Ka Pae Ranasingam confirmed as OTT release

Vijay Sethupathi-Aishwarya Rajesh starrer ‘Ka Pae Ranasingam’ has been confirmed as a direct OTT release. The film will be will be premiering on Zee Plex, a pay per view service. More details on the premiere date and pricing are still awaited.

Debutant P Virumandi has made the film based on true events. From the earlier released teaser, it looks like a powerful rural drama that is a socially-relevant one in today’s times. According to the makers, it is a film that talks of justice, right, equality and more.

‘Ka Pae Ranasingam’ has Vijay Sethupathi and Aishwarya playing a married couple. Samuthirakani, Rangaraj Pandey, Yogi Babu, Vela Ramamoorthy and many others form the supporting cast.

Cinematographer NK Ekambaram, Ghibran and action choreographer Peter Hein are part of the technical crew. Composer Ghibran had recently tweeted in praise of the film and called it one of the most important movies in Tamil Cinema.

Kotapadi J Rajesh has produced the film under the banner of KJR Studios.

Shoot for Mammootty starrer The Priest to be resumed this month

‘The Priest’ is an upcoming Malayalam film that has Mammootty and Manju Warrier in the lead roles. Debutant Jofin T Chacko is directing the film, which is said to be a thriller. Shoot for the film was nearing its final stages when the pandemic-induced lockdown was announced.

After almost 5 months, the makers are planning to resume shoot. If reports are to be believed, the team will begin shoot later this month in Vagamon. It is also said that Mammootty has already finished shooting for his portions but Manju Warrier still has a few scenes to be completed.

‘The Priest’ is a mystery-thriller with a big star cast. Director Jofin has written the story while screenplay and dialogues are penned by Deepu Pradeep and Shyam Mohan. Nikhila Vimal, Saniya Iyappan, Baby Monica of ‘Kaithi’ fame, Jagadheesh, Ramesh Pisharody, ‘Karikku’ fame Ameya Mathew, ‘Nayika Nayakan’ fame Venkitesh and Tony Luke will be seen in important roles.

On the technical front, the film has Akhil George as the DOP and Rahul Raj as the music director. Shameer Muhammed is handling the edits. The film is jointly produced by Anto Joseph, B Unnikrishnan and VN Babu.

Rajisha Vijayan’s Kho Kho starts rolling

Recently, it was announced that Rajisha Vijayan would be starring in a new sports film titled ‘Kho Kho’. The film is written and directed by Rahul Riji Nair of ‘Ottamuri Velicham’ fame and it is produced under the banner of First Print Studios. Shoot for the film has commenced today.

Kho Kho is a traditional Indian sport. It is also a popular game played across South Asia and has a strong presence in South Africa and England. Rajisha will be playing a Kho Kho player’s role in the film. This is actually her second outing as a sportsperson. She had previously played the role of a cyclist in ‘Finals’. Malayalam cinema has had very few quality sports films. Hopefully, ‘Kho Kho’ will live up to the expectations.

The film has cinematography by Tobin Thomas of ‘Stand Up’ fame and music by Sidhartha Pradeep. Appu Bhattathiri will be the post-production supervisor and edits will be done by Christy Sebastian.

Shane Nigam and Nedumudi Venu to team up for a new film!

Shane Nigam and veteran Nedumudi Venu are set to team up for the first time. The two will be seen playing the lead roles in director Salam Bappu’s new film. The film, which is also scripted by Salam Bappu, is said to be a feel-good entertainer which will be shot extensively in Dubai and other parts of UAE.

Salam Bappu has previously directed ‘Red Wine’ starring Asif Ali, Fahadh Faasil, Mohanlal and the Mammootty starrer ‘Manglish’. He is also scripting a Kannada film titled ‘srikrishna@gmail.com’. Malayali actress Bhavana and Darling Krishna will be seen playing the lead roles and Nagashekhar will be directing the film. Shoot for the same has already commenced.

