In the technical side, CG works could have been better but the visuals were aesthetic and appealing. Stunts choreographed by Allan Poppleton, who has worked in Hollywood films like Lord of the Rings and Avatar, is brilliant. The movie will throw light on the intricate details and the history behind the world’s oldest primeval martial art form Kalaripayattu.

Veeram will be a visual treat for those who enjoy watching epic historic dramas.

Pulimurugan closing in on 150 days with 150 crores collection

Last year, we got to a new feat that once seemed far away from the clutches of a Malayalam movie. Pulimurugan showed it’s possible for a Malayalam movie to touch the 100 crore mark.

The movie, released on October 7 was a product of unprecedented hype. The team behind the movie had a baggage of expectations, and they made sure the movie lived up to that. Pulimurugan is an example of how marketing can have a great impact in the box office figures.

The movie is nearing the magical 150 days theatrical with a collection of more than 150 crores. It is a phenomenal achievement for a movie, be it from any language, to have 150 days theatrical run. The movie overcame all sorts of obstacles that came in it’s way in the form of piracy, financial crisis due to demonetisation and the theatre strike.

Pulimurugan is the result of continuous hardwork of a team of technicians and actors for over an year. Writer Udhayakrishna and director Vysakh’s conviction to plan the movie on a big canvas and execute it with such near perfection is praiseworthy. And they had the right kind of support from their producer, Tomichan Mulakupadam.

Peter Hein’s brilliantly choreographed action sequences, Shaji Kumar’s stunning visuals, Gopi Sunder’s electrifying score and the commendable VFX works, everything went hand in hand to ensure a quality final product.

However, all this would not have been possible if not for Mohanlal. At the age of 56, he did stunts that even the younger generation of actors would not dare to do. Audience thronged to the theatres to watch Mohanlal in all his glory on big screen. His name pulled the audience of all age groups to theatres. The success of Pulimurugan was a wake up call for all those who believed that mass action movies do not have takers in Mollywood.

Pulimurugan will always find it’s name in the history books of Mollywood, not only for becoming the first Malayalam movie to enter the 100 crore club but for inspiring filmmakers to plan movies on a wide canvas with a bigger scale.
