Neelambale: Sujatha Mohan renders a lovely song for The Priest

As the much-awaited Mammootty starrer ‘The Priest’ gets ready to hit screens on March 4, the makers have released a new song online. Sung by Sujatha Mohan, it is a lovely song composed by Rahul Raj with lyrics penned by BK Harinarayanan.

The Priest’ is directed by debutant Jofin T Chacko. Scripted by ‘Kunjiramayanam’ fame Deepu Pradeep and Shyam Menon, the film is said to be a mystery thriller. The film was originally scheduled to hit screens during the first week of February but the makers pushed it hoping that the pandemic situation will get better and eventually, more people will start visiting theatres.

‘The Priest’ is the first big-star film to get a theatrical release in Malayalam cinema post the lockdown. So everyone, including the industry insiders, are eagerly looking forward to see how the film fares at the box office. The film is being jointly produced by Anto Joseph, B Unnikrishnan and VN Babu.

Gangubai Kathiawadi: Alia Bhatt looks majestic in this Sanjay Leela Bhansali film!

The teaser of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s new film ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ has just been released online. Alia Bhatt plays the titular role in the film and is also has a special appearance by Ajay Devgn. The film is scheduled to hit screens on 30 July, 2021. Bhansali and Dr Jayantilal Gada of Pen Studios are jointly producing it.

The film is based on the life of Gangubai Kathiawadi, one of the most famous madams from brothels in Mumbai’s infamous red light area, Kamathipura. As per reports, she came to Mumbai from Gujarat with her partner, Ramnik Lal, who betrayed and sold her off. She was pushed into prostitution and went on to foster ties with many underworld dons and even got a hold over certain portions in Mumbai. She later became the madam of a brothel and is said to have championed the rights of sex workers. She worked for the upliftment of women and orphans in the area of Kamathipura.

The film was originally announced as ‘Heera Mandi’ with Priyanka Chopra as the lead character, but later she was replaced by Alia Bhatt. While Alia plays Gangubai’s role, the film also has Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz and Seema Pahwa in prominent roles.

Supriya Prithviraj congratulates Vismaya on being a published writer at such a young age

Malayalam superstar Mohanlal’s daughter Vismaya had recently turned an author by publishing her maiden book, ‘Grains of Stardust’. The book hit the stands earlier this month on Valentine’s Day (February 14). Published by Penguin Random House India, it is a collection of poems and paintings comprising ideas of love, art and creativity.

Vismaya had sent handwritten copies of the book to some of her father’s close friends and her own from the film industry. Amitabh Bachchan, Dulquer Salmaan and Kalyani Priyadarshan had showered their wishes on Vismaya. Just a while back, Supriya Prithviraj took to her Instagram handle to pen down a note congratulating Vismaya on becoming a published writer at such a young age. She also credited the parents, Mohanlal and Suchithra, for raising Pranav and Vismaya as such wonderfully grounded kids.

Supriya’s post reads,

Maya, congratulations on being a published writer at such a young age! For me Grains of Stardust is an indulgent yet articulate portrait of an old soul in a young writer. I’ve only met you a couple of times so far but you have always impressed us as a girl who knows her own mind and is determined to make her own way thru life. Not easy, when you have two brilliant parents @mohanlal @suchi.lal who are really such larger than life figures. But I couldn’t be prouder to see you carve your own path! Some part of the credit of that goes to your wonderful parents who we’ve come to know and love as a family. Big shout out to @suchi.lal for raising such wonderfully grounded kids. Dulquer Salmaan had recently started shooting for his new film with director Rosshan Andrrews. Scripted by Bobby-Sanjay, it is said to be a investigative thriller. Dulquer is said to be playing a police officer’s role in the film. The actor was recently spotted in a well-groomed and clean-shaven look just like a cop. Though Dulquer had appeared as a police officer briefly in ‘Vikramadithyan’, this will be his first outing in full fledged cop role.

Bollywood actress Diana Penty of ‘Cocktail’ fame has been signed as the female lead. It is her debut outing in Malayalam. Manoj K Jayan, Saniya Iyappan and Lakshmi Gopalaswamy will also be seen in important roles.

The film is currently being shot at a brisk pace in Thiruvananthapuram. Dulquer had recently taken a break to join the sets of ‘Kurup’ in Kochi, where its patch shoot is progressing. The actor himself is producing both these films under his banner Wayfarer Films.

‘Mumbai Saga’ is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language action crime film directed by Sanjay Gupta. The film stars John Abraham and Emraan Hashmi as the leads. It has an ensemble supporting cast comprising of Suniel Shetty, Kajal Aggarwal, Rohit Roy, Anjana Sukhani, Mahesh Manjrekar, Prateik Babbar, Samir Soni, Amole Gupte and Gulshan Grover. The film’s teaser has been released online.

‘Mumbai Saga’ set in 80s and 90s has Amartya Rao, a gangster and Emraan Hashmi as a daredevil cop. The teaser has nothing new to offer. Its style is reminiscent to director Sanay Gupta’s own films ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’ and ‘Shootout at Wadala’.

