New release date announced for Mammootty’s Shylock

New release date announced for Mammootty’s Shylock

In quite an unexpected turn of events, the release of Mammootty’s two big films have been affected. His much-awaited period flick ‘Mamangam’ was supposed to release on November 21 but the makers could not complete the post-production works on time. The film is now slated to arrive worldwide on December 12.

This has indirectly affected of the star’s other film ‘Shylock’. It was originally scheduled to hit screens on December 20. But the postponing of ‘Mamangam’ to Christmas season meant that two Mammootty starrers will be releasing within a gap of 8 days. This has forced the makers of ‘Shylock’ to find a new appropriate slot. They have finally zeroed in on January 23 as the new release date.

Interestingly, both these films will be releasing in multiple languages. Though ‘Mamangam’ was originally made in Malayalam, it is also releasing in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi languages. The makers are working hard to release all the four versions on the same day. ‘Shylock’, on the other hand, is a Tamil-Malayalam bilingual. The Tamil version has been titled as ‘Kuberan’. Both the Tamil and Malayalam versions are expected to hit screens simultaneously.

Recently there were talks in Kollywood circles about actor Vijay trying to change track from his usual commercial-formula films. As a first, he signed a film with the two-film-old Lokesh Kanagaraj, shoot for which is currently under progress. Latest buzz is that the star has committed his next with director Magizh Thirumeni, who is known for his films like ‘Thadaiyara Thaakka’, ‘Meaghamann, and ‘Thadam’.

Reports suggest that Vijay’s film with Magizh, tentatively titled as ‘Thalapathy 65’ will be an action-packed entertainer just like the director’s earlier films. Vijay heard the script last week during the schedule break of his ongoing fil and was very impressed by it. They have decided to take the project forward and if all goes well, shoot for the same will be commencing by June 2020.

The news has come as a big surprise as Vijay was also in talks with directors like AR Murugadoss and Mohan Raja. But it is very heartening to learn that the star is willing to try something different rather than repeating the same old run-of-the mill stuff. Director Magizh has proved his potential in helming action films. His last release ‘Thadam’ was a big hit at the box office.

As speculated by many, the release of Mammootty’s eagerly awaited film ‘Mamangam’ has been postponed. It was originally scheduled to hit screens on November 21 but the makers have now announced December 12 as the new release date. Extensive post-production works have been cited as the reason for delay in release.

A note written on their official social media handle reads,

Dear Friends,

Releasing a film in multiple languages has lot of unforseen complications. Apologies from us at team Mamangam for the delay. Work is progressing really fast and Mamagam will arrive on December 12th.

Prithviraj and Lal Jose to reunite after 8 years!

Veteran director Lal Jose has been on a rough patch over the last couple of years. His latest release ’41’ is garnering mixed reviews but continues to do pretty well at the box office. The film starring Biju Menon and Nimisha Sajayan in the leads is a fun satire on the current socio-political scenario in Kerala. A brief celebration of the film’s success was held last day at the sets of ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’, which stars Prithviraj and Biju Menon in the leads.

After the cake cutting, while interacting with his followers on Facebook, Prithviraj revealed that he will be joining hands with Lal Jose for a new film next year. This will be their third film together after the blockbuster success of ‘Classmates’ and ‘Ayalum Njaanum Thammil’. It will be scripted by Prageesh PG, a journalist turned scenarist. He made his debut recently with ’41’.

Prithviraj has a long list of films lined up for the next year. His immediate release will be ‘Driving Licence’ directed by Lal Jr. It is scheduled for Christmas release.

As expected, ‘Kaithi’ has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark from the worldwide collections and thereby becoming Karthi’s first film to enter the elite three figure mark club. Releasing last month for Diwali, the film opened to unanimously positive reviews both in the domestic and overseas territories. Since it was released alongside Vijay’s ‘Bigil’, the initial screen count was less but as the positive word of mouth spread, good number of screens were further added.

‘Kaithi’ directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj is an action film that’s devoid of the usual formulaic stuff. That no-nonsense approach makes the film unique. So this humungous success is truly special as it once again proves the fact that content is always the king. Several celebrities had come out heaping praise on the film and Lokesh’s filmmaking.

‘Kaithi’ did well not just in Tamil Nadu. Its Telugu version ‘Khaidi’ has also emerged as a big success and in Kerala, despite facing stiff competition from ‘Bigil’, it has already crossed the Rs 10 crore mark. It is also Karthi’s biggest grosser in the state.

‘Professor Dinkan’ is an ambitious 3D film starring Dileep in the lead. Veteran cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Ramachandra Babu is directing the film that has been in the making for over two years. Sanal Thottam is producing the film under the banner of New TV. A cheating case has been filed against him by NRI Rafael Thomas, a native of Irinjalakuda. The petitioner has complained that Sanal Thottam cheated him for over Rs 5 crore on the pretext of the film’s production. Reports also suggest that Sanal has tried to cheat many others.

‘Professor Dinkan’ got delayed due to multiple reasons. The makers are yet to complete a few portions. Shot entirely in 3D format, the movie is being made on a lavish budget. Rafi has scripted the movie which has Dileep playing the lead role of a magician. It revolves around this ambitious magician whose aim is to astonish the world with a risky magic trick. But one such attempts fails miserably and ends up affecting a lot of people. How he tries to patch up with the people and undo the damage through minor magic tricks forms the plot.

Mammootty is having a very promising line up of projects for next year. Along with working with young filmmakers, he will also be teaming up with veterans like K Madhu, Joshiy and Sathyan Anthikad. We hear that Joshiy’s film is scripted by Sajeev Pazhoor and it will be produced by Sandip Senan and Anish M Thomas of Urvasi Pictures.

Sajeev Pazhoor is a National award winning scriptwriter who penned the widely acclaimed ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’ (TD). Urvasi Pictures had produced that film as well. So Joshiy-Mammootty film is also a reunion of the ‘TD’ team.

The actor-director duo is set to reunite after 11 years and there will be a lot of expectations. The makers are planning it as a big budget project. Details regarding the film’s genre or other cast members are not yet known. Shoot is expected to begin some time by mid 2020.

Mammootty is currently working on ‘One’ directed by Santhosh Viswanath. The film scripted by Bobby-Sanjay has the star in the role of Kerala’s Chief Minsiter. After its completion, the star will be shooting for debutant Jofin’s thriller film. Meanwhile, he has two films gearing up for release ‘Mamangam’ and ‘Shylock’. Release dates have not yet been announced.

Industry insiders as well as fans have pinned high expectations on the upcoming Mammootty starrer ‘Shylock’. Shoot for the film has already been completed and it it most likely to hit screens for Christmas. Ajai Vasudev is directing the film, which has a Tamil version as well, titled as ‘Kuberan’. It is scripted by debutants Bibin Mohan and Aneesh Hameed.

Interestingly, even before the release of their maiden film, the writers have bagged their next. It is learnt that their second film will be directed by B Unnikrishnan. Giving hints about the same, both the writers had recently shared a photo taken with Unnikrishnan on their respective social media handles.

It must be noted that the director had heaped praise on the writers, Bibin and Aneesh, during the launch event of ‘Shylock’ and remarked about their potential. Apparently, the veteran was impressed by their writing and decided to collaborate with them for a new project. They are currently planning a big-budget mass entertainer that will appeal to a wide range of audience.

We hear that B Unnikrishnan is trying to get on board a leading star from Malayalam cinema to play the lead role. Talks are still in initial stages, so we still await an official confirmation.
