Sharafudheen and Nyla Usha to star in Priyan Ottathilaanu

Sharafudheen and Nyla Usha are teaming up for the first time for a new film titled ‘Priyan Ottathilaanu’. Antony Sony, who made his directorial debut with ‘C/O Saira Banu’, will be helming the film. It is scripted by Abhayakumar K and Anil Kurian. The duo has earlier scripted ‘Su Su Sudhi Vathmeekam’, ‘Punyalan Agarbathis’ and the upcoming film ‘Chathurmukham’.

The title poster of ‘Priyan Ottathilaanu’ was shared by Nivin Pauly, Manju Warrier and Alphonse Puthren through their social media handles. Sharafudheen plays the title role in the film, which promises to be a fun entertainer. Announcing the project, Nyla Usha has written in her social media handle,

‘Priyan Ottathilaanu’ has many newcomers in the technical team. Editor Joel Kavi and music director Lijin Bambino, both of whom were part of the recent viral short film ‘Freedom at Midnight’, are making their feature film debut. Cinematography is by PM Unnikrishnan and sound design will be handled by Gokul K R. Santhosh Thrivikraman is producing the film under the banner of WOW Cinemas. Shoot is scheduled to commence next month.

The trailer of of upcoming Malayalam film ‘Tsunami’ has been shared online by the makers. Similar to the earlier-released promos, the trailer is also loaded with fun moments. Veteran Lal and his son Lal Jr aka Jean Paul Lal are jointly directing the film, which promises to be a non-stop comedy entertainer.

Scripted by Lal, the film is based on a real story. According to him, this film’s base idea came from a funny incident shared by actor Innocent in the sets of ‘Godfather’ almost 30 years back. Interestingly, director Priyadarshan also had plans to make a film based on the same incident.

‘Tsunami’ stars Aju Varghese, Balu Varghese, Mukesh and Innocent in major roles. There is also a big supporting cast comprising of Suresh Krishna, Devi Ajith, Nisha Mathew, Binu Adimaly, Aradhya Ann, Sinoj Varghese, Vathsala Menon and many others.
On the technical front, the film has Alex J Pulickal as the cinematographer and Ratheesh Raj as the editor. Neha and Yakzan Gary Pereira handle the music department.

Allan Antony is presenting the film under the banner of Panda Dad Production. It is scheduled to hit screens on March 11.

Ariyippu: Kunchacko Boban announces his next with Mahesh Narayanan

Kunchacko Boban has announced a new project on the special occasion of his mother’s birthday. He is teaming up with director Mahesh Narayanan, with whom he has worked before in ‘Take Off’, for a new film titled ‘Ariyippu’. Mahesh is also scripting the film and it will be produced jointly by Kunchacko Boban and Shebin Backer. They are planning to start shoot by June in Ernakulam. Details regarding the genre and other team members will be out soon.

Mahesh Narayanan is currently working on ‘Malayankunj’ with Fahadh Faasil. Debutant Sajimon is directing the film while Mahesh has scripted it. He is also making his debut as a cinematographer with this film. Meanwhile, Mahesh’s much-awaited directorial, ‘Malik’ also starring Fahadh Faasil is scheduled to hit screens on May 13.

As informed earlier, the makers of ‘The Priest’ have released the teaser online. Just like the teaser, which hardly revealed anything about the plot, the trailer has a mystery element and it looks technically sound. Directed by debutant Jofin T Chacko, the film promises to be a mystery thriller. Jofin has written its story and screenplay is penned by ‘Kunjiramayanam’ fame Deepu Pradeep and Shyam Menon.

The film has a big star cast comprising of several known actors. It marks the first time collaboration of Manju Warrier and Mammootty. Nikhila Vimal and ‘Kaithi’ fame Baby Monica are essaying crucial roles. Jagadheesh, Saniya Iyappan, Ramesh Pisharody, Ameya Mathew, ‘Nayika Nayakan’ fame Venkitesh and Tony Luke will be seen in supporting roles.

On the technical front, the film has Akhil George as the cinematographer and Shameer Muhammed handles the edits. Rahul Raj is in charge of the music department. The film is being jointly produced by Anto Joseph, B Unnikrishnan and VN Babu. It is scheduled hit screens on March 4.

Vijay-Vijay Sethupathi starrer ‘Master’ has breathed life to not just the Tamil film industry, but the whole of South cinema which was severely affected due to the pandemic. It was the first major release in almost 10 months and the film shattered all expectations by having a phenomenal run at the box office. Despite the 50% occupancy cap in theatres and limited overseas release, the film stormed its way to the 100 and 200 crore clubs within days of its release.

Latest news is that ‘Master’ has broken the 4-year-long record held by ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ to become the film with the highest theatrical share in Tamil Nadu.

