Today, on the first anniversary of ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’, Prithviraj has announced his new project ‘Vilayath Budha’. Sachy was originally supposed to direct this film but due to his unfortunate demise, his associate Jayan Nambiar has taken up the project. The film’s title poster has been shared through Prithviraj’s social media handles. He has also written,

‘Vilayath Budha’ is based on GR Indugopan’s novel of the same name. Indugopan and Rajesh Pinnadan have penned the film’s screenplay. The story revolves around Bhaskaran master, who grows a sandalwood tree in his yard for a personal reason, and his student Double Mohanan, a smuggler, who challenges his teacher that he will cut down the tree. While Prithviraj will be seen playing Double Mohanan’s role, the makers are yet to give reveal the name of the actor who will be essaying Bhaskaran Master’s part.

The technical crew of ‘Vilayath Budha’ includes cinematographer Jomon T John, editor Mahesh Narayanan, music director Jakes Bejoy, art director Mohandas, sound designers Vishnu Govind ans Sree Sankar. Sandip Senan and Anish M Thomas are jointly producing the film under the banner of Urvasi Theatres.

Kalidas Jayaram’s Backpackers gets a direct OTT release

Another new Malayalam film is getting released directly through an OTT platform. Kalidas Jayaram’s ‘Backapackers’ is set to be released on a new streaming platform named Roots from February 10. The film is directed by multiple-award winning filmmaker Jayaraj.

‘Backpackers’ is Kalidas’ fourth film on the trot to get an OTT release. Last year, he had three back-to-back releases in Tamil. He starred in Sudha Kongara’s film ‘Ilamai Idho Idho’ in the Amazon Prime anthology, ‘Putham Pudhu Kaalai’. His brilliant performance as a transwoman in the Netflix film ‘Paava Kadhaigal’ got him unanimous appreciation. His long delayed Tamil film ‘Oru Pakka Kathai’ also got released in Zee5.

‘Backpackers’ is said to be an intense romantic film about two terminally ill patients. The makers had released its teaser last year on Valentine’s Day. Newcomer Karthika plays the female lead. Both Kalidas and Karthika had tonsured their heads for this film. Scripted by Jayaraj, it is reportedly based on a true story. Renji Panicker will also be seen in a prominent role in the film.

Abhinandan Ramanujan, popular for his work in films like ‘Amen’ ‘9’ and ‘Mosayile Kuthira Meenukal’, is the cinematographer. Sachin Shankor Mannath is the music director and edits are handled by Sreejith. Dr Suresh Kumar Muttath is producing the film.

The makers of ‘Ajagajantharam’ have released the second look poster featuring lead actor Antony Varghese. Jayasurya shared the poster through his official social media handles. He also wished the team luck. The film is directed by ‘Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil’ fame Tinu Pappachan. It is scripted by ‘Angamaly Diaries’ (AD) actors Vineeth Viswam and Kichu Tellus.

Antony Varghese reportedly plays the role of a mahout in the film, which is set against the backdrop of a temple festival. Arjun Ashokan, Lukman, Kichu Tellus, Sudhi Koppa and Vineeth Viswam will be seen essaying other major roles.

‘Ajagajantharam’ has Jinto George as the cinematographer, Shameer Muhammed as the editor and Thanneer Mathan Dhinangal’ fame Justin Varghese as the music director. Gokul Das is the art director and Renganaath Ravee handles the sound design.

The film is jointly produced by Emmanuel Joseph and Ajith Thalapilly under the banner of Silver Bay Studios. Central Pictures will be releasing it in Kerala. The makers have announced the film will be hitting screens on February 26.

Drishyam 2 trailer gets positive feedback in social medias!

The trailer of Mohanlal starrer ‘Drishyam 2’ was supposed to be released on February 8. However, a technical mistake from the Amazon Prime team lead to the trailer getting leaked. It soon spread like wildfire in social medias forcing the Amazon team to release the trailer through their official YouTube channel. The response from fans as well as general audience have so far been positive. The 2.27-minute long trailer has enough elements to raise one’s curiosity as what happens to Georgekutty’s family next.

