RJ Balaji to star in Badhaai Ho Tamil remake

Ayushmann Khuranna’s superhit film ‘Badhaai Ho’ is set to be remade in Tamil. RJ Balaji and NJ Saravanan, who last directed ‘Mookuthi Amman’, will be helming this film. RJ Balaji himself will be playing the lead role played by Ayushmann in the original. More details on the supporting cast and crew members are awaited.

‘Badhaai Ho’ directed by Amit Sharma is a feel-good family entertainer that did fabulous business at the box office. Along with Ayushmann, the other major roles were played by Neena Gupta, Gajraj Rao, Surekha Sikri and Sanya Malhotra. Besides the commercial success, the film also on to win two National Awards — Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and Best Supporting Actress for Surekha Sikri.

It will be interesting to see how the Tamil version turns out. RJ Balaji is known for his knack for cracking message-oriented films with humour in it. He is expected to follow the same pattern this time as well.

Drishyam 2 Telugu version starts rolling

As informed earlier, the recent sensation ‘Drishyam 2’ is getting remade in Telugu. Jeethu Joseph, who directed the original is helming the remake as well. The film went on floors today in Hyderabad with a customary pooja ceremony.

‘Drishyam 2’ is set six years apart from the first part. The core plot once again revolves around the murder investigation and the police’s efforts to find evidence to arrest the family. Venkatesh, Meena and Nadhiya are expected to reprise the respective roles of Mohanlal, Meena and Asha Sharath in the original.

The Malayalam version of ‘Drishyam 2’ got released on February 19 and opened to unanimously positive reviews. Since it got released directly on Amazon Prime Video, several non-Malayali audience have already watched the film. So it will be interesting to see if the remake versions will have alternate climaxes.

Casting call released for an upcoming Prithviraj starrer

Prithviraj Sukumaran is one of the busiest actors in Malayalam cinema today with over 10 projects in his kitty. His home banner Prithviraj Productions is producing some of them. Last day, they released a casting call looking for female actors to perform lead roles in one of their films. Details regarding the director or the film’s genre were not revealed.

They are on the look for smart enigmatic female actors between the age group of 15 to 18. They are also searching for female twins, both identical and non-identical, of the same age group. Training in martial arts is an added advantage. Prithviraj is currently working on ‘Bhramam’, the official remake of hit Hindi film ‘Andhadhun’. Unni Mukundan, Raashi Khanna and Mamta Mohandas also star in it. Veteran cinematographer Ravi K Chandran is directing the film.

Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt to present Darlings

‘Darlings’ is an upcoming Hindi film starring Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah, ‘Gully Boy’ fame Vijay Varma and Malayalam actor Roshan Mathew in the lead roles. Debutant Jasmeet K Reen is directing the film. Gauri Khan- Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment will be presenting the film in association with Alia Bhatt’s newly launched Eternal Sunshine Productions.

Alia Bhatt shared the announcement teaser and wrote,

‘Darlings’, a dark comedy, is set in a lower middle-class neighbourhood in Mumbai. It revolves around a mother and daughter who discover love and courage in exceptional circumstances. Alia Bhatt and Shefali play the lead roles. Roshan, who made his Bollywood debut last this year with Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Choked’, is essaying a prominent role.

Massive clash on cards at the Kerala box office in May

Last day, it was announced that ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’ release has been postponed from March 26 to May 13. Interestingly, two other biggies are also set to hit screens on the same day. Nivin Pauly’s ‘Thuramukham’ and Fahadh Faasil’s ‘Malik’ — two films with tremendously hype — are also announced as Eid release on May 13.

If such a three way clash happens, it will have a major impact in the theatrical collections in Kerala. So the makers along with film governing bodies are expected to have a rethinking and adjust their release plans so that all the three films get a fair opening. Since the release date is another two months away, they will also be hoping that the pandemic situation gets better by then and theatres will be back to full capacity.

‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’ made on a mammoth budget is directed by Priyadarshan. The film has top artists and technicians from across the country associated with it. Mohanlal, Suniel Shetty, Prabhu, Manju Warrier, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Pranav Mohanlal and many others are part of the cast. Aashirvad Cinemas, Confident Group and Moonshot Entertainment are jointly producing the film.

‘Thuramukham’ directed by Rajeev Ravi has a stellar star cast comprising of Nivin Pauly, Indrajith, Joju, Nimisha, Poornima, Arjun Ashokan, Manikandan Achari and Sudev Nair. The film is set to have its world premiere at the prestigious International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR). It is among the 15 films selected for the Big Screen Competiton section. Sukumar Thekkeppat of Mini Studio is producing the film.

