Last day, the team had successfully wrapped up the climax shoot. Prashanth called Sanjay Dutt, who resumed shoot after recovering from cancer, a true warrior in real life as well. He has tweeted,

Stunt duo AnbAriv, who won the National award for their work in the first chapter, has choreographed the fight scenes in the second part as well. Thanks to the humongous success of the first chapter, ‘KGF 2’ is eagerly awaited by cinephiles across the country. The film will be releasing in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi languages.

Soorarai Pottru to be screened at the 78th Golden Globe Awards

Suriya starrer ‘Soorarai Pottru’ has been selected for screening at the 78th Golden Globe Awards. The prestigious event will be held this coming January in Los Angeles. It is indeed a phenomenal achievement for a South Indian film. Directed by Sudha Kongara, ‘Soorarai Pottru’ is about a commoner’s dream to start a commercial airline for the common man in India when flying was considered a privilege that was reserved only for the wealthy. The story is inspired from the life of Captain GR Gopinath, the founder of Air Deccan.

‘Soorarai Pottru’ was supposed to release in theatres in the first half of the year but the makers eventually had to resort to a direct OTT release due to the pandemic. Upon its release in Amazon Prime Video on November 12, the film garnered highly positive reviews from the critics as well as the common audience. Suriya’s performance was rated as his best in several years. Aparna Balamurali, who played the female lead’s part also won widespread appreciation.

Vijay Sethupathi and Shahid Kapoor to team up a new web series!

Buzz is that Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi will be acting in a new web series that also has Shahid Kapoor and Malavika Mohanan. The director duo of Raj and DK will be helming this project for Amazon Prime Video. It is planned as an action-thriller that will have both Shahid and Vijay in never seen before roles. The untitled show will also mark Vijay Sethupathi’s debut in a series on the OTT platform. The team plans to kickstart the shoot from January in Mumbai and Goa. Official announcement is still awaited.

Raj-DK duo is noted for making India’s first zombie film ‘Go Goa Gone’ and the horror-comedy blockbuster ‘Stree’. They are best known for best known for creating and directing the hit series, ‘The Family Man’ for Amazon Prime. The show starring Manoj Bajpai was hugely successful and its second season is now gearing up for release. South Indian actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu is said to be playing the antagonist this time.

Director Lal Jose had recently started shooting for his new film that has Soubin Shahir and Mamta Mohandas as the leads. Dr Iqbal Kuttippuram is scripting the film, which is set majorly in Dubai. Last day, the makers announced that the film has been titled as ‘Meow’. It comes with the tagline ‘A Desert Family Drama’. The film has Soubin and Mamta Mohandas as a married couple. The story is set in two different timelines of their lives. Along with them, veteran Salim Kumar will also be seen in a major role.

It is Lal Jose-Iqbal Kuttippuram combo’s fourth film together after delivering hits with ‘Arabikatha’, ‘Diamond Necklace’ and ‘Vikramadithyan’. Interestingly, the first two films were also centered around the lives of Malayalis living in Dubai. Some NRI Malayalis are also acting in ‘Meow’.

Ajmal Sabu is the DOP and veteran Ranjan Abraham has been assigned as the editor. Justin Varghese of ‘Njandukalude Naatil Oridavela’ and ‘Thanneer Mathan Dhinangal’ fame is the music director. The film is being produced by Thomas Thiruvalla.

Kaala, Kabali composer Santhosh Narayanan to make his Malayalam debut with Tovino’s next

One of the leading music directors in Tamil film industry, Santhosh Narayanan is all set to make his Malayalam debut. He will be composing for Tovino’s upcoming film to be directed by debutant Darwin Kuriakose. Jinu V Abraham, who has penned films like ‘Masters’, ‘London Bridge’ and also directed ‘Adam Joan’, is scripting this film. As per the makers, the film demands a composer like Santhosh Narayanan and they are excited to have him on board.

Santhosh Narayanan is popular for his work in films like ‘Jigarthanda’, ‘Madras’, ‘Cuckoo’, ‘Kaala’, ‘Kabali’ and ‘Vada Chennai’. He along with filmmakers like Pa Ranjith, Karthik Subbaraj and Nalan Kumarasamy triggered a new wave in Tamil cinema. Santhosh’s music is known for its rootedness. Unlike his contemporaries, he has mostly done content-oriented films as his music always seamlessly jells in with the narrative. It will be interesting to see how he adapts himself to the sensibilities of the Malayali audience.

Drishyam 2 teaser to be out on New Year’s Day!

Superstar Mohanlal has announced that the teaser of his much-anticipated film ‘Drishyam 2’ will be out on New Year’s Day. The video has been planned to be released exactly at 00:00 on January 1. Post-production works are currently progressing in full swing as the film is set to be Mohanlal’s first release once theatres resume functioning.

‘Drishyam 2’ is the sequel to the record-breaking blockbuster that got released in 2013. Jeethu Joseph, who directed that film, is helming this one as well. The focus is once again on Georgekutty and family, who are still feeling the guilt of having committed the crime. According to Jeethu Joseph, the film will be an intense emotional drama.