Meanwhile, Salam Bappu’s new film with Shane Nigam and Nedumudi Venu is being planned to begin in November. Shane also has ‘Veyil’ and Sajid Yahiya’s ‘Qalb’ coming up. ‘Veyil’ directed by Sarath Menon is most likely to be the star’s next release.

Kalidas Jayaram’s long delayed Oru Pakka Kathai gets an OTT release

Kalidas Jayaram’s long delayed Tamil film ‘Oru Pakka Kathai’ is finally set for release. OTT platform Zee5 has bagged the streaming rights and the film will be premiering on September 25. The film is directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan of ‘Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom’ and ‘Seethakaathi’ fame.

‘Oru Pakka Kathai’ release got delayed so long as the film was involved in a lot of troubles with the censor board. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) officals wanted to remove the word ‘intercourse’ from the movie, which was strictly opposed by the makers. When asked to remove the particular word, the makers approached the revising committee. The committee had no objection, but they wanted to check with the Mumbai head office. That process actually lasted for a long time. Finally, the CBFC officals certified the film and also retained the word ‘intercourse’. After battling for several months, the film was given a U certificate with some minor cuts.

‘Oru Pakka Kathai’ has Kalidas and Megha Akash in the lead roles. PV Chandramoulli, Jeeva Ravi, Lakshmi Priya Menon and Meena also play important roles in the film.

Ace filmmaker Priyadarshan has directed the segment ‘Anamika’ that has Pooja Kumar, Harsh Chhaya and Aditya Seal in the leads. It is the story of an older woman who is unhappy in her marriage and her relationship with a man she considers boring and moody. She finds love in a younger man but how their affair affects her life forms the plot. Pooja Kumar is noted for her performance in films like ‘Vishwaroopam’ and ‘Uttam Villain’.

Ali Fazal and Omkar Kapoor play the lead roles. ‘Rules of the Game’ helmed by Aniruddha Roy Chaudhary is about a married couple whose game of role play is taken too far. Aahana Kumra and Chandan Roy Sanyal star in it. ‘Diagnosis of Love’ directed by Mahesh Manjrekar stars him and Raima Sen.

Joju George and Niranj Maniyanpilla Raju are coming together for a new film titled ‘Oru Thathvika Avalokanam’. Debutant Akhil Marar is directing the film. Last day, Mohanlal released the film’s motion poster through his official Facebook page. The superstar also wished the team good luck.

‘Oru Thathvika Avalokanam’ is a famous dialogue said by late actor Sankaradi in the classic film ‘Sandesham’. Like ‘Sandesham’, this film is also said to be a political satire. The story is centered around a youngster who prepares for the PSC exam and a government contractor. Joju will be seen playing the contractor’s role and Niranj will be essaying the other lead role. Details regarding the supporting cast and crew members have not yet been revealed by the makers.

The team is planning to start shooting by November so that they can release the film before the general elections in April. Yohan Productions is producing the film.

Trisha rates C U Soon as the best film of 2020

The recently released Malayalam film ‘C U Soon’ continues to garners excellent response. Since the film had a direct release on Amazon Prime, several non-Malayalis have watched the film and been impressed by it. Popular South Indian actress Trisha has rated it as the best film of the year. In her Instagram post, she also praised the performances of the actors.

‘C U Soon’ directed by Mahesh Narayanan is a virtual film, where much of the action happens through screens of computers and phones. Though the technique has been previously employed in some English films like ‘Searching’ and ‘Unfriended’, this is the first such attempt in Malayalam. The film was conceived and shot completely during the lockdown period.

Fahadh Faasil, Darshana Rajendran and Roshan Mathew play the lead roles in the film and the performances of all three actors have been highly appreciated. Though it is a thriller on a surface level, the film is also emotionally charged and speaks about a socially-relevant issue that needs to be addressed.

With critics and common audience unanimously praising the film, ‘C U Soon’ has already been declared as a blockbuster OTT release.
