Malik is a political thriller based on real incidents; Fahadh Faasil to sport 4 different looks!

After the success of ‘Take Off’, director Mahesh Narayanan is now working on ‘Malik’, a big-scale film that has Fahadh Faasil in the lead. Anto Joseph Film Company is producing the film, which is being made on a huge budget of around Rs 25 crores. Shoot is currently progressing in Kochi after which the team will be shifting to Trivandrum and later to Lakshadweep.

Mahesh has scripted ‘Malik’ based on a real life incident that occurred few years back in Kerala. According to a report in TOI, the film spans over different timelines from 1960s to the present. Though it is based on a true incident, Mahesh is not intending to recreate the exact events but instead it is his interpretation of what actually occurred.

‘Malik’ is conceived as a political thriller that revolves around a sensitive coastal area where there was a resistance against this constant threat of displacement of a minority community, and a person who was responsible for making his people rise up. The focus will be on the evolution of the coastal area from the 60s to present age.

Fahadh Faasil plays the lead character named Sulaiman, who is actually the leader of the community. His character is actually inspired from a real-life person. Since there is a change in timelines, the actor will be appearing in four different looks. Along with him, the cast also includes Nimisha Sajayan, Dileesh Pothan, Vinay Forrt, Indrans, Sudhi Koppa, Chandhunath, yesteryear actress Jalaja and many others.

Besides directing and scripting, Mahesh Narayanan is also editing the film. Sanu John Varughese, who was the DOP of Mahesh’s ‘Take Off’, has been retained in this one as well. Sushin Shyam is the composer and sound department will be handled by Vishnu Govind and Sree Sankar. National award winner Santosh Raman is in charge of the production design.

Aan Mega Media will be releasing ‘Malik’ in Kerala. The makers are eyeing an April release next year.

15 years after Mayookham, Mamta Mohandas and Saiju Kurup reunite for Forensic

15 years after they both made their acting debut with ‘Mayookham’, Saiju Kurup and Mamta Mohandas finally get to share screen space. The two will be seen together in the upcoming film ‘Forensic’, directed by Akhil Paul and Anas Khan. Tovino Thomas plays the lead role in the film that reportedly has Mamta playing a cop.

Earlier in the day, Saiju Kurup took to his official Facebook page to share a photo taken with Mamta from the sets of ‘Forensic’. A poster from ‘Mayookham’ was also added along with that. He has written a note, which reads,

15 years back we were kids, mere students, picking up the ropes in Hariharan sir’s Mayookham. 15 years hence, we are back together, a little more experienced, a little more grown up, having fought many battles and learnt much. As we come full circle , memories rush in. ‘Forensic’ went on floors last month and is currently nearing completion. The film has a talented bunch of actors and technicians. ‘Bigil’ fame Reba Monica John, Renji Panicker, Giju John, Dhanesh Anand, Anwar Shereef, Anil Murali and many others are part of the supporting cast. DOP Akhil George, music director Jakes Bejoy and editor Shameer Muhammed form the core technical crew.

‘Forensic’ is being produced by Navis Xaviour and Siju Mathew under the banner of Juvis Productions and Raju Malliath’s Ragam Movies.

The phenomenal success of ’96’ proved propitious for not just its lead actors, Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha, but for debutante Gouri Kishan as well. She became an overnight sensation and was billed to be the next big thing in Tamil. But Gouri took it slowly and didn’t sign any further projects. The pretty actress is yet to have a release after ’96’. But the wait for the right project bore fruit when she was offered an important role in Vijay’s new film with Lokesh Kanagaraj, which is tentatively titled as ‘Thalapathy 64′.

Gouri is reportedly playing a college student in the film that has Vijay as a professor. She is currently shooting for the film in New Delhi. In a recent interview to TOI, Gouri opened up about how she landed in the film and her shoot experience so far. Gouri was impressed by Lokesh’s narration and had a small audition before she bagged the role. So far, she has shot for 10 days for the film.

In the interview, Gouri said that she was glad when Vijay recognized her and praised her for her work in ’96’. In her own words, she was flattered. She also picked ‘Mersal’ as her favorite among all the Vijay films. About his recent release ‘Bigil’, she felt Vijay has outperformed himself.

Gouri is quoted saying, “When I see him doing roles that help him grow as an actor alongside mass entertainers, as a viewer I feel wonderful. I also respect him immensely for the way he speaks despite having such a fan following, his kind heart and his humility.”

‘Thalapathy 64’ cast also includes Vijay Sethupathi, Antony Varghese, Malavika Mohanan, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Andrea Jeremiah and Ramya Subramanian. The film is scheduled for April 2020 release.

Chumma Kizhi: First single from Rajinikanth’s Darbar to be out tomorrow!

Post-production works of superstar Rajinikanth’s ‘Darbar’ are currently progressing at a brisk pace as the makers are working towards a Pongal release early next year. Meanwhile, the makers have informed that the first song from the movie will be out tomorrow (November 27) evening at 5 PM. The legendary SP SP Balasubrahmanyam has rendered the track and is set to tunes by the young sensation Anirudh Ravichander. The song is titled as ‘Chumma Kizhi’ and lyrics are penned by Vivek.

