Santosh Sivan’s son Sarvajit makes his acting debut with Varane Avashyamund

‘Varane Aavashyamund’, the directorial debut of Sathyan Anthikad’s son Anoop Sathyan is currently in the post-production stage. The film starring Dulquer Salmaan, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Suresh Gopi and Shobhana in the lead roles is among the most awaited Malayalam films scheduled for release in the first half of 2020. If things turn out as per plans, it will be hitting screens in February.

‘Varane Aavashyamund’ is a special film for many reasons. Veterans Shobhana and Suresh Gopi are acting together after nearly 15 years. It is also a collaboration of three celebrity kids – Anoop Sathyan, Dulquer and Kalyani. Interestingly, another celebrity kid is part of the film. Ace cinematographer Santosh Sivan’s son Sarvajit is making his acting debut with the film. Working stills of the kid along with Dulquer and Shobhana have been shared by the makers.

‘Varane Avishyamundu’ scripted by Anoop Sathyan is said to be a family entertainer. The film has ‘Uyare’ fame Mukesh Muraleedharan as the DOP and Alphons Joseph as the composer. Dulquer’s Wayfarer Films is producing the film along with M Star Entertainments.

Cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Venu is adapting Sahitya Akademi Award winning writer Uroob’s popular short story ‘Rachiyamma’ for a segment in an upcoming anthology. Parvathy and Asif Ali are playing the leads in the film. Recently, a working still of Parvathy from the film’s sets got released online. Those who have read the story can easily relate to Parvathy’s look in it. Earlier, there was a serial in Doorshan based on the same story. Sona Nair, who played the lead in it, also had the same look.

Venu has already completed the shoot and is working on the post-production. This upcoming anthology also has films by ‘Ezra’ fame Jay K, Rajeev Ravi and Aashiq Abu. All the four films have female-centric stories. Jay K’s film has Samyuktha Menon and Joju George in the leads while Roshan Mathew and Darshana Rajendran star in Aashiq Abu’s film ‘Pennum Cherukkanum’. Rajeev Ravi will start shooting for his film only after the completion of his ambitious feature, ‘Thuramukham’.

Dulquer is the co-star I have learnt the most from: Kalyani Priyadarshan

Kalyani Priyadarshan is already a popular name along the South Indian film buffs courtesy her performance in Telugu films like ‘Hello’, ‘Ranarangam’ and her recently released Tamil film ‘Hero’. However, the pretty actress is yet to make her debut in her home industry, Malayalam. She is now debuting in M Town with a cameo role in her father Priyadarshan’s ambitious film ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’.

Since it is a brief appearance, Kalyani’s first full length outing in Malayalam will be with ‘Varane Avavshyamund’, in which she shares screen space with the likes of Shobhana, Suresh Gopi, Dulquer Salmaan and Urvashi. Sathyan Anthikad’s son Anoop Sathyan is directing the film which is currently in the post-production stage.

Kalyani had waited for long to make her Malayalam debut with a good film and she now feels that ‘Varane Avashymund’ is worth all the wait. The actress has pinned high hopes on the film as believes that the audience will get to see her real potential in it.

In a recent interview to TOI, Kalyani also opened up about her working experience in the film. Though their celebrity fathers were close friends, Dulquer and Kalyni hardly met. It was during the pooja function of their film that they both first interacted. According to her, Dulquer is the co-star from whom she has learnt the most from.

If things turn out as per plans, ‘Varane Avashyamundu’ will be hitting screens in February. Dulquer Salmaan is producing the film under his banner of Wayfarer Films. M Star Communications is also associated with the production.

Zakariya’s Halal Love Story confirmed as Vishu release!

‘Halal Love Story’ is Zakariya’s second film after his National award winning directorial debut, ‘Sudani From Nigeria’. The new film has Joju George, Indrajith Sukumaran, Sharafudheen and Grace Antony in the lead roles. Filmmaker Aashiq Abu is producing the film along with Jesna Ashim and Harshad Ali.

