Mohanlal in Ezra?

Prithviraj’s next release is Ezra, a horror thriller directed by debutant Jay K. The movie will hit screens on February 10. Ever since the promo teaser of the movie was released, social media was abuzz with specualtions about Mohanlal playing the role of Abraham Ezra in the movie. The trailer featured a shadow of a man standing with a slanting shoulder. This triggered the specualtions and along with that the movie’s Wikipedia page had Mohanlal’s name in the star cast.

Finally the director Jay K has put an end to all the speculations. In a recent interview he said, “After the trailer release I saw many posts in social media about Mohanlal playing the role of Abraham Ezra in the movie. It soon spread like wild fire. Friends and well wishers called me to enquire about the news. It was like a dream for me, Mohanlal and Prithviraj together in my debut movie. Even I started wishing for Mohanlal being a part of my movie.”

The movie revolves around the Jew settlement in Kochi and nearby areas. Prithviraj is playing the role of a Cheif Executive Officer from a shipping company who gets transfered from Mumbai to Kochi. Priya Anand is playing the heroine. The couple move to a new place in Kochi. Rest of the plot deals with the problems they encounter there.

Babu Antony is playing the role of a Jewish priest while Vijayaraghavan is essaying a Christian priest’s role. Tovino Thomas will be seen as a cop. Sudev Nair, Bharat Dabholkar and Prathap Pothen also play supporting characters in the movie.
The film is produced by Mukesh R Mehta and C V Saradhi under the banner E 4 Entertainment.

Left Right Left, written by Murali Gopy and directed by Arun kumar Aravind is considered as one of the finest political dramas ever in Malayalam cinema. The movie enjoys a cult following thanks to Murali Gopy’s brilliant writing infused with powerful dialogues and the lead cast’s terrific performance. Indrajith Sukumaran, Hareesh Perady, Lena and Murali Gopy played the lead roles.

However, during the time of its release in 2013, the movie had to undergo several problems. The film threw light on the current political scenario in Kerala. Many political outfits associated to the Left front staged protests to stall the release of the movie. The then Exhibitors Federation president Liberty Basheer made a controversial statement regarding the screening of the movie. He alleged that the movie is an anti-communist film that will create violence in the State and that the theatre owners would have to meet the losses. This statement by Liberty Basheer forced several theatre owners especially in the North Malabar region to stop screening the movie.

In the past, Liberty Basheer has tried to block release of several movies. His autocratic decision-making was the major reason behind many movies ending up as commercial failures. However, the tables have now reversed with the formation of new union Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK). Producers and distributors have made it clear that they do not want to cooperate with Liberty Basheer. Industry insiders believe that his current situation is the result of his atrocities while he was at the helm of things.

Suriya’s much awaited Singam3 aka Si3 is gearing up for release on February 9. The movie finally got a release after a lot of postponing.

Producer K E Gnanavel Raja recently lashed out at the infamous piracy group Tamilrockers during the audio release function of Vijay Antony’s upcoming movie Yaman.

The producer turned furious when he started taking about Tamilrockers. He said, “TamilRockers team has announced that they will live stream Si3 at 11 am on its release day. The entire team has put two years of hard work and dedication to bring out the movie. On one side we are waiting for financial clearances to get the movie released. Now on the other side these guys are confidently announcing that they will live stream the movie at 11 am. The entire industry, including me is watching it like spectators. Until two days back I had no idea of contesting in the producers council election. But today I challenge the Tamilrockers to release my film. I am pretty sure you guys will do that because there are so many loopholes in our industry. Within six months I will find you; wherever you are, I will make sure you get arrested and put you behind the bars. Then I will live stream that event to the public. Elections are fast approaching. We know what to do for that. The entire industry is still not united and there are many internal problems. But if we continue to remain like this our film industry will soon join the TV serial list. To stop that from happening, some bold decisions have to be taken for the betterment of the industry.”

Recently, Jayam Ravi- Aravind Swamy team’s latest movie Bogan was watched by around 3 lakh people through the pirated copy uploaded in Facebook. The movie was released just two days back.

