SS Rajamouli’s action epic drama Baahubali continues to mint big bucks at the box office all over the world. Apart from the massive scale and CGI works, one of the major highlights of the movie was the beautiful chemistry between Amarendra Baahubali and Devasena, played by Prabhas and Anushka Shetty.

After the success of Baahubali, the duo have now become one of the favorite on-screen pairs. Their photos from shooting spots and various other events have been going viral on the internet.

If reports are to be believed, Anushka and Prabhas will be reuniting once again for the upcoming movie Saaho. Earlier, there were reports about the makers approaching Bollywood diva Katrina Kaif to pair with Prabhas, but it turned out to false.

Now it is reported that the makers of Saaho are planning to reunite the Baahubali couple once again. The teaser of Saaho was released to phenomenal response from the audience across the country.

Saaho, directed by Sujeeth is an ambitious big budget movie. The visual effects in the teaser were of superior quality. It is said to be a sci-fi thriller. Vamsi Krishna Reddy and Pramod Uppalapati are producing this film.

Famed trio of Shankar Ehsaan Loy is handling the music department while renowned cinematographer R Madhie will be cranking the camera. International stuntman Kenny Bates, popular for his work in Hollywood films like Die Hard and Transformers will be choreographing the stunts in Saaho.

The movie will be released in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam languages simultaneously in 2018.

The whole country is caught by the Baahubali fever. The sequel in the Baahubali franchise is raking in huge numbers at the box office. It is currently the highest grossing Indian movie ever registering more than Rs 1500 crores at the box office.

Amidst it’s record shattering spree, Baahubali has become the first Indian film to make a new mark on the world stage. It is the first Indian film to have its character based ‘Stickers’ on Facebook.

No other Indian movie has ever had stickers and emoticons based on its characters on the world’s biggest social media platform, Facebook. Hollywood films like Spiderman, Avengers, Batman, Hulk and many other super hero movies have Facebook stickers.

Amarendra Baahubali, Mahendra Baahubali, Kattappa, Rajamatha Sivagami, Kalakeya, Kattappa and Bijjaladeva feature in the stickers. Notable absence from the franchise is that of Tamannaah’s Avantika and Anushka’s Devasena.

Meanwhile, Baahubali 2 is unstoppable at the box office. The movie is continuing it’s blockbuster run both in the domestic and the overseas box office. In countries like UK and US, the movie has grossed higher than most Hollywood films.

Mammootty teams up with yet another debutant director

Mammootty is arguably the only superstar in South who has launched so many directors to the film industry. Most famous among them are Lal Jose (Oru Maruvathoor Kanavu), Amal Neerad (Big B), Anwar Rasheed (Rajamanikyam), Aashiq Abu (Daddy Cool), Nithin Renji Panicker (Kasaba) and more recently Haneef Adeni (The Great Father).

The latest news is that he is teaming up with yet another debutant for his upcoming movie. Mammootty has signed for a new movie with Sharrath Sandith, a noted ad filmmaker. Sharrath has previously worked with the star in some ad films for South Indian bank.

Mammootty is currently shooting for Masterpiece, an upcoming campus thriller directed by Ajai Vasudev. He will be taking a schedule break from this movie to join the sets of Sharrath’s debut movie on the first week of June.

It is said to be a family drama inspired from real life incidents and will go on floors on June 5 in Bangalore. Miya George has been roped in to play the female lead. More details regarding the cast and crew are expected to be announced soon. This yet to be titled movie will be produced by NRI businessman Anthony D’Cruz.

Incidentally, most of Mammootty’s upcoming movies are with youngsters or debutants. 7th Day fame Shyam Dhar’s untitled family entertainer and cinematographer Shamdat’s directorial debut Streetlights are waiting in the pipeline. He has also signed for scenarist Sethu’s directorial debut Kozhithankachan and debutant Gireesh Damodar’s social satire written by actor turned filmmaker Joy Mathew.

