There has been several talks about Suresh Gopi’s 250th film. To be directed by debutant Mathew Thomas, the film has the veteran star playing a larger-than-life character called Kaduvakunnel Kuruvachan. His stunning look with a salt-and-pepper handlebar moustache had grabbed attention. Some new photoshoot stills got released online recently.

‘SG 250’ (tentative title) got into a controversy when the makers of ‘Kaduva’, a Prithviraj starrer to be directed by Shaji Kailas, approached the court alleging that there were similarities between the two films. The Kerala high court then orderd a stay on the shoot and promotional activities of Suresh Gopi’s film.

Interestingly, the lead characters in both these films are allegedly based on a real life person named Kurivanakunnel Kuruvachan, who still resides in Pala. After the announcement of both these films, Kuruvachan came out expressing his disapproval as they are being made without his consent. As per Kuruvachan, he had discussed the idea about a film only with Renji Panicker and if the other two parties decide to go ahead, he will be dealing with it legally.

Following Kuruvachan’s opposition, the makers of ‘Kaduva’ clarified that their film is not based on his life but completely fictional. Director Shaji Kailas informed that his film is about a young planter with no connection whatsoever to Kuruvachan. The current status of both these films are not yet known as the case is still in the court.

Jhanvi Kapoor to star in Helen Hindi remake

After getting a Tamil version, hit Malayalam film ‘Helen’ is now set to be remade in Hindi as well. As per latest reports, Jhanvi Kapoor has shown interest to act in the film’s Hindi version. Jhanvi’s father Boney Kapoor and Zee Studios will be producing the film. Details regarding the director’s name and other crew members are not yet known.

‘Helen’ directed by debutant Mathukutty Xavier is a survival thriller. The director had co-scripted the film along with Alfred Kurian Joseph and Noble Babu Thomas. Anna Ben played the titular role in the it and Lal essayed another prominent role as her father. The film was received well by both the critics as well as the general public.

In the Tamil version, which is yet to be titled, Keerthi Pandian, who had made her acting debut with ‘Thumbaa’, will be seen playing the lead role. Her dad Arun Pandian is reprising the father’s role played by Lal in the original. The film is being directed by Gokul, who has previously helmed films like ‘Rowthiram’, ‘Idharkuthaane Aasaipattai Balakumara’, ‘Junga’, and ‘Kashmora’.

Since ‘Helen’ is a survival thriller, its story should appeal to a wide range of audience irrespective of the language.

Manjima Mohan is gradually establishing herald as a reliable actor in Tamil film industry. The pretty actress started off as a child artist in Malayalam. Her maiden film as a lead actor was ‘Oru Vadakkan Selfie’, in which she starred opposite Nivin Pauly. She then made her Tamil entry with Gautham Menon’s ‘Achcham Yenbathu Madamiyada’. After that, she has been working mostly in Tamil.

Manjima will be next seen in ‘FIR’ that has ‘Ratchasan’ star Vishnu Vishal in the lead. Last day, Vishnu tweeted that Manjima has done a fantastic work in the film. Directed by Manu Anand, it is a thriller that also stars Reba Monica John, Gautham Menon and Raiza Wilson in major roles.

Manjima Mohan will also be seen in a crucial role in the upcoming political satire ‘Tughlaq Durbar’ directed by debutant Delhi Prasad Deenadayal. Vijay Sethupathi plays a politician in the film and Manjima essays the role of his sister. Aditi Rao Hydari is paired with Sethupathi.

Accoring to the makers, ‘Tughlaq Durbar’ has an out-and-out mass subject. Balaji Tharaneetharan, who has directed films like ‘Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom’ and ‘Seethakaathi’, has penned the dialogues. The film’s technical team has Manoj Paramahamsa as the DOP and Govind Vasantha as the music director. It is being produced jointly by 7 Screen Studio and Viacom 18.

As announced earlier, Janhvi Kapoor’s ‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’ will be releasing directly on Netflix. The film is scheduled to premiere on August 12. Meanwhile, the makers have shared the trailer online. The 2.42 minute long trailer has glimpses of several thrilling moments.

The film directed by Sharan Sharma is the biopic of Gunjan Saxena, a flight lieutenant who was posted in Kargil during the 1999 war. She had heroically evacuated injured soldiers from the war field and also air-dropping supplies flying through Kashmir. Gunjan was awarded the Shaurya Vir Award, for her outstanding show of courage in the Kargil war. She became the first woman to receive such an honour from the army.

As per the makers, ‘Gunjan Saxena’ is a defining film based on a true story about a woman who showed unparalleled courage, and inspiration to many in the coming years. Jhanvi is playing Gunjan Saxena’s role in the film. The cast also includes Pankaj Tripathi, Angad Bedi, Vineet Kumar and Manav Vij.

Karan Johar is producing the film under the banner of Dharma Productions.

Today, on the occasion of Eid, the makers of ‘Halal Love Story’ have released a special new poster. Indrajith Sukumaran Joju George, Grace Antony, Soubin Shahir and Sharafudheen feature in the poster. Parvathy is also part of the film. This is probably the first time she is playing a guest role in a Malayalam film.