Along with Mohanlal, actors like Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Siddique, Asha Sharath, Aneesh Menon and Esther Anil are also reprising their roles from the first part. Murali Gopy, Ganesh Kumar, Sai Kumar and Anjali Nair are the some of the new additions to the cast.

The film’s technical core crew comprises of DOP Satheesh Kurup, music director Anil Johnson and editor Vinayakan. Antony Perumbavoor is producing it under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas.

Nayanthara joins Fahadh Faasil in Alphonse Puthren’s Paattu

‘Premam’ director Alphonse Puthren had earlier announced that his next film will have Fahadh Faasil in the lead. Titled as ‘Paattu’, the film is a musical that will have Alphonse himself as the composer. Latest news is that Nayanthara has been signed as the female lead. The director made the official announcement just a while back through his Facebook page. He has written,

Happy to announce that Lady Superstar Nayanthara is joining our feature film ‘Paattu’. The hero is Fahadh Faasil and the heroine is Nayanthara. Will announce further updates about cast and crew soon .

‘Paattu’ will have Anend C Chandran as the cinematographer. Notably, he was also part of Alphonse’s previous two films — ‘Neram’ and ‘Premam’. Besides directing, scripting and composing, Alphonse will also be editing the film. Vishnu Govind and Sree Sankar will be handling the sound design. Zacharia Thomas and Alwin Antony are producing the film under the banner of UGM Entertainments.

Madhuram: June director’s next is a feel-good romantic flick

‘June’ director Ahammed Khabeer has started works on his next. Titled as ‘Madhuram’, the film has Joju George, Arjun Ashokan, Nikhila Vimal and Shruthi Ramachandran in the lead roles. Joju is also producing the film along with Sijo Vadakkan under the banner of Appu Pappu Pathu Production House. Shoot for the film commenced last Friday.

According to director Ahammed, ‘Madhuram’, as the title suggests, is a feel-good flick with mature romance in it. The film is scripted by newcomers Ashiq Aimar and Fahim Safar. Shruthi Ramachandran is paired with Joju in the film. Nikhila and Arjun Ashokan will be seen in equally important roles.

On the technical front, Jithin Stanislaus is the cinematographer and music is by Hesham Abdul Wahab. Mahesh Bhuvanend will be editing the film. Sound designer Dhanush Nayanar, sound mixer Vishnu Sujathan, makeup artist Ronex Xavier, costume designer Sameera Saneesh and art director Dileep Nath are also part of the technical crew.

After ‘June’, Ahammed Khabeer had announced another film with Joju titled as ‘Insha Allah’. But due to the pandemic, the makers have chose to do ‘Madhuram’ first, which is a comparatively small-scale project.
Ahammed is also scripting a film along with Libin Varghese for director Antony Sony of ‘C/O Saira Banu’ fame. Arjun Ashokan and Anna Ben were announced as the leads. That project again was supposed to begin earlier this year but it now seems to have been pushed.

5 Malayalam films selected in the Indian Panaroma section at the 51st International Film Festival of India

Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar announced that 20 non-feature and 23 feature films have been selected in the Indian Panaroma section at the 51st International Film Festival of India (IFFI). The 9-day festival, which was originally scheduled to take place in Goa from November 20-28, got postponed due to the pandemic. It will now be held from January 16 to January 24.

5 Malayalam films have also been selected in the Indian Panorama section. ‘Thahira’, ‘Kettyolaan Ente Malakha’, ‘Safe’, ‘Kappela’ and ‘Trance’ are the 5 films. ‘Saand Ki Aankh’ starring Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar, will be the opening film for the Panorama section at the festival. Late actor Sushanth Singh Rajput’s ‘Chhichhore’, ‘Kappela’ and the superhit Dhanush-Vetrimaaran film ‘Asuran’ are the three films in the Mainstream Cinema section.

The films were selected by an internal committee of Directorate of Film Festivals (DFF) based on the recommendations of Film Federation of India (FFI) and Producer’s Guild. Writer-director John Mathew Matthan headed the jury this year.

Malayankunj is a survival thriller about a natural calamity

Fahadh Faasil had recently announced his new project, ‘Malayankunj’. His father, veteran director Fazil is producing the film. It marks the father-son duo’s reunion after nearly two decades. Mahesh Narayanan is scripting the film and debutant Sajimon is directing it.

In an interview to The Cue, Fazil has revealed that ‘Malayankunj’ is a survival thriller that is based on a natural calamity. It tells the story of few ordinary people. Fazil also confirmed that the film will only be a theaterical release as it demands a big screen experience. The makers are currently finalizing the casting. Shoot is planned to begin in February.

The makers have assembled a talented technical crew. Sushin Shyam will be handling the music department and Arju Benn is charge of the edits. Sound designers Vishnu Shankar-Sree Govind, production designer Jyothish Shankar, costumer Dhanya Balakrishnan, production controller Benny Kattappana and make up artist Ranjith Ambady are also part of the team.
