Prabhu Deva to play a major role in Kamal Haasan-Lokesh film Vikram

As announced earlier, Kamal Haasan is teaming up with the highly promising Lokesh Kanagaraj for a new film titled ‘Vikram’. The superstar’s own production house Raaj Kamal Film International (RKFI) is producing the film, which is planned as a summer 2021 release planned to go on floors in early before the general elections.

As per latest reports, actor-filmmkar Prabhu Deva has been roped in to play a major role in the film. If it is true, Kamal and Prabhu Deva will be sharing screen space after 23 long years. They last worked together in the 1998 hit comedy film ‘Kadhala Kadhala’. Earlier, there were also rumours about the makers of ‘Vikram’ approaching Malayali actor Fahadh Faasil to play the villain role. However, there has been no confirmation yet.

‘Vikram’ is said to be a spin-off of Kamal Hassan’s character from the 1986 film of the same name. Even in the title teaser of the new film, the same iconic background score from the yesteryear film was reused. Anirudh Ravichander is the composer.

It was a traditional church wedding attended by close friends and family members. Superstar Mohanlal and his whole family comprising of wife Suchithra, son Pranav and daughter Vismaya attended the wedding ceremony.

In what seemed like a black themed event, Mammootty was at his majestic best with his twirled moustache and beard. Mohanlal also looked stylish wearing a black blazzer. Photos of the two superstars together have gone viral in social medias. Ramesh Pisharody, who took photos with the Big Ms, shared it in his social media handle with a funny caption that read, ‘Men In Black’.

Charlie Tamil remake: Here’s the trailer of Madhavan-Shraddha Srinath starrer Maara

As we already reported, Dulquer Salmaan’s ‘Charlie’ is getting remade in Tamil as ‘Maara’. Madhavan is playing the lead role in the film with Shraddha Srinath and Sshivada as the heroines. Debutant Dhilip Kumar is directing the film, which is set for a direct release on Amazon Prime Video on January 8. The makers have now released the trailer online.

‘Charlie’ directed by Martin Prakkat was a huge hit, both critically and commercially. The film starring Dulquer Salmaan and Parvathy as the leads went on to win several awards as well. It is learnt that the Tamil version has been tweaked to suit the sensibilities of the Tamil audience.

Shraddha Srinath is reprising Parvathy’s character from the original while Sshivada reprises the role played by Aparna Gopinath. Abhirami, Kishore, Alexander Babu, MS Baskar, Guru Somasundaram and veteran Moulee will be seen in other major roles. The film has music scored by Ghibran.

Nivin Pauly to star in Peranbu director Ram’s next

Buzz is that acclaimed Tamil filmmaker Ram is planning to rope in Nivin Pauly for his next. Suresh Kamatchi, who is producing Simbu’s upcoming film ‘Maanadu’, will be backing this project as well. As things are still in the early stages, an official announcement is expected to be made only after finalizing the remaining cast and crew.

Ram is one of the most revered filmmakers in Kollywood. He has made critically acclaimed films like ‘Kattradhu Tamizh’, ‘Thanga Meengal’ and ‘Taramani’. His last film ‘Peranbu’ starring Malayalam superstar Mammootty was a widely appreciated one that went on to be screened in several international film festivals. It will be interesting to see how he utilizes an actor like Nivin Pauly.

Nivin, meanwhile, has multiple projects lined up in Malayalam. He recently finished shooting for ‘Kanakam Kamini Kalaham’ directed by Ratheesh Balakrishnan of ‘Android Kunjappan’ fame. The actor still has a few portions left to be shot for ‘Padavettu’. His much-hyped film, ‘Thuramukham’ is set for its world premiere at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR). ‘Gangster of Mundanmala’, ‘Bismi Special’ and an untitled film with Abrid Shine are his other projects in the pipeline.

Official: Master theatrical release date announced

The makers of Vijay’s hugely hyped film ‘Master’ have announced the release date. The film is getting released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi languages. While the Tamil and Telugu versions will be out on January 13, the dubbed Hindi version will be released on January 14. B4U Motion Pictures is releasing the film in Hindi.

As ‘Master’ gears up for a pan-India release, the film has huge expectations among the masses. It was supposed to hit screens in April itself during the summer holidays, but due to the pandemic, the makers were forced to postpone it. Industry insiders and theatre owners have pinned high hopes as the film’s release is expected to be a big booster for the industry commercially.

‘Master’ directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj has Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi playing the lead roles. While Vijay plays an alcoholic college professor, Vijay Sethupathi essays the antagonist’s role of a gangster. Malavika Mohanan, Andrea Jeremiah, Mahendran, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Arjun Das, Gouri Kishan and many others are part of the supporting cast.

Tovino Thomas has wrapped up the shoot of his new film ‘Kala’, directed by Rohit VS. It is a man v/s wild tale that has Tovino essaying a character named Shaji. The actor has put a lot of efforts for the film. He even got injured while shooting for an action sequence and had to be hospitalised after sustaining internal injuries. In a brief note shared in his Facebook page, Tovino has reminisced how years back he used to be in the company of the same team of ‘Kala’ discussing and making short films. His post reads,

Years ago with cinema in my dreams, I used to be in the company of this same team of Kala, discussing and making short films. Now, we have made cinema, and with the purest of passions.
Kala was hard. Real hard. But this mutual love we had for cinema made it all possible. And I’m sure this team’s passion will make Kala all the more wholesome as it reaches you. Let’s hope that happens soon.

