Manju Warrier-Sunny Wayne team’s horror thriller launched

We were among the first to report about Manju Warrier and Sunny Wayne coming together for a new film. Debutant directors Raneejt Kamala Sankar and Salil V are jointly helming the film. The film’s official launch was held last day in Thiruvananthapuram. Cultural Affairs Minister AK Balan attended the switch on ceremony.

Manju Warrier-Sunny Wayne team’s horror thriller launched

The film’s directors Raneejt Kamala Sankar, Salil V and writers Anil Kumar and Abhaya Kumar were all associates of filmmaker Ranjith Sankar. The writer duo had earlier joined Ranjith Sankar in penning the screenplay for ‘Punyalan Agarbathis’. Likewise, Raneejt Kamala Sankar and Salil V had jointly scripted the Asif Ali starrer ‘Kohinoor’. They are also credited for the additional screenplay of Jayasurya’s upcoming thriller film ‘Anveshnam’.

Mohanlal’s new film ‘Big Brother’ is getting ready for release. First set of promotions have begun as the makers have been started releasing character posters. The posters featuring Arbaaz Khan and Anoop Menon have been released so far. Arbaaz, who is making his Malayalam debut, plays a police officer’s character named Vedantham. Anoop Menon plays a doctor named Vishnu.

According to the makers, ‘Big Brother’ is a complete entertainer with all commercial elements in it. The film has Mohanlal, Anoop Menon and ‘June’ fame Sarjano Khalid as siblings. Mirna Menon, Gadha, Honey Rose, Vishnu Unnikrishnan, Siddique, Tini Tom, Janardhanan, Satna Titus and Chemban Vinod Jose are also part of the supporting cast.

The teaser of ‘Raangi’, an upcoming female-centric Tamil thriller film starring Trisha in the lead has been released online. The film is being directed by M Saravanan of ‘Engeyum Eppothum’ fame. His mentor, ace filmmaker AR Murugadoss has penned the film’s story. It is being produced by Lyca Productions, one of the leading banners in Kollywood. The teaser of ‘Raangi’ was originally unveiled during the audio launch event of superstar Rajinikanth’s ‘Darbar’ yesterday. It is worth a mention that both the films are produced by the same banner.

‘Raangi’ also marks the Tamil debut of Malayalam actress Anaswara Rajan. She plays a crucial role in the film. Anaswara made her debut with a notable performance in the Manju Warrier starrer ‘Udhaharanam Sujatha’. The teenager shot to fame earlier this year with the sensational blockbuster ‘Thanneer Mathan Dhinangal’, in which she played the lead alongside Mathew Thomas.

‘Raangi’ has music composed by C Sathya, while cinematography and editing is handled by Shakthi and M Subarak respectively.

Big Brother streaming rights sold for a whopping price; Second biggest deal in Malayalam after Lucifer!

Malayalam cinema’s market has seen a remarkable growth in the last few years. Along with the wide reach in foreign countries, the arrival of OTT platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime have opened a new avenue for producers to earn good deals. The streaming rights of Mohanlal’s upcoming film ‘Big Brother’ has been bagged by Amazon Prime for a huge price. Though the exact figure has not yet been revealed, it is said to be the second biggest deal in Malayalam industry after ‘Lucifer’. Earlier, the film’s satellite rights were acquired by Surya TV for a big amount.

‘Big Brother’ is written and directed by veteran Siddique. It is the actor-director duo’s third film together after ‘Vietnam Colony’ and ‘Ladies and Gentleman’. According to the director, this is the most expensive film in his career as it has been made as a proper superstar film. It is expected to be a complete entertainer with all commercial elements in it.

Shylock teaser to be released along with Mamangam

Megastar Mammootty is having two big releases back to back. While his hugely awaited period flick ‘Mamangam’ is hitting screens this Thursday (December 12), his mass entertainer ‘Shylock’ is scheduled for release next month. It is heard that the teaser of ‘Shylock’ will be released along with ‘Mamangam’. The teaser, which has a duration of 1.27 minutes is expected to screened in all theatres playing ‘Mamangam’.

‘Shylock’ was originally scheduled for release on December 20 but was postponed due to change in plans of ‘Mamangam’. It eventually came down to a situation where two Mammootty starrers would releasing within a gap of 8 days. It forced the makers of ‘Shylock’ zero in on January 23 as the new release date.

‘Shylock’ is directed by Ajai Vasudev. Scripted by Bibin Mohan and Aneesh Hameed, the film is touted to be a complete mass entertaer. It has been planned as a Tamil-Malayalam bilingual. The Tamil version is titled as ‘Kuselan’. Veteran Tamil actor Raj Kiran is making his Malayalam debut with this film. He has also penned the dialogues for the film’s Tamil version.

Meena, Bibin George, Baiju Santhosh, Siddique, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Arthana Binu, Arjun Nandakumar, Hareesh Kanaran and many others are also part of the cast. Joby George of Goodwill Entertainment is producing the film.