‘Mumbai Saga’ shoot started in August 2019 and was halted in March 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic but resumed in June 2020. The makers eventually managed to wrap up shoot in October 2020. It is scheduled for a grand theatrical release on 19 March 2021. This is set to be Bollywood’s first big-canvas release since the lockdown was imposed last March.

‘Teddy’ is an upcoming Tamil film written and directed by Shakti Soundar Rajan. The film stars Arya and Sayyeshaa in the lead roles. Its trailer has been released online and it looks very promising. The film seems to deal with a serious medical crime. The trailer throws at us so much information, including a bit about astral projection. The hero, played by Arya, claims that coma patients, who are in a limbo between life and death, at times, have an out-of-body experience.

‘Teddy’ is only the second Tamil film after Rajinikanth’s ‘Kochadaiyaan’ to use motion capture (mo-cap) technology. They have incorporated the technology extensively to bring to life a teddy bear-like character. It appears on screen for a duration of around 80 minutes. From the trailer, we can make out that Arya’s character and the teddy join hands to dismantle the evil business operation that is costing numerous human lives.

The core technical team of ‘Teddy’ comprises of music director D. Imman, cinematographer S Yuva and editor T Shivanandeeshwaran. The film is set to have a direct OTT- release on March 12, 2021. It will be premiering in Disney+ Hotstar and will be available in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam languages.

The makers of ‘Member Rameshan 9aam Ward’ have released the teaser of the first single, ‘Alare Neeyennile’. Kalias Menon has composed the song and it is sung by Ayraan and Nithya Mammen. Shabareesh Varma has penned the lyrics. From the teaser, we can make out that it is a romantic song featuring Arjun Ashokan and ‘Ladoo’ fame Gayathri Ashok.

‘Member Rameshan 9th Ward’ is written and directed by Anto Jose Pereira and Aby Treesa Paul. It is said to be a full length political entertainer set in a rural backdrop. Arjun Ashokan plays the lead role of OM Rameshan. Sabumon, Mamukkoya, Johny Antony and Saju Kodiyan also play politicians in the film.

Chemban Vinod Jose, Shabareesh Varma, Indrans, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Mareena Michael and many others are part of the supporting cast. Eldho Issac is the cinematographer and music department is be handled by Kailas Menon. Deepu Joseph is the editor.

Boban-Moly duo is producing the film under the banner of Boban and Moly Entertainment.

It is Tollywood star Nani’s birthday today. On this special occasion, the makers have released the teaser of his upcoming film, ‘Tuck Jagadish’. The teaser gives glimpses of the hero, his loving joint family, and how happily they are living in their native village. Daniel Balaji seems to be playing the villain role and Ritu Varma is paired with Nani. The cast also includes Aishwarya Rajesh, Maala Parvathy, Devadarshini, Jagapathi Babu, Nassar, Rohini, Rao Ramesh, Praveen and Naresh.

‘Tuck Jagadish’ is directed by Shiva Nirvana. It is his second film with Nani after his directorial debut Ninnu Kori, which got released in 2017. Their new film promises to be a proper commercial entertainer that appeals to all sections of the audience. S Thaman is composing the music and cinematography is by Prasad Murella.

‘Tuck Jagadish’ was originally scheduled to hit screens on April 16, 2021. However, the makers have pushed the release by a week to avert a box office clash with Sekhar Kammula’s ‘Love Story’, which is slated to release on April 16. The Nani starrer will be releasing on April 23.

Nivin Pauly and Asif Ali are set to play the lead roles in director Abrid Shine’s new film. Titled as ‘Mahaveeryar’, the film went on floors today in Rajasthan. Nivin’s Pauly Jr Pictures is jointly producing the film along with Indian Movie Makers. Announcing the project through his social media handle, Nivin wrote,

‘Mahaveeryar’ is Nivin Pauly’s third film with director Abrid Shine. Both their previous films, ‘1983’ and ‘Action Hero Biju’ were commercially successful. The duo will be hoping to repeat the success once again. It will also be interesting to see Asif Ali and Nivin share screen space after almost a decade. They had worked together in ‘Sevenes’ and ‘Traffic’.

Vijay’s next film will be directed by Nelson Dilipkumar of ‘Kolamavku Kokila’ fame. Sun Pictures is producing this biggie, which is tentatively titled as ‘Thalapathy 65’. Pre-production works are currently underway with the makers finalizing the cast and crew. It has been confirmed that the film will have cinematography by Manoj Paramahamsa. He is best known for his work in films like ‘Eeram’, ‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa’ and ‘Enai Noki Paayum Thotta’. He has previously worked with Vijay in ‘Nanban’, the Tamil remake of ‘3 Idiots’.

‘Thalapathy 65’ already has high expectations. Director Nelson’s debut film ‘Kolamavku Kokila’ was a commercial success and his soon-to-be released film ‘Doctor’ with Sivakarthikeyan also has a positive talk in the industry. Anirudh who composed music for both his films has been retained for ‘Thalapathy 65’ as well. It is reported that the film’s shoot will begin in April. The makers are planning it as a grand Diwali release in November.
