Adventures of Omanakuttan was not properly distributed, says Asif Ali

Asif Ali starrer Adventures of Omanakkuttan was released on May 19. The movie, directed by debutant Rohit VS is a story of Omanakuttan, an introvert who pretends to be different persons to different people. At a particular point he loses his memory and how he tackles it with the help of Pallavi, a paranormal investigator is the core plot of this movie.

Adventures Of Omanakuttan opened to average to good reviews from the critics. The popular opinion is that it is experimental movie but definitely worth a watch. But unfortunately, the movie is on the verge of being washed away from theaters. Director Rohit’s comment on a Facebook post where he asked those interested, to watch it soon as it’s on the verge of removal, triggered widespread discussions in social medias.

Finally, lead actor Asif Ali himself has come out about why Adventures Of Omanakuttan is on the verge of being washed away so soon. In his Facebook post Asif Ali has written about how he was initially thrilled after hearing the response for the movie and his acting. But it was only later that he realized the movie was not properly distributed in Kerala.

He has written, “It is understandable if a movie is washed away due to poor response but it is disheartening in the case of Adventures Of Omanakuttan as we have failed to take the movie to a wider audience.

Asif Ali thanked all those who have supported the movie by giving positive feedback and spreading a good word of mouth. The actor added that he doesn’t claim Adventures Of Omanakuttan to be an extraordinary movie, but assured that it will not be a let down. He requested cine lovers to please support the movie and give it a position that it honestly deserves.

Adventures Of Omanakuttan stars Asif Ali and Bhavana in the lead roles. Aju Varghese, Siddique and Saiju Kurup have essayed the supporting roles in the movie. It is co-written by director Rohith VS along with Sameer Abdul. The technical team of this movie mostly comprises of newcomers including the cinematographer, music director and editor.

Veteran filmmaker Thampi Kannanthanam, in a recent interview shared some of his experiences working with Mohanlal. The director worked with Mohanlal seven times out of the 16 films he directed.

In the interview, Thampi Kannanthanam recollected an incident that happened during the shoot of one of his films Chukkan. They were shooting a very important scene featuring Mohanlal and NN Pillai. It was an emotional one in which Mohanlal had to cry after NN Pillai’s dialogues.

The director insisted that Mohanlal should try crying without using glycerine as he wanted it to be very authentic and touching. Mohanlal cried in that scene without glycerine and his performance left the director dumbstruck. He also shared another similar incident that happened during the shoot of Maanthrikam. The director had instructed the fight master that Mohanlal’s punches should not be with hands but leg kicks. And that fight scene in Maanthrikam is famous even today.

Thampi Kannanthanam’s Rajavinte Makan, released in 1986 was the movie that propelled Mohanlal to the position of a superstar. His character Vincent Gomez is regarded as one his most iconic roles of all time. The movie went on to be remade in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada with leading actors but none of them could even come close to Mohanlal.

Latest development in the camp is the joining of ace cameraman/filmmaker Santhosh Sivan. He will be serving as an executive producer for the movie. He is quoted saying to Times Of India, “It’s based on an article in a newspaper and I found it very interesting. Plus, it’s got a corporate house backing the movie as well as Vijayalakshmi helming it, so I am glad to be part of the movie.

Director BR Vijayalakshmi is noted for being Asia’s first woman cinematographer. She has worked in many popular films like Chinna Veedu, Mallu Vetti Minor, Kottai Vaasal, Decemeber 31 etc. She has also scripted the Malayalam movie Daddy, which had Arvind Swamy in the lead.

Tovino’s yet to be titled Tamil debut film is an unusual love story. It is said to be based on a true incident that happened in Brazil. Shoot for the movie has already commenced and the team have been shooting in various parts of Kerala and Chennai. Apart from Tovino, the movie also stars many other prominent supporting actors. It is expected to hit screens by June this year.

Meanwhile, his latest outing Godha is getting excellent reports from all the centres. The movie, directed by Basil Joseph is an out and out entertainer featuring Tovino, Punjabi actress Wamiqa Gabbi and Renji Panicker in the lead roles. Tovino’s upcoming movie with director Aashiq Abu went on floors last day in Madurai. National award winner Shyam Pushkaran and Dileesh Nair have jointly scripted this film titled as Maayanadhi.

Tiyaan, one of the most awaited Malayalam movies of the year, is gearing up for release. The movie is highly anticipated due to the big names involved. The talented sibling duo of Prithviraj and Indrajith are teaming up once again. Murali Gopy has written the movie along with playing a pivotal role.

Tiyaan, directed by Jiyen Krishnakumar is said to be a socio-political drama. Our sources close to the unit inform that Tiyaan is one of the most expensive Malayalam movies to have released till date. The team shot for more than 100 days in the Ramoji Rao Film City in Hyderabad, which is the first for a Malayalam movie.

It is perhaps the most closely guarded films in recent years. Audience are still unaware of the genre or exact theme of Tiyaan. Huge sets resembling the locales of North India were erected in the film city and they employed strict restrictions for outsiders. Some other portions were shot in real locations across North India. The movie’s recently released teaser had a visual scale that was unseen in Mollywood. All this has heightened the expectations multi fold.