Aju Varghese and Neeraj Madhav are teaming up once again for an upcoming movie titled as Lava Kusha. Interestingly, the movie is written by Neeraj Madhav and directed by debutant Gireesh Mano.

Biju Menon is also said to be playing an important role in the movie. Aju Varghese shared the news about the movie through his official Facebook page. He shared the title poster of the movie with a pun intended comment, “night shoot and dance sequences on the first day itself”.

Neeraj Madhav and Aju Varghese have acted together in several movies like Oru Vadakkan Selfie, KL 10 Pathu, Kunjiramayanam and Adi Kappyare Kootamani. Neeraj has even choreographed a song in Oru Vadakkan Selfie with him, Nivin Pauly and Aju Varghese featuring in it. The song, Enne Thallendammaava, became a sensational hit thanks to the peppy beats, simple lyrics and the funky dance moves.

Lava Kusha is believed to be a out and out comedy entertainer. Gopi Sunder is composing the music while Pulimurugan editor Johnkutty is in charge of the cuts. Prakash Velayudhan is the cinematographer. The movie is produced by Jaison Elamgulam and Gireesh Vaikom.

Malayalam Cine Technicians Association (MACTA) in association with Espanio Events organised a function, MACTA Pranama Sandhya, in Kochi on February 5.

The event was organised for honouring the legends in Malayalam cinema. Famous writer M T Vasudevan Nair was presented with the inaugural Legend of Honour award.

Celebrities like Mammootty, Balachandra Menon, Dulquer Salmaan, Kunchako Boban, Unni Mukundan, Jayasurya, Prayaga Rose Martin, Anusree, Namitha Pramod, Manikandan Achari, Muthumani, Gopi Sunder, KG George, Bhadran, IV Sasi, Fazil, Joshy, Lal, Parvathy Nambiar, MG Sreekumar, Jean Paul Lal, Unni R, Martin Prakkat, Abrid Shine, RS Vimal and many others attended the event held in the Gokulam Convention Centre in Kochi.

As always, Dulquer was the centre of attraction during the event even in the presence of slew of other big stars. He was the cynosure of the paparazzi as well as the guests present. Dulquer walked in the midst of the event and was seated in the front row. Soon kids started circling the star to catch a glimpse of him in person and if possible take a selfie. The event was organised for honouring the legends in Malayalam cinema. Litterateur and filmmaker M T Vasudevan Nair was presented with the inaugural Legend of Honour award.

Young star Dulquer Salmaan was one of the major attractions of the event. When on stage, Dulquer was asked by the host about the reason reason behind his sucess and good looks. He said, “My vappachi who is both my guru and mentor is the reason. All this has happened only because I am his son. That is why I am getting such big reception among the audience. My only aim is not to derogate his name.”

Dulquer’s pan Indian looks, incredible charm and his amazing acting prowess have made him a popular face among the audience. He currently enjoys a huge fan base in Kerala especially among the youngsters and is one of the biggest crowd pullers of his generation.

Generally it is very rare for an unsuccessful movie to have a sequel but Aadu Oru Bheekara Jeeviyanu is an exception. Yes, Aadu 2 is finally happening.

Aadu Oru Bheekara Jeeviyanu directed by Midhun Manuel Thomas was released in 2015. The movie was a commercial failure but found huge popularity after the DVD release. Shaji Pappan and his gang became an household name. Soon, social media platforms were abuzz with speculations about a sequel for the movie.

Now Jayasurya, who played the character Shaji Pappan, has announced that the movie will be releasing for this Christmas. He uploaded a photo with director Midhun Manuel Thomas and producer Vijay Babu along with a message, “Shaji Pappan and the gang for this Christmas“.

Aadu Oru Bheekara Jeeviyanu was Midhun’s debut directorial. The movie was a complete comedy entertainer revolving around Shaji Pappan and his team of tug war players. They manage to win a tournament and along with the cash prize and the trophy, they also receive a female goat. Rest of the plot is about how they try to get rid of the goat, Pinky.

Upon release, critics panned the movie for it’s lackluster storyline. But with the DVD release, the movie garnered fan following owing to its slapstick humour and the catchy background song for each character. Even the character names- Shaji Pappan, Arakkal Abu, Captain Cleetus, Satan Xavier, Sarbath Shameer- became hugely popular. This inspired the makers to make a sequel for the movie.

