First look poster of Simbu starrer Maanadu released

The first look poster of Simbu’s new film ‘Maanadu’ has been released. Venkat Prabhu is directing the film, which is a political thriller. Simbu plays a Muslim character named Adbul Khaaliq in the film. The first look features him doing Namaaz with a bullet wound in his forehead. The actor looks almost unrecognizable in his new look for the film.

‘Maanaadu’ has Kalyani Priyadrashan as the female lead. SJ Suryah, Bharathiraja, and Manoj Bharathi will also be seen in important roles. The film has Richard M Nathan as the cinematographer. Venkat Prabhu’s frequent collaborator Yuvan Shankar Raja has been retained as the composer.

‘Maanadu’ was supposed to go on floors much earlier. Last August, due to Simbu’s unavailability, the makers even removed him from the project. But after holding talks with his family and the involvement of various other industry veterans, Simbu rejoined the team. After going through a stunning physical transformation, the actor recently resumed shooting for his portions in Puducherry.

Dulquer Salmaan’s Kurup set for OTT release!

If reports are to be believed, one of the most anticipated Malayalam films of the season, ‘Kurup’ is getting an OTT release. Although the news is yet be confirmed by the makers, fans and cinephiles are already expressing their disappointment. Touted to be the biggest film in Dulquer’s career, ‘Kurup’ had massive hype right from the time of its announcement.

‘Kurup’ directed by Srinath Rajendran is based on India’s most wanted fugitive, Sukumara Kurup. He is accused of murdering a person named Chacko. He allegedly committed the crime to fake his own death and claim an insurance amount of Rs 8 lakhs by killing Chacko who bore a resemblance with him. Kurup is supposed to have fled abroad after the incident and has been absconding for over 30 years now. The Chacko murder case is one of the longest standing cases in the judicial history of Kerala

‘Kurup’ has its story penned by Jithin K Jose and screenplay written jointly by KS Aravind and Daniel Sayooj Nair. While Dulquer plays Kurup’s role, Indrajith Sukumaran essays the part of the investigating police officer. Tovino Thomas, Sunny Wayne, Sobhita Dhulipala, Shine Tom Chacko, Vijayaraghavan, Surabhi Lekshmi and many others are part of the supporting cast.

On the technical front, cinematographer Nimish Ravi of ‘Luca’ fame, music director Sushin Shyam, art director Vinesh Bangalan and editor Vivek Harshan form the core team. Dulquer’s Wayfarer Films is producing the film along with M Star Entertainment.

‘Kurup’ was originally supposed to hit screens earlier this year during the Eid season. But due to the Covid-19 scenario, the makers had to postpone it. A formal announcement confirmation regarding the OTT release is expected to be made soon.

As reported by us recently, Suriya and director Gautham Vasudev Menon are reuniting after a 12-year-long gap. It is for a segment in the upcoming anthology ‘Navarasa’ that will be streaming in Netflix. PC Sreeram is wielding the camera and shoot has already started. It seems like the veteran is having a great time working on the film.

Last day, he tweeted about how the film has a new narrative style and Suriya’s amazing performance in it. Along with sharing a location pic taken with Gautham Menon, PC tweeted,

It is worth a mention that PC Sreeram was also the DOP of Gautham Menon’s most recent work ‘Avarum Naanum/Avalum Naanum’, a short film in the anthology ‘Putham Pudhu Kaalai’ that got released in Amazon Prime Video last day.

‘Navarasa’ is an ambitious project that is being made for the welfare of the Tamil film industry members. Several big names are collaborating for this project, which is a compilation of 9 short films. Apart from Gautham Menon, directors like Karthik Subbaraj, Karthick Naren, KV Anand, Ponram, Rathindran Prasad, Arvind Swami, Bejoy Nambiar and Halitha Shameem are also helming a segment each.

The anthology is said to be based on Navarasas, the 9 human emotions, and each film will be based on one particular emotion. The cast includes Suriya, Arvind Swami, Vijay Sethupathi, Revathy, Nithya Menen, Parvathy Thiruvoth, Siddharth, Aishwarya Rajesh, Poorna, Rythvika, Prakash Raj, Gautham Karthik, Prasanna, Bonny Simha, Vikranth, Ashok Selvan and many others. Composers like AR Rahman, Ghibran, Imman, Justin Prabhakaran, Govind Vasantha and Ron Ethan Yohann are also part of the project.

All of them are working in the film without remuneration, with only the costs of production being associated. Mani Ratnam and Jayendra Panchapakesan are jointly producing the project.

Gayathri Suresh, noted for her roles in ‘Jamna Pyari’ and ‘Oru Mexican Aparatha’, will be next seen in the titular role in ‘Abhirami’, helmed by debutant Mushthaque Rahman Kariyaden. The film’s first look poster featuring an intense looking Gayathri got released online last day. From the title and poster, it is presumed to be a female oriented film. The makers have not yet revealed details regarding the film’s genre.

‘Abhirami’ also stars ‘Drishyam’ fame Roshan Basheer and Harikrishnan in major roles. The latter delivered an impressive performance earlier this year in ‘Anjaam Pathiraa’. The film is being produced by Amjith SK under the banner of Texas Film Factory.

