“I feel like Kamala is standing in front of me”, exclaims Kamala Das’s sister after seeing Manju Warrier in the sets of Aami

After entwining in a lot of controversies and speculations, director Kamal has finally kick started the shoot for his ambitious project Aami, the biopic on late writer Madhavikutty aka Kamala Das.

Manju Warrier is playing the lead role in the movie. The official first look poster was released yesterday. Manju Warrier in the poster resembles the writer’s younger days with the long hair and round glasses.

Director Kamal had initially roped in Bollywood actress Vidya Balan to play the lead role. However, the actress opted out of the project owing to creative differences with the director. She backed off from Aami, after she was unhappy with the last minute changes in the script.

After Kamal roped in Manju Warrier for the project, the actress was targeted by cyber bullies for collaborating with Kamal and doing such a controversial subject. Kamala Das’s life was also not short of controversies mainly due to her bold writings and her conversion to Islam.

Even after Manju was signed for the project, still there doubts regarding Manju’s looks. However, the dedicated actress put on a few kilos prior to the shoot. Madhavikutty’s sister felt that Manju Warrier looked exactly like how her sister was in her younger days.

She had visited the sets yesterday when she saw Manju with the make up and long hair that reminded her of Madhavikutty’s younger days. Director Kamal considers it as a very big compliment.

Prithviraj Sukumaran and Murali Gopy are said to be playing important roles in the movie. Aami will be produced by P T Rafel and Roban Rocha on a budget of 5 Crores.

M Jayachandran and Thoufeeq Quershi will be handling the music director. Veteran Sreekar Prasad is the editor while Oscar award winning sound designer Resul Pookkutty is also part of the technical team.

Unprecedented rush for The Great Father advance booking

Megastar Mammootty’s most awaited movie, The Great Father is all set to hit screens on March 30. The movie, written and directed by debutant Haneef Adeni, features Mammootty in the lead role of David Ninan.

Mammootty’s fans are promoting the movie like never before. The Great Father is Mammootty’s most anticipated movie in recent years and hence the pre- release hype surrounding the film is sky high. Fans have pinned massive expectations on this movie.

Advance booking for the opening day shows have already been opened and there’s an unprecedented rush to grab the tickets. It is reported that the movie will have a wide release in around 200 theatres all over Kerala.

We had earlier told you that The Great Father will have fans shows in more than 80 centres in Kerala. The final list has not yet be confirmed and more centres are expected to be added in the coming week.

Meanwhile, the movie was censored with an U/A certificate by the CBFC. The movie is said to have quite a few action blocks and violence and hence an U/A was given.

The Great Father is said to be a revenge thriller. Sneha is playing Mammootty’s wife, Michelle David in the movie. Kollywood actor Arya will be seen in a pivotal character as Andrews Eapen. Shaam, Malavika Mohanan, IM Vijayan, Kammatipadam fame Manikandan Achari and Baby Anikha are also part of the cast.

Gopi Sunder is the composer while Noufal Abdulla has handled the edits. Roby Varghese Raj has cranked the camera for this movie.

August Cinemas owned by Prithviraj Sukumaran, Santhosh Sivan, Arya and Shaji Natesan have funded this movie.

Vishnu Unnikrishnan gets injured while shooting for Mammootty’s Streetlights

Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan fame Vishnu Unnikrishnan has recently met with an accident, while shooting for Mammootty’s upcoming movie Streetlights. Vishnu was shooting in Mattancherry, when the accident happened. The actor has reportedly suffered minor injuries in his right hand.

Streetlights marks the directorial debut of renowned cinematographer Shamdat is. The movie went on floors yesterday in Kochi. Mammootty is playing a police officer in the movie, which is touted to be a crime thriller.

This movie is expected to be a major break in Vishnu’s career after the sleeper success of Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan, which he had also scripted. Director of Streetlights, Shamdat was also the DOP in Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan. He apparently roped in Vishnu for Streetlights after being impressed with the youngster’s performance. Vishu’s co-star from the movie, Lijomol Jose is also part of the Mammootty starrer.

