Kalidas Jayaram, Reba Monica John and Namitha Pramod team up for a new film

Kalidas Jayaram, Reba Monica John and Namitha Pramod are coming together for a new film to be directed by debutant Vinil Varghese. This yet-to-be titled film got launched last day in Kochi and shoot has also begun. It is produced by a new production house named Navarasa Films.

Interestingly, this same project was first launched last year in February with Kalidas, Miya George and newcomer Riya as the leads. Jayaram, Lal Jose and many others had even attended its pooja event held at 3 Dots Studio in Kochi. They were planning to begin shoot by mid-March but it got dropped with the onset of the pandemic. Now after a year, the project has been revived with some replacements in the cast and crew.

Director Vinil Varghese himself has written the story and screenplay. Dialogues are penned by Vincent Vadakkan of ‘Trance’ fame. The film is being produced by Sreejith KS and Blessy Sreejith under the banner of Navarasa Films. Popular Tamil music director Ghibran was initially signed as the music director. It is not yet sure if he is still part of the project.

Malik will make a mark in the history of Malayalam cinema: Vinay Forrt

Fahadh Faasil starrer ‘Malik’ is getting ready for release on May 13. The film’s trailer will be out today (March 25) evening. Expectations are huge, not just among cinephiles but within the industry insiders as well. Fahadh Faasil plays the titular role in the film, which is inspired from some real life incidents that occurred few years back in Kerala.

Vinay Forrt plays a crucial character named David Kristhudas. In a recent interview, the actor lavished praised on the film and his character in it. He said that Malayalam cinema will be marked as before ‘Malik’ and after ‘Malik’. He also added that David is the best character in his whole career. It is a grey shaded role and the actor reiterated that it is very different from what he has done before. Since the story goes through various timelines, Vinay Forrt along with Fahadh Faasil will be seen in looks ranging from their mid 20s to 50s.

‘Malik’ is set in a sensitive coastal area where there was a resistance against this constant threat of displacement of a minority community. Fahadh Faasil plays the lead character of Sulaiman Malik who was like a leader of the community. The supporting cast also includes Nimisha Sajayan, Dileesh Pothan, Indrans, Sudhi Koppa, Chandhunath, yesteryear actress Jalaja and Maala Parvathy among others.

Anugraheethan Antony finally set to hit screens; Here’s the release date

Sunny Wayne starrer ‘Anugraheethan Antony’ has been under the wraps for a long time now. The film’s release got delayed multiple times due to various reasons. Finally, it has been confirmed that the film will be hitting screens on April 1.

‘Anugraheethan Antony’ is directed by debutant Prince Joy and scripted by Naveen T Manilal. Jishnu R Nair and Aswin Prakash have penned the story. Sunny and ’96’ fame Gouri Kishan play the lead roles in the film. From the promos, it promises to be a rom-com entertainer. The romantic song, ‘Kamini’, from the film is highly popular among the masses.

‘Anugraheethan Antony’ also has Siddique, Indrans, Jaffer Idukki, Manikandan Achari, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Baiju and Muthumani as part of the supporting cast. On the technical front, Selvakumar is the cinematographer and Arjun Ben does the editing. Music department is handled by Arun Muraleedharan.

M Shijith is producing the film under the banner of Lekhsya Entertainments.

The trailer of Karthi’s upcoming film ‘Sulthan’ has just been released online. With plenty of action, loud dialogues and hundreds of oversized goons, this looks more like a Telugu film. It appears to be one of those quintessential commercial potboilers with all mass-masala elements included in it. The film is being released in Telugu.

‘Sulthan’ is directed by Bakkiyaraj Kannan of ‘Remo’ fame. Rashmika Mandanna, one of South Indian cinema’s most popular heroines today, is making her Tamil debut with this film. The cast includes ‘KGF’ fame Garuda Ram, Napoleon, Lal, Hareesh Peradi, Yogi Babu and Mansoor Ali Khan in important roles.

On the technical front, Vivek-Mervin duo is composing the music and Ruben is handling the edits. ‘Master’ fame Sathyan Sooryan is the cinematographer. ‘Sultan’ is being produced by SR Prakash Babu and SR Prabhu under the banner of Dream Warrior Pictures. It is set for theatrical release on April 2.

Vijay’s next with director Nelson Dilipkumar, tentatively titled as ‘Thalapathy 65’, is set to go on floors soon. Before shoot begins, the makers are planning to reveal details about the cast and crew. As a first, it has been announced that the female lead’s part will be played by Pooja Hegde. Though names like Rashmika Mandanna and Kiara Advani were also doing the rounds, it is Pooja who has finally bagged the role.

Pooja made her Tamil debut 9 years back with the Mysskin-film ‘Mugamoodi’. She later went on to carve a niche for himself in Telugu industry. After the smashing success of her ‘Ala Vaikunthapuramuloo’, in which she starred alongside Allu Arjun, Pooja has been getting several big offers from other languages. In a recent interview, without giving away any clue, the actress said that it would be great if she could make a comeback in Tamil with ‘Thalapathy 65’.

