Mega announcement on the way; Mammootty to team up with Murali Gopy and Vijay Babu

Mammootty seems to be busy signing projects these days. The superstar already has a handful in his kitty and if the buzz is true, he has added one more. He is set to team up with Murali Gopy and Vijay Babu for a big-scale project. Vijay Babu, who heads Friday Film House, took to his Facebook page to share his excitement with his followers. Though he refused to divulge further details, he confirmed that it will be his banner’s biggest project till date.

Mammootty and Vijay Babu were supposed to work together in ‘Kottayam Kunjachan 2’ but the project never took off after its hugely hyped announcement. Murali Gopy has also often hinted about his eagerness to work with the veteran star. If things go well, a an ambitious project is certainly in the making.

Mammootty meanwhile is getting ready to start shooting for ‘Bheeshma Parvam’ directed by Amal Neerad. Scripted by newcomers Devadath Shaji, Ravi Sankar and RJ Murugan, it is said to be a gangster film. Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi and Shine Tom Chacko are also part of the cast.

Mammootty has also committed for projects with debutante director Ratheena Sharshad, Vysakh, Ranjith and Nissam Basheer of ‘Kettyolaanu Ente Malakha’ fame.

The sneak peek video of upcoming Tamil film ‘Kutty Story’ has just been released online. It is a sequence featuring Aditi Balan and Vijay Sethupathi, who both are probably involved in an extra marital affair.

‘Kutty Story’ is actually an anthology film that marks the coming together of popular directors Gautham Vasudev Menon, Venkat Prabhu, AL Vijay and Nalan Kumarasamy z coming together for a new anthology film titled The film, which shot during the initial days of pandemic, is gearing up for theatrical release. Meanwhile, the makers have shared the trailer online. It is evident that the film is about relationships between various couples.

‘Kutty Story’ also stars Amala Paul, Gautham Menon, Megha Akash, Vinoth Kishan, Sakshi Agarwal, Amitash, Sangita Krish and Varun. Gautham Menon himself is playing the lead in his segment along with Amala Paul. Amitash and Megha Akash are part of AL Vijay’s film while Venkat Prabhu’s film stars Varun and Sakshi Agarwal.

‘Kutty Story’ has camera handled by Manoj Paramahamsa, Arvind Krishna, Shanmugasundaram and Sakthi Saravanan. Music is composed by Karthik, Madhu, Edwin Louis Viswanath and Premgi. Anthony, Sreekar Prasad and
Praveen KL have edited the film.

‘Kutty Story’ is scheduled to hit screens on February 12.

Vellam director’s next starring Jayasurya and Manju Warrier begins!

After the recently released ‘Vellam’, director Prajesh Sen has started works on his new film. Jayasurya and Manju Warrier are playing the lead roles in the film and its shoot kick-started on Monday at Thiruvananthapuram. Interestingly, this is the first time Jayasurya and Manju Warrier will be seen sharing screen space. Nothing much is known regarding the film, including its genre or plot details. B Rakesh of Universal Cinema is producing the film.

Prajesh Sen’s previous two films also had Jaysurya in the lead. His directorial debut ‘Captain’, which was a biopic on late Indian footballer VP Sathyan, was critically acclaimed and won Jayasurya the Kerala State Award for Best Actor. His recent film ‘Vellam’ has Jayasurya playing a drunkard’s role. Hitting screens on January 22, the film opened to mixed reviews with Jayasurya’s performance getting unanimous praise.

Koozhangal wins Hivos Tiger Award 2021 at the International Film Festival Rotterdam

Tamil film ‘Pebbles’ (Koozhangal in Tamil), which had its world premiere at this year’s International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), has won the prestigious Hivos Tiger Award 2021, the top honour at the festival. It is only the second Indian film and first from Tamil to bag the award. Malayalam filmmaker Sanal Kumar Sasidharan’s ‘Sexy Durga’ had bagged the honour at the 2017 edition.

‘Pebbles’ is the directorial debut of Vinothraj PS. The film is set in the backdrop of Arittapatti, a drought-ridden village in Tamil Nadu. It follows the journey that an abusive alcoholic man takes with his young son as he sets out to bring back his wife who has fled his abuse. Karuththadaiyan and Chella Pandi played the lead roles.

After winning the Hivos Tiger Award, director Vinothraj took to his Twitter handle to thank the jury for selecting his film. He tweeted,

“Feeling emotional! Pebbles won the Tiger Award 2021. Our Hardwork, patience & Dream finally came true.Thank you all for your love and support.”

‘Pebbles’ is backed by Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivn under the banner of Rowdy Pictures.

“First Production of @Rowdy_Pictures wins one of the most prestigious international award! First Tamil film to win this award,” tweeted Vignesh Shivan.

Malayali filmmaker Geetu Mohandas, known for her films ‘Liars Dice’ and ‘Moothon’, also heaped praise on ‘Koozhangal’ and its makers. She particularly praised Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan for deciding to back the film and director Ram for mentoring Vinothraj.

Bheeshma Parvam cast and crew details revealed

Mammootty’s next with Amal Neerad has been titled as ‘Bheeshma Parvam’ and its first look poster dropped in on Sunday. The superstar looked stunningly royal in the poster and it instantly raised the expectations. The unexpected announcement came as a big surprise and almost all the leading M-Town celebs have shared the posters in their social media handles.

