Thaman signed as the music director for Thalapathy 66

For a while now there have been speculations about S Thaman composing music for an upcoming Vijay film. Last day, it got confirmed that Thaman will be scoring music for Vijay’s next helmed by Telugu filmmaker Vamshi Paidipally. Tentatively titled ‘Thalapathy 66’, the film is produced by Dil Raju and Shirish are producing the film under the banner of Sri Venkateswara Creations.

Thaman is a hugely popular music director in Telugu film industry. His recent works include ‘Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo’, ‘Bheemla Nayak’, ‘Vakeel Saab’ and ‘Radhe Shyam’ (background score). He is also the composer for upcoming biggies like ‘Ghani’, ‘RC 15’, ‘Sarakaru Vaari Paata’, and ‘Godfather’. Expectations will be huge when Thaman scores music for Vijay.

‘Thalapathy 66’ is expected to go on floors soon. Rashmika Mandanna has been signed as the female lead. More announcements are expected to be made in the coming days. The makers are apparently planning to release the film for this year’s December.

CBI 5: The Brain teaser out; Mammootty is back as Sethurama Iyer

As announced earlier, the teaser of ‘CBI 5: The Brain’ got released last evening. The teaser begins with a voiceover of Mammootty’s character CBI officer Sethurama Iyer prodding over the common element, a common enemy or an external agency in the assassinations of Indira Gandhi, Sanjay Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. The star is then introduced with the iconic CBI theme music.

The fifth installment of ‘CBI’ series marks the reunion of Mammootty with script writer SN Swamy and director K Madhu. Along with Mammootty, actors Mukesh and Sai Kumar are also reprising their characters, Chacko and Sathyadas, respectively. Jagathy Sreekumar has also made a cameo appearance.

Anoop Menon, Dileesh Pothan, Renji Panicker, Soubin Shahir, Asha Sarath, Ramesh Pisharody, Sudev Nair, Anna Reshma Rajan, Malavika Nair, Swasika, Ansiba Hassan, Kottayam Ramesh and many others are part of the supporting cast. On the technical front, Jakez Bejoy is the music director and Akhil George is the DOP.

Swargachitra Appachan is producing the film. The makers are expected to announce the release date soon.

Here’s Rashmika first look from Dulquer Salmaan’s next

We had earlier reported about Dulquer Salmaan starring in a new multilingual film directed by Telugu filmmaker Hanu Raghavapudi of ‘Padi Padi Leche Manasu’ fame. Touted to be a period love story, the film has Dulquer as an army officer named Lieutenant Ram. It was earlier announced that Mrunal Thakur will be playing Dulquer’s pair in the film.

Last day, the makers unveiled a new poster featuring Rashmika Mandanna. The actress is playing a character named Afreen. The poster has her in an intense look sporting a hijab. It seems to be different from the usual bubbly, girl-next-door roles that she usually does.

Swapna Cinema is producing the yet-to-be titled film and Priyanka Dutt of Vyjayanthi Movies will be presenting it. It has music scored by Vishal Chandrashekhar and cinematography by PS Vinod. The makers are yet to announce yet anything regarding the release plans.

Vijay’s next with Telugu filmmaker Vamshi Paidipally went on floors on Wednesday. Tentatively titled ‘Thalapathy 66’, the film is produced by Dil Raju and Shirish under the banner of Sri Venkateswara Creations. The project got launched in Chennai with a customary pooja ceremony.

The film stars Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead. Veteran actor Sarath Kumar is also playing a prominent role. S Thaman will be scoring music for the film. Many of the team members attended the pooja ceremony. Candid photos of Vijay and Rashmika are already trending in social medias.

‘Thalapathy 66’ is said to be a Tamil-Telugu bilingual. The makers are yet to reveal details anything regarding the plot or the film’s genre. Director Vamshi Paidipally is known for helming mainstream films like ‘Brindavanam’, ‘Yevadu’ and ‘Oopiri’ (‘Thozha’, in Tamil). His last film ‘Maharshi’ starring Mahesh Babu was a huge commercial success. The film also won the National award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.

Shah Rukh Khan wishes Vijay and Beast team

Expectations for Vijay’s ‘Beast’ are growing tremendously as we get closer go to the release date, April 13. Starring Vijay as a spy agent, the film is an action-packed invasion thriller directed by Nelson. Planned as a pan-Indian release, the film will be out in Telugu, Hindi and Kannada as well.