As confirmed by the makers, ‘Drishyam 2’ continues exactly from where the first part ended. According to director Jeethu Joseph, the film will be more intense and emotional this time. From the trailer, we learn that Georgekutty is a theatre owner and a film producer now. Though it seems like the family has overcome all the troubles and leads a happy life now, the trauma of having committed a grave crime still haunts them. Police officials are still investigating the case and it remains to be seen if the family gets exposed this time.

Mohanlal Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil, Siddique, Asha Sharath and Aneesh Menon are reprising their roles. Murali Gopy, Ganesh Kumar, Sai Kumar and Anjali Nair are some of the new additions to the cast.

Antony Perumbavoor is producing the film under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas. It is scheduled for premiere on Amazon Prime Video on February 19.

As ‘Operation Java’ gets ready for release on February 12, the makers are busy promoting the film with regular updates in social medias. The first single from the film got released online on Saturday. Titled as ‘Irulvazhiye’, the song is composed by Jakes Bejoy. Alan Joy Mathew and Parvathi Nair have lent their vocals with lyrics by Joe Paul and rap by Vivzy. The lyric video has been directed by Andrews Clarson.

‘Operation Java’, written and directed by debutant Tharun Moorthy, is an investigative film revolving around cyber crimes. The makers have taken inspirations from real-life incidents. It focusses on how the Kerala Police’s cyber department functions and the various cases they crack.

‘Operation Java’ has an elaborate star cast comprising of Vinayakan, Lukman, Irshad, Balu Varghese, Shine Tom Chacko, Binu Pappu, Dhanya Ananya, Mamitha Baiju, Vineetha Koshy, Johny Antony and Prashanth Alexander among others.

The film has edits by Nishadh Yusuf and cinematography by Faiz Siddik, who has also cranked the camera for the upcoming films ‘Aanaparambile World Cup’, ‘The Wolf’ and ‘Adi’. It is produced by V Cinemas International.

Manikandan Achari gets to share screen space with Irfan Pathan in Cobra

Tamil star Vikram’s new film ‘Cobra’ is currently in the final stages of shoot. Written and directed by Ajay Gnanamuthu of ‘Imaikka Nodigal’ fame, it is a big-budget thriller shot across multiple countries. Vikram will be appearing in multiple looks in the film. KGF’ fame Srinidhi Shetty plays the female lead. Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan is also making his acting debut with this film.

The cast includes several Malayalam actors, namely Roshan Mathew, Miya George, Manikandan Achari, Mammukoya and ‘June’ fame Sarjano Khalid. On Friday, Manikandan took to his Facebook page to share his excitement in working with Irfan Pathan in ‘Cobra’. Pathan essays the role of French Interpol officer Aslan Yilmaz in the film.

Maestro AR Rahman has composed music for the film. Release plans are most likely to be out only after the shoot of completion. Lalit Kumar of Seven Screen Studios is producing this big budget film.

Popular Tamil filmmakers Gautham Vasudev Menon, Venkat Prabhu, AL Vijay and Nalan Kumarasamy are coming together for a new anthology film titled ‘Kutti Story’. The film, which shot during the initial days of pandemic, is gearing up for theatrical release. Meanwhile, the makers have shared the trailer online. It is evident that the film is about relationships between various couples.

‘Kutty Story’ stars Vijay Sethupathi, Aditi Balan, Amala Paul, Gautham Menon, Megha Akash, Vinoth Kishan, Sakshi Agarwal, Amitash, Sangita Krish and Varun. Gautham Menon himself is playing the lead in his segment along with Amala Paul. Amitash and Megha Akash are part of AL Vijay’s film while Venkat Prabhu’s film stars Varun and Sakshi Agarwal. Nalan Kumarasamy’s segment has Aditi Balan and Vijay Sethupathi playing a married couple.
