Dhanush-starrer ‘Jagame Thandhiram’ is gearing up for a direct Netflix release on June 18. The film directed by Karthik Subbaraj has high expectations among many. Malayali audience are also eagerly looking forward to the film as it has Aishwarya Lekshmi and Joju George in prominent roles. The latter is making his Tamil debut with this film. Going by the trailer, he seems to be playing the role of a gangster in it.

In a recent interview, director Karthik Subbaraj revealed how he picked Joju for this particular role. Initially, the makers had thought of many other actors who could play the part. SJ Suryah was approached and talks were also initiated, but it could not materialize due to his busy schedule. Karthik then happened to watch Joju’s Malayalam films ‘Chola’ and ‘Joseph’. After being impressed by his performances in it, Joju was called a brief audition and he finally bagged the role.

According to Karthik, Joju is a dedicated and brilliant performer who is also a fun person to be around with. In the interview, the director also mentioned about Joju’s struggles in cinema and how he made it big after starting his career as a junior artist. It is worth a mention here that Karthik is presenting Joju’s award-winning film ‘Chola’ in Tamil as ‘Alli’.

Pre-production works for ‘CBI 5’ is currently progressing. The makers are busy finalizing the cast and crew. While Mammootty reprises the lead role of CBI officer Sethurama Iyer, actors like Asha Sarath, Soubin Shahir, Mukesh, Sai Kumar and Renji Panicker are also confirmed in the cast.

On the technical front, Jakes Bejoy has been signed as the composer. The latest to wear hear is that camera will be cranked by Akhil George. He is best known for his works in films like ‘Kala’, ‘Iblis’ and ‘Forensic’. This will be Akhil’s second film with Mammootty after the recently released, ‘The Priest’. Critics had heaped praised on his work in the film.

‘CBI 5’ marks the reunion of the trio of Mammootty, script writer SN Swamy and director K Madhu. Veteran Swargachitra Appachan is making a comeback after a long gap by producing the film. The makers are planning to launch the film in August, on the auspicious day of Chingam 1.

Mammootty’s hit film ‘The Priest’ is all set to have its world television premiere. Asianet has bagged the satellite rights and the film will be telecast today (June 4) at 7 PM. For the last few days, the broadcasters have been doing great publicity, which includes frequent ads with actors like Manju Warrier appearing in it. They have also given a newspaper advertisement on the front page of a leading daily today. It is evident that the channel is trying to reach out to maximum people and ensure that the film gets a high TRP. Moreover, it is a Friday night and most people are already confined to their homes due to the lockdown. So the film is expected to break into the top 5 in the TRP ratings of Malayalam films.

Directed by debutant Jofin T Chacko, ‘The Priest’ is a mystery thriller with supernatural elements in it. Mammootty plays the titular role in the film. ‘Kaithi’ fame Baby Monica, Nikhila Vimal and Manju Warrier essay other important roles. Jofin himself has written the film’s story and screenplay is penned by Deepu Pradeep and Shyam Menon.

‘The Priest’ is jointly produced by Anto Joseph, B Unnikrishnan and VN Babu. The film had a successful theatrical run and is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

We had earlier reported about ‘Kettyolaanu Ente Malaakha’ director Nissam Basheer holding talks with Mammootty for his next. It seems like the project is finally materialising. The latest we hear is that the megastar himself will be producing the film.

Nissam Basheer’s directorial debut ‘Kettyolaanu Ente Malakha’ was a commercially successful film that dealt with the highly relevant theme of marital rape. Though the film had some polarising views, it was well received by the majority. It was also selected in the Indian Panorama section at the 51st Indian Film Festival, Goa.

Needless to say, expectations will be high on Nissam’s next with Mammootty. It will be very interesting to see what genre the young filmmaker attempts to make with Mammootty. The film is reportedly scripted by Sameer Abdul, who has earlier penned the Asif Ali starrers ‘Ibilis’ and ‘Adventures of Omanakuttan’.

If things turn out as per plans, shoot is expected to begin by this year-end or early next year.

