Suraj Venjaramoodu and Sreenath Bhasi to star in Udhaya

Suraj Venjaramoodu and Sreenath Bhasi will be seen playing the lead roles in a new film titled ‘Udaya’. Superstar Mammootty just made the formal announcement through his Facebook page. From the title poster, it looks like a football based film. Debutant Dheeraj Bala will be directing the film and Josekutty Madathil is producing it. Actor Tiny Tom is serving as the executive producer.

The game of football has been an essential part of many Malayalam films like ‘Goal’, ‘Sevens’, ‘Sudani From Nigeria’ etc. It will be interesting to see what this upcoming film has to offer. Director Dheeraj has penned the screenplay of ‘Udhaya’ along with Vijesh Viswam. Arun Bhaskar is the cinematographer and music department will be handled by Jakes Bejoy. Sunil S Pillai is the editor.

It must be noted that Sreenath Bhasi and Suraj Venjaramoodu have not yet acted together as leads before. So it will be exciting to see this fresh combo on screen. The two are also coming together in another upcoming film, to be helmed by director Arun Kumar Aravind. Arjun Ashokan and Sharafudheen are also part that film’s lead cast.

Mohanlal welcomes Meena to Drishyam 2 team

Popular South Indian actress Meena is celebrating her birthday today. Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, who has worked with Meena in several films, wished her through his official social media handle. He also took the special occasion to formally welcome her to join the team of ‘Drishyam 2’. It is an official confirmation that Meena will be reprising the role of Rani from the original.

‘Drishyam 2’ story will continue exactly from where the first part ended. The narrative will once again revolve around the lives of Georgekutty and family. Jeethu Joseph is directing the film and all the major actors from ‘Drishyam’ are expected to be part of the sequel as well.

Shoot was planned to begin earlier this week but it had to be pushed as set works are yet to be completed. The makers are hoping to go on floors by the end of this month. As the Covid-19 crisis is worsening, shoot will be conducted as per the safety protocols. Kochi and Thodupuzha are the major locations. Mohanlal’s own production house Aashirvad Cinemas is producing the film.

Fahadh Faasil, Soubin Shahir and Darshana Rajendran team up for Irul

Fahadh Faasil, Soubin Shahir and Darshana Rajendran are coming together for a new film titled ‘Irul’. Debutant director Naseef Yusuf Izuddin is helming the film and it is being jointly produced by Anto Joseph Productions and Plan J Studios. Jomon T John is cranking the camera and Badhushah is the project designer. The film has already gone on floors in Kuttikanam. Shoot is being conducted as per the safety protocols issues by the government.

Director Naseef Yusuf Izuddin is a graduate from Vancouver Film School in Canada. He was the creative director of the production house Film Tent, which was associated with Excel Entertainment. He was associated with popular Bollywood films like ‘Happy New Year’, ‘Dil Dhadkaney Do’, ‘Badlapur’, ‘Raees’, ‘Newton’, ‘Thumbbad’. Apart from revealing the names of the lead cast, the makers have not yet shared any other details regarding Nassef’s directorial debut ‘Irul’.

Actor Sunny Wayne is making his feature film production debut with this film and New Surya Films is presenting it. Shoot is currently stalled due to the pandemic situation.

Besides ‘Padavettu’, Shine Tom Chacko also has several other films lined up. He will be next seen in a lead role in ‘Love’ directed by Khalid Rahman. The film which was shot during the lockdown days has Shine and Rajisha Vijayan playing the lead roles. ‘Kurup’. ‘Operation Java’, ‘Thami’, ‘Velleppam’ and ‘Djinn’ are some of his other films in the pipeline.

Watch the trailer of the new Tamil web series Time Enna Boss!

A new Tamil web series titled ‘Time Enna Boss’ is all set to release on Amazon Prime. Bharath, Ashok Selvan, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Alexander Babu Arulanthu, Karunakaran, Robo Shankar and Sanjana Sarathy feature in the series. Its trailer has just been released online.

