Mohanlal about Pranav Mohanlal’s perspectives about spirituality

Star kids following their father’s footsteps and entering the world of movies is a very common thing from the past itself. The trend has been prevalent in industries like Bollywood from the 70s period itself. Mollywood is also moving in the same direction with many star kids like Dulquer Salmaan, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Kalidas Jayaram, Gokul Suresh, Fahadh Faasil, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Indrajith Sukumaran making their way to movies.

Superstar Mohanlal’s son Pranav Mohanlal is the latest to the list. Though he has acted as a child artist, he stayed away from movies for a long time before he returned back to work as an assistant director with Jeethu Joseph. His debut movie as a lead actor will also be directed by Jeethu Joseph.

Pranav Mohanlal is known for maintaining a low-profile lifestyle. He has always stayed away from the limelight. Recently, Mohanlal talked about his son’s various perspectives and views on spirituality. He said, “Our spiritual life is a vast subject. I think it’s about believing in your own philosophy and adopting that in your life. That’s what I do. I was brought up in a family where the women went to the temple in the morning. Consequently I too wish to do the same but if I am not able to, I am fine with that too. I have always been a spiritual person.

My son, Pranav has not seen me waking up in the morning and going to a temple. He studied in a Christian residential school that had students from 23 different countries. So mostly his thoughts could have been shaped by the Western philosophy. So, I can’t tell him that he has to wake up in the morning, take a bath and go to a temple. I don’t do that.

He graduated in philosophy, and so he has developed his own philosophy of life. He reads a lot of books and so I can’t go and tell him that he has to pray to a deity. He won’t understand that. He would ask me what the deity represents and what happens if he prays to one? That would result in a debate and I don’t know much to convince him. Even if I do, I don’t think he would understand.”

Pranav Mohanlal’s debut movie directed by Jeethu Joseph will be an action thriller. He is reportedly learning Parkour, a kind of training in running, climbing, jumping, swinging etc, for playing the part perfectly.

Our next movie should be a historic hit in the Box office no matter how long it takes : Mammootty to Vysakh

Director Vysakh recently announced his next movie with Megastar Mammootty in the lead. The movie titled as Raja 2 will have Mammootty reprising the character Raja from the 2010 blockbuster Pokkiriraja. Vysakh is currently the hot favourite among the directors after delivering the epic blockbuster Pulimurugan.

In a recent interview the director revealed more information about the movie. He said that Mammootty had told him that their next movie should be a historic hit in the box office no matter how long it takes.

He said, “It was a long 7 years wait to come up with something of that sort. Raja 2 will not be a sequel to Pokkiriraja, only the character is taken forward to the next part. The story, backdrop and the setting will be entirely different from Pokkiriraja. The current audience taste is not the same as in 2010, so Raja 2 will be a more racy and technically advanced movie. The movie will be an action packed entertainer that can be enjoyed by the fans, kids and the families. It will have all the elements that the audience usually expect for in a Mammootty movie, a complete package with action, humour and family drama.”

Vysakh made his directorial debut through Pokkiriraja in 2010. Raja 2 is written by Udhayakrishna who also wrote the script for Pokkiriraja along with Sibi K Thomas. The movie will go on floors within the next few months.

Only Mohanlal can give epic blockbusters like Drishyam and Pulimurugan : Jeethu Joseph

Mollywood has been witnessing Mohanlal’s dominance in the box office for over three decades now. Mohanlal has made it a a habit to deliver a massive blockbuster after giving a string of underwhelming movies. Recent example being the epic successes of Oppam Pulimurugan after a disappointing two years post Drishyam. In this two years(2014-2015) Mohanlal was part of seven movies, but none could do any justice to his acting abilities.

But come 2016 and Mohanlal was in all together in a different league. After the critically acclaimed Manamantha, he teamed up with Jr NTR to give Janatha Garage, one of the biggest blockbusters ever in Telugu cinema. Through Oppam and Pulimurugan he once again proved his authority in the box office. While Oppam grossed over 50 crores, Pulimurugan became the first ever Malayalam movie to enter the 100 crore club.

Recently in an interview, director Jeethu Joseph with whom Mohanlal teamed up for the blockbuster Drishyam, emphasized the fact once again. He said that only Mohanlal could give such massive blockbusters like Drishyam and Pulimurugan. He added that Drishyam would have been a hit even if he had done the movie with any other actor. But only Mohanlal had the ability to generate such epic business. Drishyam was the biggest grosser in Malayalam cinema till Pulimurugan overpowered it recently.

This year Jeethu Joseph will be directing the superstar’s son Pranav Mohanlal’s debut movie as a lead actor. Touted to be an action thriller, this yet to be titled movie is being produced by Mohanlal under his home production banner Aashirvad Cinemas.

Sethu said, “Unni Mukundan had asked me to join as an assistant director whenever I did a movie. When I asked Mammootty, he was alright with it. His only concern was about Unni’s acting commitments. But he has adjusted his dates to work in Mammootty’s movie. Right from the days of Mallu Singh, Unni is like a brother to me. I would like to cast him in all my movies.” The actor has earlier co-starred with Mammootty in Bombay March 12 and Rajadhiraja.

Unni Mukundan is currently shooting for Achayans also written by Sethu. The movie directed by Kannan Thamarakkulam is a big budget multistarrer also featuring Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Adil Ibrahim, Amala Paul and Sanju Sivaram in major roles. Mohanlal is slowing down on the number of movies

Mohanlal is entering his 37th year in the film industry this year. Starting with Fazil’s Manjil Virinja Pookkal back in 1980 to Pulimurugan in 2016, Mohanlal has seen all the ups and downs of the field. He has hit rock bottom several times and has successfully risen back from failures. The actor is now slowing down on the number of movies.

We can clearly see the pattern – he did five movies in 2013, four (including Tamil movie Jilla) in 2014, four in 2015 and only two Malayalam movies in 2016. Mohanlal’s decision to reduce the number of movies has paid off because both his Malayalam movies last year, Oppam and Pulimurugan, were massive blockbusters. Apart from that Mohanlal is now open to other language movies also. Both his Telugu releases in 2016, Manamantha and Janatha Garage became successes with Janatha Garage grossing more than 100 crores from the box office.

In a recent interview, Mohanlal himself admitted that he will be slowing down after all these years in industry. He said “I might be slowing down in a couple of years. And may be later I might even call it a day. There are other things I can do like travelling, reading books etc. Those are decisions I would have to make later. I am completely fine if I don’t act. I love to take some holidays. In fact, I am a guy who wants to take a break for at least 10 days after each movie. But often that doesn’t happen because of the busy schedules that often get pushed. I have not lived for myself, so I am now trying to find time for that.”

The actor is currently on a vacation with his family. After coming back, he will be joining the second schedule of Major Ravi’s upcoming war movie 1971 Beyond Borders based on the 1971 war between India and Pakistan. He is also playing the lead role of an ex-cop in B Unnikrishnan’s untitled big budget project. Recently, Pulimurugan director Vysakh also announced his upcoming movie with Mohanlal which will be produced by his home production banner Aashirvad Cinemas.