After topping the list of Kochi Times Most Desirable Men for the year 2020, Malayalam actor Dulquer Salmaan has secured the second position in the Chennai Times edition. It is once again a proof of the star’s ever-growing popularity across the country. Of late, he has been fast establishing himself as a pan-Indian actor with projects lined up in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.

‘Pyaar Prema Kadhal’ actor Harish Kalyan has been chosen as the Chennai Times Most Desirable Man. Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran’s banner Prithviraj Productions has bagged the Malayalam distribution rights of Kannada star Rakshit Shetty’s upcoming film ‘Charlie 777’. Directed by debutant Kiranraj K, it is a highly anticipated film among cinephiles. Prithviraj also seems to in awe of the film. He announced about acquiring the rights with a social media post which reads,

A pup named Charlie who is naughty and energetic which is a complete contrast with Dharma’s character enters his life and gives him a new perspective towards it.

‘Charlie 777’ also stars Bobby Simha, Sangeetha Sringeri, Raj B Shetty and Danish Sait. Apart from the original Kannada and dubbed Malayalam version, it will be releasing in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi languages as well.

Operation Java garners praise from several big names in Malayalam film industry!

‘Operation Java’ is easily one of the most talked about Malayalam films in recent years. When the pandemic first wave subdued, the film had its theatrical release in February. Hitting screens amidst minimal expectations, the film took many by surprise as the reviews were unanimously positive. Eventually, it managed to emerge as a sleeper hit at the box office.

The response became even better after the OTT release. After a successful theatrical run of around 75 days, the film had its OTT release through Zee5 platform. Besides the common audience, several people from within the industry also came out praising the film. Mammootty, Suresh Gopi, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Kunchacko Boban, Fahadh Fassil Rosshan Andrrews, Sathyan Anthikad, Midhun Manuel Thomas, Anoop Menon, Manju Warrier and Aju Varghese were some of them who lauded the film and the young team behind it.

‘Operation Java’ is written and directed by debutant Tharun Moorthy. It is a thrilling police procedural film based on cyber crimes. The narrative is centred around two engineering graduates who join the Kochi cyber cell department on temporary basis and help them crack a few cases. Balu Varghese and Lukman play the two lead roles. Apart from being a thriller that deals with various types of cyber crimes, the film also addresses an important issue about unemployment.

Binu Pappu, Vinayakan, Irshad, Shine Tom Chacko, Alexander Prashanth, Dhanya Ananya, Mamitha Baiju and Vineetha Koshy also star in it. Cinematographer Faiz Siddik, music director Jakes Bejoy and editor Nishad Yousef comprise the core technical crew.
The makers have announced a second part and they have already started works for the same.

Vineeth Sreenivasan reveals that Hridayam has a total of 15 songs!

Vineeth Sreenivasan’s upcoming directorial ‘Hridayam’ is an eagerly awaited film. Starring Pranav Mohanlal, Kalyani Priyadarshan and Darshana Rajendran as the leads, the film is expected to be a youthful entertainer. Shoot is almost complete with only a very portions left.

‘Hridayam’ promises to be a musically rich film. Vineeth Sreenivasan has revealed that the film has a total of 15 songs. Last day, he posted a brief note in his Facebook page saying that he is impatiently waiting to release the songs. He has written,

I was looking at the final track list of Hridayam.. We have 15 songs in the film.. And I can’t wait for them to come out..
Go corona Gooooooooooooo!!!!! (sic)

‘Hridayam’ has its music composed by Hesham Abdul Wahab. It is the first time Vineeth Sreenivasan is teaming up with someone other than Shaan Rahman. This new combination certainly will have high expectations. Prior to the commencement of shoot, Vineeth and Hesham had travelled to Istanbul to record live instruments. Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran has also lent his voice for a song in the film.

‘Hridayam’ is said to be a coming-of-age film about a group of individuals and their life journey. Vineeth has taken real-life inspirations to script this film. Aju Varghese, Vijayaraghavan, Arun Kurian and several newcomers are part of the cast.