‘Abhirami’ is scripted by Vaheed Saman. Shihab Ongallur will be handling the camera and editing will be done by Naveen P Vijayan. Sibu Sukumaran is in charge of the music department. Shoot for the film is scheduled to begin today (November 20).

Sudha Kongara has cemented a place in the top league of filmmakers in Kollywood courtesy the smashing success of ‘Soorarai Pottru’. The Suriya-Aparna Balamurali starrer has been unanimously lapped up and is already biggest hits among the OTT releases this year. Sudha’s excellent directorial skills in helming a film of such huge scale has been appreciated by many. The filmmaker is already in talks with some A-list stars in Tamil for her next.

In a recent interview to a Malayalam news portal, Sudha was asked about her favorite in Malayalam. Though she admits that Mohanlal and Mammootty are great actors, and she has watched most of their films, it is Dulquer Salmaan who she chose to be her favourite. The director also revealed why she admires Dulquer more. According to her, even if the film goes bad, Dulquer has always been given his best and she finds that an amazing quality.

The star meanwhile is working on his new Tamil film ‘Hey Sinamika’ that also stars Aditi Rao Hydari and Kajal Aggarwal. Popular dance choreographer Brinda is making her directorial debut with this film, which is said to be a fun, rom-com.

As reported by us earlier, Simbu is teaming up with director Venkat Prabhu for a political thriller titled ‘Maanadu’. Simbu plays a Muslim character named Adbul Khaaliq. The makers have now announced that the first look poster will be out on November 21. An announcement poster featuring Simbu doing Namaaz has been shared by the makers. It comes with the tagline ‘Stand for what is right even if it means standing alone’.

‘Maanaadu’ has Kalyani Priyadrashan as the female lead. SJ Suryah, Bharathiraja, and Manoj Bharathi will also be seen in important roles. The film will have music by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Shooting was earlier stalled due to the corona virus pandemic. After his stunning physcial transformation, Simbu recently resumed shooting for his portions in Puducherry.

Suseenthiran has also finished shooting and dubbing works for ‘Eeswaran’ directed by Susienthiran. It is a village based mass entertainer that has Nidhi Aggarwal as the female lead. Thaman is composing the music and Tirru is handling the cinematography. Madhav Media and D Company are jointly producing the film. The makers have announced that film will be a Pongal 2021 release.

Prabhas-Saif Ali Khan starrer Adipurush release date announced

Prabhas and Saif Ali Khan are coming together for ‘Adipurush’, a for a multilingual mega-budget film. Helmed by Om Raut, it is the big screen adaptation of Indian epic, Ramayana. While Prabhas plays the role of Lord Ram, Saif Ali Khan essays the antagonist role named as Lankesh, which is actually Raavan from the mythological epic. The makers have announced that the film will release worldwide on August 11, 2022.

Expectations on ‘Adipurush’ are massive as Om Raut brings together Prabhas and Saif Ali Khan for the first time. The director has already worked with Saif in ‘Tanhaji’, the biographical action-epic that also had Ajay Devgn in the lead. The film was a huge hit and is currently the highest grossing Bollywood film of 2020.

‘Adipurush’ is planned be made completely in 3D format. It will be shot simultaneously in Hindi and Telugu. It will also dubbed and released in Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada languages.T Series and Retrophiles production are jointly producing it.

Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu has tweeted in praise on Suriya’s latest release ‘Soorarai Pottru’. He called it an inspiring him that is brilliantly directed with great performances. He particularly mentioned about Surya being in top form. His tweet reads,

Earlier, Telugu star Vijay Deverakonda had also showered praise on the makers of ‘Soorarai Pottru’. The film directed by Sudha Kongara tells the story of a common man’s journey from humble backgrounds to accomplish his dream of launching his own aircraft business with the aim of serving the underprivileged. It is based on the real life of Captain GR Gopinath, the founder of Air Deccan.

Suriya’s performance has been rated by many as one of his finest in his whole career. Lead actress Aparna Balamurali and veteran Urvashi have also found appreciation. The film is currently streaming in Amazon Prime Video.

Over the last couple of years, there has been a major boom in digitial streaming platforms in India. Apart from feature films, cinephiles are also showing great interest towards web series. Multiple shows are currently being made in various languages. In Malayalam though, top league stars have still not entered the digital space.

Latest buzz is that Prithviraj Sukumaran and Shanker Ramakrishnan are set to team up for a web series. Talks within the industry suggest that the two are planning to adapt ‘Shadows Lie’, a fiction novel penned by Biju Antony into a full fledged series. Script works for the same have been progressing for the last few months. More details regarding the project are still awaited.

Shanker Ramakrishnan and Prithviraj have previously worked together in ‘Island Express’, a segment in the anthology film ‘Kerala Cafe’, and ‘Pathinettam Padi’. Prithviraj essayed a cameo role in the latter. Shanker had also announced a multilingual mythological film on lord Ayyappa with Prithviraj as the lead. Though it has been over a year since the announcement, no further updates have been made.