The makers have confirmed that the film will be hitting screens for Vishu 2020. Aashiq Abu announced the same by releasing a couple of posters through his official social media handle. One poster features Indrajith Sukumaran and Grace Antony while the other has Sharafudheen, Joju George, Soubin Shahir and Abhiram Pothuval.

‘Halal Love Story’ looks like a feel-good comedy film. Earlier in a Facebook post, Indrajith had written that his character in the film is one be the most layered humour roles that he has done so far. The film is scripted jointly by Zakariya and Muhsin Parari, who both had also penned ‘Sudani From Nigeria’.

Ajay Menon is the cinematographer and edits will be handled by Saiju Sreedharan. Bijibal and Shahabaz Aman are jointly composing the music.

Ananda Vikatan Cinema Awards announced; Here’s the list of winners!

Ananda Vikatan is a popular Tamil language weekly magazine and every year they honour the best from Kollywood. This year’s award ceremony was held last day in Chennai. ‘Peranbu’ directed by Ram won the award for Best Film. ‘Asuran’ maker Vetrimaaran won the award for Best Director and the same film helped Dhanush bag the award for Best Actor. Taapsee Panni was chosen as the Best Actress for her performance in ‘Game Over’.

Thiagaraja Kumararaja’s highly acclaimed film ‘Super Deluxe’ bagged a few awards including the Best Supporting Actress award for Ramya Krishnan. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s brilliant work in it along with ‘Peranbu’ won him the award for Best Music Director. PS Vinod and Nirav Shah, the cinematographers of ‘Super Deluxe’ were also honoured.

George Maryan, who delivered a surprisingly remarkable performance in the blockbuster film ‘Kaithi’, was chosen as the Best Supporting Actor.

Shoot for Mani Ratnam’s dream project ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is currently progressing in Thailand. The film has a star-studded cast, probably one of the biggest ever in an Indian film. It has actors from various industries like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Trisha, Vikram Prabhu, Sarath Kumar, Prabhu, Kishore, Rahman, Jayaram, Lal and Ashwin Kakumanu.

Veteran Jayaram recently shared a photo taken with Jayam Ravi and Karthi in his social media handle. While Jayaram is sporting a clean shaven look currently, the other two actors are seen with long hair and beard that resemble warriors of that era. Prior to the shoot, they had all undergone training in horse riding, sword fight and other martial arts.

‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is actually a historical Tamil novel written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. In five volumes, or about 2400 pages, it tells the story of early days of Arulmozhivarman, who later became the great Chola emperor Raja Raja Chola I. Mani Ratnam has adapted its screenplay along with Siva Anand and Kumaravel. Jayamohan has penned the dialogues.

Cinematographer Ravi Varman, editor Sreekar Prasad and composer AR Rahman form the core technical crew. Mani Ratnam’s own banner Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions are collaborating for this mega budget film’s production.

The teaser of upcoming Tamil multi-starrer ‘Vaanam Kottattum’ has been released online. Actor Dhanush shared the teaser through his official social media handle. The film stars Sarath Kumar, Aishwarya Rajesh, Vikram Prabhu, Radhika Sarath Kumar, Madonna Sebastian and Shanthanu Bhagyaraj in major roles. The film is co-written and directed by Dhana Sekaran of ‘Padaiveeran’ fame.

Ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam has co-written the film and is also producing it under his banner of Madras Talkies. From the teaser, the film looks highly promising. It seems to be a family drama with a twist. Vikram Prabhu and Aishwarya Rajesh will be seen as siblings in the film. From the mysterious build up in the teaser, Sarath Kumar’s character in the film seems to be of high importance.

‘Vaanam Kottattum’ marks the debut of popular playback singer Sid Sriram as a music director. Preetha Jayaraman is the cinematographer and Sangathamizhan E handles the edits. Along with the teaser, the makers have also announced that the film will be hitting screens om February 7.

Martin Prakkatt’s next after Charlie set to go on floors!

