The first character introduction poster of ‘Marakkar Arabikadalinte Simham’ got released online last day. Keerthy Suresh plays a character named Aarcha in the film. The National award winning actress is making a comeback to Malayalam industry after a long gap. Her last outing in Malayalam was ‘Ring Master’ that got released six years back in 2014.

‘Marakkar Arabikadalinte Simham’ is an ambitious film directed by Priyadarshan. It is an epic period film based on the life of Kunjali Marakkar IV, which is played by superstar Mohanlal. Priyadarshan has penned the screenplay jointly with Ani IV Sasi. National award winning cinematographers Tirru and Sabu Cyril are part of the technical team.

The cast includes actors from across the country like Suniel Shetty, Arjun Sarja, Manju Warrier, Ashok Selvan, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Prabhu, Mukesh, Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Fazil, Siddique, Baburaj, Nedumudi Venu, Hareesh Perady, Nandu, Innocent, Ganesh Kumar and Suresh Kumar.

Aashirvad Cinemas, Confident Group and Moonshot Entertainment are jointly producing this mega budget film. Besides the original Malayalam version, the film will also be releasing in 4 other languages.

Director Abrid Shine’s new film ‘The Kung Fu Master’ is getting ready for release on January 24. Neeta Pillai, who grabbed attention with her fabulous performance in ‘Poomaram’, has done the lead role in the film. She plays a character named Rithu Ram and a new poster featuring her has just been released online.

Neeta had undergone intense training in martial arts before working on the film. She was also injured multiple times while shooting. Along with her, Jiji Scaria and Sanoop Dinesh have played the other major roles. Sooraj S Kurup, Anju Balachandran, Ramamoorthy, Rajan Varghese, Vinod Mathew, Hareesh Babu, Jayesh K, Rangith PB and James J are also part of the supporting cast.

‘The Kung Fu Master’ is anything unlike what the director has done previously. It is an out and out martial arts action film set in Himalayas. As per the makers, it will be a refreshingly new kind of film that Malayalam cinema has not seen before. While Abrid Shine’s earlier films were all based on his personal experiences or the things that he has seen in his life, ‘The Kung Fu Master’ is a completely fictious film that is inspired from the action films of Jackie Chan, Jet Li and Bruce Lee.

The film produced under the banner of Full On Studio Frames is slated to hit screens on January 24.

Director Abrid Shine’s new film ‘The Kung Fu Master’ is getting ready to hit screens later this month. It is anything unlike what the director has done previously. It is an out and out martial arts action film set in Himalayas. As per the director, ‘The Kung Fu Master’ will be a kind of film that Malayalam cinema has not seen before. He believes that Malayali audience are extremely brilliant and always expect something new. Abrid Shine is hoping that his new film can offer them a completely new experience.

While Abrid Shine’s earlier films were all based on his personal experiences or the things that he has seen in his life, ‘The Kung Fu Master’ is a completely fictious film that is inspired from the action films of Jackie Chan, Jet Li and Bruce Lee.

Three biggies scheduled to hit screens in February!

This coming February, Kerala box office will witness the release of three highly promising films — ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’, ‘Varane Avashyamund’ and ‘Trance’. All three films have high expectations among the Malayali audience.

‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ directed by Sachi stars Prithviraj Sukumaran and Biju Menon in the lead roles. It is reunion of the ‘Anarkali’ trio and expectations are hence on the higher side. The posters and teaser have all been impressive. The film is centred around a conflict between a police constable and a retired solider over a legal issue. Biju Menon plays Ayappan Nair, a middle-aged police constable and Prithviraj essays the part of Koshy Kurian, a havildar who is retired from army after 16 years of service. As per Prithviraj, it is a very intense, realistic kind of cinema. The makers are eyeing a February first week release.

‘Varane Avashyamund’ is also gearing up for release during the same time. The film is eagerly awaited for more than one reason. It marks the directorial debut of Sathyan Anthikad’s son Anoop Sathyan. There is also a dream star comprising of Dulquer Salmaan, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Suresh Gopi and Shobhana in the lead roles. Veterans Shobhana and Suresh Gopi are acting together after 15 years. Kalyani Priyadarshan, who has already made a mark in Telugu and Tamil cinema, is making her full length Malayalam debut. Besides playing one of the leads, Dulquer Salmaan is also producing the film under his banner of Wayfarer Films. All these factors combine to make it one of the most anticipated films of the year.

Next in the list of biggies slated for February release is ‘Trance’. This Anwar Rasheed directorial had tremendous expectations right from the time it got announced. Fahadh Faasil and Nazriya play the lead roles in the film that has been in the making for almost 2 years. The film was supposed to release much earlier but got postponed multiple times. Recently, it was confirmed that the film will be hitting screens on February 14. ‘Trance’ is a highly ambitious project that has some big names like Amal Neerad and Academy award winner Resul Pookutty involved in it.

So, February promises to a great month as far as Malayalam film industry’s trade circles and general audience are considered. We’ll have to wait and see which of these films emerge as the real winner at the box office.

Parvathy is known for being very choosy with her projects. The National award winner was last seen in the multi-starrer ‘Virus’. She has now played a cameo role in ‘Halal Love Story’. This is probably the first time Parvathy has done a guest role in a Malayalam film.

‘Halal Love Story’ comes from the National award winning team of ‘Sudani From Nigeria’. Zakariya is directing and co-scripting the film along with Muhsin Parari. Indrajith Sukumaran, Sharafudheen, Joju George and Grace Antony play the lead roles in the film. It is said to be a feel-good comedy flick with some subtle political commentary in it.

