Mamta Mohandas paired with Arya in Enemy

Mamta Mohandas has joined the cast of Vishal-Arya starrer ‘Enemy’. Anand Shankar of ‘Arima Nambi’ and ‘Irumugan’ fame is directing the film, which is touted to be an action thriller. While Vishal plays the protagonist, Arya essays the villain role. Interestingly, Mamta is paired with Arya in the film. Though Mamta has worked with Vishal previously in ‘Sivapathigaram’, this is her first outing with Arya. Mirnalini Ravi of ‘Super Deluxe’ fame is the other female lead. Prakash Raj is also there in a prominent role.

‘Enemy’ is said to be a mass, action-packed entertainer made on a big scale. The film was initially planned to be shot in Malaysia but due to the pandemic, the makers have decided to film the portions in UAE. The team will start shooting in the Emirates from next week. RD Rajasekhar is cranking the camera and music is by S Thaman. The film is produced by S Vinod Kumar under the banner of Mini Studio.

We had already reported about Suriya and Gautham Menon teaming up for a segment in the upcoming Netflix anthology ‘Navarasa’. In a recent interview, the director revealed that the film is based on a popular Ilaiyaraaja song. Apparently, Menon had sought permission from Ilaiyaraaja before using it in the film. Suriya is said to be playing a musician’s role in it. Malayali actress Prayaga Martin plays the female lead. Ace cinematographer PC Sreeram wields the camera for this film.

‘Navarasa’ is a 9-part anthology film with each segment based on the 9 human emotions or navarasas. Karthik Subbaraj, Karthick Naren, KV Anand, Ponram, Rathindran Prasad, Arvind Swami, Bejoy Nambiar and Halitha Shameem have also directed a segment each. The cast includes popular names like Arvind Swami, Vijay Sethupathi, Revathy, Prakash Raj, Nithya Menen, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Rajesh, Poorna, Rythvika, Gautham Karthik, Prasanna, Bobby Simha and Vikranth. Mani Ratnam is headlining this ambitious project.

Watch: Drishyam 2 new teaser reveals that the investigation is still on!

As ‘Drishyam 2’ gears up for its world premiere on February 19 in Amazon Prime Video, the makers have shared a new teaser. From this short teaser, we get to see that Georgekutty and family are not yet out of trouble as the investigation regarding Varun murder case is still continuing. Murali Gopy, who seems to be playing a high rank police officer, heads the investigation now. The teaser manages to pique one’s curiosity as what happens to the family next.

According to director Jeethu Joseph, ‘Drishyam 2’ will be more intense and emotional than the first part. From the trailer, we got to learn that Georgekutty is a theatre owner and a film producer now. Mohanlal Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil, Siddique, Asha Sharath and Aneesh Menon are reprising their roles. Murali Gopy, Ganesh Kumar, Sai Kumar and Anjali Nair are some of the new additions to the film’s cast.

Swasika Vijay, Roshan Mathew and Santhy Balachandran in Sidharth Bharathan’s Chathuram

Actor-turned-filmmaker Sidharth Bharathan has started works on his new film. Titled as ‘Chathuram’, it stars Swasika Vijay, Roshan Mathew, Santhy Balachandran and Alencier Ley Lopez in the lead roles. The film is being produced by Vinitha Ajit, George Sandiago, Jamneesh Thayyil and Sidharth Bharathan under the banners of Greenwich entertainments and Yellove Bird productions.

Sidharth has also co-written the film with Vinoy Thomas. Pradeesh Verma is the cinematographer and music department is handled by Prashant Pillai. Deepu Joseph has been assigned as the editor. Art Director Akhilraj Chirayil, costume designer Stephy Zaviour, make up artist Abilash M, stunt choreographer Mafia Sasi and sound designer Vicky are also part of the technical team.

Sidharth Bharathan’s another film, ‘Djinn’ starring Soubin Shahir is set for release. Though shoot was completed somtime back, it got delayed due to the pandemic. The film is scripted by Rajesh Gopinadhan, who had earlier penned the Dulquer starrer ‘Kali’. Santhy Balachandran, Leona Lishoy, Shine Tom Chacko and Sharafudheen also star in it.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has announced the list of 15 feature films that will compete to make it to the final five in the Best International Feature Film category. Unfortunately, Lijo Jose Pellissery’s ‘Jallikattu’, India’s official entry in the category, could not find a spot and found itself out of the race.

‘Jallikattu’ is one of the most talked about films in Indian cinema in recent years. The Malayalam language film is an action drama that explored the beastly side of man. Antony Varghese, Sabumon, Santhy Balachandran and Chemban Vinod played the lead roles. It is only the third Malayalam film after ‘Guru’ (1997) and ‘Adaminte Makan’ (2011) to represent India at the Oscars.

This year, films from 93 countries were eligible in the Best International Feature Film category, which is the most in Oscars history.

Dhanush completes dubbing for Karnan; Film gearing up for theatrical release

The makers of Dhanush’s eagerly awaited ‘Karnan’ had recently announced that the film will be hitting screens in April. The team is currently busy finishing the post-production works. Dhanush completed dubbing for his portions last day. He informed the same through his social media handle by sharing a photo from the dubbing studio.