The trailer begins with a voice over by veteran actor Parthiban. From the short trailer, we can make out that it is a fun show with a bunch of quirky characters in the lead. The narrative is centred around a happy-go-lucky professional, played by Bharath, and his encounter with three time travellers from different periods.

‘Time Enna Boss’ is a 5-episode series with each episode having a runtime of around 22 minutes. ‘Sutta Kadhai’ fame Subu is directing the series and Madley Blues has composed the music.Ka vithalayaa Productions, a banner that has been active in the Tamil film industry for over 3 decades, is producing this series.

The series is all set to premiere on Amazon prime video on September 18.

Dulquer Salmaan has to be the biggest fan of his dad, Mammootty. The youngster is full of admiration for his superstar father and talks about him in length in his interviews. In a recent chat with FC, when asked about his favourite look of Mammootty from all his films, Dulquer picked Alexander from ‘Samrajyam’. He is quoted saying, “As a fanboy, I’d say Samrajyam. His beard, set back hair, suits.. all were great.”

‘Samrajyam’ released in 1990 is a gangster film that enjoys a cult status among the Malayali cinephiles. The film directed by debutant Jomon was a huge success back then. Mammootty’s stylish getup as the underworld don Alexander and the iconic background score composed by maestro Ilaiyaraaja is hugely popular even today.

Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan had even expressed his interest to remake ‘Samrajyam’ in Hindi. Director Jomon himself revealed this to Onlookers Media in a recent chat. Though talks regarding the remake were initiated, the project could not materialize due to various reasons.

Manju Warrier starrer Kayattam selected for Busan International Film Festival

Manju Warrier’s upcoming film ‘Kayattam’ has been selected for screening at the Busan International Film Festival. The film is directed by Sanal Kumar Saidharan. Most of his films have had a good run at the festival circuits. His last film ‘Chola’ had its world premier at the Venice International Film Festival. His controversial film ‘Sexy Durga’ aka ‘S Durga’ had won the Hivos Tiger Award at the 2017 International Film Festival of Rotterdam and became the first Indian film to do so.

In ‘Kayattam’, Manju plays the role of a hiker. The film was completely shot in Himachal Pradesh. Manju has also produced the film along with Shaji Mathew and Aruna Mathew. It was during the film’s shoot last year that Manju along with the crew got stranded in the flood-hit remote areas of Himachal Pradesh. The crew got stuck in an isolated village after a series of flash floods and landslides blocked the roads. Timely intervention from the Kerala government, Union Ministry and Himachal Pradesh government helped the crew return back to safety.

Kailash starrer Son of Gangster starts rolling

New Malayalam film ‘Son of Gangster’ started rolling today. The film is written and directed by Vimal Raj. Kailash is playing the lead role in the film. Sinoj Augustian is producing it under the banner of R Colours Productions. From the title poster, it looks like a crime drama.

It is said that ‘Son of Gansgter’ is being planned as a direct OTT-release film. The makers are yet to announce it officially. On the technical front, the film has Pappinu cranking the camera. Sreehari K Nair, who made a promising debut with ‘Maniyarayile Ashokan’, will be handling the music department. Manu Shaju is in charge of the edits.

Kailash, who made his debut as a lead actor with ‘Neelathamara’, is yet to prove himself as a bankable lead actor. Though he has done notable roles in several films, he still hasn’t got a solo commercial hit. The actor will be hoping that ‘Son of Gangster’ gives him that much needed break.

The 55-year-old had recently shared a photo of his new look. His salt and pepper getup with a long beard has caught the attention of many as he is almost unrecognizable. Netizens have also pointed out his resemblance to fellow actor Suresh Krishna.

Though Nandhu has been active in the industry for more than 30 years, it is only in the last few years that he has been consistently getting meaty roles. A regular in Priyadarshan films, Nandhu will be next seen in the director’s highly ambitious film ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’. He essays a character named Kuthiravattath Nair in it.