‘Bheeshma Parvam’ is scripted by newcomers Devadath Shaji, Ravi Sankar and RJ Murugan. Devadath Shaji, who was previously an assistant director in ‘Kumbalangi Nights’, took to his Facebook handle to share his excitement in turning a scenarist for such a big project. He has written,

‘Bheeshma Parvam’ cast also comprises of Soubin Shahir, Shine Tom Chacko, Sreenath Bhasi, Maala Parvathy and Lena. The film will have cinematography by Anend C Chandran of ‘Premam’ fame. Sushin Shyam, who composed music for Amal Neerad’s last film ‘Varathan’, is most likely to be retained.

The makers are planning to start shooting by the second week of February.

Parvathy starrer Varthamanam release date announced

After all the delays, Parvathy’s ‘Varthamanam’ is finally gearing up for release. The makers have announced that the film will be hitting screens on March 12. Directed by National award winner Sidhartha Siva, this film has been in the news for sometime now. Recently, it was embroiled in a controversy after the regional Censor Board denied permission to screen the film alleging that its theme is anti-national and could destroy religious harmony. After the issue heated up, the makers received a go-ahead from the Delhi Central Censor Board revising committee.

‘Varthamanam’ has Parvathy playing a character named Faiza Sufiya. She is a research student at the JNU. For the last few years, the university has been grabbing nationwide attention over the several political incidents and protests occurring in the campus. The film is actually inspired from these true events.

Aryadan Shoukath, another National award winner, has scripted it based on the current issues in the country. He is also producing the film along with Benazeer of Benzy Productions. Roshan Mathew, Siddique, Sanju Sivaram, Sudheesh, Nirmal Palazhi, Dain Davis and some non-Malayali actors are also part of the cast.

Tamil actor Suriya tests positive for Covid-19

Tamil star Suriya on Sunday took to his Twitter handle to reveal that he has tested positive for Covid-19. He said that he is currently undergoing treatment and is feeling better. He also requested his fans and followers to exercise caution during the pandemic as everyone’s lives have not yet come back to normal. In his tweet in Tamil, he also conveyed his gratitude and affection to the dedicated health workers who are working tirelessly.

On the professional front, Suriya will next begin shooting for Pandiraj’s film. Tentatively titled as ‘Suriya 40’, it is said to be a rural-based mass entertainer. Sun Pictures is producing the film. ‘Gang Leader’ fame Priyanka Arul Mohan has been signed as the female lead.

Suriya had recently completed shooting for a segment in the upcoming Netflix anthology ‘Navarasa’. Gautham Menon has directed the short, which marks the actor-director duo’s reunion after several years.

Suriya has also committed for projects with directors Siva and Vetrimaaran.

Vijay Sethupathi gets higher remuneration than Shahid Kapoor in Amazon’s upcoming web series!

We had earlier reported about Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi and Shahid Kapoor starring in Amazon Prime’s new web series. Reportedly titled as ‘Sunny’, the show will be directed by Raj and DK, who also made ‘The Family Man’. Raashi Khanna has also been signed to play a major role in it. The team is planning to kickstart the shoot shortly.

As per reports in various Bollywood-based medias, Vijay Sethupathi has asked a whopping Rs 55 crore as his remuneration for the season. Shahid Kapoor meanwhile has asked for Rs 40 crores. Reportedly, Shahid has also reportedly in his contract that he wants a fee hike if the show gets renewed for another season. No such clause has been added by Vijay Sethupathi in his contract. As of now, the makers are planning to span the series across three seasons.

Though Vijay Sethupathi’s remuneration is surprisingly hefty, the makers have decided to go ahead with it considering his popularity all across the South. The series is expected to be an action-thriller made on a big scale. It will be released in all major languages.

Mamta Mohandas joins Vishal and Arya in Enemy

Anand Shankar of ‘Arima Nambi’ and ‘Irumugan’ fame is directing an action thriller titled ‘Enemy’. The film has Vishal and Arya playing the lead roles. Latest addition to the cast is Malayali actress Mamta Mohandas. This marks her comeback to Tamil after quite a long gap. She recently did a film titled ‘Oomai Vizhigal’ with Prabhudeva but it seems to have been shelved for now.

‘Enemy’ is said to be a mass, action-packed entertainer made on a big scale. While Vishal plays the lead role, Arya essays the villain’s part. The two have earlier act together in Bala’s ‘Avan Ivan’. They were also supposed to team up for ‘Irumbu Thirai’ but it didn’t materialize. Veteran actor Arjun replaced Arya in the film.

Apart from Mamta Mohandas, ‘Enemy’ has Mirnalini Ravi of ‘Super Deluxe’ fame as the other female lead. SS Thaman is handling the music department and cinematography is by RD Rajasekhar.

The makers of Vijay-Vijay Sethupathi starrer ‘Master’ have released a deleted scene online. It is a four-minute long scene that should have ideally come right after the intro fight and ‘Vaathi Coming’ song. Ever since its release last day, netizens are wondering why such an important scene got removed from the film.

Vijay is seen delivering relevant dialogues like a how a woman should not be judged based on her dress and how it doesn’t invite rape. Though the scenes have a lecture-like done and are slightly patronising, the fact that a big star like Vijay is delivering it means that the message would reach out to a wide audience. It is also a reparation of sorts by the actor, who himself has delivered regressive dialogues about a woman’s dressing in films like ‘Sivakasi’.

‘Master’ directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj hit screens on January 13. Despite the pandemic situation and crowd restrictions in theatres, the film emerged as a huge blockbuster. The film is currently streaming in Amazon Prime Video. Even after the OTT release, it is still running in few theatres in Tamil Nadu.