Even BJP supporters refuse to support KP Sasikala in The Mahabharata issue

Hindu Aikya Vedi chairperson KP Sasikala recently made a statement that they will not allow the release of the upcoming movie The Mahabharata. The movie is an official adaptation of legendary writer MT Vasudevan Nair’s novel Randamoozham, which is based on the Hindu epic Mahabharatha.

KP Sasikala opposed the title of the movie. According to her According to her, Randamoozham is a novel that distorted the writings in the real epic Mahabharatha and hence the movie adaptation of the novel should not be titled as The Mahabharata.

She stressed that Mahabaratha is closely knit to beliefs and hence a novel that distorted the history and beliefs would not be allowed to release with this title. She warned that if the makers did not change its name, the Kerala Hindu Aikya Vedi would not allow its screening. Apparently, she wants the makers the title the movie as Randamoozham itself.

This statement from her has turned into a controversy. Social media users have lashed out at her with a series of trolls. Even BJP supporters have shown their dissent to support Sasikala’s statement.

A video that has gone viral shows an youngster questioning how Sasikala can demand a title change when she is in no way associated with the project. The popular opinion is that cinema should not be mixed with religion and that such fringe groups should not poke their noses into art.

The Mahabharata, after it’s official announcement was in the headlines of all the national medias. The movie is being planned on a whopping budget of Rs 1000 crores, making it the most expensive Indian movie ever.

Randamoozham is a different verison of Mahabharata, told from the perspective of Bheemasenan. Noted ad filmmaker VA Shrikumar Menon is helming this project. Mohanlal has been roped in to play the central character of Bheeman in the film. Leading actors and technicians from Indian cinema and across the world will be part of this epic movie.

The Mahabharata will go on floors by September next year and will hit screens in 2020.

Dhyan Sreenivasan is currently shooting for Mayabazar fame Thomas Sebastian’s upcoming movie. Apart from playing the lead role, Dhyan is also debuting as a screenwriter through this movie, titled as Goodalochana. He has written the screenplay for Anoop Joseph’s story.

Niranjana Anoop noted for her roles in movies like Loham, Puthan Panam and C/O Saira Banu is playing the female lead in Goodalochana. Sreenath Bhasi, Aju Varghese, Hareesh Perumanna, Oru Mexican Aparatha fame Vishnu Govindan are also part of this fun filled youth centric movie.

Dhyan is playing the role of Varun, who along with his friends, played by Aju Varghese and Sreenath Bhasi, is trying to make some quick money. Niranjana will be seen as Fidha, who is the cousin of Sreenath Bhasi’s Ajas. The movie is set entirely in Kozhikode. Director Thomas Sebastian’s last movie was Jamna Pyari, which had Kunchacko Boban and Gayathri Suresh in the lead roles.

Dhyan, meanwhile has also signed for Money Ratnam fame Santhosh Nair’s next. He will be once again teaming up with Aju Varghese for this yet to be titled movie, which is touted to be a fun filled entertainer. There are also reports about Dhyan planning to wear the director’s hat. Reportedly, he is trying to rope in Nivin Pauly and Nayanthara for his directorial debut. We are still awaiting for an official confirmation regarding the same from his side.

Malayalam cinema is growing in terms of commercial values. Quality was never a question, it was the budget of movies that were always limited. But of late, we have seen filmmakers stepping forward to make movies on a bigger scale and producers have also shown the willingness to invest. As Shah Rukh Khan recently said about Baahubali’s success, “no guts, no glory.”

The upcoming movie Tiyaan is one such film that involved a big budget, for a Malayalam movie. It has a star studded team that involves the likes of Prithviraj, Indrajith, Murali Gopy, Padmapriya, Ananya and many others.

Tiyaan is written by Murali Gopy and directed by Jiyen Krishnakumar. It is said to be a socio-political drama set in the North Indian milieu. The team shot for months in North Indian places like Varanasi, Ladakh etc.

