Odiyan fame Sam CS to score music for Muttiah Muralitharan biopic starring Vijay Sethupathi

We had earlier reported about Vijay Sethupathi starring in the biopic of legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan. The film which is said to be titled as ‘800’ will be directed by MS Sripathi. Telugu star Rana Daggubati’s banner Suresh Productions is producing the film in association with DAR Motion Pictures. As per latest reports, the film will have music composed by Sam CS of ‘Odiyan’ fame. Sam has earlier composed for Vijay Sethupathi’s other films like ‘Vikram Vedha’ and ‘Puriyatha Puthir’.

Muttiah Muralitharan is unarguably one of the greatest spinners in cricket history. A Tamilian by birth, Murali was born and brought up in Sri Lanka. He made his cricketing debut in 1992 and played for Sri Lanka till 2011. Even after 8 years from his retirement, he still holds the world record for the most number of wickets in both test (800) and one-day international cricket (534).

Murali’s biopic will be made in Tamil and released in several other languages. It has been planned to be shot in India, England, Srilanka and a couple of other countries.

E4 Entertainment to make a web series based on Chasing The Brigand

E4 Entertainment, a popular banner in the South Indian film industry, is set to make their maiden web series. It will be based on the book ‘Chasing The Brigand’, written by K Vijaya Kumar IPS. He was the Chief of the Special Task Force (STF) of Tamil Nadu that was involved in the killing of India’s most dreaded bandit, Veerappan, during Operation Cocoon of 2004.

‘Chasing The Brigand’ written by K Vijay Kumar IPS is an incisive account of the rise and fall of Veerappan. E4 Entertainment has acquired the book’s rights. In a press statement released by them, it has been mentioned that any feature film or web series replicating the book, its episodes in part or as a whole or any characters in the book or their mannerisms depicted as in the book is liable for damages and legal action for copyright infringement. They are planning to start works immediately after the restrictions on outdoor shooting is shifted.

‘Chasing the Brigand’ is the most authentic account of how the STF planned and executed Veerappan. The book also relives the various incidents that shaped his life. It traces his dramatic rise from a small-time poacher and sandalwood smuggler to a brutal fugitive who held three states to ransom for two decades.

Details regarding the cast and crew behind the web series is not yet known. Stay tuned.

Shoot begins for Dhanush-Akshay Kumar-Sara Ali Khan film Atrangi Re; Second schedule in October

Dhanush is reuniting with ‘Raanjhanaa’ director Aanand L Rai for a new Hindi film titled ‘Atrangi Re’. It is a multi-starrer that also features Akshay Kumar and Sara Ali Khan in the lead roles. Before the Covid-19 pandemic struck, Dhanush and Sara shot for a few portions in Varanasi. The second schedule will commence from October in Madurai. Following this, the team will continue shooting in Delhi and Mumbai where Akshay Kumar will be joining for a month.

‘Atrangi Re’ scripted by National award winner Himanshu Sharma will have equal prominence to all the three lead actors. Akshay Kumar is said to be playing a very challenging role in the film. Hrithik Roshan was the first choice for this role but he could not commit to the project as he had other commitments.

AR Rahman has been signed as the music director. T Series, Colour Yellow Productions and Cape of Good Films will be presenting the film.

Malayalam actor Anil Murali passes away!

2020 continues to to be a forgettable year for Malayalam film industry. After the sudden demise of director Sachy, another shocking news has just come in. Anil Murali, a renowned character artist has passed away. Aged 56, he is survived by his wife Suma and two children, Adithya and Arundhathi.

A veteran of more than 200 films, Anil Murali has acted in Telugu and Tamil languages as well. He started his acting career with television serials. He made his debut in cinema with the Vinayan directorial Kanyakumariyil Oru Kavitha that got released in 1993.

Some of most noted roles came in films like Chanthupottu, Lion, Balram vs Tharadas, Mahasamudram, Baba Kalyani, Kichamani MBA, July 4, Nasrani, Annan Thambi, Puthiya Mukham, Manikiakkallu, Hero, Run Baby Run, Amen, Dolphin Bar, Ramaleela, Joseph etc. His last appearance was in the Tovino Thomas starrer Forensic.

Many from the industry, including stars and technicians, are paying their condolences to Anil Murali through their social media handles.

One of Indian cinema’s most popular names, director SS Rajamouli got tested positive for for the coronavirus on Wednesday. The filmmaker shared his COVID-19 diagnosis in a tweet. He also that he along with his family members are isolating at home, as prescribed by doctors.

Rajamouli tweeted,

My family members and I developed a slight fever few days ago. It subsided by itself but we got tested nevertheless. The result has shown a mild COVID positive today. We have home quarantined as prescribed by the doctors.
All of us are feeling better with no symptoms but are following all precautions and instructions…
Just waiting to develop antibodies so that we can donate our plasma…

Rajamouli was working on his ambitious dual hero film, ‘RRR’ before the Covid-19 pandemic bought things to a standstill. Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn star in the film, which is a mega-budget period film set in the pre-Independence era.

