Watch: Shylock makers release new success teaser

It has exactly been a week since the release of megastar Mammootty’s ‘Shylock’. The film has already done massive business thanks to the fans as well as the support of the family audience. Hundreds of special shows were added in the first few days to accommodate the rush. Likewise, in overseas centres like UAE and GCC centres, the film has grossed huge figures.

As ‘Shylock’ enters its second successful week of theatrical run, the makers have decided a new success teaser. The Ajai Vasudev directorial is a complete entertainer that is high on action mass moments. Mammootty’s tremendous energy, charisma and his quirky mannerisms has been the talking point of the film ever since its release. As per popular opinion, in what is otherwise an usual storyline, it is the megastar who holds things together.

In its second week, ‘Shylock’ still continues to do extremely well at all the centres in Kerala. It currently holds over 175 screens, which is huge considering the fact that it is facing stiff competition from films like ‘Anjaam Pathiraa’. Moreover, three Malayalam films – ‘Mariyam Vannu Vilakoodhi’, ‘Anveshanam’ and ‘Gauthamante Ratham’ have also been released today. Going by the initial response, ‘Shylock’ will definitely have a long run at the Kerala box office.

Thalaivar 168: Nayanthara joins the cast of Rajinikanth’s next

Superstar Rajinikanth’s next film, tentatively titled as ‘Thalaivar 168’, is being directed by Siva. Sun Pictures is producing the film. Shoot for the film has already commenced in Hyderabad. Keerthy Suresh, Meena, Khushbu, Prakash Raj, Sathish and Soori are already been confirmed in the cast. The makers have made a surprised announcement now.

Nayanthara has joined the already star-studded cast. This is her second successive film with Rajinikanth after the recently released ‘Darbar’. The two had earlier shared screen space in ‘Chandramukhi’ and in song in ‘Sivaji’.

Siva’s film is said to be a rural-based family entertainer on the lines of his last year’s blockbuster ‘Viswasam’. It remains to be seen who plays Rajinikanth’s pair in this yet-to-be titled film. Vetri is cranking the camera and Imman is handling music. The film is most likely to release for Diwali 2020.

Malayalam filmmaker Rosshan Andrrews has received his back belt in karate. January seems to be a lukcy month for the director as his birthday falls this year. His maiden film ‘Udayananu Tharam’ also hit screens in January. Last day, an excited Rosshan took to his social media handle to share the happy news about receiving his black belt. He has written,

My two passions in life cinema and Martial arts ! I was training under sensei Johny jose for the last 25 years . Today I got my black belt certificate !! Sensei Johny and Turing point thanks a ton ! I born in month of January, my first film released in month of January and today I got my black belt ! Thanks to January!!

Rosshan received the Black Belt certificate from Olympian Mercykuttan, President, Sports Council along with his Sensei Johnny Jose at the Annual Day celebration of Turning Point Academy.

Rosshan’s last film ‘Prathi Poovankozhi’ in which Manju Warrier played the lead also saw him debut as an actor. His stellar performance in a negative role was widely appreciated. The director will next be helming a cop flick with Dulquer Salmaan. His regular collaborators Bobby and Sanjay are scripting the film.

The trailer of Taapsee Pannu’s upcoming film ‘Thappad’ has just been released online. Anubhav Sinha has directed the film that seems to be dealing with a topic that’s very relevant in today’s times. ‘Thappad’, which means slap in Hindi, is about a woman who seeks divorce against her husband who slaps her in front of everyone while in a party.

A particular scene in the trailer reminds one of ‘Arjun Reddy’ director Sandeep Venga Reddy’s controversial statement that people who are in real love have the liberty to hit each other occasionally. From what we get from the trailer, it seems like the makers of ‘Thappad’ are making a strong statement that a slap is not a petty thing that should be brushed aside. Pavail Gulati plays the role of Taapsee’s husband in the film. If done right, this will be an important film about domestic violence.

Director Anubhav Sinha is fresh from the success of ‘Article 15’, a film that got nationwide attention for exposing the brutalities of caste based discrimination in Indian heartland. This is his second film with Taapsee Pannu after ‘Mulk’, which was a court room drama that discussed about the discrimination faced by Muslims in the country.

‘Thappad’ is scripted by director Anubhav along with Mrunmayee Lagoo Waikul. Soumik Sarmila Mukherjee is the DOP and Yasha Pushpa Ramachandani is the editor.

Hitting screens on January 23, ‘Shylock’ opened the phenomenal response. The film managed to have a whopping 100 + shows on the opening day alone. During the first weekend, the film continued to do massive business as families started visiting theatres in large numbers. Likewise, in overseas centres like UAE, the film has grossed huge figures.

‘Shylock’ is an out and out mass entertainer that has a terrific Mammootty in the lead. His energy, charisma and his quirky mannerisms seems to be the talking point of the film. In what is otherwise an usual storyline, it is the megastar who holds things together. Ajai Vasudev has directed the film. Bibin Mohan and Aneesh Hameed have jointly scripted it.

Vikram’s big budget action-thriller ‘Cobra’ is currently in the making. Ajay Gnanamuthu of ‘Demonte Colony’ and ‘Imaikka Nodigal’ fame is directing the film. Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan, ‘KGF’ actress Srinidhi Shetty and many other big names are part of the film. The makers had approached Malayali actor Shane Nigam to play a crucial role.