Huge sets resembling the North Indian locales were erected in the Ramoji Rao Film City, Hyderabad. They shot for around 100 days in different schedules there. Tiyaan is produced by Haneef Mohammed of Red Rose Creations. They have invested around Rs 25 crores for the movie. This is the budget of Mohanlal’s Pulimurugan, which is incidentally the highest grossing Malayalam movie ever.

Tiyaan is perhaps the most closely guarded Malayalam film in recent years. The promos do not reveal anything about the movie’s plot and that has piqued the curiosity of the audience. If these promos are anything to go by, Tiyaan will be a landmark movie in Malayalam cinema.

Prithviraj is playing the character of Aslan Mohammed while Indrajith’s character is named as Pattabhiraman in the movie. Both the actors had earlier mentioned it is one of their most complex and challenging films ever. Murali Gopy will be seen in a new makeover as Ramkant Mahasay. North Indian actress Mrudula Sathe will be seen as Prithviraj’s wife in the movie. Padma Priya, Rahul Madhav, Ananya, Shine Tom Chacko, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Prakash Bare and Paris Lakshmi are also part of the cast. Tiyaan will hit screens for Eid.

Kunjiramayanam fame Basil Joseph’s latest outing Godha was released on May 19. The movie stars Tovino Thomas, Punjabi actress Wamiqa Gabbi and Renji Panicker in the lead roles. Godha is an out and out entertainer with wrestling as the backdrop.

Godha continues to garner excellent response from the audience. Critics have also given positive reports for the movie. The fact that it is a clean fun filled entertainer has attracted the families to the theatres.

According to latest reports from trade sources, Godha has grossed Rs 3.19 crores from it’s 3 day run in the Kerala box office. This is a great opening for the movie since there was no release in certain multiplexes in the state. Also, the pirated copies of Godha were uploaded in the internet by some anti socials. The makers have already approached the cyber cell and the copies have been taken down. Godha is expected to pick up gradually at the box office due to the largely positive word of mouth.

Apart from being just another entertainer, the movie has a strong statement about female empowerment. Wamiqa Gabbi’s Aditi Singh is the central character around which the plot revolves. Aju Varghese, Hareesh Perumanna, Dharmajan, Harish Perady, Biju Kuttan and many others are also part of the cast.

Godha is written by Thira fame Rakesh Mantodi. Shaan Rahman has composed the music while Vishnu Sarma has handled the cinematography. Aanandam fame Abhinav Sunder Nayak has edited the movie. Godha is produced by AV Anoop, CV Sarathy and Mukesh R Mehta under the banner of E4Entertainment.

After the superhit success of Maheshinte Prathikaram, Fahadh Faasil and Dileesh Pothen are teaming up once again. Their upcoming movie Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum is gearing up for release.

Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum stars Fahadh Faasil, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Alencier Ley Lopez in the major roles. Debutante Nimisha Sajayan is playing the female lead. Composer Bijibal in his Facebook page has written how he was impressed by Nimisha’s subtle performance in this movie.

Much like his debut movie Maheshinte Prathikaram, Dileesh Pothen is introducing a host of newcomers through Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum. The movie is said to be a very different entertainer which revolves around the story of four different people and how law and order affects their lives.

Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum is scheduled to hit screens on June 28. It is produced by Sandeep Senan and Aneesh M Thomas under the banner Urvashi Theatres. Story and screenplay for the movie is written by former journalist Sajeev Pazhoor.

Renowned cinematographer turned filmmaker Rajeev Ravi has cranked the camera for this movie. Bijibal has handled the music department while Kiran Das is roped is in charge of the edits.

Ever since Dulquer Salmaan became an established actor, there has been speculations about him teaming up with his father Mammootty for a movie. Every time the possibility of such a reunion is asked, both of them have said that it will happen at the right time comes.

Well, it seems like the right time has finally come. Talks within the industry suggest that Dulquer Salmaan will be a part of his father’s 400th film. Amal Neerad, Anwar Rasheed and Vysakh are the three directors being considered for this project.