‘Karnan’ is a rural-based film that is partly inspired from real life incidents. Mari Selvaraj’s debut film ‘Pariyerum Perumal’ was a widely acclaimed one that spoke about Dalit politics. Similar to that, ‘Karnan’ is also expected to have hard-hitting politics in it. Recently, music director Santhosh Narayanan had tweeted that he was left stunned after watching the film.

‘Karnan’ has Malayali actress Rajisha Vijayan as the female lead. The supporting cast also includes Lal, Lakshmipriya Chandramouli, Azhagar Perumal, Natty aka Natarajan Subramanian, ’96’ fame Gouri Kishan and Yogi Babu. Kollywood’s veteran producer Kalipuli S Thanu is producing the film under the banner of V Creations.

Thala Ajith’s ‘Valimai’ directed by H Vinoth has been eagerly awaited by the fans. The film went on floors in 2019-end and got delayed due to the pandemic. The makers still have a foreign schedule left for the entire shoot to be completed.

Meanwhile, fans have been extremely disappointed with the makers for not sharing regular updates. Though #ValimaiUpdate is a regularly trending hashtag in Twitter, the team has remained tight-lipped about the project. However, much to the delight of the fans, a location still has been leaked online. It looks like a family photo in which a clean-shaven Ajith is seen holding his on-screen mom Sumithra’s hand. Kannada actor Achyuth Kumar, known for his roles in films like ‘Vikram Vedha’, ‘Kavaludaari’ and ‘KGF’, is the only other known actor in the photo.

‘Valimai’ is said to be a cop-action thriller made on a lavish budget. It will also be Ajith’s first pan-Indian film with a Hindi release as well. Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi plays the female lead. Telugu actor Karthikeya Gummakonda will be seen as the antagonist in the film.

‘Valimai’ has Yuvan Shankar Raja as the music director and Nirav Shah as the cinematographer. Boney Kapoor is producing the film.

Mammootty is known for introducing several new filmmakers. Amal Neerad, Aashiq Abu, Anwar Rasheed and Martin Prakkat are some of them who got launched by the superstar and later went on to make it big in the industry. Latest to the club is Shibu Basheer, a journalist-turned-filmmaker. His debut directorial starring Mammootty is scripted by Murali Gopy. Vijay Babu of Friday Film House is producing the film.

An excited Shibu took to his social media handle to share his happiness in helming such a big project. He also expressed his gratitude to Mammootty, Murali Gopy, Vijay Babu and his friends and family members for showing the faith and standing by him.

Shibu Basheer’s post reads,

Happiness is too small a word and gratitude could sound too inexpressive….but the kind of emotional state i am right now i will have to fall back on those two words though they hardly convey my sentiments….there are far too many people i have to thank for, the stalwarts of movie industry Mammootty Sir, Murali Gopy Vijay Babu who reposed faith in me and my family and friends who stood with me and backed my dream even when it seemed going nowhere at times….this is just a humble beginning and i am very grateful for this opportunity and values it immensely as i know only too well that there are thousands out there harbouring the same dream….thanks again to everyone…and let ur prayers be with me as you have done all along…..

This is Murali Gopy’s first outing as a scenarist with Mammootty and expectations will be huge particularly after the record-breaking success of ‘Lucifer’. Vijay Babu has also added that it a dream-come-true project made on a huge scale.

‘Thamaasha’ director Ashraf Hamza is next helming a film titled ‘Bheemante Vazhi’. Kunchacko Boban, Thamaasha’ fame Chinnu Chandni and Chemban Vinod Jose play the major roles in it. Last day, the makers wrapped up the film. Shoot got completed in just around 40 days time. The team shot the film majorly in and around Malappuram region.

‘Bheemante Vazhi’ is jointly produced by Chemboski Motion Pictures, headed by ace filmmaker Lijo Jose Pellissery and Chemban Vinod Jose, and OPM Cinemas, headed by Aashiq Abu-Rima Kallingal duo. Chemban Vinod is also scripting the film. It is his second outing as a scenarist after the widely acclaimed ‘Angamaly Diaries’.

‘Bheemante Vazhi’ has Girish Gangadharan as the cinematographer and ‘Ambili’ fame Vishnu Vijayan as the music director. Muhsin Parari is penning the song lyrics. The makers are yet to reveal any details regarding the film’s genre and other cast members.

Shoot for Dulquer Salmaan’s new film with Rosshan Andrrews is currently progressing. Bollywood actress Diana Penty, who has been signed as the female lead, has joined the team. The actress took to her Instagram handle to share a photo taken with Dulquer from the sets. She also wrote about how excited she is on working on her first Malayalam film. Diana is noted for her roles in Hindi films like ‘Cocktail’, ‘Lucknow Central’ and ‘Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran’.

Rumoured to be titled as ‘Salute’, the Dulquer-Rosshan Andrrews film is said to be a cop thriller. Bobby-Sanjay duo is scripting the film. If it is true, Dulquer will be seen playing a full-fledged police role for the first time in his career. The star himself is producing the film under his banner Wayfarer Films. Veteran actor Manoj K Jayan is also essaying a major role.

Details regarding the technical crew members are yet to be announced.
