Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay is now busy in finishing up his works in the upcoming movie named Bairavaa, which is directing by Bharathan. It will be a next year Pongal release of Vijay and Keerthy Suresh is playing the lead in it.

There are reports that Vijay is playing dual role in this movie as well. After this film, Vijay will do the film directed by Atlee, who had given him Theri this year, which is the biggest hit in his career till now.

Reports says that Thenandel Films will produce this movie as well. Now, a news is coming in that Anushka Shetty, who was roped in to play the female lead in this movie, has been opted out from the project.

Reports says that Nayanthara may play the female lead in the movie along with Kajal Agarwal who is also roped in to play an important character.

The film has two heroines in it. Earlier it was reported that Kajal Agarwal and Sai Pallavi may play the female leads in it. Then came Anushka Shetty replacing Sai Pallavi, in reports.

Now Anushka is been replaced by Nayanthara, by media and we have to wait till the official announcement to know who really going to play the female lead in this movie. Reports says that Anushka Shetty opted out because of Bahubali 2, which is still in its filming stage.

Now, a report is coming in that Mohanlal’s distribution company named Maxlab Cinemas, which is the biggest distributing company in Mollywood, is all set to distribute Bollywood biggie named Kaabil starred by Hrithik Roshan.

Reports says that Maxlab had bought the distribution rights of Kaabil and the film will hit the screens all over on 26th January 2017. Antony Perumbavoor is the co-owner of Maxlab.

Earlier this year, Mohanlal’s Maxlab had purchased the distribution rights of Rajinikanth starrer Kabali in Kerala for a record amount of 7.5 crore rupees.

With great marketing skills, Maxlab had earned profit as well from here as Kabali had earned more than 16 crores from Kerala.

Kabali had got 306 screens here under the distribution of Maxlab and this is a record here in Kerala.

In Kaabil, Hrithik Roshen is playing a blind character and Yami Gautham is the female lead in it. Sanjay Guptha had directed this movie and its trailer which released two days back got great response from the viewers.

Young Star Nivin Pauly, who had already given two super successes in box office this year, will not have any release this year in Mollywood.

He was busy with the shoot of his Tamil film by Gautham Ramchandran and now working in two Malayalam movies. One is Sidharth Siva directorial movie named Sakhavu and another is Althaf directorial flick Njandukalude Naattil Oridavela.

Reports says that Nivin Pualy’s next release will be Sakhavu, which will hit the screens on the 23rd of March next year.

If the report is true, then there will be a great box office fight between Nivin Pauly and Dulquer Salmaan. Because Dulquer Salmaan’s movie directed by Amal Neerad has been reportedly fixed the same date for its release.

The Amal Neerad directorial movie of Dulquer is not yet titled and the filming of its final schedule will begin shortly.

Dulquer Salmaan also had two hits this year and they are Kali and Kammattipadam. He will have a Christmas release this year named Jomonte Suvisheshangal, directed by Sathyan Anthikkad. It will hit the screens on the 22nd of December this year.

Seems like there is no stopping Pulimurugan. The movie is continuing its amazing run and is creating new records everyday.

Recently Pulimurugan became the first Malayalam movie to collect 50 crores from Kerala Box Office alone. This is a phenomenal record, considering the number of theatres in Kerala.

Pulimurugan has collected 50.1 crores from Kerala in a span of 21 days. This Mohanlal starrer has been breaking every single pre existing box office record in Mollywood ever since its release on October 7th.

Even after three weeks of its release, families are still flocking theatres in large numbers. Almost all the weekend shows in Kerala are houseful.

The movie is still continuing its strong hold even after many new releases have graced the theatres. Malayalam cinema is witnessing history here with Pulimurugan.

Kochi multiplex collections have already gone past 2.50 crores. Pulimurugan is releasing overseas on November 4. The movie is having record release in European countries and GCC.

In Europe alone, Pulimurugan is releasing in more than 100 theatres. It will be released in countries like Germany, Poland, Austria, Britain, Switzerland, Italy etc.

Pulimurugan is expected to touch the 100 crore mark any time soon. Audio, overseas and satellite rights itself amounted to over 15 crores.

Apart from all the collections, Pulimurugan has shown that big budget movies are viable in Mollywood and commercial benefits can be reaped with a quality movie.

Another biopic is coming to grace the silver screens and this time it will be from Mollywood. We saw many biopics of sports persons like Pele, MS Dhoni etc from Hollywood and Bollywood this year.

Now, one such film is coming next year from Mollywood as well and it will be based on the life of legendary footballer from Kerala, VP Sathyan.

VP Sathyan died 10 years ago and this movie will be a tribute to him. The film has been titled as Captain and young actor Jayasurya will play the character of VP Sathyan in it.

Debutant Prajesh Sen will direct this movie and he had written it. Prajesh was the assistant director of master film maker Siddique earlier.

He had earlier produced movies like Kasaba with Mammootty and Aan Maria Kalippilanu with Sunny Wayne.

VP Sathyan was the Captain of Indian National football team and he was a player who played at the center back position for his team. He committed suicide in 2006, by jumping out from a train.

Pulimurugan, the biggest hit ever graced Mollywood is now creating milestones in overseas market. The film is doing great in USA, where it had completed one week run now. It had released there in 30+ screens.

From its first week run there, it had grossed over 1 crore and it is a stunning collection for a Malayalam movie there.

From 23 screens there, collection is reported and from 23 screens, the film had earned around 115K dollars. That means it earned more than 77 lakhs from its first week from reported screens.

