Namo: Jayaram sheds weight and shaves head for his new film!

Veteran Malayali actor Jayaram has undergone a major physical transformation for his new film, ‘Namo’, which is being made completely in Sanskrit language. The actor has shaved his head besides losing around 20 kgs of weight for the film. It is directed by Vijeesh Mani, who is best known for the film ‘Vishwaguru’ that was made and released in 51 hours and 2 minutes. He had created a new Guinness World Record with that film. It received an Asia Book of Records certification as well. Vijeesh had also made the film ‘Netaji’ in Irula language with producer Gokulam Gopalan as a lead actor. The film also won a Guinness award, this time for being the first tribal language film.

The director’s new Sanskrit film ‘Namo’ is based on the friendship between Lord Krishna and Kuchela or Sudama. Jayaram will be seen playing the role of Kuchelan in it. Sarkar Desai, Mythili Javedkar, Raj and many other actors from across the country are part of the cast. There are some big names in the technical team as well. Padma Shri award winner Anup Jalota, popularly known as the ‘Bhajan Samraat’ is composing music for the film. Six time National award winner B Lenin is the editor and S Lokanathan handles the camera.

Recently, as part of promotions of his latest release ‘Driving Licence’, Prithviraj Sukumaran had an open interaction with fans where he talked about his fellow actors, not just from Malayalam but from other industries as well. He shared about his experiences with other language stars like Rajinikanth, Vijay, Ajith, Suriya, Vikram etc.

When someone from the audience asked about how he sees Vijay as an actor, Prithviraj opined that Vijay is no more just another Tamil actor but one of India’s biggest superstars. He is quoted saying,

“I’ve met and interacted with Vijay sir quite a few times. He is easily one of Indian cinema’s biggest stars in terms of the revenue his films generate across the country. The massive business that his films does regularly change the schematics of an industry. With thr release of each of his films, there is a growing belief that a Tamil cinema can generate so much revenue. So in a lot of ways, I think Vijay sir is one of the most influential superstars in Tamil commercial cinema. Moreover, his evolution as an actor and as a star over the last few years have been highly impressive. He is very conscious of his space and hence carefully picks and designs projects. In that way, he is also extremely intelligent. Vijay also has an infectious superstar charisma similar to Amitabh Bachchan. Though he comes across as a very silent person, there is an innate charisma that he carries.”

It is worth a mention that Prithviraj Productions had disturbed Vijay’s blockbuster film ‘Bigil’ in Kerala along with Magic Frames. The Atlee directorial that got released last October during the Diwali season emerged as a huge success. It is currently among the top league in the list of highest grossing other language films in Kerala.

Priya Mani to reprise Manju Warrier’s role in Asuran Telugu remake!

Last year’s highly acclaimed Tamil film ‘Asuran’ is all set to get remade in Telugu. Veteran star Venkatesh will be reprising Dhanush’s role from the original and it will be directed by Srikanth Addala. Suresh Productions and Kalaipuli S Thanu’s V Creations will be jointly producing the remake version.

Interestingly, the makers have got Priya Mani to play the female lead. She will be stepping in the shoes of Manju Warrier, who had delivered a powerful performance in ‘Asuran’. Priya Mani, a National award winner, seems to be an ideal choice as the female lead’s character has much prominence in the film.

Along with all the critical acclaim, ‘Asuran’ was also a phenomenal success at the box office. The Vetrimaaran directorial even entered the Rs 100 crore mark, thereby becoming Dhanush’s first film to achieve the feat. The makers of the Telugu version will be hoping to repeat the success.

Unni Mukundan is one of those very few actors from Malayalam cinema who have been willing to go that extra yard to transform physically according to the needs of a character. Last year, for playing a warrior’s role in ‘Mamangam’, the actor had developed a strong, ripped physique. Currently, he is in the process of letting go off all the muscles he developed for his new film ‘Meppadiyan’.

After the completion of ‘Mamangam’, Unni Mukundan had been on a four-month long break. He has undergone a new makeover for ‘Meppadiyan’, in which he will be seen as an average Malayali youth. Last day, Unni took to his social media handle to share a new photo in which he is seen with a flabby tummy. Along with that, he has written,

Took me 11 months to prepare for Chandroth Panicker, to be the Man that He Was, physically and emotionally! And that’s done and dusted, a thing of the past now ! Thanks u for loving him !! However, since the last 4 months, I have been busy letting all the muscles go by, as you can see, I have my neat kudavayaru. This transformation is for my next Movie, Meppadiyan. Jayakrishnan is a very normal guy. The look will be justified while you watch the film. Expecting your support. And, Letting each one of you know that the movie has no action sequences. The official trailer of Namitha Pramod starrer ‘Al Mallu’ dropped in last day. The film is scripted and directed by Boban Samuel, who has previously helmed hit films like ‘Janapriyan’ and ‘Romans’. From the trailer, the film looks like a female-centric thriller. The story written jointly by Jayan Naduvathazhath and Dr Rajath R is set entirely in the Gulf region.