Dulquer Salmaan is producing a film titled ‘Maniyarayile Ashokan’. His close friend and ‘ABCD’ co-star Jacob Gregory is playing the titular role. It was supposed to be Dulquer’s maiden production venture to hit screens due to the virus outbreak, it had to be postponed. Last day, the first single from the film got released online. Dulquer along with Gregory have sung the track.

A new poster has just been shared by the makers, which introduces a couple of major characters. Gregory, Shine Ton Chacko and Krishna Shankar feature in the poster. Shine essays a character named Shaiju and Krishna Shankar’s plays Ratheesh.

After the success of ‘Nerkonda Paarvai’, the trio of Ajith, director H Vinoth and producer Boney Kapoor are reuniting for ‘Valimai’. It is said to be an action thriller made on a lavish budget. Apparently, the film will be releasing in Hindi as well. It will be Ajith’s first pan-Indian film with a wide release. Exhibitors from across the country are now more keen on South Indian films and ‘Valimai’ is one of the most hyped among them.

‘Valimai’ has Ajith playing a police officer. It is said that the film has an universal storyline with ample dose of action, family drama and thrill. The dialogues and lyrics will be rewritten by professionals to make it appealing to the Hindi-speaking audience. Telugu actor Karthikeya Gummakonda will be seen as the antagonist in the film. Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi plays the female lead.

‘Valimai’ was initially planned as a Diwali 2020 release but the virus outbreak has forced a change in plans. Shoot was fast progressing when the nationwide lockdown was announced. The makers are currently on a wait to see when things return back to normalcy.

Last day, on the occasion of Dhanush’s birthday, the makers of his upcoming film ‘Karnan’ shared a couple of interesting updates. First, it was the title poster which was followed by a making video. The video shows the efforts that went behind the construction of a huge set that looks like an actual village.

‘Karnan’ is directed by Mari Selvaraj, who made with the debut with the widely acclaimed, ‘Pariyerum Perumal’. As reported by us earlier, Malayali actress Rajisha Vijayan is making her Tamil debut with this film. The actress underwent a remarkable transformation by shedding a few kilos. From the location stills, she looked convincing as a village belle with a deglam look.

Along with Dhanush and Rajisha, the cast of ‘Karnan’ also includes Lal, Lakshmipriya Chandramouli, Azhagar Perumal, Natty aka Natarajan Subramanian, Gouri Kishan and Yogi Babu. DOP Theni Eswar and composer Santhosh Narayanan are part or the technical crew. Kollywood’s veteran producer Kalipuli S Thanu is producing the film under the banner of V Creations.

‘Hridayam’ is a hugely hyped film majorly due to the coming together of three names — Vineeth Sreenivasan, Pranav Mohanlal and Kalyani Priyadarshan. Vineeth is directing the film that is said to be a feel-good, coming-of-age entertainer. Though shoot is yet to be completed, the film’s satellite rights has already been sold. Asianet has acquired the rights for a huge amount but the exact figure has not yet been disclosed.

‘Hridayam’ is the story of a bunch of individuals and their life journey. Vineeth Sreenivasan has taken real-life inspirations to script this film. Major portions of the film have been shot in the same engineering college in which he and his wife Divya studied. Pranav, Kalyani and ‘Mayaanadhi’ fame Darshana Rajendran play the central characters. Aju Varghese, Vijayaragavan, Baiju, Arun Kurian and several newcomers are also part of the cast.

‘Hridayam’ team was shooting in Chennai when the lockdown was announced. Only 50% of shoot has been completed so far. Since the film demands to be shot outdoor with several crowd sequences, the makers have decided to wait until things get back to normalcy.

Wolfman: A milestone in Malayalam short film domain!

Short films are generally considered as a stepping stone to enter the real world of cinema. In Malayalam film industry, successful filmmakers like Alphonse Puthren, Basil Joseph and Girish AD started their journey by making short films. The latest sensation in the Malayalam short film circle is ‘Wolfman’, an action film made by Ben Sebastian aka Bennie Bwoie.

‘Wolfman’ is unlike the usual short films made in Malayalam, most of which fall under the romance, comedy or thriller genre. This is a pure action film sans any dialogues. What makes it stand out is the quality of the stunts and how incredibly it has been shot. The film runs at a breakneck speed for 12 minutes and it has nothing but thrilling action. The narrative also doesn’t follow the usual 3-act structure and hence no reasoning is given for the events that occur.

‘Wolfman’ is a perfect example in how professional a project can be executed with limited resources. Director Ben Sebastian himself has edited the film and Sachu Kusumalayalm handled the camera. Sound design and mixing is a very integral part of this film and Anish P Tom has done a brilliant job in creating an action-packed atmosphere.

‘Wolfman’ is indeed an achievement considering the budget constraints and other lack of resources.
