Jeethu Joseph to direct another thriller film this year!

After a series of not-so-great films, director Jeethu Joseph has made a phenomenal comeback with ‘Drishyam 2’. The film is getting nationwide attention thanks to its direct release in Amazon Prime Video. People across the country are heaping praise on the film. Remake talks have also begun in various languages.

Jeethu has confirmed that he himself is directing the Telugu version. Venkatesh, who played the lead in the remake of the first part of ‘Drishyam’, will be reprising his role. Meena, Esther Anil and Nadhiya, who essayed major roles in the first part, are expected to return in the sequel as well. Shoot is scheduled to begin in March.

Meanwhile, Jeethu Joseph has also confirmed that he will be making another thriller film this year. In a recent interview to Quint, he said that, he is working on a pure thriller film and its announcement will be made soon. If things turn out as per plans, shoot will begin this year itself.

According to Jeethu, it is only his second thriller film. ‘Memories’ released in 2013 is his only other film in that genre. Though it is widely regarded as one of the finest thrillers in Indian cinema, Jeethu believes that ‘Drishyam’ is a story about two families and the second part is a family-mystery-drama at best.

Vikram opts out; RS Vimal revives Suryaputra Mahavir Karna with a new team!

After the success of ‘Ennu Ninte Modieen’, director RS Vimal had started works on a mega-budget period film based on the mythological figure Karnan from Mahabharatha. Initially, Prithviraj Sukumaran was announced as the lead actor but he later got replaced by Vikram. Shoot also commenced in 2019 by filming the Kurukshetra battle sequence. On Vikram’s birthday last year, the makers even released a teaser featuring him. However, the project now seems to have been revamped with a new team.

‘Pooja Entertainment’, a Bollywood-based production house that has been in the industry for over two decades, is backing the film now. Titled as ‘Suryaputra Mahavir Karna’, the film is planned to be made in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam languages.

Buzz is that a top hero from Bollywood will be playing the lead role of ‘Karna’. RS Vimal is directing the film that has additional screenplay and dialogues by India’s celebrated poet Dr Kumar Vishwas. Vashu Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh, and Jackky Bhagnani are jointly producing this multilingual project.

‘Talent is hereditary’: Amitabh Bachchan wishes Vismaya Mohanlal for her new book

Malayalam superstar Mohanlal’s daughter Vismaya had recently turned an author with her debut poetry book, ‘Grains of Stardust’. The book hit the stands earlier this month on Valentine’s Day (February 14). Published by Penguin Random House India, it is a collection of poems and paintings comprising ideas of love, art and creativity. Several film personalities including Dulquer Salmaan and Kalyani Priyadarshan had showered their wishes on Vismaya.

Mohanlal had also sent a copy of the book to Amitabh Bachchan, who seems to have been impressed by its content. Big B took to his social media handle to wish Vismaya. He has written,

Neeraj Madhav blessed with a baby girl

Malayalam actor Neeraj Madhav has been blessed with a baby girl. The ‘Family Man’ star took to his social media handle to share the happy news. Neeraj shared a photo with his wife Deepthi Janardhan holding a pink balloon that has ‘It’s a girl’ written on it. He captioned the photo stating, “We’re blessed with a baby girl!!!”

Soon after that, several celebrities including Tovino Thomas, Priya Mani, Aju Varghese, Unni Mukundan, Reba John, Mamta Mohandas, Shreya Dhanwanthary, Pearle Maaney, Sshivada and Muhsin Parari congratulated the couple on embracing parenthood.

Neeraj married his long time girlfriend Deepthi, on April 2, 2018. The actor made his entry to the film industry by playing brief roles in movies like ‘Buddy’, ‘Memories’, ‘Drishyam’, ‘Oru Indian Pranayakatha’ etc. Madhav Ramadasan’s ‘Apothecary’ gave Neeraj his first break. He also tried his hand in screenwriting with ‘Lavakusha’ and music videos.

In 2019, Neeraj made head turns with an impressive performance in the Amazon Prime web series ‘The Family Man’. While the show returns for a second season this summer, it remains to be seen if he will be reprising his role of Moosa Rahman.

Shoot wrapped up for Joju George-Shruthi Ramachandran starrer Madhuram

Shoot for ‘Madhuram’ has successfully been wrapped up. It is director Ahammed Khabeer’s second film after making an impressive debut with the rom-com ‘June’. Joju George, Arjun Ashokan, Nikhila Vimal and Shruthi Ramachandran play the lead roles in the film. Recently, on the occasion of Valentine’s Day, the makers had released a lovely, romantic teaser featuring Joju and Shruthi.

‘Madhuram’ has its story written by director Ahammed. Screenplay is penned by Ashiq Aimar and Fahim Safar. Though the makers are yet to reveal any details, it is said to be a feel-good romantic flick. Indrans, Jaffer Idukki, Fahim Safar, Malavika and Babu Jose will be seen in supporting roles.

On the technical side, the film has Jithin Stanislaus as the cinematographer and music by Hesham Abdul Wahab. Mahesh Bhuvanend is editing the film. Sound designer Dhanush Nayanar, sound mixer Vishnu Sujathan, makeup artist Ronex Xavier, art director Dileep Nath and costume designer Sameera Saneesh are also part of the technical crew.

Joju George is producing the film along with Sijo Vadakkan under the banner of Appu Pappu Pathu Production House.

Alphonse Puthren is making his debut as a music composer with ‘Kathakal Chollidam’, a lovely song about parenthood. Vineeth Sreenivasan, Kunchacko Boban, Sharafudheen, Krishna Sankar and Vinay Forrt feature in the video along with their kids. Vineeth has also penned the lyrics and lent his voice for the song. It is arranged and mixed by Hesham Abdul Wahab.