‘Halal Love Story’ comes from the National award winning team of ‘Sudani From Nigeria’. Zakariya is directing and co-scripting the film along with Muhsin Parari. It is said to be a feel-good comedy flick with some subtle political commentary in it.

The technical crew of ‘Halal Love Story’ comprises of cinematographer Ajay Menon, editor Saiju Sreedharan and costume designer Mashar Hamsa. Bijibal, Shahabaz Aman and Rex Vijayan are jointly handling the music department. Filmmaker Aashiq Abu is producing the film along with Jesna Ashim and Harshad Ali. It was supposed to hit screens in Vishu but due to the virus outbreak, release had to be postponed.

AA 21: Allu Arjun’s next with hit maker Koratala Siva announced

Allu Arjun is set to team up with director Koratala Siva for his next film, which is tentatively titled as ‘AA 21’. The formal announcement was made just a while back by the director through his official social media handle. Sudhakar Mikkilineni of Yuvasudha will be producing the film along with GA2 Pictures.

Koratala Siva is one of the most successful directors in Telugu film industry. He has made blockbusters like ‘Mirchi’, ‘Srimanthudu’, ‘Janatha Garage and ‘Bharat Ane Nenu’. This is his first time collaboration with Allu Arjun and expectations will be huge. Both Siva and Allu Arjun are currently busy with the other projects.

Allu Arjun is working on ‘Pushpa’ directed by Sukumar. Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi was also part of the film but he opted out recently due to his busy schedule. After completing ‘Pushpa’, he will be joining Kortala Siva’s film which has been planned as an early 2022 release.

Koratala Siva meanwhile is working on ‘Acharya’ that has megatsar Chiranjeevi in the lead.

The making video of upcoming Malayalam film ‘Velleppam’ has been released online. This a rom-com directed by debutant Praveen Raj Pookkadan. It stars ‘Pathinettam Padi’ fame Akshay Radhakrishnan and ‘Oru Adaar Love’ fame Noorin Shereef in the lead roles.

Newcomer Jeevan Lal has scripted ‘Velleppam’, which as a rom-com entertainer with fantasy elements. Along with the lead pair, Roma Asrani, will also be seen in a prominent role. The actress who was been away from films for over 2 years, is making her comeback with ‘Velleppam’. She will be seen playing the role of Akshay Radhakrishnan’s sister in the film. Shine Tom Chacko essays another crucial role of a communist leader.

The supporting cast also includes Kailash, Sohan Seenulal, ‘Thaneer Mathan Dhinangal’ fame Vaishak Rajan, Sreejith Ravi, Sajid Yahiya, ‘June’ fame Fahim Safar, debutant Sanif and many others. On the technical side, the film has Shihab Ongallur as the DOP and Shameer Muhammed as the editor. Veteran music director SP Venkitesh is making his comeback with this film.

‘Velleppam’ is being produced by Jins Thomas and Dhwarak Udhayshankar under the banner of Baroque Films.

The Covid-19 pandemic has proven to be a major booster for OTTs in India. As theatres across the country have been shut for over four months now, the general public is showing more interest towards OTT platforms. In Malayalam, ‘Sufiyum Sujathayum’ became the first mainstream film to be released directly in Amazon Prime. VK Prakash’s upcoming film ‘Oru Nalpathukarante Irupathiyonnkaari’ is also being planned as an OTT release.

The film stars Anoop Menon and ‘Oru Adaar Love’ fame Priya Prakash Varrier in the lead roles. Anoop Menon is scripting the film. This is the third time he is penning a film for VK Prakash after the successful ‘Beautiful’ and ‘Trivandrum Lodge’. The duo is also producing it along with production controller Dixon Poduthas.

‘Oru Nalpathukarante Irupathiyonnkaari’ has Priya playing a character named Zara and Anoop Menon’s role ia named as Thampi. Nandu and ‘Pathinettam Padi’ fame Ambi Ninasam will also be seen in crucial roles in the film. Details regarding the other cast and crew members are awaited.

‘Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal’ (KKK) starring Dulquer Salmaan and Ritu Varma was one of the biggest surprise hits in Tamil cinema this year. Its director Desingh Periyasamy recently got a call from superstar Rajinikanth, who was highly impressed by the film. The audio of the phone call has been leaked and is currently going around in social medias.

Rajinikanth is heard showering praise on Periyasamy over the call. He was so impressed by the director’s work that he also asked the youngster to come up with something interesting for him. Periyasamy is a huge fan of Rajinikanth and has often said that it in his interviews. So it really was a cloud-nine moment for him and he took to his Twitter handle to share the excitement.

‘KKK’ is a con film with some clever twists that keeps the audience engaged throughout. Along with Dulquer and Ritu, it also had Rakshan, Niranjani Ahathian and Gautham Menon in major roles. The film was released amidst very less hype and it had an average opening. Soon it picked up courtesy the positive word of mouth and within a couple of weeks, it was declared a superhit. Streaming giant Netflix later bagged its rights.

‘Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal’ was also dubbed and released in Telugu as ‘Kanulu Kanulu Dochayante’. The Telugu version had set a new TRP record recently. It recorded a rating of 7.1 which is said to be the highest ever for a dubbed film in Telugu.
