Vishu movies lined up for release; More expectations on the two Mammootty starrers

Malayali filmmakers pin high hopes on the Vishu season, which also coincides with the summer vacations. It is a favourite season for the families to throng theatres and makers try to cash in on that. Some highly exciting movies are waiting to hit screens for this year’s Vishu also.

Megastar Mammootty’s two movies- The Great Father and Puthan Panam, Mohanlal’s 1971 Beyond Borders, Dileep’s Georgettan’s Pooram, Nivin Pauly’s Sakhavu and Dulquer Salmaan’s CIA are the biggies scheduled to hit screens this season.

Despite all these movies lined up for release, it’s the two Mammootty starrers that have been making the right kind of the noise.

The Great Father, directed by debutant Haneef Adeni is the most hyped movie of the year. The promos and teasers have sky rocketed the expectations of the audience. Fans have organised extensive fans shows and are going all the way out to ensure a massive opening. Sneha, Arya, Shaam, Malavika Mohanan and IM Vijayan will be seen in pivotal characters. The movie, said to be a revenge thriller, hit screens all over Kerala on March 30.

Puthan Panam, as industry insiders believe will be the dark horse of the season. The makers have kept the promotions and talks very minimal. But even there’s a good hype surrounding the movie. Puthan Panam marks the reunion of one of the most favourite actor-director combos of Mollywood, Mammootty and Ranjith. It will be a socially relevant movie discussing about the current financial situation and black money circulation in the country. The movie will be a different perspective on director Ranjith’s National Award winning movie Indian Rupee. So obviously,  expectations are on the higher side.

Strangely, Major Ravi- Mohanlal team’s 1971 Beyond Borders have not been promoted extensively. One notable aspect of all Mohanlal releases in the past few months have been the right kind of promotions and marketing, be it Oppam, Pulimurugan or Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol. 1971 Beyond Borders is set to hit screens on April 7. It is a big budget war drama based on the 1971 Indo Pak. In a bid to make it as a pan Indian movie, the director had roped in a huge star cast comprising of actors from many other industries. But as aways, Mohanlal’s huge fan base and the kind of rich purple patch he has been going through certainly heightens the commercial prospects of the movie.

Was is it a publicity stunt to leak the clip from The Great Father?

Was is it a publicity stunt to leak the clip from The Great Father?

Yesterday, a clip from Megastar Mammootty’s highly anticipated movie The Great Father was found online. The clip was released online via a page that doesn’t have many followers. Many feared that the entire movie was leaked and the clip soon went viral across social medias.

But was the clip really leaked or was it released by the makers themselves for promotional purpose. Anyone who has watched the clip would have these doubts and there’s quite a few reasons for that.

Leaking a clip from the movie is majorly aimed at destroying the movie and it’s prospects. If that was the objective, then they could have leaked some major scenes from the movie. Why should they leak a portion that doesn’t reveal much about what’s in store in the movie?

The clip features Mammootty’s brilliant performance. If the idea was to showcase and popularise Mammootty’s perfomance, then it was certainly a fan’s work. But even then why release such a scene when they could have easily leaked some mass and stylish sequences from the movie.

Another major thing to note is that, it’s comparatively easier to leak a trailer or a teaser from the studio than leaking one from the final output. The leaked clip is a properly cut video that has gone through all the post production works including DI and sound mixing. There should be some reason why this particular scene was cut and leaked. If the aim was to degrade the movie, they could have leaked the climax portions. Doubts like these are lingering in our minds and there are several discussions in social medias about the same.

The clip features an absolutely brilliant performance from Mammootty, so fans are definitely in for a treat from this Friday. Hoping to see the movie mint some big bucks at the box office.

Passing away of near and dear ones is not something anyone in the world would want to go through, forget about celebrities. Though there are some wrong perceptions about Mammootty being a arrogant and hot headed man, only a very few of them are aware about the emotional side of the actor.

Actor Siddique, who considers Mammootty as his elder brother, in a recent interview revealed about the lesser known emotional side of Mammootty. Siddique shared about how Cochin Haneefa’s bereavement shook Mammootty. The final rites in his funeral were done by his friends from the industry including Siddique. Mammootty was also asked to join them but he could not as he was very emotional and distressed at the moment.

Cochin Haneefa and Mammootty were very close to each other. They have shared screen space with each other in several movies. Cochin Haneefa has directed seven movies in Malayalam, and six out of them had Mammootty in the lead role. Even after his passing away, Mammootty continues to be a pillar of support for his dear friend’s family both financially and personally.

Siddique added that, Mammootty may not be available while someone is sharing their happiness but he will be definitely there at any instance of grief. Mammootty considers it as a responsibility to be there at any state of emergency.