After the success of ‘Captain’, director Prajesh Sen and Jayasurya are coming together for a new film titled ‘Vellam’. Shoot for the same commenced in November and its first look poster came out last day. Along with sharing the poster, Jayasurya wrote in his social media handle that it is the most challenging character that he has played in his entire career so far.

It must be remembered that the National award winning actor has done extremely some challenging roles in films like ‘Apothecary’, ‘Su Su Sudhi Vathmeekam’ and ‘Captain’. ‘Vellam’ is certain to explore another dimension of his. Scripted by director Prajesh himself, it is said to be the story of a drunkard based in Kannur. In his Facebook post, Jayasurya has mentioned that we must all have seen a character like that in our daily lives.

Director Shafi has been in a rough patch of late but it seems like he is eyeing to make a big comeback. If things out turn out as per plans, he will be directing superstar Mohanlal in an out and out fun entertainer. Actor-writer Vishnu Unnikrishnan is scripting the film. He is also expected to be playing a major role in it. Santhosh T Kuruvilla of Moonshot Entertainment and Vaishaka Rajan will be producing the film.

Vishnu Unnikrishnan along with Bibin George has earlier scripted three hit films – ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’, ‘Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan’ and ‘Oru Yamandan Premakadha’. It is not yet known if Bibin George is also involved in the scripting of the upcoming Mohanlal starrer. Nevertheless, expectations will be huge since their brand of humour has always worked well with the masses.

Shafi is also a director who has great knack for helming fun films. ‘Kalyanaraman’, ‘Pulivaal Kalyanam’, ‘Marykkundoru Kunjaadu’ and ‘Two Countries’ are some of his popular films. Though he has worked with top stars like Mammootty, Vikram, Dileep and Jayaram, he is yet to collaborate with Mohanlal. Now that he has got an opportunity, Shafi will be trying to make it a memorable one.

Official: Keerthy Suresh joins the cast of Thalaivar 168

The makers of ‘Thalaivar 168’ have finalized the cast as shoot is slated to begin very shortly. Siva will be directing this Rajinikanth starrer and it is being produced by Sun Pictures. Last day, it was officially announced that Keerthy Suresh will be part of the film. It is not yet clear if she plays the superstar’s pair. Veteran actors Meena and Khushbu Sundar are also in talks for the film.

After the announcement regrading her casting was made, Keerthy wrote in her Twitter handle,

Vikram is currently working om Ajay Gnanamuthu’s thriller film, tentatively titled as ‘Chiyaan Vikram 58’. There is a buzz going around in social medias that the film has been titled as ‘Amar’ but the makers are yet to confirm this. 7 Screen Studio is producing this big budget film that is being shot across various countries. Maestro AR Rahman is composing music for the film.

Director Ajay Gnanamuthu has previously helmed the horror flick ‘Demonte Colony’ and crime-thriller ‘Imaikka Nodigal’, both of which were hits. So his new film with Vikram has high expectations among fans. The star will reportedly be looking in multiple looks in the film.

Cricketer Irfan Pathan is making his acting debut with this fikm. Irfan has already completed shooting for the first schedule of the film. He plays a Turkish police officer and it is said to be a very important character. Former Miss Supranational, Srinidhi Shetty, well known as the heroine in the Kannada blockbuster ‘KGF’, is the female lead here as well. Malayalam actor Shane Nigam has also been approached to play an important role in the film, but it is not yet known if the youngster has signed the dotted lines.

Driving Licence is a special film with a very interesting script: Prithviraj

‘Driving Licence’ is one of the most anticipated films among the Christmas releases this year. Starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu in the lead roles, the film is directed by Jean Paul Lal aka Lal Jr. Sachy has scripted the film, which is produced by Prithviraj Productions. It is the banner’s second venture after the sci-fi thriller ‘9’ aka ‘Nine’.

Prithviraj seems to have pinned high hopes on ‘Driving Licence’. In a recent Facebook post, he had mentioned it as a very special film. According to him, it’s easily one of of the most interesting mainstream scripts that he has been part of. Though Prithviraj has not worked previously with director Jeethu, he shares a close bond with scenarist Sachy. It must be noted that the latter’s directorial debut ‘Anarkali’ was with Prithviraj. Sachy’s new film ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ also has Prithviraj as one of the leads along with Biju Menon.

Meanwhile, ‘Driving Licence’ is gearing up for release on December 20. It has Prithviraj playing the role a film star and Suraj Venjaramoodu as a vehicle inspector, who is also a big fan. It is the dynamics between the star and his fan that takes the film forward. Deepti Sati and Miya George play the two female leads. The film will be having a simultaneous worldwide release. Its overseas rights were recently bagged by Phars Films Co Llc for Rs 2.55 crore, which is said to be the highest for a Prithviraj starrer yet.