Streetlights doesn’t have a heroine as such, as it is a tale of many characters. Other supporting actors include Soubin Shahir, Joy Mathew, Indrans, Sudhi Koppa and Harish Kanaran. The movie is bank rolled by Mammootty’s Playhouse Pictures.

Editor turned filmmaker Mahesh Narayanan’s debut directorial Take Off was released yesterday in around 224 theatres all over India. The movie has been getting excellent reports both from the critics and the trade sources. Kunchacko Boban, Fahadh Faasil, Parvathy Menon and Asif Ali have played the lead roles in the movie.

Critics have unanimously praised the film and the team’s efforts. Social media is abuzz with appreciation for Take Off with many calling it as a landmark movie in Malayalam film industry. The movie is certain to have a glorious run in the box office.

Kunchako Boban in a recent interview informed that the team will be carrying out welfare activities with a share of the profit from the movie. They will also support late filmmaker Rajesh Pillai’s family with the profit from the collections.

Take Off was made as a tribute to late filmmaker Rajesh Pillai. The movie is funded by Anto Joseph and Shebin Becker in association with Rajesh Pillai Films. Megha Rajesh Pillai is the executive producer of the movie.

We had also told you that the lead actors Fahadh Faasil and Kunchako Boban have not taken a single penny as remuneration for working in the movie. Kunchacko Boban has played a male nurse in the movie while Fahadh played the role of Manoj Abraham, an Indian Ambassador in the movie.

Take Off is a story about nurses who get trapped in Iraq during the war period. The movie is inspired from real life incidents when around 40 nurses including Malayalis were trapped in a hospital in Tikrit region in Iraq due to the ISIS attacks.

The movie is jointly written by Mahesh Narayanan and PV Shaji Kumar. Abhilash Balachandran and Mahesh Narayanan handled the edits. Sanu Varghese cranked the camera for this movie.

Mohanlal as Mathew Manjooran in Villain

Mohanlal is currently shooting for B Unnikrishnan’s upcoming movie Villain. First schedule was completed recently in Trivandrum and the team will be soon moving to Ernakulam for the next. Mohanlal is playing the role of an ex-cop and he is seen sporting a salt and pepper bearded look for the movie.

Latest we hear is that his character in the movie is named as Mathew Manjooran. The actor had shed a few kilos before the commencement of shoot as his character in the movie demanded a trimmer look. Mohanlal looks much leaner now and the grey beard suits him well.

Villain also boasts of a star studded cast in Manju Warrier, Tamil actor Vishal, Telugu actor Srikanth, Hansika Motwani and Raashi Khanna. Manju Warrier will be seen as Mohanlal’s wife while Raashi Khanna is playing a cop in the movie.

Villain will be a stylish crime thriller. It is said to be the first Malayalam movie to be shot completely in 8K resolution. Manoj Paramahamsa known for his works in movies like Nanban and Vinnai Thandi Varuvaya, is the DOP. He is using the Helium 8K camera in the Weapon series of the RED Digital Cinema Camera Company.

The movie will have much significance to special effects also. An international company from Poland have been roped in to handle the same.

Peter Hein has been roped in to choreograph the stunts along with Stunt Silva. Music for the movie composed by Oppam fame 4 Musics.

Fahadh Faasil, who was out of action for over one year, made sure that the wait was worth it. He played the role of Manoj Abraham, an Indian embassy officer in the movie. Though his screen time was limited, he won the maximum applause with his effortless performance and screen presence.

His character is very pivotal to the story line and the role was absolutely safe in his hands. Such a talented actor who can have a lasting impact even if his screen time is limited to a few minutes. Through Take Off, Fahadh once again showed why he is rated as the most talented among the current generation of actors.

I myself dub for my films : Mohanlal

Mohanlal of late has shown interest in doing movies from other languages also. Last year he did two back to back Telugu movies- Manamantha and Janatha Garage.

