Vinay Forrt-Chemban Vinod Jose starrer Urumbukal Urangarilla to be remade in Tamil

‘Urumbukal Urangarilla’, a thriller film released in 2015, is set to be remade in Tamil. Its director Jiju Asokan informed the same through his social media handle. However, details regarding the cast and crew of the Tamil version have not yet been revealed. The original film had Vinay Forrt and Chemban Vinod Jose in the lead roles. Kalabhavan Shajon, Ananya, Sudheer Karamana, Aju Varghese, Innocent, Sreejith Ravi, Sunil Sukhada, Musthafa, Vanitha Krishnachandran, Janakai Krishnan, and Thesni Khan were also part of the supporting cast.

During the time of its release, ‘Urumbukal Uranagarilla’ had a fair theaterical run. Critic reviews were also largely positive. It will be interesting to see how the film gets adapted to suit the Tamil audience.

Last year, ‘Urumbukal Urangarilla’ director Jiju Asokan had announced a new film with Antony Varghese and Chemban Vinod Jose. This upcoming film, which is yet to be titled, is also said to be a thriller. There is still no word about when shoot begins.

Akshay Kumar and Aanand L Rai team up for Raksha Bandhan

Akshay Kumar has signed a new film with director Aanand L Rai. It has been titled as ‘Raksha Bandhan’ and the formal announcement was made just a while back through social medias. A colourful first look poster featuring Akshay and four other girls has been shared by the makers. Himanshu Sharma, Rai’s frequent collaborator, is scripting the film. It is produced by Colour Yellow Production in association with Cape of Good Films. Shoot will begin early next year and it has been scheduled as a November 2021 release.

‘Raksha Bandhan’ is Akshay’s second film with director Rai. The duo is working together in another film titled ‘Atrangi Re’ that also has Tamil star Dhanush and Sara Ali Khan in the lead roles. Before the Covid-19 pandemic struck, Dhanush and Sara had shot for a few portions in Varanasi. The second schedule will commence from October in Madurai. Following this, the team will continue shooting in Delhi and Mumbai where Akshay Kumar will be joining for a month.

Nivin Pauly and Garggi Ananthan bag top honours at the New York Indian Film Festival

The Geetu Mohandas directorial ‘Moothon’ won big at the 20th New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF), 2020 Virtual Edition. The film was nominated in four categories and eventually won a total of three awards. Nivin Pauly won the Best Actor award and Sanjana Dipu, who essayed the role of Mulla in the film, won the Best Child Actor award. ‘Moothon’ was also chosen as the Best Film at the festival.

Garggi Ananthan won the Best Actress award for her performance in the film ‘Run Kalyani’. The Best Director award was bagged by Anchal Mishra for his 2019 film ‘Gamak Ghar’. Best Screenplay award went to ‘Knock Knock Knock’ written by Sudhanshu Saria.

‘Tailing Pond’, a 2019 documentary directed by Saurav Vishnu won Best Documentary award at the festival. Best Feature Documentary award went to ‘Son Rise’, directed by Vibha Bakshi. The award for Best Short (Narrative) went to ‘Arabian Nights’.

First look and motion poster of Soubin Shahir’s Djinn is intriguing!

We had reported about Sidharth Bharathan directing a new film titled ‘Djinn’. It has Soubin Shahir in the lead. Last day, the first look and motion poster of the film got released online. It is highly intriguing and doesn’t any clue about the film. Dulquer Salmaan released the poster through in his social media handle and wished luck to his team members, most of whom are his friends.

‘Djinn’ is scripted by Rajesh Gopinadhan, who had earlier penned the Dulquer starrer ‘Kali’. It is learnt that ‘Djinn’ is an interesting entertainer that has equal dose of family drama and suspense elements. It is a racy film centered around the two lead characters played by Soubin and Santhy Balachandran of ‘Tharangam’ and ‘Jallikkattu’ fame. Leona Lishoy, noted for her performance in ‘Mayaanadhi’, ‘Ishq’ and ‘Anveshanam’ plays an important character. Sharafudheen will also be seen essaying a crucial role.

‘Djinn’ has some talented technicians in the crew. Girish Gangadharan is the cinematographer and music department is being handled by Prashant Pillai. Deepu Joseph is the editor. It is being produced under the banner of Straight Line Cinemas.