It will be interesting to see what role Parvathy plays in it. The actress is very excited to be a part of the film. In a recent interview with The Hindu, she is quoted saying, “I had wanted to be part of a different genre. ‘Halal Love Story’ is a big departure from the usual genres of films I’ve done. I can’t give away much about the movie but I’m very excited to explore uncharted territory.”

Filmmaker Aashiq Abu is producing ‘Halal Love Story’ along with Jesna Ashim and Harshad Ali. The makers have confirmed that the film will be hitting screens for Vishu 2020.

Trance: Soubin Shahir to sing a track in Vinayakan’s composition

The long wait for Anwar Rasheed’s ‘Trance’ is coming to an end next month. As announced recently by the makers, the film will be hitting screens on February 14. ‘Trance’ is a highly ambitious project that has Fahadh Faasil and Nazriya in the lead roles. Several big names are part of the film like Academy Award winning sound designer Resul Pookutty and cinematographer Amal Neerad.

Debutant Vincent Vadakkan has scripted ‘Trance’ but as of yet, nothing much is known regarding its genre or plot details. But we hear that music is a very important part of the film. Rex Vijayan’s brother Jackson Vijayan is handling the music department along with Sushin Shyam.

Apart from these two, actor Vinayakan has also composed a track in the film. Soubin Shahir has lent his voice for this song, which is said to be the film’s opening song. Vinayak Sasikumar has penned the lyrics. While this is Soubin’s first attempt in playback singing, it is the second time Vinayakan is composing a song for a feature film. The song ‘Puzhu Pulikal’ he composed in Rajeev Ravi’s ‘Kammattipaadam’ was well received as it carried the soul of the whole film.

Soubin and Vinayakan are also playing important roles in the film. The cast also includes Gautham Vasudev Menon, Chemban Vinod Jose, Dileesh Pothan, Arjun Ashokan, Jinu Joseph, Srinda, Dharmajan, Sreenath Bhasi and many others.

‘Trance’ is scheduled for release on February 14 and the makers are working hard to ensure a smooth release this time.

Parvathy confirms turning a director next year!

Parvathy is easily one of the most accomplished female actors in South Indian cinema. The National award winner has already proven her skills in front of camera and now it’s time for her to move to the other side. She has revealed that she will be starting works on her directorial debut by the end of this year. Pre-production works will be starting by November this year and shoot will be begin in 2021.

Interestingly, Parvathy is also co-scripting her directorial debut. She currently has zeroed in two subjects – one with a strong political background and the other one, a thriller that explores the psychological space between two people. Both the film demands immense research and Parvathy is currently on it. An official announcement regarding the cast and crew is expected to be made in a few months time.

On the acting front, Parvathy recently shot for ‘Rachiyamma’, a segment directed by Venu as part of an anthology. The film is based on Uroob’s popular short story of the same name. ‘Varthamanam’ directed by Sidhartha Siva is her other film that’s slated to release this year. She also has a couple of other acting commitments to be finished before starting works for her directorial venture.

Mammootty’s much awaited film ‘Shylock’ is all set to hit screens on January 23. Fans have pinned huge expectations on the film courtesy the impressive promos so far. Last day, a new song from the film got released online. It is a typical bar dance number that we usually get to see in mass flicks. Swetha Ashok, Narayani Gopan and Nanda J Devan have lent their voices to Gopi Sunder’s composition. Popular Tamil lyricist Viveka has penned the lyrics. The song is getting great response with over 4 lakh views and is currently at the top position in the YouTube trending list.

‘Shylock’ is an out and out mass entertainer directed by Ajai Vasudev of ‘Rajadhiraja’ and ‘Masterpiece’ fame. Bibin Mohan and Aneesh Hameed have jointly scripted ‘Shylock’. Along with Mammootty, the film also veteran Tamil actor Raj Kiran in a prominent role. There is a big supporting cast which comprises of actors like Meena, Bibin George, Baiju, John Kaippallil Siddique, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Anson Paul, Arthana Binu, John Vijay, Arjun Nandakumar and Hareesh Kanaran.

‘Shylock’ also has a dubbed Tamil version which is titled as ‘Kuselan’. Actor Raj Kiran has penned the Tamil dialogues. DOP Renadive, composer Gopi Sunder and editor Riyas K Badhar form the core technical crew. Joby George of Goodwill Entertainment is producing the film.

‘Big Brother’ has Mohanlal playing a mysterious character named Sachidhnandan. He has a dark past with drug mafia where he was called Edwin Mosses. Mohanlal, Anoop Menon and ‘June’ fame Sarjano Khalid play siblings in the film. Debutante Gadha, Honey Rose, Mirna Menon and Satna Titus are the female leads.

Bollywood actor Arbaaz Khan is making his Malayalam debut by playing a police officer’s role. Actor Vineeth has dubbed for Arbaaz. Vishnu Unnikrishnan, Irshad, John Vijay, Tini Tom, Janardhanan, Chemban Vinod Jose and many others are part of the film’s supporting cast.

As informed last day, the first look poster of Fahadh Faasil starrer ‘Malik’ has been released online. Superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty shared the poster through their respective social media handles. ‘Malik’ is directed by editor-turned-filmmaker Mahesh Narayanan of ‘Take Off’ fame. Anto Joseph Film Company is producing the film, which is said to be made on a lavish budget of close to Rs 30 crores.

‘Malik’ is based on a real life incident that occurred few years back in Kerala. The film is a political thriller centred around a sensitive coastal area where there was a resistance against the constant threat of displacement of a minority community. Along with Fahadh Faasil, the cast also includes talented actors like Joju George, Nimisha Sajayan, Vinay Forrt and Dileesh Pothan in major roles.

Shoot got wrapped up just recently and the makers are planning to release the film in April during the Vishu season.
