SN Swamy reassures that CBI 5 will be the best ever thriller film in Malayalam!

The trio of Mammootty, script writer SN Swamy and director K Madhu are reuniting for the fifth part of the popular CBI franchise. ‘CBI 5’ shoot was supposed to kick-start in July but due to the Covid-19 situation, it had to be postponed. But the makers are still very confident about the project. SN Swamy has once again stated that ‘CBI 5’ will be the best thriller to have released in Malayalam. The film will be centred around basket killing, a term the makers have coined.

Earlier, during an award ceremony, SN Swamy is quoted saying, “I’m sure ‘CBI 5’ will be a great experience for the audience. It’s the result of three years of my hardwork. Climax of the movie will redefine the way future thrillers are made in Malayalam. It will trigger the start of a new wave.”

It is impossible to start shoot during this situation as the film demands to be shot majority in outdoor locations and amidst large crowd. After restrictions are lifted and things return back to normalcy, ‘CBI 5’ will be the first project that Mammootty will be working on. Pre-production works including casting is currently being finalized. Mukesh, Sai Kumar and Renji Panciker will be seen in supporting roles.

On the technical front, Jakes Bejoy has been signed as the music director. More details are expected to be revealed in the coming days.

Tamil star Simbu has been controversy’s favorite child for long. The actor has also been involved in multiple relationships in the past; most famous of them being the ones with his former co-stars Nayanthara and Hansika Motwani. Fresh set of rumours suggest that Simbu is in a relationship with actress Trisha and the two might get married soon.

Simbu and Trisha have acted acted together in films like ‘Alai’ and ‘Vinnai Thaandi Vaaruvaaya’ (VTV) Their fabulous chemistry in ‘VTV’ was widely appreciated. More recently, during the lockdown days, the two came together for a short film titled ‘Karthik Dial Seytha Yenn’, in which they reprised their respective roles from ‘VTV’. Though they did not have any combination scenes in it, the chemistry was still great.

Both Simbu and Trisha are yet to react to the news of them getting married. It is highly likely that this might fade away as one of those baseless rumours.

Fahadh Faasil to join Mani Ratnam’s web series?

Kollywood medias have been reporting about Mani Ratnam headlining a new web series which will be streaming in Amazon Prime. Popular filmmakers from Tamil cinema will be collaborating for this project. The makers are also holding talks with leading actors from Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu industries to play the lead roles.

Latest buzz is that Malayalam star Fahadh Faasil has been approached to star in the series. Fahadh was earlier supposed to act in Mani Ratnam’s ‘Chekka Chivantha Vaanam’ but he later opted out. It remains to be see if he will agree to be part of this new project. Suriya, Vijay Sethupathi and GV Prakash Kumar have also been approached by the makers.

The web series is being planned with Navarasa as the central theme. Reports suggest that Mani Ratnam, Bejoy Nambiar, Karthick Naren, Arvind Swamy, Siddharth, Sudha Kongara, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Jayendra Panchapakesan and KV Anand will be directing the nine episodes. An official word with complete details regarding the cast and crew is expected to be out soon.

Though classic yesteryear films getting remade is an usual thing in other languages, in Malayalam, it is still a rarity. Only very few films like ‘Nidra’ and ‘Rathinirvedam’ have been recreated for the new age but not very successfully. In a recent interview, young star Fahadh Faasil revealed about trying to get the rights of the classic 1982 film, ‘Yavanika’.

Directed by the legendary KG George, ‘Yavanika’ is a thrilling murder-mystery. Bharath Gopy, Jalaja, Mammootty and Venu Nagavally starred in the film. George’s storytelling and direction is considered way ahead of its time and the film enjoys a cult status.

In the interview, Fahadh said that acquiring the rights of ‘Yavanika’ is a bit complicated as someone is writing a book on it. He also spoke in length about how he is greatly influenced by the Malayalam films of the 80s. He even mentioned about KG George’s other films like ‘Adaminte Variyellu’ and ‘Lekhayude Maranam Oru Flashback’, ‘Ee Kanni Koodi’ etc.

Kaattu Payale: Soorarai Pottru new song teaser on the way!

Suriya’s upcoming film ‘Soorarai Pottru’ is easily one of the most awaited films of the season. Everything about the film including its teaser, trailer and other promos have been highly promising. With the censoring already done, the film is expected to release soon after theatres start functioning normally.

The makers have announced that an 1-minute long short teaser of the song ‘Kaattu Payale’ will be out on July 23 at 10 AM. The song features the lead pair, Suriya and Aparna Balamurali. It will be out in both Tamil and Telugu. ‘Rowdy Baby’ fame Dhee has sung the track.

‘Soorarai Pottru’ directed by Sudha Kongara is loosely based on the life of GR Gopinath, the founder of Air Deccan. The film follows the journey of Nedumaaran Rajangam Maara, a common man hailing from Madurai who dreams of owning an aircraft business. The cast also includes Paresh Rawal, Urvashi, Karunas, Vivek Prasanna, Kaali Venkatb and Mohan Babu.