The film’s supporting cast includes actors like Miya George, Lal, Sheelu Abraham Midhun, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Reshmi Boban and many others. A bunch of newcomers are also part of the film. On the technical side, Vivek Menon has cranked the camera and ‘Joseph’ fame Ranjin Raj is handling the music department. Deepu Joseph is editing the film. Sound designer Rajakrishnan, action choreographer Mafia Sasi, costume designer Melwy J and lyricist BK Harinarayanan are also part of the team.

‘Al Mallu’ is being produced by Sajils Majeed under the banner of Mehfil Productions.

Mammootty’s Mamangam storms past the 135 crore mark!

Mammootty starrer ‘Mamangam’ is turning out to be a massive blockbuster, as per the makers. They have informed that the film has crossed the Rs 135 crore mark as it nears its 25th day of theatrical run. According to them, the film is still being screened in 45 countries across the world.

‘Mamangam’ is directed by M Padmakumar and produced by Venu Kunnappilly. Shanker Ramakrishnan has penned the adapted screenplay. The film tells the the story of chaaverukal (suicide warriors) from Chandroth family who try to kill the Zamorin ruler during the Mamangam festival, which is held only every 12 years. Mammootty, Unni Mukundan and Master Achuthan have played the major roles in the film.

‘Mamangam’ got released worldwide on December 12 in four languages – Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. It was only recently that the makers informed about a Hong Kong-based company acquiring the China distribution rights for a record price.

Asuran combo reunites for Suriya 40!

It was recently announced that Suriya would be joining hands with multiple National award-winning filmmaker Vetrimaaran for a new film. Kalaippuli S Thanu of V Creations is producing the film, which has been titled as ‘Suriya 40’. The makers have just now announced that GV Prakash will be composing music for the film. This is a milestone 75th film for GV as a composer.

It just be noted that Vetrimaaran’s last released blockbuster film, ‘Asuran’ was also produced by Kalaippuli S Thanu and had music by GV Prakash. So ‘Suriya 40’ is basically like the reunion of the ‘Asuran’ trio of Vetrimaaran, GV Prakash and Thanu.

Except for ‘Vada Chennai’, which had music by Santhosh Narayanan, all of Vetrimaaran’s other films had GV Prakash as the composer. So the duo share a great rapport and the results have always been great. They will be hoping to continue their good run with the upcoming Suriya starrer.

Suriya has been through a rough patch over the last few years. Vetri’s film might be the much needed comeback film for him. More details regarding the film’s title, and other cast and crew members, are expected to be revealed in the coming days.

We were among the first to report about Manju Warrier and Sunny Wayne coming together for a new film to be directed by debutants Ranjeet Kamala Sankar and Salil V. The film has been titled as ‘Chathur Mugham’ and its title poster has been shared by the lead actors through their respective social media handles.

‘Chathur Mugham’, as confirmed by the makers, is a horror thriller. Lead actors Manju and Sunny Wayne are coming together for the first time, so their on-screen rapport will be something ingesting to watch out for. Alencier Ley Lopez will also be seen in a major role.

Director Abrid Shine’s new film ‘The Kung Fu Master’ is getting ready to hit screens. A new poster of the film featuring the three lead actors, Neeta Pillai, Jiji Scaria and Sanoop Dinesh, has been released online. From the recently released trailer, the film looks totally in contrast with what the director has done previously. It is an out and out martial arts action film set in Himalayas, probably a first such attempt in Malayalam.

According to Abrid Shine, his earlier films were all based on his personal experiences or the things that he has seen in his film. However, ‘The Kung Fu Master’ is a completely fictious film that is inspired from the action films of Jackie Chan, Jet Li and Bruce Lee.

We heard that all the three actors had undergone intense training in martial arts before shooting for the film. Sooraj S Kurup, Anju Balachandran, Ramamoorthy, Rajan Varghese, Vinod Mathew, Hareesh Babu, Jayesh K, Rangith PB and James J are also part of the supporting cast.

Major Ravi’s son Arjun, a former associate of Jomon T John, is making his debut as an independent cinematographer with this film. Ishaan Chhabra is the music director and edits are handled by KR Midhun. The film is being produced under the banner of Full On Studio Frames.

Release date announced for Jayasurya’s Anveshanam

Jayasurya’s long awaited film ‘Anveshanam’ has finally got a release date. The film, which has been in the making, for over a year now, will be hitting screens on January 31. The makers confirmed the release date on New Year’s Day by releasing a new poster. The intriguingly designed poster has got people talking about the film.

‘Anveshanam’ is directed by Prasobh Vijayan, who made an impressive debut last year with the A-rated thriller, ‘Lilli’. It stars ‘Pretham’ fame Shruti Ramachandran as the female lead. Vijay Babu also plays a crucial role in the film. It is scripted by debutant Francis Thomas. Additional screenplay and dialogues are penned by Ranjeeth Kamala Sankar and Salil V. On the technical side, Sujith Vaassudev is the cinematographer and music is by Jakes Bejoy. Appu Bhattathiri is in charge of the edits while sound design is handled by Vishnu Govind and Sree Sankar of Sound Factory.

Mukesh R Mehta, AV Anoop and CV Sarathi are jointly producing ‘Anveshnam’ under the banner of E4 Entertainment.