Trade analyst Sidharth Srinivas has tweeted,

#Master – Number 1️⃣ movie in TN, in terms of its share value. Truly a collar-up moment for #ThalapathyVijay fans, as it succeeds big time as a savior for theatres during the times of the pandemic. Now, the decision to stay away from OTT is lauded even more!

Vijay’s next with director Nelson Dilipkumar, tentatively titled as ‘Thalapathy 65’, is gearing up to go on floors. Sun Pictures is producing the film, pre-production works for which are in the final stages. Anirudh has been signed as the music director and cinematography will be handled by Manoj Paramahamsa.

Latest buzz in social medias is that actor Sivakarthikeyan will be penning the lyrics for the opening song in ‘Thalapathy 65’. It must be noted that the actor is close to film’s director Nelson. His directorial debut ‘Kolamavu Kokila’ also had a song penned by Siva. The track ‘Kalyana Vayasu’ composed by Anirudh emerged as a huge hit among the masded. Nelson’s soon-to-be released ‘Doctor’ starring Sivakarthikeyan also has a couple of songs penned by the actor, which is again composed by Anirudh.

The news regarding Sivakarthikeyan turning a lyricist for Vijay’s film has created quite a buzz in social medias. Dance master Sathish first hinted it after hearing the song ‘So Baby’ from ‘Doctor’. He tweeted,

‘Muddy’ is an upcoming multilingual film directed by Dr Pragabhal under the banner of PK 7 Creations. It is said to be the first Indian movie based on off-road mud racing (4*4). The film’s teaser has been released online. It looks every bit stunning with brilliant cuts, adrenaline pumping background score and fantastic visuals of the racing. The teaser was launched through social medias Kannada actor Sivarak Kumar, Fahadh Faasil, Unni Mukundan, Ajrun Kapoor, Jayam Ravi and Telugu filmmaker Anil Ravipudi.

As per the makers, ‘Muddy’ is a thrilling-adventurous film that will offer the viewers a new cinematic experience. The film stars newcomers Ridhaan Krishna and Yuvan in the lead roles. Anusha Suresh, Amit Sivadas Nair, Harish Peradi, I M Vijayan, Renji Panicker. Manoj Guinness, Sunil Sukhada, Shobha Mohan and many others are part of the cast.

‘Muddy’ has its story written by director Pragabhal. He has penned the screenplay along with Mahesh Chandran and Sreenath Nair. On the technical front, the film has music scored by ‘KGF’ composer Ravi Basur and edits done by San Lokesh of ‘Ratsasan’ fame. KG Ratheesh is the cinematographer.

Soorarai Pottru enters Oscars race in Best Actor and Best Film eligibility list

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has revealed the 366 feature films eligible for consideration at the 93rd Oscars. Tamil film ‘Soorarai Pottru’ has entered the race in the Best Actor (Male and Female) and Best Film eligibility list. It is also learnt that ‘Soorarai Pottru’ is the only Indian film amongst the 366 films, eligible for a Film Best nomination at this year’s Oscars. The Academy voting will start from March 5-10 and nominations will be announced on March 15.

Directed by Sudha Kongara, ‘Soorarai Pottru’ tells the story of a common man’s journey from humble backgrounds to accomplish his dream of launching his own aircraft business with the aim of serving the underprivileged. It is based on the real life of Captain GR Gopinath, the founder of Air Deccan.

Suriya’s performance as the protagonist Nedumaaran Rajangam aka Maara got rated by many as one of his finest in his whole career. Lead actress Aparna Balamurali and veteran Urvashi also found widespread appreciation. Due to the pandemic situation, the film had to skip theatrical release and had its release directly in Amazon Prime Video. It is due to the COVID-19 outbreak that, the organisers of the Academy Awards have included movies released in OTTs in the competition section.

‘Saani Kaayidham’ that has Keerthy Suresh and ace filmmaker Selvaraghavan playing the lead roles has gone on floors. Arun Matheswaran is directing the film. Shoot kick-started today with a customary pooja ceremony. The film is produced by Screen Scene Media Entertainment.

‘Saani Kaayidham’ promises to be an intense crime thriller. Earlier, the makers had released a first look poster featuring the two actors lead actors. Both of them looked rugged in the poster with bloodstains splashed over them. The film has cinematography by ‘Sillu Karuppatti’ fame Yamini Yagnamurthy, editing by Nagooran and art direction by Ramu Thangaraj. Yuvan Shankar Raja is the music director.

‘Saani Kaayidham’ marks the acting debut of Selvaraghavan, a proven filmmaker who has a huge fan base among Tamil cinephiles. It will be very interesting to see how Selva, who is known to bring out the best from his actors, gets the nuances right as a performer on screen. His rapport with Keerthy Suresh is another interesting thing to look forward to.