However, since Shane is caught up with issues with the Kerala Film Producers Council, he could not commit to the project. The offer has now reached Sarjano Khalid, who has grabbed it with both hands. The youngster had made his acting debut last year with ‘June’. He was more recently seen in an important role in ‘Big Brother’, as superstar Mohanlal’s younger brother.

Sarjano is expected to join the cast of ‘Cobra’ very soon. 7 Screen Studio is producing the film that is being shot across various countries. Academy award winner AR Rahman is composing music for the film.

Shoot for Dhanush’s new film ‘Karnan’ is currently progressing in Tirunelveli. ‘Pariyerum Perumal’ fame Mari Selvaraj is directing the film. Malayali actress Rajisha Vijayan is the female lead. Others in the supporting cast include Lal, Lakshmipriya Chandramouli, Azhagar Perumal, Natty aka Natarajan Subramanian and Yogi Babu. Latest to join the cast is Gouri Kishan of ’96’ fame.

Last day, Gouri took to her social media handle to share a photo taken with director Mari Selvaraj. She captioned it as,

‘Karnan’ is said to be based on the Manjolai Massacre or Thamirabani massacre of 1999. 17 labourers, including two women and a two-year-old child, got killed when they dived into the river to escape police lathi charge. Mari Selvaraj himself has scripted the film. DOP Theni Eswar and composer Santhosh Narayanan are part or the technical crew. Kalipuli S Thanu is producing the film under the banner of V Creations.

Jayasurya starrer ‘Anveshanam’ is all set to hit screens tomorrow (January 31). Prior to that, the makers had organized a special screening in Chennai for selected invitees. Actress Aishwarya Lekshmi was one of the few guests who got to watch the film and it seems like she was highly impressed by it. Aishwarya rated it as a highly relevant and moving film. She took to her Instagram handle to pen a detailed note heaping praise on the cast and crew members of ‘Anveshanam’. Her post reads,

‘Anveshanam’ directed by Prasobh Vijayan of ‘Lilli’ fame is a medical thriller. Shruthi Ramachandran, Vijay Babu, Lena, Nandu, Lal, Leona Lishoy, Srikanth Murali, Jai Vishnu, Shaju Sreedhar and many others are part of the supporting cast. The film is scripted by debutant Francis Thomas with additional screenplay and dialogues penned by Ranjeeth Kamala Sankar and Salil V. Sujith Vaassudev is the DOP and music is composed by Jakes Bejoy. Appu Bhattathiri is in charge of the edits while sound design is handled by Vishnu Govind and Sree Sankar of Sound Factory.

Sathyan Anthikad’s twin sons Akhil and Anoop are making their maiden films this year. While Anoop’s directorial debut ‘Varane Aavashyamund’ is gearing up to hit screens next month, Akhil’s film has just been launched. Fahadh Faasil is playing the lead role in it. Sethu Mannarkad of Full Moon Cinema is producing the film, which is yet to be titled.

Shoot commenced today with a customary pooja ceremony in Kochi. Viji Venkatesh, a renowned author, is making her acting debut with this film. She along with actor-dancer Vineeth have already started shooting for their portions. Anjana Jayaprakash, who recently appeared in the web series ‘Queen’, has been signed as the female lead.

Akhil Sathyan himself has scripted the film. On the technical front, he has got Sharan Velayudhan of ‘Ambili’ fame as the cinematographer and Justin Varghese to handle the music department. The film will be shot in Kerala, Goa and Mumbai.

Three promising Malayalam films slated for release tomorrow

A week after the Mammootty starrer ‘Shylock’ stormed theatres, Kerala box office witness will witness the release of three comparatively small yet promising films. ‘Anveshanam’, ‘Gauthamante Ratham’ and ‘Mariyam Vannu Vilakkoodhi’ are the three films slated to hit screens tomorrow (January 31).

‘Anveshanam’ stars Jayasurya, Vijay Babu, Sruthi Ramachandran and Leona Lishoy in the lead roles. The film directed by Prasobh Vijayan of ‘Lilli’ fame is a medical thriller with an emotional core. Debutant Francis Thomas has scripted the film with additional screenplay and dialogues penned by Ranjeeth Kamala Sankar and Salil V. Its trailer was highly promising and helped in raising the expectations among cinephiles.

‘Gauthamante Ratham’ is Neeraj Madhav’s first release as a lead actor. Debutant Anand Menon has directed the film, which promises to a fun, feel-good flick. The recently released romantic track ‘Uyire’ sung by South Indian sensation Sid Sriram has grabbed attention in social medias. With positive word of mouth, the film is expected to do well. Funtastic Films headed by Aju Varghese, Dhyan Sreenivasan and Visakh Subramanian is releasing the film in Kerala.

‘Mariyam Vannu Vilakkoodhi’ first got noticed by many thanks to the innovative promos. Intriguing posters, teasers and the more recent promo song have all been well received. The film written and directed by debutant Jenith Kachappilly is a stoner comedy. ‘Premam’ gang of Siju Wilson, Krishna Shankar, Shabareesh Varma and Althaf Salim play the lead roles.