Suresh Gopi reveals that Shankar hadn’t seen any of his films before I

Malayalam actor Suresh Gopi is quite a popular face among the Tamil audience thanks to the success of films like ‘Dheena’ and ‘Samasthanam’. His last outing in Tamil was in ‘I’, in which he played the villain role opposite Vikram. Interestingly, the film’s director Shankar hadn’t seen any of Suresh Gopi’s films before that. He bagged the role after Shankar was highly impressed with the way he hosted the popular TV show, ‘Njan Koodeeshwaran’. Suresh Gopi’s performance in the film was noted and his dialogue ‘Athukkum Mela’ is still popular among the masses.

After five years, Suresh Gopi is making a return to Kollywood with ‘Tamilarasan’ starring Vijay Antony in the lead. Mamangam actress Prachi Tehlan set to tie the knot

Punjabi actress and former sportsperson, Prachi Tehlan is now a known face to the Malayali audience after ‘Mamangam’. She played the role of Unnimaya in the film and her performance was noted. The pretty actress is all set to get married. She will be tying the knot with Delhi-based entrepreneur and wildlife environmentalist Rohit Saroha. The wedding is scheduled to be held on August 7.

A biopic on India’s legendary astronaut Rakesh Sharma was first announced two years back. Mahesh Mathai will be directing the film. Aamir Khan was the first choice to star in the film. After he opted out, Shah Rukh Khan showed his interest in the project. However, SRK also walked out after the failure of his ambitious film ‘Zero’. As per latest reports, Farhan Akhtar will be starring in the film.

Farhan is currently working on the boxing film ‘Toofan’ directed by Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra. After its completion, he is expected to start working on the Rakesh Sharma biopic. More details regarding the cast and crew will be revealed during the official announcement.

Rakesh Sharma is a former Indian Air Force Pilot who flew aboard Soyuz T-11 in 1984, as part of a joint program between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Soviet Intercosmos space program. He had spent 7 days 21 hours and 40 minutes in space and remains to this day the only Indian to travel to space.

The biopic is rumoured to be titled as ‘Saare Jahaan Se Achcha’. It has been scripted by Anjum Rajabali, best known for his work in films like ‘Ghulam’, ‘The Legend of Bhagat Singh’ and ‘Raajneeti’. The film will be jointly produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur and Ronnie Screwvala under the banners of Roy Kapur Films and RSVP Films.

Roy: Suraj Venjaramoodu’s next announced

Suraj Venjaramoodu, who had a highly successful 2019, has several projects lined up. His new film was announced last day. Titled as ‘Roy’, the film is written and directed by Sunil Ibrahim, who has previously made films like ‘Arikil Oraal’, ‘Chapters’ and ‘Y’. Along with the title announcement, a first look poster featuring Suraj was also shared by the makers.

‘Roy’ comes with the tagline, Realities of Yesterday. The film has cinematography by Jayesh Mohan of ‘Mayaanadhi’ fame. V Saajan will be handling the edits and music will be composed by Munna PM. More details regarding the genre, supporting cast and when shoot begins are not yet known.

Suraj Venjaramoodu also has ‘Higuita’, ‘Dashamoolam Daamu’ and several other projects in his kitty. In ‘Higuita’ directed by debutant Hemanth G Nair, he will be seen as a politician. Dhyan Sreenivasan plays an equally important role as a gunman. Shafi will be directing the film based on Damu and Benny P Nayarambalam is scripting it.

Trance, Kaithi, Jersey and Super 30 be screened at IIFFT 2020

The International Indian Film Festival Toronto (IIFFT) held annually aims to promote Indian cinema in North America. Selected films from different languages will be screened at the festival. This year, the Malayalam film ‘Trance’, Karthi’s ‘Kaithi’, Nani’s sports drama Jersey and the Hrithik Roshan starrer ‘Super 30’ are among the Indian feature films that will be screened at IIFFT, scheduled to be held from August 9 to 15.

Earlier this year, Anwar Rasheed directorial ‘Trance’ had its theatrical release amidst huge expectations. However, the film failed to satisfy the majority. Though the attempt was appreciated, even critic reviews were mixed. Fahadh Faasil’s performance still earned unanimous praise.

The other three films – ‘Kaithi’, ‘Jersey’ and ‘Super 30’ were all big blockbusters. ‘Kaithi’ and ‘Jersey’ are also getting remade in Bollywood. While Ajay Devgn plays the lead in ‘Kaithi’ remake, the Hindi version of ‘Jersey’ has Shahid Kapoor reprising Nani’s role of a cricketer. Shoot for the same is at the halfway stage.