Tiyaan is produced by Haneef Ahmed under his banner Red Rose Creations. It is being made on a budget of around Rs 25 crores, making it one of the most expensive Malayalam movies to have released till date.

Prithviraj is playing the character of Aslan Mohammed while Indrajith’s character is named as Pattabhiraman in the movie. Both the actors had earlier mentioned it is one of their most complex and challenging films ever. Murali Gopy will be seen in a new makeover as Ramkant Mahasay.

North Indian actress Mrudula Sathe will be seen as Prithviraj’s wife in the movie. Padma Priya, Ananya, Shine Tom Chacko, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Prakash Bare, Rahul Madhav, Alok Jain and Paris Lakshmi are also part of the cast.

Meanwhile, the whole nation is looking forward to what next from SS Rajamouli. Reports about the director planning to make a movie on the Indian epic Mahabharatha is doing the rounds for sometime now. The director in several interviews has talked about his wish to make a movie on Mahabaratha.

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan in a media interaction had also expressed his desire to work with Rajamouli if ever he was doing Mahabaratha.

He had said “I am a huge fan of Rajamouli’s work and if he ever plans to make Mahabharata, I’d love to play Krishna or Karna. I might actually go with Krishna.

It looks like this wish is finally turning out to be true. Bollywood medias report that Aamir has already committed for Rajamouli’s Mahabaratha. Reportedly, Aamir wants to conduct extensive research on the characters in the mythology and has already started works for the same. The reports also mention that the movie will be made on a huge budget, even bigger than Baahubali. Aamir Khan’s production house and another big company will be collaborating for this project.

It is worth a mention that a movie on Mahabaratha has already been announced down South. A 1000 crore project based on MT Vasudevan Nair’s novel Randamoozham was officially announced recently. Mohanlal is playing the lead role in this epic movie titled as The Mahabharata. UAE based Indian businessman Dr BR Shetty is producing this movie and it will be directed by renowned ad filmmaker VA Shrikumar Menon.

Tiyaan is written by Murali Gopy and directed by Jiyen Krishnakumar. The movie is said to be a socio-political drama set in North India. A large portion of the movie was shot in huge sets erected in the Ramoji Rao Film City, Hyderabad.

Godha, written by Rakesh Mantodi is a full on entertainer with wrestling as the backdrop. Punjabi actress Wamiqa Gabbi has played the female lead in the movie. Her character Aditi Singh has equal prominence, if not more, to that of Tovino’s Anjaneya Das.

KP Sasikala says she won’t allow the release of Mohanlal’s The Mahabharata

It is already known that Jnanpith award winner MT Vasudevan Nair’s famous novel Randamoozham is being made as a movie with the Mohanlal in the lead. The movie, titled as The Mahabharata will be made on an astronomical budget of Rs 1000 crores. UAE based Indian businessman Dr BR Shetty is producing this venture.

While the movie’s announcement grabbed the headlines all across the nation, Hindu Aikya Vedi chairperson KP Sasikala has threatened to stall it’s release. Aaccording to her, Randamoozham is a novel that twisted the real epic Mahabharatha and hence the movie adaptation of the novel should not be titled as The Mahabharata.

PK Sasikala affirms that Mahabaratha is related to religion and hence a novel that distorted the history and religion will not be allowed to release with this title. She has said that the movie should also be named as Randamoozham like how other novel adaptations like Chemeen and Odayil Ninnu were named.

MT Vasudevan Nair’s Randamoozham is based on the Indian epic Mahabharatha, but told from the perspective of Bheemasenan. Mohanlal has been roped in to play the central character of Bheeman in the film. Leading actors and technicians from Indian cinema and across the world will be part of this epic movie. Renowned ad filmmaker VA Shrikumar Menon will helm this project.

Jude Anthany Joseph who debuted in Mollywood as a director is now concentrating more on acting. Jude has directed two movies- Om Shanti Oshana and Oru Muthassi Gadha to his credit. But he has decided to take a break from direction and is now into acting.

We had earlier reported about Jude playing one of the leads in 100 Degree Celsius director Rakesh Gopan’s next titled as Aiswarya Vilasam Gunda Sangham. Now, the filmmaker turned actor has grabbed an role in superstar Mohanlal’s upcoming movie Velipadinte Pusthakam.

Jude Anthany himself informed the news to his followers through his Facebook page. He has written about how a Mohanlal fan has come all the way to finally act with him. Last year, Jude shared screen space with the other superstar Mammootty in Johny Antony’s Thoppil Joppan. Apart from that, he has also played notable roles in Premam, Action Hero Biju and Oru Muthassi Gadha.

Velipadinte Pusthakam is a campus based entertainer written by Benny P Nayarambalam. Mohanlal is playing the role of a vice principal in the movie. Angamaly Diaries fame Anna Reshma, Anoop Menon, Priyanka Nair, Sarath Kumar and many others are also part of the cast.

Shaan Rahman is composing the music while youngster Vishnu Sarma will be cranking the camera. Mohanlal’s own production house Aashirvad Cinemas is funding this movie. The makers are planning to release the movie for this year’s Onam season.