Five years after the release of his sensational hit film, ‘Charlie’, Martin Prakkat is finally making his comeback as a filmmaker. His new film has Kunchacko Boban, Joju George and Nimisha Sajayan in the lead roles. The film is scripted by Shahi Kabir, who made his debut as a scenarist last year with the superhit film ‘Joseph’. Pre-production works have been progressing for the last few months and shoot is slated to begin on January 11.

Though details regarding the film’s genre is not yet known, we hear that Kunchacko Boban plays the role of a police officer in it. The actor has previously done cop roles in films like ‘School Bus’ and ‘Allu Ramendran’. Unlike his earlier films, this one will have more scope for performance and the actor is quite excited about it.

It must be noted that scriptwriter Shahi Kabir is a policeman in his real-life. His experiences as a cop proved to be helpful in ‘Joseph’, which was a story about a retired policeman exposing the organ transplant mafia operating in the state. His detailed writing in the film was widely appreciated. It seems like his new film with director Martin Prakkat also belong to his familiar terrain.

This yet-to-be titled film has a good technical crew. Shyju Khalid has been signed as the cinematographer and Mahesh Narayanan will be handling the edits. Vishnu Vijay of ‘Ambili’ and ‘Guppy’ fame will be composing the music. Martin Prakkat is jointly producing the film with veteran director Ranjith’s Gold Coin Motion Pictures.

Soorarai Pottru teaser garners extraordinary response as fans welcome vintage Suriya!

Amidst high expectations, the teaser of Suriya starrer ‘Soorarai Pottru’ got released online lady day. Going by the response in social medias, one can easily say that the teaser has exceeded all the expectations. This highly ambitious film directed by ‘Irudhi Suttru’ fame Sudha Kongara is loosely based on the life of GR Gopinath, the founder of Air Deccan, who is also a retired captain of the Indian army. Sudha has scripted the film along with Shalini Usha Nair.

From the teaser we can make out that, Suriya plays a character named Nedumaaran Rajangam Maara, a common man hailing from a small town who dreams of owning an aircraft business. Suriya is absolutely riveting in the teaser as we see glimpses of a power-packed performance. It has been a long while since he has done such a powerful role and now it looks like the vintage Suriya is back.

Fans, cinephiles as well as industry insiders have been highly impressed by the teaser. The film has shades of Mani Ratnam’s ‘Guru’, which is also the story of the rise of an industrialist. It is worth a mention here that director Sudha was a former associate of Mani Ratnam.

Along with Suriya, the cast of ‘Soorarai Pottru’ also includes veterans Paresh Rawal, Jackie Shroff and Mohan Babu in major roles. Malayali actress Aparna Balamurali plays the female lead. GV Prakash is composing the music and cinematography is done by Niketh Bommireddy. Academy Award winner Guneet Monga’s Sikhya Entertainment is producing the film jointly with Suriya’s own production house, 2D Entertainment.

‘Velleppam’ is an upcoming rom-com entertainer starring ‘Pathinettam Padi’ fame Akshay Radhakrishnan and ‘Oru Adaar Love’ fame Noorin Shereef in the lead roles. Debutant Praveen Raj Pookkadan is directing the film, shoot for which is currently underway in Thrissur. The makers have released the second look poster online. The poster features Shine Tom Chacko, who plays a communist leader in the film.

The makers have not yet revealed the character name of Shine but it is learnt that he is essaying a very prominent role in the film. Roma Asrani, who was been away from films for over two years, is also making her comeback with ‘Velleppam’. She will be seen in the role of Akshay Radhakrishnan’s sister in the film.

Newcomer Jeevan Lal has scripted ‘Velleppam’, which is said to be a fun rom-com with fantasy elements. The cast also includes ‘Thaneer Mathan Dhinangal’ fame Vaishak Rajan, Sreejith Ravi,n’June’ fame Fahim Safar, debutant Sanif and many others. On the technical side, the film has Shihab Ongallur as the DOP and Shameer Muhammed as the editor.

Veteran music director SP Venkitesh, is making his comeback with this film. Eri Johonson is also composing a song. ‘Velleppam’ is being produced by Jins Thomas and Dhwarak Udhayshankar under the banner of Baroque Films.