Jayasurya, Saiju Kurup, Vijay Babu, Dharmajan Bolgatty and the rest of the gang are expected to reprise their roles.

Prithviraj’s Karnan to go on floors in August this year

Prithviraj Sukumaran’s upcoming historical drama Karnan will start rolling in August this year. Director of the movie RS Vimal informed the news exclusively to Onlookers Media.

The director has said that apart from Prithviraj the movie will feature leading stars from all major Indian languages. The movie will be made on a massive scale with a budget of Rs 300 crores. RS Vimal made his debut in 2015 with the blockbuster romantic drama Ennu Ninte Moideen also starring Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead.

The team of Karnan is currently busy with the pre-production works in the Ramoji Rao Film city in Hyderabad. Around 200 technicians from Trivandrum and Hyderabad have been working for the past six months in developing the animation works that will be essential for the shooting purposes.

The animation version will be very useful for the artists, make up men, art director and cinematographer to get an idea about the shooting procedure. This will help in saving time and money during the shooting. Mythical locations like Hasthinapuri and Indrapuri have been recreated by the team using animation. This will help the art department during the shoot to create the sets and other props. Most portions of the movie will be shot in Ramoji Rao Film City and in the banks of Ganga in Varanasi.

Karnan will be made as a multilingual made in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi languages.
Tamil version of the script is written by famous writer Jeyamohan. The movie will not be simply dubbed in other languages, but shoot will happen separately.

According to latest reports, Mohanlal and Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan will be teaming up for a big budget 3D movie directed by popular ad filmmaker Sreekumar. The movie is titled as Odiyan.

Manju Warrier will be playing the female lead opposite Mohanlal in this movie. The two last acted together in Sathyan Anthikad’s Ennum Eppozhum. The movie was a moderate success in the box office.

Veteran actor Prakash Raj is also playing an important role in the movie alongside Mohanlal and Amitabh Bachchan. According to myth, Odiyan is named after a man who is mastered in odividya, a black magic trick to tackle the enemies. The film is written by Harikrishnan.

Amitabh Bachchan and Mohanlal have earlier acted together in Ram Gopal Varma’s Aag and Kandahar directed by Major Ravi. Amitabh Bachchan made his debut in Mollywood through Kanadhar in 2010.

Reports are also doing the rounds about Amitabh Bachchan, Manju Warrier and many other leading actors from the country starring in Mohanlal’s upcoming epic drama Randamoozham written by MT Vasudevan Nair. The movie based on the Mahabaratha war is being planned as a multilingual movie with a production cost of 600 crores.

According to reports, Odiyan will be a big budget fantasy entertainer made in 3D format. More details regarding the movie is not yet known.

Earlier there were reports about scriptwriter Udhayakrishna directing a movie with Mammootty and Mohanlal in the lead. However, we now hear that chances of the movie happening is still uncertain.

Recently, Udhayakrishna in an interview said that he had plans to direct a movie with Mammootty and Mohanlal in the lead. According to him, Mammootty had agreed to produce the movie. The script was completed but the project could not take off. Mohanlal had not heard the script back then, but recently he heard it and liked it very much. He even agreed to do the movie but now Mammootty is not interested to produce the movie. Udhayakrishna added that, the chances of the movie happening is still uncertain and that he is keeping silent as he knows the risks involved in directing a movie.

If at all this movie happens, it will certainly create new records in the Mollywood box office. The Big M’s have previously acted together in 55 movies before. Some of their movies like Harikrishnan, No.20 Madras Mail, Vartha, Adiyozhukukal were huge blockbusters. Last time the two were seen sharing screen space was in Kadal Kadannoru Mathukutty where Mohanlal played himself in a guest appearance.

Udhayakrishna is currently on a high with the massive success of Pulimurugan. The movie is now the highest grosser in Malayalam cinema with a collection of around 130 crores and still continuing its glorious run. He is next scripting two Mammootty starrers, Vyskah’s Raja 2 and an untitled mass entertainer directed by Rajadhiraja fame Ajai Vasudev.