Sharing the song through his social media handle, Vineeth wrote,

Extremely happy to post this here.. Alphonse Puthren turns music composer and this is his first song as a composer.. and I have written and sung this song.. this song comes from a very special place in our hearts..

Something that has been kept extremely personal, is out there now!! this would have never happened if not for Alphonse Puthren. When he sent me the first edit of this video, I had a wide smile on my face. I could see how parenthood has changed the artist in him..

Alphonse Puthren has also edited the song. It is conceived in such a way that each artist and their kids represent a particular element. While Kunchacko Boban’s segment is space, Vineeth Sreenivasan’s is air. Sharafudheen’s part represents Earth, Krishna Sankar’s light and Vijay Forrt’s water.

As reported by us earlier, the hit Malayalam film ‘Helen’ is getting remade in Tamil as ‘Anbirkiniyal’. Veteran actor Arun Pandian and his daughter Keerthi Pandian of ‘Thumbaa’ fame play the lead roles. It is directed by Gokul, who has previously helmed films like ‘Rowthiram’, ‘Idharkuthaane Aasaipattai Balakumara’, ‘Junga’, and ‘Kashmora’. The film’s trailer has been released online and it seems like a scene by scene remake without any unwanted deviations.

‘Helen’ directed by debutant Mathukutty Xavier had Anna Ben in the titular role and Lal essaying her father’s part. In the Tamil version, Keerthy Pandian is reprising Anna’s role and her father Arun Pandian will be seen as her on-screen dad as well. Cinematographer Mahesh Muthuswami, music director – Javed Riaz and editor Pradeep E Ragav form the core technical team.

‘Helen’ was received well by both the critics as well as the general public. Anna Ben’s performance in it got her a Special Jury Mention at the Kerala State Awards. Since it is a survival thriller, the story should appeal to a wide range of audience irrespective of the language. The film is also getting remade in Hindi and Telugu as well with Janhvi Kapoor and Anuapama Parameswaran as the leads.

‘Aarkkariyam’ starring Parvathy, Biju Menon and Sharafudheen as the leads is gearing up to hit screens. The film is scheduled for release on March 12. Meanwhile, the makers have released the first song video online. Titled as ‘Chiramabhayamee’, it is a warm, feel-good song composed and arranged by Yakzan Gary Pereira and Neha S Nair. Madhuvanthi Narayan has lent her vocals and lyrics is penned by Anwar Ali.

‘Aarkkariyam’ marks the directorial debut of popular cinematographer Sanu John Varughese. It is scripted jointly by Sanu, Rajesh Ravi and Arun Janardhanan. The story set during the initial days of pandemic is about a couple who travel from Mumbai to Kerala just before the nationwide lockdown is announced.

Parvathy and Sharafudheen are playing the married couple’s roles. Biju Menon essays the part of Parvathy’s father in the film. Saiju Kurup and Arya Salim will also be seen essaying crucial roles in the film. The technical department of ‘Aarkkariyam includes G Sreenivas Reddy as the cinematographer and Mahesh Narayanan as the editor. Neha Nair- Yakzan Gary Pereira duo is composing the songs and background score is done by Sanjay Divecha.

‘Aarkkariyam’ is being produced jointly by Aashiq Abu’s OPM Dream Mill and Santhosh T Kuruvilla’s Moonshot Entertainment.

Fahadh Faasil’s Irul to release directly in Netflix?

Last year, when the Covid-19 cases where peaking in the State, Fahadh Faasil was among the first mainstream actors from Malayalam industry to return back to the sets and resume shooting. He first did ‘C U Soon’ with Mahesh Narayanan and followed it up with ‘Irul’, directed by debutant Naseef Yusuf Izuddin. It is a small scale film centered mainly around three characters, played by Fahadh, Soubin Shahir and Darshana Rajendran.

Latest buzz is that ‘Irul’ might get a direct OTT release through Netflix. Though the makers are yet to confirm, it is said that they have signed a profitable deal with the streaming giant. The film is jointly produced by Anto Joseph Productions and Plan J Studios.

‘Irul’ is said to be a mystery-thriller set in a bungalow. Jomon T John has cranked the camera and edits are done by Shammer Muhammed. The film’s director Naseef Yusuf Izuddin was the creative director of the production house, Film Tent, which was associated with Excel Entertainment. He was part of popular Bollywood films like ‘Happy New Year’, ‘Dil Dhadkaney Do’, ‘Badlapur’, ‘Raees’, ‘Newton’ and ‘Thumbbad’.

Samyuktha Menon, Arjun Ashokan and Shine Tom Chacko in Wolf; Here’s the first look!

Samyuktha Menon, Arjun Ashokan, Shine Tom Chacko and Jaffer Idukki are coming together for a new film titled ‘Wolf’. A first look poster featuring all the four actors has been released online. It is directed by Shaji Azees, who has previously helmed films like ‘Shakespeare MA Malayalam’ and ‘Oridathoru Post Man’.

‘Wolf’ is said to be an emotional thriller with only very few characters involved. It is based on a short story penned by popular novelist GR Indugopan. He has also written the film’s screenplay. The story is set around a police aid post and a nearby house over a day and night.

Shine Tom Chacko plays a cop’s role in the film. Samyuktha Menon essays the part of a young woman who is about to get married. Arjun Ashokan plays her fiance’s character. The film only has a handful of actors as part of the cast.

Faiz Siddik, whose work in ‘Operation Java’ is getting widespread appreciation, has cranked the camera for this film as well. Ranjin Raj of ‘Joseph’ fame is the music director and edits are handled by Noufal Abdullah. Santhosh Damodharan is producing the film under the banner of Damor Cinema.
