved way to a lot of criticisms with several people including opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala accusing Sasikala for trying to force religion into cinema.

The Mahabharata will be directed by renowned ad filmmaker VA Shrikumar. His team is currently working on the pre-production for this mammoth project. UAE based Indian businessman Dr BR Shetty is investing Rs 1000 crores for this epic project.

Mohanlal has already been confirmed to play the central character of Bheema in this movie. The makers had informed that several leading actors from other industries will be part of this movie. Telugu superstar Nagarjuna has been approached to play the role of Karnan. Some big names from Indian and world cinema will be associated with this project. The Mahabharata will go on floors by September next year and will hit screens in 2020.

Shruti Haasan reveals that she opted out of Sangamithra on her own choice

Shruti Haasan reveals that she opted out of Sangamithra on her own choice

Last day we had reported that actress Shruti Haasan will not be a part of the upcoming magnum opus Sangamithra. It was announced officially by the makers Thenandal Studios Limited through his social media page.

This lead to lot of speculations and theories about Shruthi pulling out at the last minute. Finally, the actress has come out with a statement through her spokesperson. According to that, Shruthi had already started preparations for her role in the movie but had to opt out as the makers did not get her a proper full bound script and date calendar.

Sangamithra, written and directed by Sundar C is a periodic film in which Shruti was supposed to play the the titular role. Jayam Ravi and Arya are playing the male leads in the movie.

Sangamithra was launched last week at the Cannes Film Festival. The first look posters were also unveiled during the launch event. The whole crew of Sangamithra including Shruti Haasan, Jayam Ravi, Arya, music composer AR Rahman and production designer Sabu Cyril were present at Cannes.

Here’s the statement Shruti Haasan’s spokesperson,

“Shruti has had to, unfortunately, take a call not to be a part of Sangamithra. Knowing it was a massive undertaking and a long commitment spanning over 2 years, she knew the importance of her training, a comprehensive script and a proper date calendar. She hired and started training with one of the best combat trainers from April onwards to make sure she was ready in time for the shoot.”

Apparently, the actress was unhappy with the makers not providing her with a full bound script. She was also not given a detailing about the dates that was to be allotted for the filming.

“Despite her enthusiasm and commitment to Sangamithra, she has had to give the film a miss since she had not received a proper bound script nor a proper date calendar. She is currently caught up with promoting her film Behen Hogi Teri, prep for Sabash Naidu and her musical associations.”

Sangamithra is said to be made on a whopping budget of Rs 250 crores. It is a period drama set in the 8th century AD. Jayam Ravi and Arya have been undergoing rigorous training in horse riding, physical combat and other weapon-based martial arts training. The movie is expected to go on floors by August this year.

“I’ve never disrespected Mammootty”, says MB Padmakumar while bidding adieu to Facebook

“I’ve never disrespected Mammootty”, says MB Padmakumar while bidding adieu to Facebook

Actor/director MB Padmakumar has decided to quit Facebook. He said that during a live interaction with his followers. For the past few months, Padmakumar’s posts have been very controversial. In the live video he said that he has not tried to deliberately tarnish anyone but still is quitting Facebook as he cannot take the flak anymore.

In the video he is heard saying, “I had written a post about Mammootty sir but never intended to disrespect him. It was Mammootty who gave me a chance in a movie. I admire him a lot. Once Lohithadas sir had told me to watch Mammootty’s movies so that I can learn many new things. He told me not to watch with the visual but with the audio. Beacuse for an actor voice is more important that visual. One can observe that from Mammootty.”

Earlier, Padmakumar had written a controversial post about Mammootty which he later deleted. In the post, MB Padmakumar had written that he hates Mammootty for being part of too many commercial masala movies.

He was of opinion that Mammootty is trying to do all sorts of gimmicky to forcibly stop his age and as a result he is wasting his karma to try and elevate Malayalam cinema to an international platform. Padmakumar urged that the Mammootty seen in the times of Ponthan Mada, Vidheyan and Thaniyavarthanam should return back. He should do away with the current trend of doing upper class Malayali roles and return back to his good old days atleast occasionally.

Padmakumar has acted in several movies and television serials. His directorial debut My Life Partner finished second best in the 45th Kerala State Film Awards, and also won him the award for Best Lead Actor.

Many stars are intimidated about working with me : Nithya Menen

Nithya Menen is one of the very few actors in the South who enjoys a fan base in all the four industries. She has established herself as one of the leading actress by being part of both critically and commercially acclaimed movies.

Nithya Menen has this image of a thinking actress who most often that not commits movies based on the significance of her character and not the star or the banner name. She herself admits that this image of her has affected her career a bit but she has no complaints on that.

Recently in an interview to Times Of India, the actress said revealed about how some stars feel intimidated to act with her. The actress is quoted saying,

It’s not just about my personality but also because of the way I work. I have always been shocked by this. Stars have told me that they have discussed among themselves and said “It’s a bit intimidating that she’s joining the project”. I can’t believe it happens but it does. And it does affect your career in a certain way.

Nithya has been absent from the Malayalam industry for sometime now. When asked whether she is busy in other industries or reluctant to sign Malayalam films, she said, “I am not too busy, neither have I become a big star. It’s just that I go with projects where I know my work environment will be easier and I won’t struggle. At the end of the day, being happy is important for me. I want my life to be comfortable. I want to have nice people around – those who respect me and don’t give me too much trouble. Also, I don’t want to stick to a particular language. I just go with the flow.

Nithya Menen was last seen in Malayalam in the 2015 romantic entertainer 100 Days Of Love alongside Dulquer Salmaan. The movie was directed by veteran filmmaker Kamal’s son Jenuse Mohamed. Recently, there were reports about the director planning to make a movie with Prithviraj and Nithya, but there is still no official word about it.