Sun Pictures is producing the film, which is planned as a pan-Indian project. Anirudh Ravichander has been signed as the music director and cinematography will be handled by Manoj Paramahamsa. The film’s shoot is scheduled to begin in April with a foreign schedule in Europe.

Mohanlal’s hugely hyped directorial debut ‘Barroz’ got launched today in a grand manner. The event was attended by several big names from the Malayalam industry, which includes Mammootty, Prithviraj, Dileep, directors Priyadarshan, Fazil, Sibi Malayil and Sathyan Anthikad.

Besides directing, Mohanlal is also playing the titular role in the film. At the launch event, his character look got revealed. With long hair and overgrown beard, it is a totally new makeover for the veteran star. Scripted by Jijo Punnoose, ‘Barroz’ is a fantasy film set against the backdrop of the maritime history of Portugal, Spain, India and Africa.

It tells the story of Barroz, a mythical figure who was the gaurdian of Vasco da Gama’s valuable treasures for 400 years until his true heir comes back to protect it. Mohanlal plays the titular role and a 13-year-old child artiste named Shayla McCaffrey essays the other lead. Prithviraj Sukumaran and Prathap Pothen are the only other Malayalam actors to have confirmed so far in the cast. Foreign actors from US, Spain, Portugal and Ghana will be part of the film.

Arvind Swamy-Kunchacko Boban starrer Ottu launched; Titled as Rendagam in Tamil

Kunchacko Boban and Arvind Swamy are teaming up for a Tamil-Malayalam film to be directed by Fellini TP of ‘Theevandi’ fame. The Malayalam version has been titled as ‘Ottu’ and the Tamil version, ‘Rendagam’. The film is produced by Tamil star Arya’s banner Arya’s The Show People and August Cinema headed by Shaji Nadesan. Its shoot kick-started today in Goa.

Kunchacko Boban took to his social media handle to share photos from the launch. He has also written,

‘Ottu’ scripted by by S Sajeevan is said to be a thriller. Since it is a Tamil-Malayalam bilingual, actors from both the languages will be part of the cast. Telugu actress Eesha Rebba has been signed as the female lead. She is noted for her roles in films like ‘Awe’, ‘Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava’ and the recently released Netflix original ‘Pitta Kathalu’.

Talented young composer AH Kaashif, who is the nephew of maestro AR Rahman, has been signed as the music director.

Malik trailer all set for release tomorrow

The trailer of Fahadh Faasil’s upcoming film ‘Malik’ is set all set for release tomorrow (March 25) evening at 6 PM. A new poster featuring Fahadh and Nimisha Sajayan has been shared online. It looks the two play a couple in the film. Directed by Mahesh Narayanan, the film is based on some real-life incidents that occurred few years back in Kerala.

‘Malik’ also stars Dileesh Pothan, Vinay Forrt, Indrans, Sudhi Koppa, Chandhunath, yesteryear actress Jalaja and Maala Parvathy in major roles. Besides scripting and directing, Mahesh Narayanan is also editing the film. Cinematographer Sanu John Varughese, music director Sushin Shyam, production designer Santhosh Raman and sound designers Vishnu Govind and Sree Sankar are part of the core technical team.

‘Malik’ was originally scheduled to hit screens last year in April. However, it got delayed due to the pandemic. The makers have finally zeroed in on May 13 as the release date. Since it coincides with the Eid season, the film is expected to take a good opening in theatres. Produced by Anto Joseph, the film is made on a big canvas on a budget of close to Rs 30 crores.

His directorial debut ‘Barroz’, an ambitious 3D-fantasy film, got launched today in Kochi. The pooja event was attended by almost the big names from Malayalam industry, which includes Mammootty, Prithviraj, Dileep, directors Priyadarshan, Fazil, Sibi Malayil and Sathyan Anthikad.

Suresh Gopi who could not make it to the event took to his social media handle to shower his wishes on Mohanlal and the entire team of ‘Barroz’. Sharing one of their photos, he has written,

Mohanlal’s much-talked about directorial debut ‘Barroz’ is finally getting launched today. A grand pooja event is currently being held in Kochi, which is attended by several big names from the industry including megastar Mammootty. As Mohanlal turns a director for the first time in his four-decade long career, wishes are pouring in from all corners.

Superstar Amitabh Bachchan took to his Twitter handle to wish Mohanlal all success, prosperity and glory. He has tweeted,

‘Barroz’ is an ambitious 3D-fantasy flick scripted by Jijo Punnoose, the visionary filmmaker who made India’s first 3D film ‘My Dear Kuttichathan’. Santosh Sivan is the cinematographer and production design is handled by National-award winner Santhosh Raman. While Mohanlal plays the titular role, the cast mostly includes foreign actors. 13-year-old child prodigy Lydian Nadhaswaram is composing music for the film. Antony Perumbavoor is producing it under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas.