If we consider the unreported screens, then the actual figure earned by the film from there in its first week is 160K and that means it had got more than 1 crore Indian rupee from there in its first week. It is an amazing new record set by the film there.

Premam is the highest grossing Malayalam movie from USA, as it had grossed around 253K from its lifetime run there.

Pulimurugan had already reached 160K from its first week and now it is almost sure that it will break Premam collection and set a new all-time record in USA box office for Malayalam cinema.

Two countries had earned 190k+ and Drishyam earned 176K from there and they are at the second and third position respectively.

Pulimurugan has been creating records ever since its release on October 7th. The movie has set the cash registers ringing like never before for a Mollywood movie.

Now the movie has set a new record in the Kochi multiplex collections. Pulimurugan has grossed an amount of 2 crores and 39 lakhs from 19 days. Mohanlal’s Oppam stands next with a collection of 1.89 crores from 48 days of its run.

Latest youngsters movie Aanandam has had a good run in the multiplexes of Kochi. The movie has collected 34.11 lakhs from its 5 day run. This is considered to be a remarkable achievement for a movie starring newcomers. Theatre owners inform that Aanandam will most probably end up as a super hit in the box office.

Mammootty starrer Thoppil Joppan has grossed 69.88 lakhs from 19 days of its run in Kochi multiplexes.

Pulimurugan right now is running with more shows than the release day. On Monday, the 18th day of its release, Pulimurugan had 41 shows in the multiplexes. Another 10 shows were run in other theatres in city and around Kochi. That makes it a total of 51 shows on Monday.

Pulimurugan had 47 shows in Kochi on the release date. On Sunday the movie grossed more than its release day collections.

Pulimurugan’s first day collections from Kochi multiplexes amounted to Rs 15,02,230. 98% of the tickets were sold on the first day. But this Sunday witnessed an even bigger crowd and the movie grossed 16.04 lakhs from the multiplexes. 96% of the tickets were sold.

It is phenomenal that a movie is collecting huge amounts even after two weeks of its release.

During the first few days, most of the audience were youths who thronged the theatres to see their matinee idol’s terrific performance on screen. But after the 2nd week, 50% of the crowd who visit the theatres are families.

Pulimurugan has completed 350 shows from 17 days of its run in Kochi multiplexes.

Karan Johar’s latest outing is another story about the rich and glamorous people and how they deal with love, friendship and life. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has a stellar star cast in Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Anushka Sharma and popular Pakistani actor Fawad Khan.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is a product of age old storyline, borrowed sequences and lots of music camouflaged in a typical Karan Johar package. There is parties, songs and picturesque locations of Paris, Vienna and London.

Ranbir Kapoor as Ayan, the filthy rich wannabe singer has delivered a terrific performance. He oozes pain, crumbles, cries and is lively. He is the USP of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

Anushka Sharma plays Alizeh who is in love with Ali, played by Fawad Khan. She is outgoing and full of life. The realistic chemistry between Alizeh and Ayan is what is shown in the first half.

In the later half, we are introduced to Saba, a happily divorced woman who is in look for a love. The gorgeous Aishwarya Rai Bachchan sparks the scenes with her looks. But she did not have much of a screen space just like Fawad Khan.

The performance of all the lead artists are commendable and they hold together the movie. There are some interesting cameos, songs and all that we get to see in a Karan Johar movie.

The way the plot moves forward seems very outdated and not engaging. It becomes too predictable after a particular point of time.

If the director had invested more time in the writing portions and tried to infuse some freshness to the plot, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil would have been a much better product.

There has been whole lot of speculations regarding Mammootty’s epic historic movie Karnan. There were reports about Karnan being dropped by Mammootty to avoid an unnecessary clash with Prithviraj who is also doing a movie based on the life of Karnan.

But writer/actor P Sreekumar who is the scriptwriter of Mammootty’s Karnan later clarified that the project is indeed on and the scripting works are being finalized.

Mammootty’s Karnan will be made on a bigger budget than Pulimurugan. Pulimurugan was made on a budget of 25 crores. The movie was produced by Tomichan Mulakupadam under his banner Mulakupadam films.

The latest we hear from trustworthy sources is that Mammootty’s Karnan will be made on a budget of around 60-70 crores. Considering Malayalam cinema, this amount is a very big budget.

As of now, Pazhassiraja is the most expensive made in Mollywood with a budget of Rs 27 crores.

Jayaraj’s epic drama movie Veeram that is gearing up for release is said to be made on a budget of 35 crores. So upon release Veeram will be the most expensive made in Malayalam.

Prithviraj’s Karnan will be made on a whopping budget of 300 crores. If it is true, Karnan will be among the most expensive movies ever made in Indian cinema.

Of late, there are many big budget projects being planned in Malayalam. Chengazhi Nambiyar will be made on an estimated budget of 100 crores. Other movies are alos planned like Prithviraj’s Kunchirakottu Kali, Syamanthakam etc.

Mammootty’s Karnan will have an extensive pre-production period once the scripting is over. National award winning filmmaker Madhupal will be directing this movie.

Aanandam is the latest movie in Mollywood that has been ruling hearts of Malayali youngsters.

Directed by debutant Ganesh Raj, Aanandam is a youthful movie on a group of students who are on a college tour as part of their Industrial Visit.

Aanandam has been getting great response from the critics and the common audience. The youthfulness and the freshness the movie carries has helped the movie a great deal.

Seven newcomers are playing the lead roles in the movie. All of them have done a wonderful job and have been receiving appreciation for their performance.

Aanandam is its entering second week of theatrical run. Already due to the good overall response, number of shows in many theatres were increased. Now the number of theatres playing Aanandam have also been updated.