‘Malik’ starring Fahadh Faasil in the titular role is directed by Mahesh Narayanan of ‘Take Off’ and ‘CU Soon’ fame. It is an ambitious film that has been made on a big canvas with a budget of close to Rs 30 crores. The cast includes Nimisha Sajayan, Dileesh Pothan, Vinay Forrt, Indrans, yesteryear actress Jalaja, and many others. Anto Joseph Film Company is producing the film.

Peranbu director Ram to supervise Tamil dubbing of Mammootty’s One

Mammootty’s much-anticipated political drama ‘One’ is scheduled to hit screens in April during the Vishu season. The makers are currently working on the Tamil dubbing. Acclaimed filmmaker Ram, who has worked with Mammootty in ‘Peranbu’, is supervising the dubbing. He had done the same for the star’s epic film ‘Mamangam’ as well.

‘One’ is scripted by Bobby-Sanjay and directed by Santhosh Viswanath of ‘Chirakodinja Kinavukal’ fame. Mammootty plays the role of Kerala Chief Minister in it. As per the makers, the film is not based on any real life person but about how an ideal Chief Minister of a State should be.

The film has a large supporting cast. Nimisha Sajayan, Murali Gopy, Joju George, Ranjith, Mathew Thomas, Gayathri Arun, Sudev Nair, Suresh Krishna, Salim Kumar, Shankar Ramakrishnan, Alencier Ley Lopez, Mamukoya, P Balachandran, Ishaani Krishna and many others are part of the film. Vaidy Somasundaram is the cinematographer and music department is handled by Gopi Sunder.

Thalapathy 65 makers approach Pooja Hegde to play the female lead

Vijay’s next with director Nelson Dilipkumar, tentatively titled as ‘Thalapathy 65’, is getting ready to go on floors. Sun Pictures is producing the film, pre-production works for which are in the final stages. Anirudh Ravichander has been signed as the music director and cinematography will be handled by Manoj Paramahamsa.

The makers have approached Pooja Hegde to play the female lead. In a recent interview, without giving away any clue, the actress said that it would be great if she could make a comeback in Tamil with the Vijay starrer. After the smashing success of the Telugu film ‘Ala Vaikunthapuramuloo’, Pooja has been getting several big offers from Tamil and Telugu. As per reports, the makers of ‘Thalapathy 65’ are also in talks with Rashmika Mandanna and Kiara Advani but they haven’t finalized the female lead yet.

‘Thalapathy 65’ shoot is scheduled to begin in April with a foreign schedule in Europe.

Salaar: Release date announced for Prabhas’ next with KGF director Prashanth Neel

The makers of Prabhas’ upcoming film ‘Salaar’ have announced that the film will be hitting screens worldwide on April 14, 2022. ‘KGF’ director Prashanth Neel is helming the film. It marks his reunion with Hombale Films after the humongous success of ‘KGF’ series. Naturally, expectations are on the higher side.

‘Salaar’ is planned as a pan-Indian film that will be made on a huge scale. Shruthi Haasan has been signed as the female lead. More actors from various languages are expected to be part of the cast. The film comes with the tagline, ‘The most violent men.. called one man.. the most violent’. So it is quite evident that ‘Salaar’ will be a full-on action packed entertainer.

Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham new release date announced

Amidst the pandemic situation, the release date of Malayalam cinema’s most anticipated film ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’ has been postponed yet again. The film was scheduled for release on March 26 but it has now been pushed to May 13. Since it is the Eid holidays, the film is expected to take a massive opening at the box office.

‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’ was originally slated for release in March, 2020. However, it had to be postponed due to the virus outbreak. Although it has been over one year, the hype has still not died down. Expectations are huge among both Mohanlal fans and Malayalam cinema lovers in general.

Operation Java director Tharun Moorthy confirms a second part!

‘Operation Java’ has turned out to be the first genuine theatrical hit in Malayalam cinema this year. The film has entered its third week of theatrical run and is still continuing in a good number of centres. Directed by debutant Tharun Moorthy, it is a film based on various cyber crimes. It is probably the first time in Malayalam cinema that so much that cyber crimes has been explored in such depth and that itself is the film’s USP.

‘Operation Java’ ends with the possibility of a second part and the director has now confirmed the same. In a recent interview, Tarun Moorthy revealed that a sequel will be made but it will only be after 2-3 years. It remains to be seen if the same characters will be returning once again.

‘Operation Java’ has an elaborate cast that includes Balu Varghese, Lukman, Vinayakan, Irshad, Shine Tom Chacko, Binu Pappu, Dhanya Ananya, Mamitha Baiju, Vineetha Koshy, Johny Antony and Prashanth Alexander. Cinematographer Faiz Siddik, music director Jakes Bejoy and editor Nishad Yousef comprise the core technical crew.