Last day, the first look poster of Nivin Pauly’s upcoming film ‘Padavettu’ was released online. The poster features an intense looking Nivin holding a sword while sitting amidst some old men. It is an intriguing poster that doesn’t give any clue about the film’s genre or storyline. The poster has grabbed attention and many are sharing it. Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi shared the poster in his social media handle and wished the team luck.

‘Padavettu’ is written and directed by newbie Liju Krishna. Actor Sunny Wayne is making his feature film production debut with it. New Surya Films is presenting the film. Shoot is currently stalled halfway due to the Covid-19 situation. Aditi Balan of ‘Aruvi’ fame plays the female lead, Manju Warrrier and Shine Tom Chacko are also there in important roles.

On the technical front, Deepak D Menon cranks the camera and edits are being done by Shafique Mohamed Ali. Govind Vasantha is handling the music department.

In today’s times of OTTs, Fahadh Faasil is regarded as the poster boy of new gen Malayalam cinema among non-Keralites. Of late, almost several of his films have got tremendous reception and he enjoys a separate fan base among non-Malayali cinephiles. However, the actor didn’t get it all served easily. He had to go through the tough path as he worked hard to make his way up.

In a recent interview, Fahadh was asked to pick his 5 favorite performances from Malayalam. He made some interesting choices like Mohanlal and Thilakan from ‘Kireedam’, Mammootty from ‘New Delhi’ and ‘Thaniyavarthanam’ and Nedumudi Venu from ‘Dhanam’.

Fahadh also opened up about how he is greatly influenced by the Malayalam cinema of 80s. He is inspired by the works of Padmarajan and Bharathan and finds the actors in their films way ahead of their times. While talking about the legendary Thilakan, Fahadh said that he still has no idea about his style of acting — whether he emoted for people watching the screen or for the lenses.

As we already know, Malayalam blockbuster ‘Lucifer’ is set to be remade in Telugu. Chiranjeevi will be reprising the role played by Mohanlal in the original. The former’s son, actor Ram Charan is producing the film. Though Sukumar was initially supposed to direct the film, he opted out due to unknown reasons.

Later, the makers got Sujeeth of ‘Saaho’ fame on board. For the last few months, Sujeeth had been working on adapting the screenplay to make it suitable for the new target audience. However, Telugu medias report that Chiranjeevi is unhappy with Sujeeth’s script and is planning to replace him with VV Vinayak.

Veteran director Vinayak has had a fruitful collaboration with Chiranjeevi. The two had previously worked together in ‘Tagore’ and ‘Khaidi No. 150’. Interestingly, both these films were remakes of blockbuster Tamil films. ‘Tagore’ was the remake of ‘Ramana’ and ‘Khaidi No. 150’ was the remake of Vijay starrer ‘Kaththi’. This ability to successfully adapt hit films is possibly the reason why Vinayak’s name is being considered for ‘Lucifer’ remake.

There are also contrasting reports about Chiranjeevi completely dropping the idea of remaking ‘Lucifer’ and instead going ahead with other projects.

For the last few weeks, there have been several talks about Prithviraj starrer ‘Kaduva’ and Suresh Gopi’s 250th film. ‘Kaduva’ was supposed to be directed by Shaji Kailas and ‘SG 250’ was announced with debutant Mathew Thomas as the director. The controversy started when the makers of ‘Kaduva’ approached the court alleging that there were similarities between the two films. The Kerala high court then ordered a stay on the shoot and promotional activities of the Suresh Gopi starrer.

Veteran scenarist Renji Panicker later stated that nobody else can claim ownership over Kaduvakunnel Kuruvachan as it was he who first named that character. Interestingly, the character is based on a real life person named Kurivanakunnel Kuruvachan, who still resides in Pala.

More recently, Kurivanakunnel Kuruvachan came out opposing both ‘Kaduva’ and ‘SG 250’. He expressed his disapproval against both the films as they are being made without his consent. As per Kuruvachan, he had discussed the idea about a film only with Renji Panicker and if the other two parties decide to go ahead, he will be dealing with it legally.

After Kuruvachan came out with a statement, the makers of ‘Kaduva’ clarified that their film is not based on his life but completely fictional. Director Shaji Kailas has said that his film is about a young planter with no connection whatsoever to Kuruvachan.

Meanwhile, Tomichan Mulakuppadam, the producer of ‘SG 250’, has lashed out against ‘Kaduva’ team asking what was the need for a legal battle if the character and story was penned originally by Renji Panicker. He accused the makers of ‘Kaduva’ for misleading the court.

According to Mulakuppadam, ‘SG 250’ shoot had commenced in December 2019 itself. They had shot a few portions which were shown in the motion poster teaser. They have also registered the film’s title. The producer accuses that ‘Kaduva’ team decided to pursue a case only after seeing the massive response for his film’s teaser.

‘Dil Bechara’ is the official remake of the popular English film ‘The Fault In Our Stars’. It is directed by Mukesh Chhabra. The story is about two teenagers who fall in love after meeting at a cancer support group. Sanjana Sanghi is paired with Sushant Singh in the film. Saif Ali Khan will also be appearing in an extended cameo.

As a mark of respect to Sushant, Hotstar has made the film available for both subscribers and non-subscribers.