‘Kala’ has Tovino and Divya Pillai in the lead roles. A foreign breed canine, Cane Corso dog, will also be seen in an important role.

Vineeth Sreenivasan-Pranav Mohanlal film Hridayam shoot to resume next month

Vineeth Sreenivasan’s upcoming directorial ‘Hridayam’ starring Pranav Mohanlal and Kalyani Priyadarshan as the leads is hugely awaited by the Malayali audience. The team was shooting in Chennai when the lockdown was announced. Ever since then, they have been on a break as the film demands to be shot outdoor with several crowd sequences. The latest we hear is that the makers are planning a 35-day long schedule starting from January first week.

According to Vineeth Sreenivasan, ‘Hridayam’ is about a group of individuals and their life journey. Vineeth has taken real-life inspirations to script this film. Major portions of the film have been shot in the same engineering college in which Vineeth and his wife Divya studied.

Pranav, Kalyani and ‘Mayaanadhi’ fame Darshana Rajendran play the central characters. Aju Varghese, Vijayaragavan, Baiju, Arun Kurian and several newcomers are part of the cast. It is also a musically rich film with over 12 songs. Hesham Abdul Wahab is handling the music department.

Shine Tom Chacko-Rajisha starrer Love selected for the 25th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK)

Kerala State Chalachitra Academy had recently announced the list of Indian films selected for screening at the 25th edition of the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK). From Malayalam, Lijo Jose Pellissery’s ‘Churuli’ and Jayaraj’s ‘Haasayam’ were selected in the International Competition section. Khalid Rahman’s ‘Love’ found a place in the Malayalam Cinema Today category.

The film starring Shine Tom Chacko and Rajisha Vijayan in the leads was among the first Indian films to be made and released in theatres during the pandemic days During the initial lockdown days, director Khalid Rahman shot the film with a small team. Along with Shine Tom and Rajisha Vijayan who play a couple, Sudhi Koppa, ‘Kettyolaan Ente Malakha’ fame Veena Nandakumar, Sudhi Koppa, Gokulan and Johny Antony are also part of the supporting cast.

Khalid Rahman and editor Noufal Abdullah have co-written the film, which is set entirely in an apartment complex. The director’s brother Jimshi Khalid handled the cinematography and music is done by Neha Nair and Yakzan Gary Pereira. The team shot the film in just around 20 days by following all the government protocols. It was later released in theatres in the Gulf region on October 15. It is incredible that a film made within such restrictions managed to make it to the prestigious film festival screening.

‘Gramavrikshathile Kuyil’, ‘C U Soon’, ‘Musical Chair’, ‘Attention Please’, ‘Vaanku’, ‘Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam’, ‘Paka’, ‘Paavam Cheyyathavar Kalleriyatte’, ‘Android Kunjappan Version 2.5’ and ‘Kayattam’ are the other films selected for screening in this year’s IFFK’s Malayalam Cinema Today category.

The authorities are planning to host the IFFK from February 12 to 19, if the COVID-19 pandemic eases. The festival, usually held in December every year, was postponed as the usual schedule was impossible in the current situation.

Kalidas Jayaram is currently basking in the glory of the excellent response he has been getting for his performance in the recently released Tamil anthology, ‘Paava Kadhaigal’. His segment ‘Thangam’ directed by Sudha Kongara is rated by many as the best among the four films in the anthology. Kalidas played the role of a transwoman in the film and his performance has been getting appreciation from all corners.

In a recent interview, the actor revealed that he shed close to 12 kgs within 45 days for the film. Though he shot for only 8 days, the character had a lasting impact on him and it took him a lot of time to come out of it. When he has first offered the role, the actor was in two minds and he even thought of quitting cinema if he was not able to pull it off. As part of preparations, he interacted a lot with a real life transgender friend named Jeeva and ensured that the performance doesn’t appear exaggerated or some sort of mimicry.

Censor Board denies permission to screen Parvathy’s Varthamanam

The regional Censor Board has reportedly denied permission to screen Parvathy’s new film ‘Varthamanam’. It is directed by National Award winning filmmaker Sidhartha Siva of ‘101 Chodyangal’ and ‘Sakhavu’ fame. The board officials have alleged that the film’s theme is anti-national and could destroy religious harmony..

Sandeep Kumar, a member of the board had tweeted that the film touches Muslim – Dalit persecution at Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). The tweet was deleted later. After the regional censor board denied screening permission, ‘Varthamanam’ team is expected to submit the film to the CBFC revising committee in Mumbai.

‘Varthamanam’ has Parvathy playing a character named Faiza Sufiya. She is a research student at the JNU. For the last few years, the university has been grabbing nationwide attention over the several political incidents and protests occurring in the campus. The film is actually inspired from these true events. National award winner Aryadan Shoukath has scripted it based on the current socio-political issues in the country. He is also producing the film along with Benazeer of Benzy Productions.

Roshan Mathew, noted for his roles in ‘Moothon’ and ‘Kappela’, plays Parvathy’s romantic interest in ‘Varthamanam’. Veteran Siddique will be seen as a college professor named Podhuval in the film. Sudheesh, Nirmal Palazhi, Dain Davis and many other non-Malayali actors are also part of the cast.