Last day, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan shared the trailer of the Hindi version, ‘Raw’, in his social media handle. Apparently, he tweeted it while watching the trailer along with Tamil filmmaker Atlee, with whom he is currently working for a new project. The tweet reads,

Sitting with @Atlee_dir who is as big a fan of @actorvijay as I am. Wishing the best for beast to the whole team…trailer looks meaner…. Leaner… stronger!!

Atlee’s upcoming film with Shah Rukh Khan is currently on a schedule break as the actor had to wrap up the shoot of ‘Pathaan’. Atlee’s film, billed as a mass entertainer, also stars Nayanthara, Priya Mani and Sanya Malhotra.

Unni Mukundan-Samantha starrer Yashoda’s release date announced

We had recently reported about Samantha signing a new Telugu film titled ‘Yashoda’. Directed by Hari and Harish, the film also stars Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar in main roles. It has been announced that the film will be hitting screens on August 12.

‘Yashoda’ is said to be a female-centric film in which Samantha plays the titular role. Billed as a science-fiction thriller, the film’s cast also includes Rao Ramesh, Murali Sharma, Sampath Raj, Shatru, Madhurima, Kalpika Ganesh, Divya Sripada, and Priyanka Sharma among others.

The film is produced by Sivalenka Krishna Prasad under the banner of Sridevi Movies. It is planned as a pan-Indian film with release in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi languages. Mani Sharma has been assigned as the music composer and M Sukumar is handling the camera.

Rashmika, one of the busiest actors in the South, is acting alongside Vijay for the first time and their chemistry will be something exciting to look forward to. In the South, the actress has Pushpa: The Rule, and the upcoming Dulquer Salmaan-Hanu Raghavapudi film coming up. She is also doing a couple of Hindi films, Mission Majnu, alongside Siddharth Malhotra, and Goodbye with Amitabh Bachchan.

CBI 5: The Brain teaser to be out today

The makers of ‘CBI 5: The Brain’ have announced that the film’s teaser will be out today (April 6) at 5 PM. The film marks the reunion of Mammootty with script writer SN Swamy and director K Madhu. It has Mammootty reprising the iconic role of CBI officer Sethurama Iyer.

Rashmika Mandanna to star opposite Ranbir Kapoor in Animal

Rashmika Mandanna has been signed to play the female lead in Ranbir Kapoor’s next titled ‘Animal’. Sandeep Vanga Reddy of ‘Arjun Reddy’ fame is directing the film. Touted to be a crime drama, the film also stars veterans Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol in prominent roles.

‘Animal’ has had high expectations right from the time of its announcement. The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar’s T-Series, Murad Khetani’s Cine1 Studios and Pranay Reddy Vanga’s Bhadrakali Pictures. It is expected to go on floors this month, after Ranbir wraps up the shoot of his ongoing film with Luv Ranjan.

‘Animal’ is Rashmika’s third Hindi outing. She is making her Bollywood debut with ‘Mission Majnu’, in which she shares screen space with Sidharth Malhotra. Rashmika will also be seen alongside Amitabh Bachchan in the upcoming Vikas Bahl directorial, ‘Goodbye’.

Down South, the actress has ‘Pushpa: The Rule’, the sequel to the blockbuster ‘Pushpa: The Rise’ coming up.

Taanakkaran trailer out; Vikram Prabhu starrer looks highly promising

Vikram Prabhu’s new film ‘Taanakkaran’ is set to have a direct digital release on Disney + Hotstar. The film will be premiering on April 8. Meanwhile, the makers have shared its trailer online. From the trailer, it is learnt that the film is about the struggles faced by trainees in a police training academy. It gives us a glimpse of the kind of hard work and effort that goes into training to become a cop.

The film is written and directed by Tamizh, who has earlier done notable roles in films like ‘Jai Bhim’ and ‘Asuran’. Interestingly, the director himself is a former cop and the film is based on his real-life experiences.

Veteran Malayalam actor Lal, who delivered a powerful performance last year in ‘Karnan’, is playing a prominent role in this film as well. Anjali Nair, Bose Venkat, Madhusudhan Rao, Paval Navageethan and MS Bhaskar will also be seen in major roles. Almost 95% of the artistes in the film are retired army personnel and cops as the makers were keen on showing the training and parade routine with authenticity.

‘Taanakkaran’ is produced jointly by SR Prakash Babu, SR Prabhu, P Gobinath and Thanga Prabaharan R under the banner of Potential Studios LLP. Madhesh Manickam is the cinematographer and music is composed by Ghibran. Philomin Raj is handling the edits.