Written and directed by AR Murugadoss, ‘Darbar’ is a cop-action thriller that has Rajinikanth in a police officer’s role. He is playing a cop’s role after nearly two decades. So naturally, there is a lot of expectations on the film. Nayanthara is paired opposite him and Nivetha Thomas will be seen as his daughter. Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty plays the villain role. The supporting cast also comprises of Prateik Babbar, Sriman, Yogi Babu, cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s Yograj Singh and many others.

Lyca Productions is producing the film, which is scheduled for a grand worldwide release in January.

Njan Thedum Thaaram: Here’s the first single from Driving Licence

As informed earlier, the first song from Prithviraj’s new film ‘Driving Licence’ has been released online. The track titled ‘Njan Thedum Thaaram’ is rendered by popular Tamil playback singer Antony Dasan and composed by music director duo Yakzan Gary Perera and Neha Nair. Santhosh Varma has penned the lyrics.

‘Driving Licence’ directed by Jean Paul Lal and scripted by Sachi is about a superstar and his fan. Prithviraj plays a cine star in the film and Suraj Venjaramoodu essays the role of a vehicle inspector, who is also a big fan. It is the dynamics between the star and his fan that take the film forward.

‘Driving Licence’ is expected to be a complete commercial entertainer. Deepti Sati of ‘Neena’ fame and Miya George play the two female leads. Deepti will be seen as Prithviraj’s wife in the film. On the technical side, DOP Alex J Pulickal, and editor Ratheesh Raj are part of the core team. Prithviraj Productions is jointly producing the film with Listin Stephen’s Magic Frames. It is scheduled as a Christmas release on December 20.

‘Arjun Reddy’ is a film that emerged as a huge blockbuster and went on to be remade in Hindi and Tamil languages. But along with the commercial gains, the film has often been lambasted for its glorification of toxic masculinity and misogyny. It was when the Hindi version ‘Kabir Singh’ got released that it became a big talking point. Director Sandeep Venga Reddy’s controversial interviews didn’t help either.

The dust is yet to settle down as Malayalam actress Parvathy came down hard at ‘Arjun Reddy’ during the round table discussion hosted by Film Companion. Parvathy’s words have gone viral as Twitter users across the country have been lauding her for being so outspoken and having the guts to trash the film right in front of its lead actor Vijay Deverakonda. The discussion also saw the presence of Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Vijay Sethupathi, Ayushmann Khurrana, Alia Bhatt.

Sharing a video of Parvathy trashing ‘Arjun Reddy’ in his social media handle, fellow Malayalam actor Anoop Menon has written,

Manju Warrier and Mammootty set to act together for the first time!

Manju Warrier has shared screen space with almost all the leading stars of Malayalam cinema except Mammootty. Finally, after all these years, the two are coming together for a new thriller film. Debutant director Jofin T Chacko will be helming the film and it will be produced by Anto Joseph and B Unnikrishnan. It is learnt that Manju Warrier is not paired with Mammootty in the film. Instead she will be playing a very important character.

Jofin’s project got initiated after some sudden developments. Mammootty was caught up with his already committed projects, but he still accommodated immediate dates as he was highly impressed by the script. Shoot is scheduled to begin by the end of next month. Official announcement with full details regarding the project will be made soon.

Mammootty is currently shooting for ‘One’, a political film directed by Santhosh Viswanath. Bobby and Sanjay have scripted the film that has the star in a Chief Minister’s role. Manju Warrier meanwhile awaits the release of ‘Prathi Poovankozhi’, scheduled to hit screens on December 20.

As per the rumours, Nivin will be appearing in a guest role in the film.

Anoop Menon and Ranjith to script Shankar Ramakrishnan’s next directorial venture

Actor-writer Shankara Ramakrishnan made his directorial debut earlier this year with ‘Pathinettam Padi’, a coming-of-age film about a bunch of teenagers. Though the film was released amidst high expectations, it did not reap the desired results. Shankar now has two more films in his kitty. One is ‘Ayyappan’, an ambitious mythological film with Prithviraj. It is highly unlikely to go on floors anytime soon as the star has multiple other lined up.

Shankar is planning another film, script for which is being written jointly by Anoop Menon and Ranjith. Menon himself revealed this in a recent interview. Anoop Menon and Shankar have been close friends since their Law college days in Thiruvananthapuram. Shankar has also been a long time associate of Ranjith.

It must be noted that the veteran Ranjith has never co-written a film. So it will be interesting to see him collaborate with Anoop Menon, who has scripted hit films like ‘Beautiful’, ‘Trivandrum Lodge’ and ‘Cocktail’. The two are currently working together in ‘King Fish’, which marks the directorial debut of Anoop Menon.

Rosshan Andrrews is the latest to join the club of filmmakers turned actors from Malayalam. He is making his acting debut with his own film ‘Prathi Poovankozhi’, which has Manju Warrier in the lead. Rosshan’s character poster from the movie got unveiled by Mammootty just a while back through his official Facebook page.

‘Prathi Poovankozhi’ is scripted by Unni R. The film has Manju Warrier and Ansuree as sales girls working in a textile shop. Rosshan is playing a negative character named Antappan. Though the makers had approached few other actors to essay this character, nothing fell in place. With the support of his writer Unni R, Rosshan eventually decided to take up the role.