In Manamantha, directed by Chandra Sekhar Yeleti, Mohanlal played a commoner as a Malayali family man based in Hyderabad. The actor himslef dubbed for his role in the movie.

Janatha Garage had him in a Godfather-esque role as Sathyam. The movie, directed by Koratala Siva, featured Telugu star Jr NTR in the lead role along with Mohanlal. Mohanlal did not dub for his character in the movie and it came in as a huge surprise to the audience as Mohanlal is known to dub for his role in all his movies.

In a recent interview, Mohanlal revealed that he could not dub for the role in Janatha Garage due to the lack of time. The makers had already announce the release date and Mohanlal could not find time in between his busy schedule. In the interview he said, he is insistent about his own dubbing even while doing Kannnada, Hindi and Tamil movies. He feels that all the emotions can be conveyed convincingly only when the actor himslef dubs for his role.

Mohanlal meanwhile is shooting for B Unnikrishnan’s Villain in which he is playing a retired police officer. He is also awaiting the release of 1971 Beyond Borders, an upcoming war drama, directed by Major Ravi. The movie is scheduled to hit screens on April 7.

Murali Gopy has been penning some big projects of late and here’s one more. He will soon scripting a movie starring Prithviraj in the lead and it will be directed by Arun Kumar Aravind.

Murali Gopy and Arun Kumar Aravind have previously worked together in Ee Adutha Kaalathu, Left Right Left and 1 By Two. All these three movies were like chalk and cheese. While Ee Adutha Kaalathu was a brainy mix of genres with multiple stories, Left Right Left was a hard hitting political drama. Their last movie together 1 by Two, was a psychological thriller.

In a recent interview, when asked about the genre of their upcoming movie, Murali Gopy is quoted saying, “I am someone who likes to hop genres. It will be something different from the previous movies I have done. If we compare the scripts Arun and I have worked with, each film was different and the subjects we choose keep getting more intense.

About working with Arun Kumar Aravind, Murali Gopy said, “I have a creative camaraderie with Arun. I write my movies from a film editor’s perspective. I like to try different editing patterns for each of my films. And fortunately Arun can also relate to that,” says the scriptwriter-actor.

Arun, who is an editor turned filmmaker, was away from movies for a while. He is now staging a comeback directing Asif Ali in a rural revenge thriller. The movie is based on legendary filmmaker Padmarajan’s short story and is scripted by his son Anandhapadmanabhan. Murali Gopy is also playing a pivotal role in the movie.

Murali Gopy meanwhile is waiting the release of Tiyaan, directed by debutant Jiyen Krishnakumar. Apart from writing the movie, he has also played a pivotal role as Ramkant Mahasay. He is also scripting Dileep- Sidharth team’s upcoming movie Kammarasambhavam, directed by ad filmmaker Ratheesh Ambat.

Mohanlal- Major Ravi team’s 1971 Beyond Borders is all set to hit screens on April 7. Telugu version of the movie, titled as 1971 Baratha Sarihaddu is also releasing on the same day.

The movie is based on the 1971 war fought between India and Pakistan. Mohanlal is playing a dual role in the movie, Mahadevan and his father Sahadevan, who fought for the country in the 1971 war period.

As per latest reports, Megastar Mammootty has lent his voice for the movie’s narration. Reportedly, Mammootty dubbed for his portions yesterday in Kochi. There is still no official confirmation regrading the same.

1971 Beyond Borders is a multistarrer featuring Tollywood hero Allu Sirish and Bollywood actor Arunoday Singh in pivotal roles. The movie stars Asha Sarath, Srushti Dange, Priyanka Agarwal and Zoya Zayed Khan, Sudheer Karamana, Renji Panicker, Saiju Kurup and many other actors in supporting roles.

Sujith Vassudev has handled the cinematography. Songs in the movie are composed by three music directors— Najim Arshad, Siddharth Vipin, and Rahul Subramanian. Background score is handled by Gopi Sunder. This big budget movie is produced by Haneef Mohammed under the banner Red Rose Creations.
