Dhruv Vikram to team up with Pariyerum Perumal director Maari Selvaraj for a sports flick!

Dhruv Vikram made an impressive debut with ‘Adithya Varma’, the remake of blockbuster Telugu film ‘Arjun Reddy’. Though the Tamil version didn’t click at the box office, Dhruv’s performance in it earned appreciation from many. The youngster will be next seen sharing screen space with his father Vikram. Karthik Subbaraj is directing the film, which is said to be a gangster drama.

Meanwhile, reports have also emerged that Dhruv will be starring in a new sports film to be helmed by Maari Selvaraj. In a recent interview, director Pa Ranjith had confirmed that he is producing a sports film to be directed by Maari Selvaraj and a promising young actor will play the lead role in it. Speculations are rife that it is Dhruv who has given his nod for the film.

Maari Selvaraj’s debut film ‘Pariyerum Perumal’ was a big success, both critically and commercially, and it made him a director to watch out for. He is currently working on his second film ‘Karnan’ that has Dhanush in the lead. After its completion, he is expected to start works on the aforementioned sports flick.

Watch: Vidyut Jammwal’s Kalari 3rd Eye Training

Bollywood actor Vidyut Jammwal is a trained martial artiste who has learnt the traditional Indian martial art of Kalaripayattu since the age of 3. He has often stated that his vision is to popularise the indigenous martial art kalaripayattu through Indian cinema. The actor has also been training students and martial arts aspirants. Recently, he shared a video in his social media handle in which he is shown pulling off an incredible feat with blinded eyes.

According to the description in the YouTube video, “The eyes are useless when the mind is blind. Kalari 3rd eye training is the evolution of an individual and is a continuous process with focus and regularity.”

Before becoming an actor, Vidyut was a martial arts performer. He trained in Kalaripayattu in an ashram in Palakkad, Kerala since he was 3 years old, which was run by his mother. He traveled to several countries training with martial artists in various forms, some of which find their base in Kalaripayattu. After earning a degree in martial arts, he travelled to over 25 countries, where he performed in live action shows.

Vidyut shot to fame by playing the antagonist character in ‘Force’, which was the remake of the hit Tamil film, ‘Kaakha Kaakha’. He is also popular for his roles in films like ‘Thuppakki’, ‘Anjaan’ and the ‘Commando’ series. The action-thriller film ‘Khuda Haafiz’ that got premiered in Disney+Hotstar was his last release.

Indrajith Sukumaran and Anu Sithara team up for Anuradha Crime No. 59/2019

Indrajith Sukumaran and Anu Sithara are set to team up for the first time. The two will be seen playing the lead roles in a new film titled ‘Anuradha Crime No. 59/2019’. The film is directed by Shan Thulaseedharan. Angelina Antony, Shereef MP, Shyam Kumar S and Sino John Thomas are jointly producing the film under the banners of Guardian Angels and Golden S Pictures.

Shoot for the film has already begun in Ernakulam. From the title it looks like a crime thriller. Director Shan has co-scripted the film along with Jose Thomas Polackal. Vishnu Unnikrishnan, Harisree Ashokan, Surabhi Santhosh, Surabhi Lekshmi, Hareesh Kanaran, Jude Anthany Joseph, Ajai Vasudev, Manohari Joy, Sreejith Ravi, Anil Nedumangad, Sunil Sukhada and many others are part of the supporting cast.

Ajay David Kachappilly of ‘Porinju Mariam Jose’ fame is the cinematographer. Music is by Tony Joseph and Shyam Sashidharan will be handling the editing department.

It’s a wrap for Unni Mukundan starrer Meppadiyaan

Shoot for Unni Mukundan’s new film ‘Meppadiyaan’ has successfully been wrapped up. The film went on floors in October on the auspicious occasion of Vijayadhashami. It took just over a month for the entire shoot to be completed, which is a commendable effort taking in consideration the restrictions enforced due to the pandemic.

‘Meppadiyaan’ is written and directed by debutant Vishnu Mohan. The film is touted to be a complete family entertainer. Unni will be seen as an ordinary guy named Jayakrishnan in the film. Anju Kurian is paired with him. There is also an elaborate supporting cast comprising of actors like Indrans, Saiju Kurup, Aju Varghese, Vijay Babu, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Aparna Janardhanan, Nisha Sarang, Kundara Johny, Major Ravi, Sreejith Ravi, Kottayam Ramesh and Pauly Valsan.

In the technical side, Neil D’Cunha is the cinematographer and music is by Rahul Subramanian. Shameer Muhammad is the editor and art department is handled by Sabu Mohan. Unni Mukundan is producing the film under his own banner of UMF.

The same team behind this year’s superhit film ‘Anjaam Pathiraa’ team is coming together for another thriller. Producer Ashiq Usman made the official announcement by posting a selfie taken with lead actor Kunchacko Boban and director Midhun Manuel Thomas in his social media handle. Kunchacko Boban also shared the photo and wrote,

Kunchacko Boban’s post hints that the new film will be a sequel to ‘Anjaam Pathiraa’ with him reprising the role of Anwar Hussain, the criminal psychologist. The core technical team comprising of cinematographer Shyju Khalid, music director Sushin Shyam and editor Saiju Sreedharan are also expected to be retained.

‘Anjaam Pathiraa’, released in January this year, emerged as one of the biggest hits in Kunchacko Boban’s two-decade-long career. It was director Midhun Maneul Thomas’ first attempt in doing a thriller and he easily managed to satisfy majority of the audience. Midhun and his team will be hoping to repeat the success once again.

Pa Ranjith is one of the most distinctive voices in Tamil cinema today. Though just four-films old, the director has carved a niche for himself besides introducing several new talents. His films are political in nature and speak about about oppression and discrimination in the basis of caste and color. Ranjith shot to fame after he got the rare opportunity to make back to back films with superstar Rajinikanth.

In a recent interview, he revealed that Ranjith is eager to work with all the top stars. Interestingly, he had even narrated a superhero script to Vijay right after the release of ‘Kaala’. The star was impressed with the storyline and if things fall in place, they might take it forward.

Ranjith is quoted saying, “I want to work with all the leading stars. After Kaala, I met Vijay and narrated him a superhero subject. He also liked it. Let’s see”.

There are already numerous speculations about Vijay’s entry to politics and if at all he does a film with Pa Ranjith, it will only create a bigger impact. The director currently has some other commitments lined up. He is awaiting the release of
‘Sarpatta Parambarai’, his boxing-based film that has Arya in the lead.

Ranjith will next begin the shoot of his earlier announced Hindi film, which is based on Birsa Munda’s life story. During the lockdown phase, he had also directed an episode in an anthology for Disney + Hotstar along with filmmakers Venkat Prabhu, Chimbu Devan and Rajesh.

Watch the teaser of Amazon Prime’s new anthology flick, Unpaused

Amazon Prime Video is coming up with yet another anthology film, this time in Hindi. Director duo Raj Nidimoru – Krishna DK, Nikkhil Advani, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Avinash Arun and Nitya Mehra are teaming up for ‘Unpaused’, which is scheduled for release on December 18. All the five films in the anthology are centered around the themes of hope, second chances and new beginnings.

All the storylines are set during the lockdown days. It is exactly on the lines of Amazon’s recently released Tamil anthology ‘Putham Pudhu Kaalai’, which had films directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Karthik Subbaraj, Sudha Kongara and Rajiv Menon

In ‘Unpaused’, Raj-DK, duo’s film ‘Glitch’ has Gulshan Devaiah and ‘Choked’ fame Saiyami Kher as the leads. Nikkhil Advani’s film is titled as ‘Apartment’ and it stars Richa Chadha, Sumeet Vyas and Ishwak Singh. Tannishtha Chatterjee’s segment has ‘Sairat’ fame Rinku Rajguru and veteran stage-film actor Lillete Dubey.

Nitya Mehra’s film is titled as ‘Chaand Mubarak’ and it stars Ratna Pathak Shah and ‘Eeb Allay Ooo’ fame Shardul Bhardwaj. Avinash Arun, who shot and co-directed the hit web series ‘Paatal Lok’, has helmed the segment ‘Vishaanu’. ‘Soni’ actor Geetika Vidya and Abhishek Banerjee, who played the dreaded criminal Hathoda Tyagi in ‘Paatal Lok’, will be seen as the leads.

The trailer of Netflix’s maiden Tamil anthology, ‘Paava Kadhaigal’ has just been released in YouTube. Directors Gautham Vasudev Menon, Vetrimaaran, Sudha Kongara and Vignesh Shivan are helming a short film each in this anthology that is scheduled for release on December 18.

‘Paava Kadhaigal’, which translates to sin stories, has four storylines that will showcase how love, pride, sin and honour influence complex human relationships. As confirmed by the directors themselves, it will be a very intense film with several hard-hitting moments in it. The film will explore the intricacies of complex relationships through these gut-wrenching stories.

Vignesh Shivan’s film titled as ‘Love Panna Uttranum’ will be the quirkiest of the four. It stars Anjali and Bollywood actress Kalki Koechlin as the leads. From the trailer, it looks like the two play a lesbian couple. Anirudh has composed music for this film.

In Vetrimaaran’s film, ‘Or Iravu’, Sai Pallavi and Prakash Raj essay the lead roles. They will be seen as a father-daughter duo. Gautham Menon’s film has been titled as ‘Vaanmagal’ and it has the director himself playing the central character along with Simran.

Sudha Kongara’s film titled as ‘Thangam’ stars Kalidas Jayaram, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj and Bhavani Sre. Kalidas is essaying the role of a transgender in the film. ’96’ fame Aadithya Baaskar, Hari, Padam Kumar and many others are part of the anthology.

Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP Movies and Ashi Dua Sara’s Flying Unicorn Entertainment are jointly producing the film.
